Velma Earline (Bailey) Roley Miller, a native of Monroe County and a resident of Bay Minette, died Friday at a Mobile hospital. She was 72.

Mrs. Miller was retired from the Bay Minette Police Department where she worked as a secretary.

She is survived by her son, Buddy Roley of Bay Minette; two daughters, Nadine Beauchamp of Bay Minette and Sandra Harbison of Bay Minette; four brothers, C.J. Bailey of Pheonix City, Wallace W. Bailey of Atmore, Ellie L. Bailey of Atmore, and Harry H. Bailey of Cantonment, Fla.; two sisters, Delores Mixon of Atmore and Reba Jean Yancey of New Braunfels, Texas; and six grandchildren.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. today at Bay Minette Church of Christ with ministers Tracy Moore and Donald Roley officiating. Burial will follow at Halls Fork Community Cemetery.

ANNE EVANS PEGUES

SPANISH FORT — Anne Evans Pegues, a native of Mobile, a former resident of Jacksonville, Fla., and a resident of Spanish Fort, died Saturday. She was 82.

Miss Pegues is survived by two cousins, Dr. Howard S.J. Walker Jr. of Mobile and Rhett W. Walker of Montrose.

Memorial services and interment of the cremains will be held at a later date in Jacksonville, Fla. Mack Funeral Home and Crematory of Robertsdale is handling cremation arrangements.

HARVEY EUGENE ETHERIDGE

BON SECOUR — Harvey Eugene Etheridge, a member of the Foley Masonic Lodge #766 and a resident of Bon Secour, died Friday in a local hospital. He was 60.

Etheridge is survived by his wife, Carrie B. Etheridge of Bon Secour; one daughter, Karen Risinger of Bon Secour; two sons, Stephen Etheridge and Larry Etheridge, both of Bon Secour; one brother, Jack Etheridge of Bon Secour; and eight grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 5:30 to 9 p.m. today at Bayview Funeral Home in Foley. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. Maburn Rhodes officiating. Masonic graveside services will follow at Witt Cemetery in Bon Secour.

GRADY FRANK JOHNSON

FAIRHOPE — Grady Frank Johnson, a native of Shelby County and a resident of Fairhope, died Friday, Aug. 28, 1998.

He was 87 years old.

Johnson is survived by his wife, Rosenell Johnson of Fairhope; two daughters, Linda Davis and Rita Green, both of Fairhope; a son, Donald Johnson of Chesapeake, Va.; a sister, Ethel Carlisle of Birmingham; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Graveside funeral services will be held at noon Monday at Pine Rest Memorial Park in Foley.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to St. James Episcopal Church in Fairhope for African missions.

EARL D. SIMMONS

LILLIAN — Earl D. Simmons, a native of Hewitt, Texas, and a resident of Lillian, died Wednesday, Aug. 26, 1998, following a long illness.

He was 74 years old.

Simmons served in the Army during World War II, attached to Gen. George Patton's regiment. He worked for Rocketdyne Division of Rockwell International for 37 years, working in the space program from the first Atlas to the Space Shuttle.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley Simmons of Lillian; four sons, Bob Simmons of California, Randy Simmons of Stevenville, Texas, Buddy Gentry of Texas and Michael Gentry of Foley; three daughters, Lynell Maas of Indiana, Rhonda Striglio of Foley and Deborah Rogers of Jackson, Miss.; a brother, Garrell Simmons of Texas; and two sisters, Joyce Childre and Mattie Copeland, both of Texas.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Faith Chapel Funeral Home in Pensacola. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Steve Dunn officiating. Burial will be in Barrancas National Cemetery with military honors.

LILLIAN — Geraldine Farror SmithConner, a native of South Carolina and a longtime resident of Lillian, died Thursday, Aug. 27, 1998.

Mrs. SmithConner is survived by a son, Milton Connor of Pensacola; two brothers, Andrew Martin and James Martin, both of Port St. Joe, Fla.; 12 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and greatgreat grandchildren.

FOLEY - Lillian Mae Hadley, a resident of Foley, died Saturday, at a Bay Minette nursing home. She was 80.

