William J. Barber

William J. "Little Joe" Barber, a native and resident of Coden died Monday at his residence. He was 74.

He is survived by his wife, Vivian Delaphine Barber of Coden; four sons, Joseph Barbour, Earl Barbour and Perry Barbour, all of Coden, and Nello Barbour of Irvington; four daughters, Diane Barbour of Coden, Cynthia Hard and Robin Barbour of Bayou La Batre, and Anna White of Irvington; two brothers, R.D. Barbour and Oliver Barbour both of Irvington; three sisters, Sally Dismukes of Coden, Bertha Bosarge and Mary Sprinkle both of Irvington.

Funeral services will be today at 10 a.m. in San Souci Baptist Church in Bayou La Batre. Interment will be in Odd Fellow Cemetery. Funeral arrangements by Serenity Funeral Home, Old Pascagoula Road, Mobile.

Charley Albert Boykin

CEDAR BLUFF, Ala. Charley Albert Boykin, a retired employee of Florida Power and Light died Monday in a local hospital. He was 69.

The Butler, Ala., native was a member of Sand Rock Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Joyce Buckner Boykin; daughter, Cathy Goss of Atlanta; two sons, Michael Boykin of Atlanta and Charles Boykin of Cedar Bluff; two sisters, Beatrice Waite of Mobile and Dorothy Godwin of Pensacola.

Visitation will be today from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at noon on Friday in the Funeral Home Chapel.

Hattie Louise Cooper

WHATLEY, Ala. Hattie Louise Cooper, a homemaker and member of Hored Baptist Church, died Tuesday at her residence. She was age 84.

She is survived by three sons, Irwin Cooper and Reg Cooper both of Jackson and Hollis Cooper Jr. of Grove Hill; one daughter, Ruth L. Cooper of Grove Hill; two sisters, Doe Lee Gwynn of Grove Hill and Lila Kinman of Mobile.

Visitation will be held at Lathan Funeral Home in Grove Hill today from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be Friday in the funeral home chapel at 10 a.m. Burial will be in the Whatley Cemetery. Arrangements by Lathan Funeral Home in Grove Hill.

Jancie Stallworth Dumas

Jancie Stallworth Dumas, a native of Universal, Ala., and resident of Mobile, died Monday in a local hospital.

She was a member of the Liberty Missionary Baptist Church in Mobile.

She is survived by a niece, Lucinda Welch of Mobile; and one sister-in-law, Mrs. Lutilla Ford of Mobile.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral service Saturday at Liberty Missionary Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Gethsemane Cemetery.

Arrangements were handled by Memorial Funeral Home.

Annie Weaver Lee

Annie Weaver Lee, a native of Brewton and longtime resident of Mobile, died Tuesday in a local hospital.

She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church and a retired employee of F.W. Woolworth and Woolco.

She is survived by one daughter, Joyce L. Wigal; one brother, James R. Weaver; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. today at Radney Funeral Home on Dauphin Street. Interment will be in Pine Crest Cemetery.

Larry Eugene McBride

Larry Eugene McBride, a native of Jackson resident of Mobile, died Tuesday at a local hospital. He was 52.

He is survived by his parents, Eugene and Elinor McBride of Whistler; a brother, Robert "Bob McBride of Mobile; three sisters, Barbara Dickins of Fairfield, Iowa; Luanna Stringer of Chickasaw; and Merrily King of Mobile.

Visitation will be noon Thursday to the 2 p.m. funeral hour at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home. Interment will be in Mobile Memorial Gardens.

Nell L. Jenkins

Nell L. Jenkins, a native of Horatio, Ark., and resident of Mobile, died Wednesday in a local hospital.

She is survived by her husband, Robert L. Jenkins of Mobile; two daughters, Sheryl Johnston of Mobile and Kathleen Morgan of Montgomery; one sister, Reta Cutler or Arkadelphia, Ark.; one brother, Gerald Barnes of Bigelow, Ark.; and five grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home chapel, with interment in Mobile Memorial Gardens.

William M. Moore

William Marshall Moore, a native of Glouscester, Mass., and resident of Saraland, died Tuesday at his home. He was 70.

Moore was a member of the VFW, Post 7320; the Purple Heart Association; DAV; the American Legion; American Veterans and the Korean War Association.

He is survived by his wife Katherine P. Moore of Saraland; one daughter, Katherine "Cassie" Moore of Saraland; one son, William "Bill" Moore of Saraland; one sister, Catherine Gallagher; two brothers, Norman A. Moore and Angus Moore, all of Glouscester.

There will be no visitation or services. Cremation arrangements are by Christian Benevolent Funeral Home.

J.E. Congleton

J.E. "Eddie" Congleton, a resident of Mobile and former resident of Atlanta, died Thursday. 

Congleton, a retiree from AT&T after 40 years, was a member of the AT&T Pioneers. He was a member of Toulmin Masonic Lodge 875 F&AM. 

