After their meeting, she began to play “Match Maker” for her oldest son, Warren. he enjoyed sharing jokes (that might lift an eyebrow) with his mother-in-law, “Nannie”, the wife of a Methodist Minister. He was in the Army during World War II and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. His unit was the first to cross the Ramagen River, in a battle from which he was one of only a few survivors. His bravery during battle made him eligible for the Silver Star. He was the director for the Alabama Farm Bureau and the President of the Andalusia Farmer’s Co-Op. After retiring from farming full-time, he still enjoyed working with the earth. He gained great pleasure from growing large gardens and sharing the fruits of his labor from his bountiful gardens with family, the community, and friends both far and near. He was a warm, empathetic man. A mentor to many, he was loving and giving to everyone. Pleasure in his life came from his family and friends while being active in fishing, card games, working with animals, and playing with children. Reminiscing and telling family stories about his childhood with his brothers, sisters, and cousins brought him great delight. Mr. Brown touched everyone he met with his kind spirit, and will be missed by many. Although he is no longer with us, his lessons of love, patience, compassion, and bravery will not be forgotten.
