Mr. Jimmy Ronald Clayton of Ashford
Jimmy Ronald Clayton, a resident of Ashford, passed away Monday, March 28, 2005 at Southeast Alabama Medical Center. He was 60. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, March 31, 2005 at Bethel Baptist Church with Rev. Wallace Russell officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Hill Cemetery with a full fireman burial service with Southern Heritage directing. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Wednesday, March 30 at Southern Heritage Funeral Home. Flowers will be accepted or contributions may be made to Bethel Baptist Church, “Greater Faith, Greater Gift” Fund, 3257 East Cottonwood Road, Dothan, AL 36301. Mr. Clayton was born November 13, 1944 in Houston County to Elbert and Vera Mae Bridges Clayton. He was a 1963 graduate of Ashford High School where he excelled in basketball. He was a retired Captain from the Dothan Fire Department where he worked for over 27 years and was a line haul driver with AAA Cooper Transportation for 14 years. Mr. Clayton was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and a dedicated fireman. Mr. Clayton was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Andrew Arthur Clayton; and sister, Lynda Clayton. He is survived by his wife, Towona Fowler Clayton, Ashford; one daughter and son-in-law, Tonja and Scott Turvin, Dothan; one son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Crystal Clayton, Ashford; eight grandchildren, Chelsea, Caitlin, Joshua and Careah Turvin, Brandon, Nicholas, Logan and Lucas Clayton; father-in-law and mother-in-law, James and Billie Fowler, Dothan; three aunts, Edna Stringfellow, Gussie Trammell and Deane Fletcher, Dothan; sister-in-law, Linda Clayton, Lawrenceville, GA; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Judy and Larry Fowler, Dothan; nephews, Andrew Scott Clayton, Dallas, TX and David Clayton, Lawrenceville, GA; and a number of cousins. Mr. Wayne Taylor Prentice of Dothan
Mr. Wayne Taylor Prentice, a resident of Dothan, passed away Friday, April 1, 2005 at his residence after an extended illness. He was 77. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2:00 PM today, April 3, 2005 at the Southern Heritage Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bob Yawn and Rev. Marquis Wingard officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Cemetery with Southern Heritage directing. The family will receive friends from 1:00–1:45 prior to service time. Wayne was born June 8, 1927 in Wray, Colorado. Later he moved to Hotchkiss, Colorado and graduated from Hotchkiss High School earning sixteen letters in athletics. After graduation, he joined the U.S. Army serving two years in Korea. Upon discharge from the Army, he attended and graduated from the School of Horology (watch making) in Denver, Colorado. He was employed by the Zale’s Jewelers Corporation becoming a store manager and supervisor. He was transferred to Bauman’s Jewelers in Dothan in 1965 as store manager. He was active in Retail Merchants Association of Dothan and served as president. Mr. Prentice retired in 1976 from Zale’s Corporation. He used his watchmaker skills doing watch repairs for many of the jewelry stores in Dothan. He won the Top Manager Award of 700 stores and a two-week trip to Europe. His main hobbies were cultivating beautiful vegetable gardens, riding and raising Palomino quarter horses and attending horse shows. He was a member of Cloverdale United Methodist Church. Mr. Prentice was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd Prentice and Gertrude Taylor Prentice; brother, Richard Prentice, who was killed in World War II; and sister, Jan Gillette. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Betty Cain Prentice; son, Brad (Jan) Prentice, Pensacola, FL; daughter, Pam (Daniel) Hundley, Pleasant Grove, AL; two grandchildren, Leah (Lawson) Dowling, Birmingham, AL and Garrett Stricklin, Birmingham, AL; two step-children, Bob (Nan) Pitcher, Dothan, AL and Donna Pitcher (Ed) Gerstner, Peachtree City, GA; five step-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren; sister, Joyce Littlejohn (George) Parry, Ventura, CA; brother-in-law, Thomas (Mary Jim) Cain, Troy, AL; several nieces and nephews. Serving as pallbearers will be Alan Pitcher, Bob Davis, Bob Grismer, Dr. D.J. Underwood, Tommy Melton, Lewis Cain, Joe Anthony, and John Martin. Mrs. Ruth Latimer Sanders of Dothan
Ruth Latimer Sanders, a resident of Dothan, died April 6, 2005 at Flowers Hospital. She was 93. Memorial graveside services will be held at a later date at Memory Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Dothan, 300 W. Main Street, Dothan, AL 36303. Mrs. Sanders was born November 17, 1911, in Geneva, Alabama, where she lived the early years of her life. She attended college in Montevallo and graduated from the University of Alabama where she was a member of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority and Mortar Board. She has been a resident of Dothan for most of her life. Mrs. Sanders is the widow of Edward W. Sanders and a member of the First Baptist Church of Dothan, where she taught Sunday School for many years. She and her husband owned and operated Sanders Construction Company since the 1950’s. Survivors include a son, E. Wayne Sanders, Jr. San Francisco, CA; one daughter and son-in-law, Sydney and Joe Fridell, Dothan; five grandchildren, Franci Fridell, San Francisco, CA, Frank Fridell, Dothan, Amanda K. Pace, Jimmy D. Pace and Clay Pace all of Dothan.

