Thomas Michael Crowdus, a native and resident of Mobile, died Wednesday. He was 44.

Survivors include two daughters, Tasha Nicole Crowdus and Alicia Christine Crowdus of Mobile; and four sisters, LuAnn Touchstone, Starlyn Creighton, Tammy Burchfield and Jaryn Crowdus Thompson of Mobile.

Visitation will be 11 a.m. today, with a funeral to follow at noon, at Radney Funeral Home in Mobile.

Lide Evans Lide Evans

Lide Evans Lide Evans, a retired welder with Allis-Chalmers Steel Mill, died Wednesday in a local hospital. He was 87.

Evans, a native of Darlington, S.C., resided in Mobile. He formerly lived in Ashtabula, Ohio.

He was a member of Mount Ararat Baptist Church of Pittsburgh, Pa., and a life member of the NAACP.

Survivors include three daughters, Frances Jackson of Pittsburgh, Leta Burris of Fayetteville, N.C., and Lucille Hall Sanders of Mobile; one sister, Athalon Lomas of Pittsburgh; one brother, Leroy Evans of Pittsburgh; nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation and services will be at Christian Benevolent Funeral Home Monday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
 

Robert A. Mayfield

GILBERTOWN - Robert A. "Bob" Mayfield, who was self-employed with Mayfield Timber Co., died Thursday in Toxey, Ala., He was 58.

The native Alabamian resided in Gilbertown.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce Mayfield of Gilbertown; his mother, Mary Alice Mayfield

of Gilbertown; two sons, Chris Edward Mayfield of Butler and Brennen William Mayfield of Gilbertown; three daughters, Mary Stewart Swanston of Gilbertown, Cathy Lucus of Butler and Patricia Todd of Toxey; two sisters, Alice Carol Lansdell of Muscle Shoals, Ala., and Linda Martin of Conway, S.C.; and eight grandchildren.

Visitation will be today from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Bumpers Funeral Home in Butler. Services are set for 2 p.m. Sunday at Butler Presbyterian Church with burial at 5 p.m. in Mount Zion Cemetery in Akron, Ala.
 

Ester Jean Chalk

CARRIERE, Miss. - Ester Jean Chalk, a former hairdresser, died Monday in a Slidell, La., hospital. She was 74.

Mrs. Chalk was a native of Arkansas and resident of Carriere. She lived in Mobile for many years, and had worked at Gayfers.

Survivors include her daughter, Pamela Clark Crosby of Carriere.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Pine Crest Funeral Home, where services are set for 2 p.m. Tuesday. Interment will be in Pine Crest Cemetery.

Ruthie Lee Mason

WHITE BLUFF, Tenn. - Ruthie Lee Mason, a homemaker, died Friday in a nursing facility in Ashland City, Tenn.

Mrs. Mason, 74, was a native of Tibbie, Ala. She was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include two sons, Steve C. Mason of White Bluff and Marty S. Mason of Oklahoma City, Okla.; one daughter, Ruby Regina Hilton of Mobile; one brother, Daniel Grimes Jr. of Millry, Ala.; two sisters, Pearlie McIlwain of Millry and Marie Harrel of Pascagoula; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday at Freeman Funeral Home in Citronelle. Graveside services are set for 10 a.m. Monday in Fairhope Cemetery in Chatom, Ala.
 

Alexander Breech Jr. 

Alexander Breech Jr., a native and lifelong resident of Mt. Vernon, died Wednesday. He was 77.

He was a member of St. Peter The Apostle Catholic Church, a retired employee of Barry Steam Plant and a World War II veteran.

His survivors include nine children, Mack L. Smith Jr., Alexis M. Osborne, Anthony K. Breech, M. Cassandra Breech, Eric M. Breech, Phillip O. Breech, Daniel H. Breech, Alan D. Breech and Edris L. Breech; two sisters, Naomi Bradley and Bessie L. Edwards; and 11 grandchildren.

Visitation and the Rosary will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Peter The Apostle Catholic Church. The mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Burial will be in Roper Cemetery. Donations may be made to St. Peter The Apostle Catholic Church. Arrangements are by Christian Benevolent Funeral Home.
 

Wilson Carol Norris 

Wilson Carol Norris, a native and resident of Grove Hill, died Friday at a local hospital. He was 74.

He was a member of Grove Hill United Methodist Church. He retired as a field representative for Congressman Jack Edwards.

His survivors include his wife, Lois L. Norris of Grove Hill; one son, Dan Norris of Grove Hill; two daughters, Dianne Welch of Monroeville and Carol Keever of Auburn; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be held graveside at 2 p.m. today at Smith Family Cemetery in Grove Hill. Arrangements are by Lathan Funeral Home in Grove Hill.