She is survived by her husband Shomo L. Hadley of Foley; one daughter, Elizabeth Hall of Bay Minette; two sisters, Madaline Boros of Elberta and Enid Bingert of Silver Hill; three brothers, Claude, Clayton and Clipton Gardner of Elberta; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Josephine "Josie" Broz

LILLIAN — Josephine "Josie" Broz, a native of Baltimore and a resident of Lillian for over 60 years, died Sunday, Aug. 30, 1998, at her residence after an extended illness.

She was 86 years old.

Mrs. Broz was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, The Altar Society, Women's Club, Veterans of Foreign Wars and was a longtime member of the Lillian Community Club.

She is survived by two daughters, Barbara Stephens and Kathy Plunkett; two sons, Jim Broz and John Broz; a sister, Anna Black; eight grandchildren, 15 great- grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today with rosary recited at 7 p.m. at Pine Rest Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, with burial to follow at Prince of Peace Cemetery in Elberta.

Carlos Marcel Colvin, who was born Aug. 17 in Mobile, died on Saturday.

The infant is survived by his parents, Carlishia Colvin and Carlin Ward, and grandparents Beverly and Larry Phillips, Marcia and John Mims and Leonard Jackson.

Lila JeBrandi Egenlauf of Mobile died Saturday at her residence. She was 2.

Ronald E. Franklin

Ronald Earl Franklin, a native of Oklahoma who resided in Mobile for two years, died Sunday at a Biloxi hospital.

Franklin, 59, was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, having served in the Vietnam War, during which he earned a Purple Heart. He also was a merchant seaman for 20 years.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia K. Franklin; a daughter, Evelyn F. Ellzey; a stepson, Dan Nettles; two brothers, Walter V. Franklin and Jan D. Franklin, both of Austin, Texas; and a grandson.

Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 8 at Pine Crest Funeral Home on Cottage Hill Road. Services are set for 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with burial at Mobile Memorial Gardens.

Derrell Z. Malpas

Derrell Z. Malpas, a former employee of Degussa Chemical Corp., died Sunday at a local residence.

Malpas, 47, was a lifelong resident of Mobile.

He is survived by his daughters, Michelle Malpas and Suzanne Malpas, both of Satellite Beach, Fla.; his mother, Joyce Crawford of Mobile; two sisters, Dianne Cleveland of Monroe, La., and Paige Mixon of Mobile; and four brothers, Randall Malpas, Gregory Malpas, Keith Malpas and Kevin Malpas, all of Mobile.

NEW IBERIA, La. — Holly Nicole McDonald, born June 1 in New Iberia, died Aug. 22 at her home.

She is survived by her parents, Rebeka Eubanks McDonald and Trent "Peanut" McDonald of New Iberia; her brother, Gage McDonald of New Iberia; grandparents Carol and Wayne McDonald of Cleveland, Ga.; Sandra and Eddie Burrell of Chatom, Ala.; Elizabeth Eubanks of Wetumpka, Ala.; Diane and Ronnie Eubanks of Tibbie, Ala.; and great-grandparents Alice and Homer Sandiford of New Iberia.

FAIRHOPE — Delbert "Del" Douglas Read died Monday, Aug. 31, 1998, at his residence in Fairhope.

Read, 56, was a native of Picher, Okla. He was a self-employed crop duster, and was currently employed at Teledyne Continental Motors.

Survivors include his wife, Gayle Read, of Fairhope; two daughters, Virginia Turner of Pensacola, and Cheryl Read of Fairhope; two sons, Jason Read of Fairhope and Alan Read of Silverhill; his mother, Dorothy Steakley and stepfather W.A. Steakley of Hokes Bluff; a brother, Wesley G. Read, of Sylvania and one granddaughter.

Visitation will be at Wolfe Funeral Home today from 6 until 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday from the Family Ministries Center in Fairhope, with the Revs. Wendell M. Rowan and Mike Seback officiating.

Graveside services and interment will be held Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. at Mobile Memorial Gardens.

William A. Stanley

William Albert Stanley, formerly employed by NYCO Security at Springhill Memorial Hospital, died Saturday at a local hospital.

Stanley, 71, was a native of New York. The Mobile resident was a member of Little Flower Catholic Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served for 31 years - including tours during World War II, the Korean Conflict and in Vietnam.

He served as assistant postmaster in Millry, Ala., and was a A Mass of Christian Burial is set for 10 a.m. today at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Birmingham. Graveside services will follow at Elmwood Cemetery in Birmingham.

