Ficklen, James A. "Tony"

Services for James A. “Tony” Ficklen, 82, were at 11 a.m. Thursday at K. L. Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Center Chapel with Revs. David Vinson and Bill Green wood officiating. Burial was in Green lawn Memorial Gardens. Mr. Ficklen died Oct. 8 at Jacksonville Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Survivors include his wife, Ruby H. Ficklen of Jacksonville; three daughters and sons-in-law, Jean and Dwight Hulsey, Sue and Jackie Wilkins and Karen and John Steward, all of Jacksonville; nine grandchildren and their spouses, Shannon and Michael Hunter, Tony and DeShannon Hulsey, Donna and Ben Huff, Johnathan Steward, Charlie and Rita Steward, Jeff and Lori Steward, Carol and Karl Allen, Greg and Stacie Wilkins, and Jeff and Denise Wilkins; 12 great-grandchildren, eight nieces and nine nephews.
Pallbearers were grandsons, Tony Hulsey, Ben Huff, Charlie Steward, Jeff Steward, Karl Allen, Michael Hunter and Johnathan Steward. Honorary pallbearers were the men of Fellowship Baptist Church.

He was a Cleburne County native, member of Fellowship Baptist Church, supervisor for the Calhoun County Road Department for 34 years, superintendent for Anniston Memorial Gardens and announced his call to preach in 1962. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mabel W. Ficklen; his parents, James A. Ficklen and Lula Reiber; a son, Donald Ficklen; two sisters, Ardell Rainwater and Luzetta Hill; and five brothers, J. B. Ficklen, Bill Ficklen, Dudley Ficklen, Jessie Ficklen and Gerald Ficklen.

Juline Ford Willingham

10-10-2002

Services for Juline Ford Willingham, 80, were at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, September 26, at Jacksonville Church of God, with Revs. W. H. Ford, Charles Robinson, Ronald White and O. V. Sewell officiating. Burial was in Hillcrest Cemetery with K. L. Brown Funeral Home in charge.
Mrs. Willingham died Sept. 24 at her home.

Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and A. D. Mitchell and Regina and Wayne Couch, all of Jacksonville, and Kathy and Dennis Pool of Anniston; five grandchildren and their spouses, Angie and Don Gross, Lesa and Chad Overholtzer, Matthew Pool, Whitney Nunn and Brittney Nunn; three great-grandchildren, Hunter Gross, Connor Overholtzer and Ethan Overholtzer and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were John Ford, Oscar Kale, Glennis Ford, Larry Ford, Carter Jones and Jack Willingham. Honorary pallbearers were members of Jacksonville Senior Citizens Center.

Mrs. Willingham was a native of DeKalb County and a longtime resident of Calhoun County. She was a member of the Jacksonville Church of God and an evangelist with the Church of God for 54 years. She was one of the Ford Sisters Trio who sang and ministered across the Southeast and was employed by the Jacksonville Senior Citizens Center. She was preceded in death by her husband, W. T. Willingham, and 10 brothers and sisters.

Nell Standridge Cashatt

11-27-2002

Graveside services for Nell Standridge Cashatt, 80, of Birmingham, were at 1 p.m. Friday at Nectar Cemetery in Nectar, with Rev. Jeff Fulmer officiating. Valley Chapel of Oneonta was in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Cashatt died Nov. 19.

Survivors include two daughters and two sons-in-law, Betsy and Terry Goodell of Montevallo and Nina and Rusty Megois of Steele; a son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Rhonda Cashatt of Pinson; four sisters, Yvonne Fulmer of Boaz, Tsinina Crauswell of Huntsville, Mary Ellen Walker of Orange Beach and Carol Hoffman of Bellair, Md.; two brothers, Emmitt Standridge of Jacksonville and Donald Standridge of Blountsville; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Friends were pallbearers.

Mrs. Cashatt was preceded in death by her husband, James W. Cashatt Sr., her father, Otto Bishop Standridge; her mother, Gertrude Price, one sister and one son. A homemaker, she was a member of Lake Highland Baptist Church.

Karen Lee Evans

10-10-2002

Graveside services for Karan Lee Evans, 51, of Cartersville, Ga., formerly of Jacksonville, were at 4 p.m. Thursday, September 26, at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church Cemetery, with Rev. Lamar Denkins officiating.
Ms. Evans died Sept. 23 in Austell, Ga.

Survivors include a sister, Janet Vickie Evans of Anniston; a brother, Allen Evans of Jacksonville; and aunts, uncles and cousins.

Pallbearers were Gary Walker, Ray Wright, Woody James, Bobby Carr, Jeff Hogan and Dave Bentley.

Ms. Evans was a graduate of Anniston High School and Jacksonville State University. She was a Cartersville Middle School teacher for many years and a member of Heritage Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jerre Evans and Jackie Allen Evans.

Donations can be made to the Bus Fund, c/o Heritage Baptist Church, 1070 Douthit Perry Road, Cartersville, Ga. 30120.

Gary Andrews

10-10-2002

Services for Gary Andrews, 55, were at 2 p.m. Saturday, September 28, at K. L. Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Center Chapel with Rev. Garry Brown officiating. Burial was in Green lawn Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Andrews died Sept. 25 at Baptist Medical Center Princeton in Birmingham.

Survivors include his wife, Nellie Batey Andrews of Jacksonville; two sons, Marty Andrews and Jody Andrews, both of Jacksonville; his father, Rev. Gordon Andrews of Jacksonville; a brother, Terrell Andrews of Jacksonville; a sister, Freda Hollngsworth of Jacksonville; and a grandchild, Walker Andrews.

Pallbearers were nephews.

Mr. Andrews was a native and lifelong resident of Jacksonville. He was a member of Hiram Lodge 42 F&AM. He was retired from Anniston Army Depot and was a Marine Corps Vietnam veteran. He was preceded in death by his mother, Edna Andrews.

Benjamin "Benny" Ward Hilley

Memorial services for Benjamin “Benny” Ward Hilley, 72, of Big Fork, Mont., formerly of Jacksonville were at 11 a.m. Sept. 14 at St. Catherine’s Church.
Mr. Hilley died Sept. 10 after a long battle with cancer.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Margaret Hilley; two daughters and sons-in-law, Therese and Joseph Bowen of Bellevue, Wash., and Janet and Olen Walch of Alberton; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Robert and Kellie Hilley of Big Fork and Thomas Hilley of Missoula and nine grandchildren.

Mr. Hilley was the son of the late Hannah Myrick Hilley and the late Lonnie Hilley, who lived on West Mountain Avenue and later directly across the street on West Washington from his first cousins, Sara (Mrs. Gene) Wood, Jimmy Sutley and Gene Sutley. Their grandparents were Oscar B. Myrick and Daisy Ward Myrick for whom Myrick Manor is named.

Mr. Hilley attended elementary and high school in Jacksonville and was a 1947 graduate of Jacksonville High. He worked for Mr. and Mrs. R. K. Coffee at The Jacksonville News, while in high school.

He attended Jacksonville State University before entering the Air Force during the Korean War. He was discharged in Montana and remained there after completing law school.

He established a law practice in Great Falls, Mont., while working part time in the Cascade County attorney’s office. He spent 35 years in Great Falls specializing in employment and labor relations law, representing many local and international labor unions throughout the western United States.

He moved to Echo Lake, Mont., in 1988, where he spent most of his spare time planting and nurturing rare orchids in addition to oak, birch, and fruit trees. He was an avid reader, who enjoyed collecting rare books and listening to classical music.