Mrs. Betty Sue Brown of Dothan
Betty Sue Brown, a resident of Dothan, died Sunday morning, April 17, 2005 at her residence. She was 75. Celebration of Life services for Mrs. Brown will be held Tuesday, April 19, 2005 at 2 pm in the chapel of Southern Heritage Funeral Home with Rev. Tim Willis officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Enon Baptist Church cemetery in Midland City with Southern Heritage directing. Visitation will be held this evening from 6 until 8pm at the funeral home. Mrs. Brown was born October 20, 1929 to Henry and Eva Phillips Yarbrough and was raised in the Mt. Enon community of Dale County. She graduated from Midland City High School and later graduated from Riley Business College. Mrs. Brown later received her teaching certificate from The University of Alabama Continuing Education program. She was employed with the Dothan City School system and later retired after 15 years of service. Mrs. Brown was a faithful member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church for 46 years and enjoyed cooking and gardening. Mrs. Brown would like to thank Greg and Leona Waters for their special hand made gift to her. Her husband, Herbert Brown and a daughter, Matilda Susan Brown, preceded Mrs. Brown in death. Mrs. Boncile Mildred Vann, age 89, a resident of 2128 Waldo Meadows Road, Gordon died early Wednesday May 18, 2005 at her residence. The family will have a private memorial service at a later date. The family requests that green plants or artificial flowers be sent to Southern Heritage Funeral Home or Memorial contributions may be made to Covenant Hospice, 207 West Adams St., Dothan, AL 36303. Mrs. Vann was born on March 3, 1916 in Houston County the daughter of the late George W. and Mary Della Campbell Lord. She was a homemaker for all her lifetime. Mrs. Vann lived in Ft. Walton Beach, Florida from 1978 to 1995 before moving back to Houston County. She was a member of the Oakland Baptist Church in Ft. Walton Beach, Florida. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard B. Vann. Survivors include: daughter, Mary Glenda Gombar, Gordon, AL; granddaughter, Andrea Gombar, Gordon, AL; sister, Inez Golson, Dothan; a sister-in-law, Juanita Lord, Dothan. Jerri McKinnon, a resident of Dothan, died Wednesday, August 31, 2005, at the Southeast Alabama Medical Center. She was 63. Celebration of Life services for Mrs. McKinnon will be held at 3 p.m. Friday September 2, at the Southern Heritage chapel with Pastor Mark Berry officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 2:45 prior to the service. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory with Southern Heritage directing. Mrs. McKinnon was born to Clarence Albert and Edra Lucille Welch Griffin May 12, 1942 in Lanette, AL. She later moved to San Diego, California and met her future husband in 1968. They returned to Dothan in 1972 and Mrs. McKinnon worked for SouthTrust Bank and retired from the banking business after 30 years. She was a member of First Christian Church and loved antiques. Survivors include her husband of 37 years, Denny McKinnon, Dothan; son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Cherrie McKinnon, Dothan; granddaughter, Emily McKinnon, Dothan; Mother, Edra Griffin, Dothan; brother and sister- in-law, John and Lillian Griffin, Dothan; niece, Jeri Lu Nardine, Phoenix, AZ; two nephews, John Griffin, Jr. and Earl Griffin, both of Phoenix, AZ; special friends, Patsy Sauls and Betty Johnson.

