Tchernavia Dixon
Tchernavia Wiley Dixon, who had worked with University of South Alabama
Medical Hospital on-campus facilities, died Tuesday at a local hospital
of cancer. She was 43.
Mrs. Dixon, a lifelong Mobilian, was a member of First Baptist Church
of Baltimore Street for many years.
Survivors include her husband, Percy Dixon Jr. of Mobile; three children,
Percy Dixon III, Sydra Blevins and Jyron Dixon, all of Mobile; seven brothers,
Edward Wiley, James Wiley, Maurice Wiley, Carl Wiley, Glenn Wiley, Fabian
Wiley and Andre Wiley; three sisters, Brenda Robinson, Tonya Long and Felicia
Seltzer; and four grandchildren.
Visitation will be at First Baptist Church of Baltimore Street, 1200
Baltimore, St., on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the 11 a.m. service begins.
Burial will be at Whispering Pines Cemetery, with Reese Funeral Home in

Etta Jones
Etta Jones, who attended County Line Missionary Baptist Church, died
Tuesday at a hospital in Washington County. She was 79.
Mrs. Jones, a Citronelle homemaker, was a native of Citronelle.
Survivors include a son, Donald Lee Jones of Mobile; a daughter, Mildred
Jones of Citronelle; a brother, John A. Jones Jr. of Citronelle; two sisters,
Edith Richardson of Deer Park, Ala., and Gloria Lewis of Citronelle; five
grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Addie Mary Hall, a retired assembly line worker in the seafood industry
and a lifelong Mobilian, died Sept. 17. She was 75.

Dan Le
CODEN - Dan Le, who was employed in the seafood industry, died Monday
at a local hospital. She was 61.
Mrs. Le, a native of Vietnam, resided in Coden.
She is survived by her daughter, Cuc Nguyen of Bayou La Batre, and four
grandchildren.
Visitation will be Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Roche-Belmany-Herrington
Funeral Home. Services are set for 2 p.m. Saturday, with burial at Oddfellows

Helen R. Lund
Helen Reid Lund, who had been a longtime volunteer with the American
Red Cross, died Monday at a local health care facility. She was 85.
Mrs. Lund, a native of Twin Bridges, Mont., had resided in Mobile since
1939.
Becky Mayr, manager of the volunteer office with the Mobile Bay Area
Chapter of the American Red Cross, remembered Mrs. Lund as an attractive
and proper lady who showed up faithfully on Tuesdays with two other women.
Staffers referred to them as the Three Musketeers.
During her 35 years with the Red Cross, Mrs. Lund did clerical work.
"Her big love was the blood service program," Mrs. Mayr said, recalling
how Mrs. Lund would label and number donated blood back when it was still
put into bottles.
She had received numerous recognitions for her service.
"She kept things organized," Mrs. Mayr said. "She was a trooper. You
could always depend on her. She was just a hero to us."
Mrs. Lund was a life member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
She was a member of Spring Hill Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include her son, Bruce Reid Lund of Daphne; and a brother,
Dale A. Reid of Twin Bridges.
A memorial service is set for 11 a.m. today at Spring Hill Presbyterian
Church, with the family receiving friends in the parish hall after the
service.
Private graveside services are planned. Radney Funeral Home on Dauphin
Street in handling arrangements.

Thomas J. Pitts
Thomas J. Pitts, a former warehouse supervisor with the Alabama State
Docks, died Saturday at a local hospital. He was 81.
Pitts, an Alabama native, resided in Saraland. He was a veteran of the
armed forces.
Survivors include his wife, Willie Ann Potts; three daughters, Anne
C. Sanders, Nettie Renee Shanks and Shirley Anderson; five grandchildren;and
two great-grandchildren.

James Striverson Jr., a merchant seaman, died Monday.
Striverson, 28, was a native Mobilian.

and his grandmother, Juanita Smith.

GRAND BAY - Waudean Byrd Voivedich, a former employee of TG&Y of
Biloxi and D'Iberville, Miss., died Tuesday in Mobile. She was 78.
Mrs. Voivedich, a native McLain, Miss., lived in Grand Bay and formerly
resided for many years in Biloxi. She was Catholic.
Survivors include her husband, Carl Joseph Voivedich of Grand Bay; two
daughters, Mary Ellen Breland of Huntsville and Martha Sue Renshaw of Grand
Bay; a son, Carl James Voivedich of Gulfport, Miss.; three sisters, Irene
Few of Columbus, Miss., Rhea Vitrano of San Franciso and Grace Williams
of Sumrall, Miss.; two brothers, Grady Byrd of Mobile and Devon Byrd of

at an area hospital.