June Miller Waite 

June Miller Waite, a Miller native and Grove Hill resident, died Saturday at a Grove Hill hospital. She was 89.

Mrs. Waite was a retired school teacher and member of the Clarke County School Board. She also was a member of Grove Hill United Methodist Church. She attended college at the Virginia Intermont College in Bristol, Va.

Her survivors include three sons, Paul M. Waite of Gulf Shores, Philip P. Waite of Grove Hill and W. Claude Waite of Baton Rouge, La.; three daughters, Anne M. Helms of Huntsville, Barbara H. Waite of Shreveport, La., and Betty W. Denio of Conyers, Ga.; one sister, Mrs. Henry Trost of Nashville, Tenn.; 19 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Lathan Funeral Home in Grove Hill. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Grove Hill United Methodist Church. Burial will be held Monday in Grove Hill Cemetery. Arrangements are by Lathan Funeral Home in Grove Hill.
 

Belle M. Huggins 

MONROEVILLE - Belle Manning Huggins, an Eliska native and Monroeville resident, died Friday in a Monroeville nursing home. She was 94.

Mrs. Huggins was a farmer and homemaker and a member of Excel Baptist Church.

She is survived by nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 3 p.m. today at Monroe Chapel Funeral Home in Monroeville with visitation two hours before. Interment will be in Coleman Cemetery in Excel.
 

Lorayne H. Behends

FOLEY - Lorayne H. Behrends, a native of Rockford, Ill., and a resident of Foley, died Saturday, Sept. 19, 1998. She was 77.

Mrs. Behrends is survived by her husband, Stanley C. Behrends of Foley, and one son, Steven C. Behrends of Boston.

Eddrie Lucille Leunter

SUMMERDALE - Eddrie Lucille Leutner, 87, died Friday in a Foley nursing facility.

Mrs. Leutner was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Robertsdale.

Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Leutner and Ann Kreinbrink; a brother, Hubert Rhodes of Orange Park, Fla.; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

The rosary will be said at 7 o'clock tonight at Bayview Funeral Home in Foley, while the funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick's. Burial will be in Wynn Cemetery.

Alice Busbee

GULF SHORES - Alice Busbee, a native of Wesley, Okla., and a resident of Gulf Shores, died Friday, Sept. 18, 1998, at a local health-care facility.

She was 91 years old.

Mrs. Busbee is survived by a daughter, Lillian Wiles of Gulf Shores; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 1:30 to 2 p.m. Monday at Grace Fellowship Church in Gulf Shores. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. at the church with the Rev. Rick Fennig officiating. Burial will be in Lay Cemetery in Miflin.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be sent to Jesus First Ministries, P.O. Box 3929, Gulf Shores, AL 36547.

Richard M. Holifield 

Richard Matthew Holifield Jr., an employee of Clean-Rite Services, died Saturday at the age of 21.

Holifield, a native Mobilian, resided in Semmes.

Survivors include his parents, Richard and Dottie Holifield of Wilmer; one daughter, Meagan Holifield of Semmes; his grandmother, Tommie Sue Jerkins of Panama City, Fla.; one brother, Robbie Holifield of Wilmer; three sisters, Rebecca Martin of Tanner Williams, Regina Foster and Rittany Holifield, both of Wilmer.

Visitation will be Wednesday at Freeman Funeral Home in Citronelle from 5 p.m. until the 7 p.m. service. Graveside services are set for noon Thursday in Noma Cemetery in Noma, Fla.

Jesse James Mapson 

Jesse James Mapson, who retired from the U.S. Air Force as a master sergeant, died Wednesday in a local hospital.

Mapson, 50, was a native of Coy, Ala., residing in Mobile. He was a 1966 graduate of Central High School.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn R. Mapson of Mobile; one son, Ori Mapson of Mobile; his mother, Barbara Jenkins of Mobile; six sisters, Mamie Jenkins, Gwendolyn Jenkins, Wanda Jenkins, Sandra Penn, Estella May and Kathy Failes, all of Mobile; three brothers, Samuel Wiggins of Moss Point, Miss., Jack McCall and Sherman Jenkins of Mobile; and one grandson.

Viewing will be from noon to 5 p.m. Wednesday at Christian Benevolent Funeral Home, where visitation will be Thursday from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. service.

Doris Gardner 

ELBERTA — Doris Gardner, a life-long resident of Elberta, died Monday, Sept. 21, 1998, at her home after a lengthy illness. She was 70 years old.