Mr. Delmar Marlon Lehman of Cowarts
Delmar Marlon Lehman, a resident of Cowarts died early Thursday evening, November 3, 2005 at his residence. He was 86. Memorial services will be held November 12, 2005 at 1:00 p.m., at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses at 2627 Cottonwood Road, Dothan, Alabama. Delmar was a retired truck driver and had been living in Houston County since 1990. He was a member of the Rosewood Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Delmar was preceded in death by his son, Russell Lehman, and two brothers, Harrel Lehman and Guy Lehman. David W. Lerch, a resident of Cottonwood, passed away Friday morning, September 3 at Extendicare Hospice Facility. He was 87 years old. A memorial service will be held this morning during the 11 AM worship service at Cottonwood United Methodist Church with Rev. Dane Skipper officiating. Mr. Lerch was born January 14, 1917 in Knoxville, Maryland to Joseph M. and Claire Lerch. Mr. Lerch served in the United States Air Force retiring after 30 years then worked another 11 years for the Small Business Administration in Washington, D.C. Mr. Lerch was an active member of the Cottonwood United Methodist Church having served as treasurer for the past 20 years. His parents and three brothers, Charles, William and Roland, preceded Mr. Lerch in death. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Sylvia Lerch, Cottonwood; daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Clifton Fox, N. Myrtle Beach, SC; son, Ronald W. Donna Caroline Fides, a resident of Dothan passed away unexpectedly at her home early Tuesday morning, September 1, 2004. She was 48. Mr. Lewis "Red" Williams of Dothan
L. C. (Red) Williams, a resident of Dothan, passed away Monday morning, August 30, at his residence. He was 74 years old. Funeral services will be held 2 pm Thursday, September 2, 2004 in the chapel of Southern Heritage Funeral Home with Dr. Dennis Tew officiating. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory with Southern Heritage directing. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6-8 at the funeral home. Mr. Williams was born April 5, 1930 in Autauga County, AL to Alex and Fannie Mae McCord Williams. He was raised and lived the early years of his life in Plains, Georgia. Mr. Williams served in the United States Army from 1951 to 1953 and was also a lifetime member of the VFW. He moved to Dothan in 1965 and later retired from Ansell. Mr. Williams was an avid sports fan and could be found at local baseball parks during the spring and summer months sitting behind the backstop. He also enjoyed watching football games during the fall. His parents, a son, Harold Williams, brother, Freddy Williams and a nephew, Tony Crisp preceded Mr. Williams in death. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Doris Williams, Dothan; two sons, Dean Williams, Dothan, Lewis “Butch” Williams, Woodward, OK; three daughters, Jeannie Williams, Henagar, AL, Bobbie (Curtis) Wells, Jacksonville, FL, Sandy (Jerome) Burrell, Trenton, GA; nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren; three brothers, Jace (Jerri) Williams, Cedar Bluff, AL, Curtis Williams, Leesburg, GA, Larry Williams, Plains, GA; two sisters, Dora Crisp, Trenton, GA, Linda (Jeff) Campbell, Plains, GA; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews also survive. Margree Parker, a resident of Dothan passed away early Saturday morning, August 28, 2004 at the Southeast Alabama Medical Center. She was 67. Mrs. Parker is survived by her husband of 11 years, Herschell Parker; one daughter, Sharon Reyes, Grand Falls, North Carolina; three sons, Kenny Ray Jenkins, Mesa, Arizona, Jay Charles Jenkins, Cape Canaveral, Florida, Jerry Jenkins, St. Augustine, FL; 11 grandchildren; one sister, Linda Kirkland, Webb; two brothers, Randolph Tice and Gerald Tice both of Dothan; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Mr. Lamar Ritchie of Dothan
Lamar Ritchie, a resident of Dothan, passed away Sunday Afternoon, August 22, 2004 at his residence. He was 67. Memorial services will be held Wednesday, August 25, 2004 at 3:00 PM in the chapel of Southern Heritage Funeral Home with Father Thompson officiating. Visitation will be held from 1 until 3 prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Wiregrass Hospice, PO Drawer 2127, Dothan, AL 36302. Lamar was born in Mobile, Alabama, but has lived in Dothan since retiring from the Army after twenty years service to his beloved country. His service included years spent overseas in Germany, Saudi Arabia and Vietnam. Lamar was a Boy Scouts leader for many years and is still remembered and respected by his former scouts. At the time of his passing, Lamar was employed by Dothan Industrial Hardware. The family wishes to convey their appreciation for the practical and emotional support given by them at this difficult time. Lamar will be remembered by his loving family, his English-born wife Edna; two sons, Lamar Jr. and Lance; two daughters, Jane and Leslie; six grandchildren, Sonnet, Casey, Rhiannon, Alex, Bronwen and Baby Jack; two sons-in-law, Pete and Joe; two brothers, Winston and Mark; three sisters, Elaine, Anita and Katherine; stepmother, Mizelle; and his extended family both here in the United States and England. The family also wishes to express their appreciation to Wiregrass Hospice. Because of their dedication and devotion, Lamar was able to spend his last few days at home with his beloved family.

Ana America Caballero, a resident of Enterprise, passed away Friday afternoon, August 6, 2004 at her residence. She was 89 years old. Graveside services will be held Sunday, August 8, 2004 at 1:00 PM at Dade Memorial Park in Miami, FL with her son Pastor Pablo Caballero officiating. Mrs. Caballero was born January 15, 1915 in Cuba and moved to the United States in 1962. She has resided in Enterprise for the last eight years. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Pastor Pablo Caballero and Carmen, and two grandchildren.