DALLAS - Eleanor Hoffman, former ly of Mobile, died Tuesday at a Dallas
hospital following a brief illness. She was 77.
Mrs. Hoffman, a native of Atlantic City, N.J., had resided in Mobile
for 30 years before moving to Dallas.
Survivors include her son, Bert Klein of Dallas; a stepdaughter, Sandybeck
Lease of Atlanta; and a stepson, Ronald Hoffman of Mobile.

ELBERTA - Irene Katherine Hanft, a native of Freeburg, Ill., and a resident
of Elberta, died Tuesday, Sept. 22, 1998.
She was 98 years old.
Mrs. Hanft is survived by two sons, Robert L. Hanft of Elberta and William
E. Hanft of Bastrop, Texas; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at a later time in Belleville, Ill.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to a charity
of choice.

FAIRHOPE - James Monroe Bozeman Jr., a native of Washington County,
Ala., and a resident of Fairhope, died Tuesday, Sept. 22, 1998.
He was 74 years old.

Marie Castello of Marietta, Ga.; three sons, Leon McManus of Powder Springs,
Ga., Ronnie McManus of St. Stephens, and Tommy Bozeman of Bay Minette;

LILLIAN - Zigmund B. Zale, a native of Cleveland and a resident of Lillian,

DAPHNE - Juno Darlene Murphy, a resident of Plant City, Fla., died
at a health facility in Tampa, Fla., on Tuesday. She was 47.
Mrs. Murphy lived in Plant City, Fla., since leaving Daphne in 1989.
She worked as a special education teacher. She was a member of Turkey Creek
Baptist Church, a member of the National Education Association, the Council
for Exceptional Children and Classroom Teacher's Association.
Her survivors include her husband, Osmond Samuel Murphy of Plant City,

JACKSON — Joseph Eulee Hudson, a native and resident of Jackson, died

Eastern Star.
Survivors include his wife, Ronita Roberts Hudson of Jackson; four brothers,

JACKSON — Charles Augustus Postlewaite, a native of Dayton, Pa., and

LEROY — Richard Jackson DuBose, who lived in Leroy, died at his residence.
DuBose was retired from the U.S. Army.
His survivors include two brothers, Ralph Leo DuBose of Eight Mile and
O.C. DuBose of Houston, Texas.

Christopher Brunson
Christopher C. Brunson, an employee of the Maison DeVille Apartment
complex in Mobile, died Sunday in a local hospital. He was 67.
A lifelong Mobilian, Brunson was a country-western and gospel musician
and a member of the Gulf Coast Opry of Saraland.
The singer and guitarist was a member of the Travelers Quartet and the
Southernaires. He recorded four albums with the groups.
He was a former member of the Mobile Country Music Association.
Brunson was music director at Smithtown Baptist Church and former music
director at Azalea Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Gloria Browning Brunson of Mobile; two sons,
Christopher Brunson of Mansfield, Ark., and James Rodney Brunson of Chickasaw;
two daughters, Julia Sasser of Saraland and Deborah Brunson Few of Mobile;

Mary Lucille "Cille" Douglas, a homemaker who was a member of Mount
Pleasant Baptist Church, died Sept. 23 in a local hospital. She was 60.
Mrs. Douglas was a native and resident of Mobile.

of Pasadena, Calif., and Louis Oliver; and two granddaughters.

Mathilda Elizabeth Ingram, who operated Ingram's Beach on Chickasabogue
Creek in Eight Mile for many years, died Sunday at her home after an extended
illness.

Booker T. "Mule" Irby, a retired Civil Service employee who had worked
at the Pensacola Naval Air Station, died Friday in a local hospital. He
was 88.
Irby, a native of Camden, Ala., lived in Mobile. He was a World War
II veteran.

Francis Weldy Johnson, a native and lifelong resident of Mobile, died

Mrs. Johnson was a volunteer for a Mobile Infirmary Auxiliary for 35
years and a member of Grace Bible Church.
She is survived by her husband, Lee W. Johnson; one son, Ronald W. Johnson;
one daughter, Lynn J. Brannan, all of Mobile; three brothers, James Weldy
of Pace, Fla., Horace Weldy and Johnny Weldy, both of Mobile; three sisters,

Clarence "Scrap" Patrick, a retired fire chief with the Citronelle Volunteer
Fire Department, died Saturday in a Mobile hospital. He was 67.
Patrick, a native of Charity Chapel, Ala., lived in Citronelle.
He had served as a volunteer for more than 40 years and as fire chief
for six years. He was also a charter member of the Citronelle Rescue Service.
He attended Memorial Baptist Church in Citronelle.