Mrs. Gardner was a member of Berean Baptist Church in Elberta and a member of the VFW Post 5658 Auxiliary.

She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Samuel Gardner Sr.; two sons, John Gardner Jr. and Richard Gardner; two daughters, Linda Swartz-Taylor and Susan Lord; a sister, Voncile

Woerner; a brother, Claude Hodges; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. All are residents of Elberta.

Visitation will be held from 5:30 to 8 tonight at Bayview Funeral Home in Foley. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Berean Baptist Church in Elberta with burial to follow at Pine Rest Memorial Park in Foley.

Funeral arrangements are by Bayview Funeral Home of Foley.

Edna May Ellis 

FOLEY - Edna May Ellis, a native of Wildwood, N.J., and a resident of Foley, died Monday, Sept. 7, 1998.

She was 91 years old.

Mrs. Ellis was a member of Foley's Senior Center and Gloucester Township Seniors of Wildwood.

She is survived by two daughters, Grace Linnerman and Carol Chambers; a son, Ralph Ellis; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Friday at Pine Rest Memorial Park.

Local arrangements are by Pine Rest Funeral Home, Foley.
 

Robert L. Windham 

ALMA, Ala. — Robert Lawrence Windham, a retired merchant, died Monday at his home. He was 78.

Windham, a native of Gainestown, Ala., lived in Alma. He was a member of First Assembly of God Church in Jackson, Ala.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and attained the rank of staff sergeant. He received the Asian-Pacific Theater Medal with one bronze star, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one bronze star and the Purple Heart.

Survivors include his wife, Sadie Ruth Windham of Alma; two sons, Tommy Windham and Todie Windham, both of Alma; three daughters, Sarah Gates of Alma, Nancy Spence of Jackson, Ala., and Teenie Ellison of Clanton, Ala.; two brothers, Wendell Windham of Aurora, Colo., and Winston Windham of Picayune, Miss.; two sisters, Sophie Johnson of Alma and Willie Mae Dawkins of Brewton, Ala.; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be at Lathan Funeral Home in Jackson from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. today. The funeral is scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday at First Assembly of God Church on Alabama 69 North. Burial will be in Perry's Chapel Cemetery in Perry's Chapel, Ala.
 

Hazel Brooks Bouler 

SWEET WATER, Ala. — Hazel Brooks Bouler, a homemaker and member of Aimwell Baptist Church, died Monday in Sweet Water. She was 79.

Mrs. Bouler was a native of Coffee County, Ala., and lived in Sweet Water.

Survivors include two daughters, Carol Bouler Owens of Melbourne, Ala., and Samantha Bouler Ray of Sweet Water; one son, John W. Bouler Jr. of Atlanta; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be today from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at O'Bryant Chapel Funeral Home in Thomasville, Ala. Services are set for 2 p.m. Thursday at Aimwell Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery in Sweet Water.
 

Mattie Louise Helton 

MONREOVILLE, Ala. — Mattie Louise Helton, a homemaker, died Monday at her residence. She was 69.

Mrs. Helton, a native of Monroe County and resident of Monroeville, was a member of Faith Lighthouse Church.

She is survived by a daughter, Deloris Burkett of Monroeville; four brothers, Oscar Fails of Monroeville; Hillary Fails and Billy Mac Fails, both of Excel; and Cecil Fails of Jackson, Ala.; a sister, Agnes Elizabeth Lynam of Atmore; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until the 2 p.m. funeral service Wednesday at Faith Lighthouse Church in Frisco City. Burial will be in Racam Cemetery in Monroeville. Monroe Chapel Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Thomas E. Patteson 

FRANKLIN CREEK, Miss. — Thomas Edward Patteson, a native of Winnepeg, Canada, and resident of Franklin Creek, died Tuesday in Pascagoula. He was 91.

Patteson, a member of Grand Bay Church of God in Grand Bay, was retired after 36 years as a millwright with IPCO in Moss Point, Miss. He also served in the U.S. Navy.

He is survived by five sons, John Ed Patteson, Alton Patteson and Charles Patteson of Grand Bay, and William Patteson and Thomas Patteson of Pascagoula; one daughter, Vada Lundy of Grand Bay; one brother, Alfred Buddy Patteson of Atlanta; two sisters, Ruth Sumner of Grand Bay and Doris Serene of Mobile; 18 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. today at Holder-Wells Funeral Home in Moss Point. Services will be at 10 a.m., Thursday at the funeral home chapel. Burial will be in Forts Lake Cemetery in Forts Lake, Miss.
