Moss Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Sawyer died Wednesday, Sept. 5 at his residence. He was born June 3, 1914 to Charles and Melena Jones Sawyer. He was a minister, having pastored the New Union Baptist Church for 28 years. His pastoral work ended on his 87th birthday June 3 of this year. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Mildred Reid Sawyer; three sons, John Lewis (Pat) Sawyer and Charles Eugene (Barbara) Sawyer, both of Hayden, and Robert Calvin (Sherry) Sawyer of Locust Fork; a daughter, Rebecca Junita (Ronnie) Murray of Trussville; two sisters, Frances Pauline Huckeba of Birmingham and Ruth Sawyer Vanhorn of Indiana; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. He was born Jan. 4, 1925 in Mississippi to Owen James and Mary Elizabeth Morris Ivey. He was a retired machinist at Matthews Ind. in Decatur and a military veteran, having served in both the Army and Navy. Survivors include his wife, Jo Ann Ivey of Vinemont; two daughters, Kathy Reed of Hartselle and Pamela Guyette of Montgomery; a son, Gregory Ivey of Cullman; three brothers, Arthur Ivey of Tuscaloosa, Ted Ivey and James Ivey, both of Sylacauga; and seven grandchildren. The body will lie in state an hour before the service. Hanceville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Davis died Tuesday, Sept. 4 at Carraway Methodist Medical Center. She was born in Dora on May 26, 1916 to Barney T. and Mattie Hutchens. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Johnnie Davis; and her sister, Lizzie Creel. Survivors include five sons, Byron (Shelby) Davis, J.W. (Mary) Davis both of Bremen, Harold (Jo Ann) Davis, Lavaughn (Melissa) Davis of Hoover, Micky (Patti) Davis of Carbon Hill; daughter, Gwen (Dwight) Edwards of Midfield; brother, William T. J.D. Wisener
Services for J.D. Wisener, 89, of Holly Pond will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, 2001, at Holly Pond Funeral Chapel, the Rev. William Stidham officiating, with burial in Holly Pond Cemetery. Holly Pond Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Wisener died Sept. 6 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born July 16, 1912, in Holly Pond to O.B. and Elizabeth Taylor Wisener. Both sets of grandparents were settlers of Holly Pond in the 1880s. Mr. Wisener was a 1934 graduate of Holly Pond High School and attended Jacksonville State. He was a member of the first Holly Pond football team and remained a Bronco fan the rest of his life. He served as a CB in the Navy during World War II in North Africa. Mr. Wisener was a rock, brick and block mason and general builder. For several years he measured cotton lands for the ASCS office. In later working years he had layer houses. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Holly Pond and a charter member of the Holly Pond Senior Citizen Site. He was preceded in death by hiswife of 54 years, Nell Chamblee Wisener; a sister, Mamie Huffman; and brothers D.B. “Boots” Wisener and James Coy Wisener. He is survived by a son, Mike (Amelia) Wisener; a daughter, Jane Black; a grandson, Lee (Christy) Black; a granddaughter, Laura (Jeff) Norman; two great-grandsons, Dex Bacate and Blane Black; a great-granddaughter, Abrey Anna Norman; a brother, Ermer Wisener. James Daniel Hutchison Jr.
Services for James Daniel Hutchison Jr., 82, of Cullman, were held Saturday, Aug. 18, 2001 at Northside Baptist Church, Paul Hicks and Jack Collins officiating, with entombment in Cullman Memory Gardens Mausoleum. Moss Service Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Mr. Hutchison died Thursday, Aug. 16 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born June 16, 1919 to James Daniel Sr. and Edith Jordan Hutchison. He was a retired rural letter carrier with the post office, and retired after 33 years as Master Chief Petty Officer with the U.S. Navy. He was a mason for over 50 years; coached Little League Baseball for over eight years; and was a well-known artist of hand-carved and painted walking canes. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Justin Jordan “Joe” Hutchison; a sister, Juanita Hutchison Hart. Survivors include his wife, Billie Self Hutchison; three sons, Gary W. She was born June 21, 1984 in Houston, Texas, to Jackie Bauschka and Drue Wright. She was a senior at Cullman High School, was president of STAR and grew up playing basketball, softball, volleyball, and cheerleading. She was also involved in FBLA, LEO club, and French club, as well as holding a 3.4 GPA. Survivors include her grandparents, Warren and Germie White; parents, Jackie Basuchka and Drue and Cindy Wright; two sisters, Jodi Bauschka, and Maggie Wright; and one brother Brian Wright. Mr. Gunselman died Saturday Sept. 1 at Morningside Assisted Living. He was born Dec. 25, 1923 to John T. and Theresa Kress Gunselman. He was employed at Outdoor Power and Key from 1986 to 2000. He retired as a railroad conductor from U.S. Steel with 41 years of Service,was a veteran of World War II and was a member of the VFW No. 3407. He was a member of St. Anns Catholic Church and former member of St. Williams Catholic church in Guntersville. Survivors include his son, Charles H. Charles E. Gunselman, 77, of Arab died Saturday, Sept. 1, 2001 at Morningside Assisted Living in Decatur. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Ridout’s Brown-Service Funeral Home.

John Bruce Watwood
Services for John Bruce Watwood, 45, of Vinemont will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 1, 2001 at Sacred Heart Church, Fr. Kevin McGrath officiating, with burial in the adjoining cemetery. Williams-McCracken Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Watwood died Thursday, Aug. 30 at Huntsville Hospital. He was born Nov. 28, 1955 in Cullman to Guy F. and Stella Baltz Watwood. He was a supervisor at National Vending Services. Survivors include his mother; a son, Bruce Watwood of Hoover; a daughter, Michelle Kyle of Falkville; a sister, Carol Woodard of Cullman; and three grandchildren, Leigh Kyle, Carter Kyle and Kaitlyn Kyle. Visitation was Friday.

Charlotte Frances Goodwin
Services for Charlotte Frances Goodwin, 48, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 2, 2001 at Hanceville Funeral Home Chapel, the Revs. Dillon Calvert and Tommy Blackwood officiating, with burial in Cluster Springs Cemetery in Gardendale. Hanceville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Goodwin died Friday, Aug. 31 at her residence. She was born Oct. 7, 1952 in Birmingham to Arvie and Eunice Sams Mayes. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her father. Survivors include her husband, Lonnie Goodwin of Cullman; her mother, Eunice Sams Mayes of Morris; her daughter, Bridgett (Brian) Calvert of Cullman; her son, Rodger (Sarah) Goodwin of Cullman; her sister, Jean (Olan) Lawrence of Blount County; three brothers, Buddy (Johnnie) Mayes of Warrior, Steve Mayes of Morris, W.R. (Judy) Mayes of Pinson; and two granddaughters, Brooke Calvert and Nichole Goodwin, both of Cullman. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Cullman County. Visitation is from 6 to 9 p.m. on today at the funeral home.

Oladeen Speer Brown
Services for Oladeen Speer Brown, 71, of Vinemont will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 1, 2001 at Arley Congregational Church (Smith School House), Larry Joe Stallings and Robert Partridge officiating, with burial in the adjoining cemetery. Nichols Funeral Home of Addison is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Brown died Thursday, Aug. 30 at her residence. Survivors include her husband, Billy M. Brown; a son, David M. Brown of Nesmith; a daughter, Phyllis Ford of Jones Chapel; and three grandchildren.