He is survived by his wife, Maxine B. Congleton; two sons, Joseph E. Congleton Jr. of Roswell, Ga., and Michael Congleton of Buford, Ga.; one daughter, Nancy Wilson of Roswell, Ga.; one brother, Albert Congleton of North Little Rock, Ark.; one sister, Evelyn Pearson of Apollo, Fla.; and two grandchildren. 

Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Sandy Springs Funeral Home Chapel in Atlanta, with interment in Arlington Memorial Park. 

Memorials may be made to the American Red Cross.

Johnny Ray Lyles

Johnny Ray Lyles, a native and resident of Wilmer, died Tuesday in a local hospital. He was 53. 

He was self-employed as a carpenter. 

He is survived by his wife, Judith Lyles of Wilmer; one son, Tony Ray Lyles of Mobile; one daughter, Lynn Lyles Gardner of Wilmer; two sisters, Betty Hollingsworth of Mobile and Marsha Clay of Bay Minette; and three grandsons. 

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home on Three Notch Road. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Mobile Memorial Gardens.

Merrill Wilson 

Merrill Wilson, a native of Pickens County, Ala., and resident of Mobile, died Thursday at a local hospital. 

Wilson, a member of Cottage Hill Baptist Church, was retired from Grady Automotive. He was a U.S. Army veteran, and served in World War II. 

He is survived by one daughter, Sarah Snell of Mobile; three brothers, Eugene Wilson of Folsom, Calif., and Ralph Wilson and Mack Wilson of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; one sister, Lyda Ceal Terry of Tuscaloosa; and two grandchildren. 

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, with services at noon Saturday. Interment will be in Mobile Memorial Gardens. 

Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association or to a favorite charity.
 

Wesley McClain Sr. 

WALKER SPRINGS, Ala. - Wesley McClain Sr., a native of Clarke County and resident of Manila, Ala., died Monday. He was 67. 

McClain, a World War II veteran, was self-employed as a pulp wood worker. 

He is survived by his wife, Claudia McClain of Manila, Ala.; two sons, Winfred McClain and Wesley McClain Jr. of Manila; six daughters, Margie Fox and Pamela McClain of Gainestown, Ala., Carol Portis of Toddtown, Ala., Ella Jackson of Barlow Bend, Ala., and Mary McClain and Maurica McClain of Manila; two brothers, Julius McClain of Manila and Albert King of Saraland; two sisters, Betty McClain of Manila and Helen McMillan of California; 30 grandchildren and 67 great-grandchildren. 

Visitation will be at 2 p.m. Saturday with services at 3 p.m. at St. Matthew's No. 1 Baptist Church in Manila. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Edgar S. Lolley 

Edgar S. Lolley, a native of Alabama and resident of Gilbertown, died Thursday in a Meridian, Miss., medical center. He was 97. 

He is survived by nieces and nephews. 

Services will be at 5 p.m. Saturday at Bumpers Funeral Home in Butler, Ala. Interment will be in Red Springs Cemetery in Gilbertown.

Edwina Nelson Butts 

Edwina Nelson Butts, a former Naheola Bridge Tender for M&B Railroad, died Thursday at Riley Memorial Hospital in Meridian, Miss. She was 93. 

Ms. Butts is a native of Desota, Miss. and resident of Butler. 

She is survived by a daughter, Claire Beaty of Butler; eight grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. 

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Bumpers Funeral Home. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Bumpers Funeral Home. Interment will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens.

Delma E. Bowers 

EVERGREEN, Ala. - Delma Edward Bowers, a native of Coffee County and resident of Evergreen, died Wednesday in a Montgomery hospital. He was 76. 

Bowers, a member of Evergreen Presbyterian Church, was retired as the tax assessor of Conecuh County. 

He is survived by his wife, Margaret Bowers of Evergreen; three daughters, Frances Ryan of Greenville, Ala., Lisa Peace of Evergreen and Kay Eddins of Peterman, Ala.; two brothers, Burin Bowers of Elba, Ala., and Ellis Bowers of Brundidge, Ala.; four sisters, Louise Hysmith of Phenix City, Ala., Sybil Drum of Ozark, Ala., and Barbara Ann Bowers and Faye Bowers of Brundidge; and five grandchildren. 

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Evergreen Presbyterian Church. Interment will be in Brownville Holiness Cemetery. Call Cope Funeral Home in Evergreen handled arrangements. 
 

Sarah Donnie Foster 

WAGARVILLE, Ala. - Sarah Donnie Foster, an Alabama native and resident of Wagarville, died Thursday in a Citronelle medical facility. She was 59. 

She was a homemaker and a member of Stave Creek Baptist Church in Stave Creek, Ala. 

She is survived by one son, Jimmy Howard Foster of Wagarville; one daughter, Donna Byrd of Wagarville; one brother, George Edward Wade Sr. of Jackson; and four grandchildren. 