Ashbee, all of Mobile; two sons, Louis Webb of Mobile and Phillip Webb
of LaPorte, Texas.

TOXEY, Ala. - Herbert Lee Sturdivant, who had worked as a carpenter
with the carpenters' union in Demopolis, died Monday in a Meridian, Miss.,
hospital.
Sturdivant, 89, lived in Toxey and was a member of Needham Assembly
of God.

BREWTON, Ala. - Marvin Kennedy Jr., a former Mobile resident living
in Brewton, died Friday. He was 63.

and Susan Kennedy, both of Mobile; a brother, Irving James Kennedy of Milton,

RED CREEK, Ala. - Florie Cynthia Miller Kirkland, who had worked as
a store owner, died Saturday in her home. She was 71.
Mrs. Kirkland was a lifelong resident of the Red Creek community near
Millry and was a member of Flat Branch Assembly of God.

ATLANTA - The Rev. Saul P. Michael, 52, pastor of St. Luke AME Church
in Midway, Ala., died Friday in a hospital in Alexander City, Ala.
Michael, a native of Prichard, lived in Atlanta. He was a graduate of
Blount High School and had been a member of Samuel Chapel AME Church in
Mobile. He attended Bishop State Community College, then served in the
U.S. Army.
Mary C. Ford
FOLEY - Mary C. Ford, a native of Lamison, Ala., and a resident of Foley
died Sunday, Sept. 27, 1998. She was 87 years old.
She is survived by two sisters, Ruby McCants of Jackson and Jimmie Lou
Turner of Millry; and 10 nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at Pine Rest Funeral Home in
Foley with visitation one hour prior to services. Burial will be in Pine
Rest Memorial Park in Foley.
Arrangements are by Pine Rest Funeral Home in Foley.
While living in Detroit, he served as vice president of a branch of
the National Bank of Detroit before being called to the ministry.
He later attended a seminary in Atlanta and received his master of divinity
degree.
Survivors include his wife, Beverly Michael of Atlanta; one daughter,
Tonya Michael of Detroit; one stepson, Jamaine Razor of Atlanta; his mother,
Eunice Michael of Prichard; six brothers, Herbert Michael and Curtis Michael,
both of Mobile, Leroy Michael and Herman Bridges, both of Detroit; Thomas
Bridges of Wilcox County, Ala., and Walter Payne of Ohio; and four sisters,
Helen Hudnell of Prichard, Ruby McCaskill of Detroit, Danny Raby of Linden,
Ala., and Ellen Gamble of Mobile.
Reese Funeral Home will announce arrangements.
Ralph Hargove Moore
CRAWFORDVILLE - Ralph Hargove Moore, a native of Washington, D.C., and
a resident of Crawfordville, Fla., died Monday, Sept. 28, 1998. He was
65 years old.
Moore was self-employed in the construction business.
He is survived by two sons, David Moore and Michael Moore, both of Crawfordville;
two daughters, Babs Basso of Crawfordville and Rebecca D.
Castellano of Fairhope; two sisters, Jean Dykes and Helen Strickland,
both of Crawfordville; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Harvey-Young Funeral
Home with the Rev. Charles Barwick and Elder Emmett Whaley officiating.
Arrangements are being handled by Harvey-Young Funeral Home.
Thomas Mund
OYSTER BAY - Thomas Mund, a lifelong resident of Oyster Bay, died Sunday,
Sept. 27, 1998. He was 81 years old.
Mund was an active member of the St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Bon
Secour and a member of the American Legion, VFW and the Shriners and Masons.
Mund transported crippled children for the Shriners to St. Jude's hospital
in Memphis, Tenn.
He is survived by his wife Audry H. Mund of Oyster Bay; a son, Robert
Mund of Oyster Bay; and three daughters, Bobbie Bemis, Mary Lou Bemis,
both of Oyster Bay and Deloria Overshine, of North Vernon, Ind.; a sister,
Mary Clark, of Pensacola; one
half-sister, Juanita Bemis of Oyster Bay; two half-brothers, Adrian
Pierce and Norman Pierce, both of Loxley; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Thursday at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in
Bon Secour from 2 until 3 p.m. when funeral services begin. The Rev. Scott
James will officiate.
Burial will follow in St. Peter's Episcopal Church Cemetery in Bon Secour.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by Baldwin Funeral Home in Gulf
Shores.
