JENKINS
03-11-2004

Services for Houston E. Jenkins Sr., 67, of Rainbow City, were at 11 a.m. Feb. 21 at Collier Butler Chapel, with Elder David Manojilovich officiating. Burial was in Rainbow Memorial Park. Collier Butler Funeral Home was in charge.

Survivors include his wife, Edwina Jenkins; four daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie and Tommy Vernon of Gaylesville, Reba and James Ray of Cedar Bluff, and Teresa and Ray Hayes and Glenda and Joey Phillips of Rainbow City; a son, Houston E. Jenkins Jr., of Rainbow City; six sisters, Nettie Jolly and Jewel Smith of Southside, Wilma Bolton, Gnilma Ann Kerley and Bonnie Ball of Gadsden, and Imogene Yancey of Gaylesville; 14 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Mr. Jenkins was a member of Rock Hill Baptist Church. He owned and operated Houston Jenkins Tire Store in the West Point community of Jacksonville from 1955-72. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Kate Jenkins; a brother, J. W. Jenkins and an infant son, David Jenkins.

BARBER
01-22-2004

Services for Frank Sherrill Barber, 70, were at 11 a.m. Jan. 20 at K. L. Brown Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Phillips officiating. Burial was in Green lawn Memorial Gardens. Mr. Barber died Jan. 18 at Stringfellow Hospital in Anniston.

Survivors include his wife, Peggy Maxine Batey Barber of Jacksonville; a son and daughter-in-law, Randy S. and Tammy Barber of Alexandria; and two grandchildren, Brandi Jo Barber and Brooke Alexandra Barber.

Pallbearers were Harold Ray Stafford, Don Johnson, Leonard Horn, Tommy Hawkins, Josh Cash and Josh Parker.

Mr. Barber was a native of Filbert, S. C., and had been a resident of Jacksonville since 1982. He was a U. S. Marine Corps veteran and a member of Rock of Ages Baptist Church, where he played the guitar.

He was retired from SCT Mills in Piedmont. Mr. Barber was preceded in death by his son, Rodney Scott Barber.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, P. O. Box 130909, Birmingham 35213.

BOOZER
01-22-2004

Services for Sue Brittain Boozer, 94, were at 11 a.m. Jan. 19 at First Baptist Church with Rev. Jim Wilson and Rev. Bert Breland officiating. Burial was in Green lawn Memorial Gardens with K. L. Brown Funeral Home in charge.

Mrs. Boozer died Jan. 16 at her home.

Survivors include three daughters and two sons-in-law, Marlene and Steve Pyron of Mexico Beach, Fla., Lorraine and Joe Folino of Southbury, Conn., and Phyllis Sue Boozer of Wilton, Conn.; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were grandsons and great-grandsons.

Mrs. Boozer was a native and lifelong resident of Calhoun County. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd G. Boozer; two sisters, Juanita Wilson and Eva Clements, and three brothers, Clyde O. Brittain, Johnny E. Brittain and Herman Rudd.

Mrs. Boozer taught school for 39 years in Calhoun County, Anniston and Fort McClellan. She was a member of First Baptist Church and taught the college girls Sunday school class for 35 years. She was an avid gardener who always had seasonal flowers in her front yard. She loved to travel and tell stories from her trips.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Jacksonville or to New Beacon Hospice, 818 Leighton Ave., Suite A, Anniston 36207 or to a favorite charity.

DAUGETTE
01-22-2004

Memorial service were at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at The Episcopal Church of the Holy Comforter for Mary Elizabeth Moody Daugette, Gadsden, who died Jan. 14. The Revs. James Elliott and John Cruse officiated. Collier-Butler Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Daugette was born in Piedmont to Grace Wilmer McCollister and Martin Theophilus Moody III, a pioneer family in that area. She went to Piedmont High School and graduated from Montevallo University with a degree in music.

She married Forney Rutledge Daugette of Jacksonville in 1929, and they had two children.