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Lathan Funeral Home in Jackson. Graveside services and interment will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Ebenezer Methodist Cemetery in Wagarville.
 

Sammy H. Johnson

Sammy H. Johnson, a native and resident of Mobile, died Thursday in Clarkesville, Tenn. He was 32.

Johnson is survived by his wife, Melissa Johnson of Mobile; six children, Channon Sullivan, Calvin Johnson, Jennifer Johnson, Tanner Johnson, Taylor Johnson and Trey Johnson; his mother and stepdad, Sandra and Mac Sullivan of Saraland; his grandmother, Roxie Smith of Mobile; his great-grandmother, Agnis Howard of Chickasaw; and two sisters, Carolyn Johnson of Mobile and Charlene Knowles of Axis.

Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Radney Funeral Home in Saraland. Funeral services will be at noon Monday in the funeral home chapel. Interment will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.

David B. Matthews

David Brian Matthews, a native and resident of Mobile, died Sunday in San Francisco.

He was educated in Mobile County public schools and was baptized at Corinthian Missionary Baptist Church.

He is survived by three brothers, Charles McIntyre of Miami, and Joseph and James D. Matthews, both of Mobile; and one sister, Gloria Matthews of Washington, D.C.

Visitation will be from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday at Christian Benevolent Funeral Home, and after 9 a.m. Monday at Corinthian Missionary Baptist Church. Services will begin at 11 a.m. Monday at the church. Burial will be in Whispering Pines Cemetery in Whistler.

Patricia K. McLeod

Patricia Kerlin McLeod, a native of Tuscaloosa and resident of Mobile, died Friday in a local health-care facility.

Mrs. McLeod was a 1966 graduate of Murphy High School and 1970 graduate of University of Montevallo. She was also a member of Dauphin Way United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her husband, John H. McLeod of Mobile; one son, John Allan McLeod of Mobile; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Homer E. Kerlin of Mobile; one sister, Sharon Kerlin McMillin of San Antonio, Texas; three brothers, Wayne Kerlin, Larry Kerlin, both of Mobile and Bruce Kerlin of Covington, La.; and one grandchild.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Monday at Dauphinway United Methodist Church. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday from the Carl Adkins Chapel of Dauphinway United Methodist Church. Interment will be in Pine Crest Cemetery. Arrangements by Radney Funeral Home.

Bessie Pope

Bessie Pope, a native of Beatrice, Ala., and resident of Mobile, died Thursday in a local hospital.

She was a member of Lily Baptist Church in Mobile.

She is survived by one son, James E. Stallworth of Mobile; two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from noon until 4 p.m. Sunday at Christian Benevolent Funeral Home, and after 5 p.m. Sunday at Lily Baptist Church. Services will be at 7 p.m. Sunday at the church. A procession will leave the church at 10 a.m. Monday for interment in Pine Crest Cemetery.

Tiffany L. Williams

Tiffany LaJuan Williams, a native and resident of Mobile, died Aug. 1 in a local hospital. She was 24.

She was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church.

She is survived by one son, Rashaad Ashton Young of Mobile; her parents, Edward and Leola Annette Williams of Mobile; three brothers, Anthony E. Williams of Chicago, Chadwick S. Williams of Birmingham and Torin G. Williams of Mobile; one sister, Brandi J. Williams of Mobile; and grandparents, Natalie Williams of Mobile and Lola Brown of Rancho Cordova, Calif.

Visitation will be from noon until the 1 p.m. funeral service to day at Ebenezer Baptist Church of Cottage Hill. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
 

Allen C. Campbell

Allen C. "Al" Campbell, a construction worker, died Thursday at Baptist Hospital in Pensacola. He was 56.

Campbell, a native of Olney, Ill., . and resident of Gulf Shores, is survived by his wife, Donna Bailey; a son, Allen Keith of Brownsburg, Ind.; a brother, Hal "Monte" Campbell of Decatur, Ill.; and a sister, Veleda Burke of Taylorville, Ill.

Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at Summers-Kistler Funeral Home in Olney, Ill. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Summers-Kistler Funeral Home. Interment will be in Crest Haven in rural Claremont.
 

Morgan W. Hicks

Morgan William Hicks. a resident of Leakesville, Miss., died Thursday in a Mississippi hospital. He was 89.

He is survived by three sons, Ralph Hicks, Clifton Hicks and Marvin Hicks, all of Leakesville; three daughters, Clara Dearman, Margaret Shaw and Peggy Turner, all of Leakesville; two brothers, George Hicks of Mobile and Virgil Hicks of Leakesville; three sisters, Mamie Welford of Citronelle, Jewel Cassidy of Leakesville, and Nora Woods of Citronelle; 14 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Freeman Funeral Home in Leakesville. Burial will be in Hicks Cemetery.