Donations may be made to the American Heart Association or to the Thomasville Library.

Mae J. Lott

Mae Jordan Lott, a homemaker, died Monday in a local hospital. She was 83.

Mrs. Lott was a native of Brewton and resident of Mobile.

Survivors include her husband, Arthur L. Lott of Mobile; one son, Mack Whigham of Chickasaw; and a number of grandchildren.

Services are set for 2 p.m. today at Craver's Funeral Home in Brewton, with visitation from noon until the service time.

Christina Robinson

KUSHLA — Christina Blackston "Mydear" Robinson, a longtime member of St. John AME Church, died Aug. 26 at the age of 86.

Mrs. Robinson was a native and resident of Kushla. During her 70 years at St. John AME Church, she served as church secretary, a Sunday school teacher, stewardess, missionary and choir member.

Survivors include four daughters, Alfredetta Robinson of Brooklyn, N.Y., Christine Robinson and Earnestine Kelly of Kushla, and Stephanie Ann Robinson; three sons, Hubert Robinson of Hempstead, N.Y., Curtis Robinson of Kushla and Floyd Robinson of Prichard; two sisters, Mary Blackston of Kushla and Florida Ruffin of Mobile; two brothers, Nathaniel Blackston of Whistler and William Blackston Sr. of Kushla; 21 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be at St. John AME Church in Kushla on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the 11 a.m.

Jack C. Dixon

THOMASVILLE — Jack Curtis Dixon, who had worked as a machinist with Scotch Lumber Co., died Monday at his home.

Dixon, 83, a native of Sweet Water, Ala., resided in Thomasville. He was a member of Liberty Baptist Church, where he served as an active deacon for 33 years.

Survivors include two daughters, Faye Dixon Slade of Thomasville and Joyce Dixon Fendley of Butler, Ala.; two sisters, Viola Arnold of Birmingham and Etta Gibbs of Linden, Ala.; two brothers, Willie Dixon of Linden and Clifford Dixon of Thomasville; and five grandchildren.

Services are set for 11 a.m. today at Liberty Baptist Church, with interment in the church cemetery in Thomasville. O'Bryant Chapel Funeral Home of Thomasville is handling arrangements.
 

Elizabeth Douglas

DAPHNE — Elizabeth Douglas, a native of Mississippi and a resident of Daphne, died Monday, Aug. 31, 1998, at a local health-care facility.

Mrs. Douglas retired in 1979, having spent many years as a Dorothy Perkins Cosmetic Co. sales representative in Kentucky and Tennessee. She wrapped up her career as a representative of the New York-based Jerry Elsner Co., which manufactured stuffed animals.

For many years, she volunteered at St. Paul's Episcopal Church Thrift Shop in Daphne. She held great enthusiasm for flower and vegetable gardening, and loved animals of all kinds.

Funeral services will be held today at noon in the chapel of Bayview Funeral Home in Daphne. Visitation at the funeral home will be held one hour prior to the service.

Interment will be in the Bayview Cemetery.

Charles J. Hester

SAN JOSE, Calif. — Charles J. Hester, a native of Montgomery and longtime resident of Mobile, died Saturday in San Jose, Calif. He was 71.

He is survived by his wife, Renee Hester of San Jose; a son, Michael Hester ofCalifornia; three sisters, Doris Chadwell of Mobile, Frances Marshall of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., and Edna Powell of Jacksonville, Fla.; two brothers, William Hester of Chickasaw, and Joseph Hester of Greensboro, N.C.; and numerous grandchildren.

Services will be today in San Jose. Chapel Flowers Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

Maria Minge Lyon Wynne

POINT CLEAR — Maria Minge Lyon Wynne, a native of Mobile and longtime resident of Baldwin County, died Sunday, Aug. 30, 1998, at her home in Point Clear.

She was a Kappa Delta alumna, and was retired from AmSouth Bank. She also served on the Thomas Hospital Auxiliary for many years.

Mrs. Wynne is survived by two children, Marion E. "Tut" Wynn and Maria Wynne Gwynn, both of Fairhope; a sister, Ruth Lyon Russ of Mobile; and three grandchildren.

Visitation will be in the Parish Hall at St. James Episcopal Church in Fairhope at 10 a.m. today with a memorial service to follow at 11. Services will be officiated by the Rev. Dennis Brown and the Rev. Timothy Howe.