Mackey Odon (M.O.) Smart, a resident of Webb, passed away Monday night, August 2, 2004 at Southeast Alabama Medical Center. He was 85 years old. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, August 5, 2004 at Cloverdale United Methodist Church with Rev. George Gilbert and Rev. Bob Yawn officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Hill Cemetery with Southern Heritage Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends 5-7 PM, Wednesday (tonight), August 4, 2004 at Southern Heritage Funeral Home. Mr. Smart was born April 13, 1919 in Geneva County, AL but lived most of his life in Houston County. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He retired in 1972 with Civil Service from Fort Rucker. He was a member of the United Methodist Men’s Club, served on several committees with particular interest in the Methodist Children’s Home. Mr. Smart was a member of the Shriners and the Masonic Lodge. Mr. Smart was preceded in death by his wife, Lois Smart; his parents, Charlie and Betty Smart; one sister and three brothers. He is survived by his wife, Oleta Smart, Webb; sister-in-law, Annie Ruth Smart, Columbus, GA; several nieces and nephews.

Gerald Eugene Mauldin, a resident of 157 Tate Drive, Newton, passed away late Saturday afternoon, July 24, 2004 following an extended illness. He was 67. Funeral services will be held at 2 pm, today, July 27 at Newton Baptist Church with a Navy chaplain officiating. Burial will follow in the Newton City Cemetery with full military honors and Southern Heritage Funeral Home directing. In 1974, upon retirement from the Navy, Mr. Mauldin moved back to Newton and lived until his death. His father, William Frank Mauldin, and a sister, Earlene Danley, preceded Mr. Mauldin in death. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Diane Mauldin; one daughter, Sandra and Dale Hudgens, Wicksburg, AL; two sons, William and Lucy Mauldin, Knoxville, TN, Frank and Kim Mauldin, Birmingham, AL; seven grandchildren, Jessie, Krystal, Curtis, Christopher, David, Dylan and Cody; a special nephew, Michael; mother, Aline Brannon; three sisters, Mary Ann Sawyer, Sara Parker, Sally Carl; one brother, Edsel and Betty Mauldin. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Miss Amanda Cox of Rehobeth
Amanda Cox, age 12, passed away early Saturday, July 17, 2004, at Children’s Hospital, Birmingham. Mr. Roy Milton Arnold
Roy Milton Arnold, passed away early Wednesday morning, July 14, 2004 at his residence in Dothan. He was 80. The funeral will be held at 3 pm Saturday, July 17, 2004 in the Southern Heritage Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Ken Harrison and Rev. Sam Brassell officiating. Burial will follow in the Dothan City Cemetery with Southern Heritage Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to service time. Mr. Arnold was born August 27, 1923 in Houston County, where he lived most all of his life. He was employed with Porter Hardware for over 50 years. He was a United States Army veteran and served during World War II. He was also affiliated with the DAV, Am Vets and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Mr. Arnold was also a member of Southside Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Daphne H. Bennie Paul Watford, a resident of Southern Junction, passed away Monday night, April 10, 2006 at his residence. He was 66. Mr. Watford was a truck driver for Chevron for twenty years, worked for Graceville Oil Company for six years, and was a bus driver for Houston County Schools for twelve years. He was one of the founding members of the Southern Junction VFD and Houston County Volunteer Fire Association, and was a member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife, Jimmie Thomley Watford, Southern Junction; one son, Andy Watford (Olivia), Dothan; one daughter, Cyndia M. Watford, Southern Junction; two grandchildren, Evan Paul Watford and Noah Watford, both of Dothan. Serving as active pallbearers will be Larry Hodges, Larry Mims, Don Clements, James Bowman, Buddy Kelly, Arthur Sallas. Donald McGlothlen of Dothan
Donald (Don) McGlothlen, a resident of Dothan, died Saturday April 8, 2006, at his residence. He was 69. Funeral services for Mr. McGlothlen will be held at 2 p.m. today, April 12, at Bethel Baptist Church with Rev. Wallace Russell officiating. Burial will follow at Memphis Baptist Church Cemetery with Southern Heritage directing. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Wiregrass Hospice, PO Drawer 2127, Dothan, AL 36302. Mr. McGlothlen was born August 30, 1936 in Oskaloosa, Iowa. He was a welder, farmer and a cattleman before moving to Dothan in the late 1980’s. While in Dothan Mr. McGlothlen became an auctioneer and worked for several automobile auctions. He was ranked in the World Finals for auctioneering for several years and won the David Baize Sportsmanship award. Mr. McGlothlen was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. His mother, father and a brother, Roger McGlothlen preceded Mr. McGlothlen in death. Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Helen McGlothlen, Dothan; two daughters and sons in law, Marlene and Gene Armstrong, Dothan, Karen and Paul Conquist, Garland, TX; four sons and two daughters in law, William Lee McGlothlen, Knoxville, IA, Robert Leroy and Lorie McGlothlen, Oskaloosa, IA, Michael Shawn McGlothlen, Dothan, Kevin Lee and Deborah McGlothlen, Olive Branch, MS; 14 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