She resided in Jacksonville for many years and was involved in many civic and church activities. She was a member of United Daughters of the Confederacy, Colonial Dames XVII Century, Daughters of the American Revolution, Dames of Court of Honor, Annie Forney Daugette Garden Club and the Forney Historical Society. She was a member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, where she was the organist for over 40 years. She also served in many other roles including Vestry, choir, Sunday School and Altar Guild. She moved to Gadsden in 1973 and became an active member of The Episcopal Church of the Holy Comforter, serving on the Altar Guild and in the Episcopal Church Women. She was confirmed at Christ Episcopal Church in Piedmont in 1923. She later donated the church building to a parish in Albertville, where the church was moved.

Mrs. Daugette was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sisters, and one son, Clarence William Daugette.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Forney Rutledge Jr., and Mary Reed Daugette; her brother and sister-in-law, Martin Theophilus Moody IV and Arlene; her sister-in-law, Mrs. Clarence W. Daugette; five grandchildren, Forney Rutledge Daugette III and his wife, Lisa Dawn, William Reed Daugette and his wife, Perri, Mary Elizabeth D. Westerman and her husband, Jan, Monna D. Mayhall and her husband, Doug, and Dorsey D. DeLong and her husband, Geoff; 10 great-grandchildren, Rutledge and Abigail Daugette, Mary Reed and William Daugette, Dorsey, Kelsey and Jannie Westerman, Jackson Mayhall, Mary Stewart and Harrison DeLong; nieces, Susan Grace Moody, Anne D. Renfrow and Alburta D. Lowe; and nephews, Clarence William Daugette and Jonathan Calvert.

Memorials may be made to The Episcopal Church of the Comforter Music Fund or to a favorite charity.

PARRIS

Services for Clara Francis Roberts Parris, 85, were at 11 a.m. Jan. 15 at K. L. Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Center chapel with Revs. Kyle Black and Nelson Mahaffey officiating. Burial was in Green lawn Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Parris died Jan. 12 at Jacksonville Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, R. G. and Inez Parris of Jacksonville, Ray and Shelby Parris of Anniston and Adrian and Louise Parris of Cedar Bluff; six daughters and sons-in-law, Jerrice and Randy Lusk and Annette and Kyle Black, all of Anniston, Barbara and Mike Bishop of Trussville, Betty and Nelson Mahaffey and Dorothy and Mark Norman, all of Jacksonville, and Teresa and Charles King of Waco, Ga.; a daughter-in-law, Pat Parris of Jacksonville; a sister, Martha Dewberry of Tallapoosa, Ga.; a brother, James Roberts of Tallapoosa; 22 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Parris, a Tallapoosa, Ga., native, had lived in Jacksonville since 1934. She was the oldest living member of Friendship Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank L. Parris; a son, Milton Parris; two sisters, Edna Gray and Kate Roberts; and three brothers, Edgar Roberts, Walker Roberts and Harold Roberts.

PARKER
01-22-2004

A memorial service for Mildred E. Parker, 86, of Wadena, Minn., formerly of Jacksonville, was held Jan. 17 in Northbrook/Glenview, Ill., where she was living in a retirement home.

Mrs. Parker died of natural causes on Jan. 13.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia and Donald Paxton of Manassas, Va., and Susan and George Emme of Glenview, Ill.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Steve and Lois Parker of Minneapolis, Minn., and Jeffrey and Suzanne Parker of Portland, Ore; and eight grandchildren and their spouses, Katherine and Bill Mitchell, Brandon Wessel, Melissa and Miles Powell, Betsy and Fred Garnes, Corad and Rosalie Parker, Sam Parker, Chad Parker and Sarah Parker.

A few years after the death of her husband, Walt, in 1969, to whom she was married 30 years, she moved from Wadena to Jacksonville to be near her daughter, Pat. She remained in Jacksonville for more than 25 years.

Mrs. Parker participated in social and service organizations and volunteered in several organizations, including the Jacksonville Public Library and First Presbyterian Church, of which she was a member. She enjoyed bridge and being with her family and friends.

She was born in Sterling Colo. Her parents are the late William Tetsell and Alice Sheldon Tetsell.

Memorials may be made to the Jacksonville Public Library, 200 Pelham Road S., Jacksonville 36265.
