Atlanta Constitution, dated September 30, 1901:

Tuscaloosa, Ala.

   Mrs. W. G. Cochrane, Mrs. Festus Fitts and Master James Fitts have
returned from a visit of several days to Mrs. John T. Cochrane at
Carrollton.

   Mr. and Mrs. G. M. Cruikshank, of Birmingham, have returned to their
home after a short visit to Mrs. Cruikshank's sister, Mrs. Walter Gulley.

   Mr. and Mrs. Roland Shugart, of Birmingham, are in the city, stopping
with Mrs. Battie.

   Rev. and Mrs. W. A. Hobson, who have been the guests of Tuscaloosa
relatives, have returned to their home in Birmingham.

   Miss Emma Lyeria, of Cinncinnati, is the guest of her aunt, Mrs. E.
Hardin.

   Mrs. R. M. Leland, of Birmingham, is the guest of Tuscaloosa 
relatives.

   Miss Daisy Roper, of Mobile, is the guest of Miss Yanita Cribbs.
Miss Roper is en route to Boston, Mass., to complete her musical
studies.

   Misses Lelia and Toteile Trueheart were the guests of Mrs. H. H.
Leland a day or two of this week.  They were en route to their home in
Galveston.

   Miss Mabel Finn is the guest of Mrs. H. H. Leland.

   Mrs. Ed Latham has been the guest of relatives at Coaling.

   Mrs. M. H. Maxwell and son, T. D. Maxwell, have returned from a stay
of several months at Capon Springs, Va.

   Mrs. W. T. McCormick and children have returned from a stay of some 
weeks at Windham Springs.

   Mrs. J. Forster has been with Birmingham relatives this week.

   Mr. and Mrs. James Hood, of Birmingham, are the guests of Mr. and
Mrs. Jake Forster, Mrs. Hood's parents.

   Mrs. Alice Wyman is at Laneville, where she will be one of the 
bridesmaids at the Cochrane-Minge wedding next Wednesday.

   An enjoyable picnic was given by the Tuscaloosa Female college 
boarders Friday in the Guild woods, a short distance from town.

   Rev. and Mrs. W. C. Whitaker, Mr. and Mrs. James H. Fitts, Mrs.
S. F. Alston and Miss Marilou Alston left Tuesday last for a six weeks'
visit to California and other western points.

   Mrs. Jane Smallwood has returned from a visit to Milwaukee.

   Mrs. Norfleet Harris and Miss Marilou Marlowe are the guest of 
friends at Laneville.

   Miss Stella Foster is in Buffalo, the guest of her friend, Mrs.
Brayton Nichols.

   Miss Ola Moore, of West Point, Miss., is the guest of Mrs. Luther
Foster.

   Mrs. Whitt and Mrs. Pettus have moved to the city and are now 
occupying the old Roddy house, one of the most historic in the state,
which Mrs. Whitt lately purchased.   They were accompanied by Mrs.
Overby and son, Virginius.

   Miss Katie Belle Harrison has returned from a visit to Mrs. Sterling
A. Wood, of Birmingham.

From the Atlanta Constitution, December 27, 1901:

Tuscaloosa, Ala.

   Tuscaloosa, Ala., December 25. -- (Special.) -- The Daughters of 
the Confederacy will present fifty-six crosses of honor to confederate
veterans on January 19, in the court house at 2 o'clock.

   The Elks are making happy the homes of many poor people this 
Christmas.  They have the former office of the Tuscaloosa Belt railway
filled with baskets of good things, which they are distributing to
their less fortunate brothers.

   The amusement hall at the Bryce insane hospital made a beautiful
scene last evening.   In the middle of the hall a large real log cabin
was built, covered with cotton to represent snow.  There were darkeys
playing banjos, a coon skin and a dog.  Trees and holly lent reality to
the scene.  In the chimney corner sat Santa Claus, who made the hearts
of the patients happy by distributing gifts among them.

   The town boys gave their Christmas dance last night, in the Sigma Nu
hall.  The leader was Mr. W. L. Tibbets.  He had as his partner Miss
Annabell Pearson.

   Miss Annie Gaines was led to the marriage altar last evening by Mr.
Edmond Breaux.  The affair was a quiet one, witnessed by only a few
intimate friends.  Mr. William Spottswood was best man, while Miss Lucy
Bealle was maid of honor.  The marriage service was spoken by Rev.
L. O. Dawson.

   The hall of the Black Warrior Club was beautifully decorated last
evening, the event being a Christmas dance, which proved to be a most
enjoyable affair.

   Miss Susie Phillips, of Birmingham, is the attractive guest of Mrs.
B. Friedman.

   Mrs. W. M. Horton, of Asheville, N.C., is the guest of her parents, 
Mr. and Mrs. H. H. Cribbs.
