BROWN
09-27-2006

Services for Edna Moore Brown, 80, will be at 2 p.m. Sept. 27 at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Jim Wilson and the Rev. Bob Ford officiating. K.L. Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Center will direct.

Brown died Sept. 25 at her residence.

Survivors include her husband, Odis Brown; a son, Bruce Brown of Tuscaloosa; two daughters, Beth Brown Vest of Hartselle and Celeste Brown Carroll of Jacksonville; a son-in-law, Ferrell Vest of Hartselle; an aunt, Mildred Acray of Rainbow City; two sisters, Marlene Sprayberry of Oxford and Barbara Barnett of Goodwater; three sisters-in-law, Nellie Brown of Anniston; Thursey Brown of South Boston, Va.; and Ione Moore of Anniston; three brothers-in-law, Marion Sprayberry of Oxford, Bert Barnett of Goodwater, and Willie Brown of Anniston; four grandchildren, Randall Johnson (Kristin); Tyler Vest; Whit Brown; and Caitlin Vest; one great-grandchild, Connor Johnson; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Dan Austin, Neal Estes, Tom Padgett, Billy Tolleson, Tom Moore, Tim Moore, Barry Barnett, and Bryant Barnett.

Mrs. Brown was born Sept. 27, 1925, in the Angel Station community to Anna Mae Bryant Moore and Joseph Edward Moore. She graduated from Jacksonville High School and held bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Jacksonville State University. She taught English for 24 years at Jacksonville High School. She was a member of the First Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and was active in the Gleaners Sunday School Class.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her stepmother, Otelia Keener Moore, and two brothers, William Moore and Haskell Moore.

Memorial donations can be made to the First Baptist Church of Jacksonville Building Fund, P.O. Box 400, Jacksonville 36265 or to a charity of choice.

HAMILTON

Private funeral services will be held for Evelyn Dean Hamilton who died Sept. 20 at Regional Medical Center in Anniston after a long illness.

Survivors include her husband, James E. Hamilton, two daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Jimmie Berry and Melinda and Wayne Hunter; a son, Jeff Hamilton; three grandsons, Justus Hunter and his wife, Ellen, John-Seth Hunter and Jordan Hunter; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Mrs. Hamilton was a native of Jacksonville and lived for many years in Virginia Beach, Va., before returning to Alabama in 1969. She was a daughter of the late John and Annie Wilkerson Dean. She was also preceded in death by four sisters, Alva Deason, Leatha Bell Parris, Alma Brown, Rosa Lee Brown and two brothers, Willard Dean and Sgt. Louis Dean.

Mrs. Hamilton was a long time volunteer with the Red Cross at Fort McClellan. She was a member of the Weaver First United Methodist Church for over 30 years, where she was active in the Builders Sunday School Class. She will be remembered for her love of family and friends, her expertise in shopping, enjoyment of fine china and tea, and her motto, “cleanliness is next to godliness”.

Mrs. Hamilton enjoyed traveling, which included three trips to Europe and many visits to see her children and grandsons. She also took pleasure in spending time with her nieces and nephews across the years.

Memorial donations can be made to the Builders Sunday School Class, Weaver First United Methodist Church, PO Box 1087, Weaver 36277.

SIBERT

Graveside services for Bronwyn Elrod Sibert, 86, of Jacksonville were at 3 p.m. Sept. 23 in the Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery in Bremen, Ga., with Rev. Dan Brown officiating. K.L. Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Center directed. Burial was in the Merritt family plot.

Mrs. Sibert died Sept. 21 at her residence.

Survivors include her husband Ray S. Sibert of Jacksonville; her children; Judith M. Larson of New York, N.Y.; Karen S. Townsend of Jacksonville; Alan R. Sibert of Roanoke, Va.; and Ronald S. Sibert of Birmingham; a sister Syble E. Thrower of Birmingham; 10 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Mrs. Sibert was born Bronwyn Valerie Elrod in Cullman County. She received her education at Bremen High School, Berry College and Marsh’s Business College. She majored in French and English. She married Charles Edward Merritt of Bremen in 1941. They had one daughter Judith Elaine Merritt.

After the death of her first husband Mrs. Sibert raised her daughter and pursued a business career with South Trust Bank of Georgia.

In 1968 she married Ray S. Sibert of Jacksonville and added three more children, Karen Sibert, Alan Sibert and Ronald Sibert and their families to hers. She loved children, sewing and embroidery. She was a Christian and enjoyed flowers in her garden year round. She was an avid bird lover and a member of First United Methodist Church.

SIDERS
09-27-2006

Services for Mary E. Siders, 70, were at 3:30 p.m. Sept. 23 at New Hope Baptist Church with Pastor Roosevelt Parker officiating. Burial will be in the Jacksonville City Cemetery with Goodson Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Siders died Sept. 18 at Jacksonville Medical Center.

Survivors include special caregivers (granddaughters), Ladreaka (Jabbar) Mays and Lawanda (Rodney) Siders; sons, Thomas Carpenter and Jessie Siders Jr.; three daughters, Gloria Gaines, Demyrs Knight and Terina Huff; two brothers, Ernest Wilson and Willie J. Wilson; 20 grandchildren, and 25 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Siders was preceded in death by husband Jessie Siders Sr.; her parents, Jake and Ernestine Brockman, and brothers, Henry, Alfonzo, Paul Cannon.

SMITH
09-27-2006

Services for Ellen Rigdon Smith, 38, of Millbrook, were at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Prattville Memorial on Sept. 24 with Rev. Gary Dopson officiating. Burial was in Prattville Memory Gardens. Prattville Memorial Chapel directed.

Mrs. Smith died Sept. 22 after an extended illness.

Survivors include her husband, Dayton Smith III; a son, Cody Smith; and her mother, Peggy Rigdon, all of Millbrook.; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Kim and Arland Hilyer of Millbrook and Gina and Donny Glass of Jacksonville; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Kay and Ronney Bland of Millbrook; her father-in-law, Dayton Smith II of Prattville; nieces, Jessica Glass, Morgan Johnson, Mattie Glass, and Abby Brown; nephews, Jordan Johnson, Cameron Glass, Alan Rigdon, Josh Rigdon, and Brandon Hilyer.

She was preceded in death by one son, Jeremy Rigdon; her father, Ruis Rigdon; and a brother, Danny Rigdon.

Pallbearers were Josh Rigdon, Alan Rigdon, Jordan Johnson, Barry Brown, Brandon Hilyer, and Danny Tillery. Phillip Free was an honorary pallbearer.

TAYLOR

Services for Charles Gene “Biggon” Taylor, 59, were at 2 p.m. Sept. 23 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Yates and Rev. Malcom Burgess officiating. Burial was in Mt. Gilead Cemetery. Chapel Hill Funeral Home directed.

Mr. Taylor died Sept. 20 at Regional Medical Center.

Survivors include his wife, Judy Taylor of Jacksonville; two sons, Bobby Gene Taylor and Jamie Dwight Taylor of Jacksonville; five sisters, Margaret Rich, Nancy Bonner, Linda Baker, and Faye Green, all of Wellington and Sally Golden of Jacksonville; seven brothers, James Taylor and Ray Taylor of Alexandria, Edward Lee Taylor, Johnny Taylor and Carl Dean Taylor of Jacksonville, Ernest Taylor and Billy Taylor of Wellington; and four grandchildren, Bridget Ann Taylor, Holly Gean Taylor, Teia Leann Taylor, and Candice Daniellie Taylor.

Mr. Taylor was a native and lifelong resident of Calhoun County. He was of the Baptist faith.
