Lawrence W. Cole

Funeral services for Lawrence W. Cole, 85, of Hartselle will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 8, 2002 at Salem United Methodist Church, the Revs. David Weaver and W. L. Cole officiating, with burial in Salem Cemetery in Hartselle.

Peck Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Cole died Wednesday, Sept. 4 at Hartselle Medical Center. He was born Feb. 11, 1917 in Morgan County to Walter L. and Sallie M. Cowan Cole. He was a railroad engineer for L & N Railroad, now CSX, for 37 years. He was a member of Inglenook Baptist Church, but for the last 25 years he attended Salem United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a grandson, Gordon Speegle.

Survivors include his wife, Lola Cole of Hartselle; a daughter, Delorese (Tharon) Speegle of Hartselle; a brother, the Rev. W.L. (Margaret) Cole of Hartselle; two sisters, Bessie (Troy) Byrd of Hartselle and Freda (Buddy) Adams of Birmingham; a grandson, Jeffery Speegle; a great-grandson, Brad Speegle; a great-granddaughter, Melissa Gillispie; and a great-great-grandson, Cole Gardner.

Pallbearers will be Brad Speegle, Johnny Adams, Eugene Cole, Dwight Cole, Bob Miller, and Ronald Cole.

Visitation will be 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Marie B. Smith

Funeral services for Marie B. Smith, 75, of Collinsville, formerly of Cullman, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, 2002 at Collinsville Funeral Home-Sharpe Chapel, the Rev. Gary Sarratt officiating, with burial in Tuckers Chapel Cemetery.

Collinsville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Smith died Wednesday, Sept. 4 at Baptist Medical Center Cherokee.

She was preceded in death by two husbands, Warner Banks and Melton “Bug” Smith.

Survivors include a son, Raymond (Karen) Banks of Falkville; four daughters, Mildred Olinger and Joyce (Danny) Ashley of Cullman, Vennie (Freddie) Smith and Vera (Dale) Barnes of Sand Rock; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Connie Nail of Collinsville and Sue Blackmon of Houston, Texas.

Pallbearers will be Jeffery Banks, Chris Ashley, LaBron Barnes, Anthony Baldwin, Shaun McElhaney, and Richard Wright. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Albert Smith
Funeral services for Albert Smith, 79, of Cullman will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, 2002, at Moss Service Chapel, Frank Wood and Larry Brown officiating, with burial in Cullman City Cemetery.

Moss Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Smith died Thursday, Sept. 5 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was an inspector for Cullman Products and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served in World War II.

He was preceded in death by his wife and mother of his children, Ethylene Chambers Smith; a son, Wendell Albert Smith; and his parents, Elmus and Mandy Powell Smith.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Smith; a son, Harold D. (Cathy) Smith; a daughter, Joan C. (Paul) Dalton; two stepdaughters, Pamela Kaye (Ken) Mann and Vicki (Mike) Gilbreath; two brothers, J.L. and Burl Smith; two sisters, Alice Butler and Lillie Mae Newberry; and seven grandchildren, Delicia Dalton, Charise Helton, Heather Smith, Hillary Smith, Tyler Smith, Shona Gilbreath, and Aundrea Mann.

Visitation was Friday.

Christine Sheats Parker

Funeral services for Christine Sheats Parker, 84, of Cullman will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, 2002 at Moss Service Chapel, the Rev. Wayne Cook officiating, with burial in Cullman City Cemetery.

Moss Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Parker died Thursday, Sept. 5 at her residence.

She was preceded in death by her parents, W.A. and Fannie Rowell Sheats. She was a bookkeeper.

Survivors include her husband, John B. Parker of Cullman; a brother, William Sheats of Eureka Springs, Ark.; a sister, Agnes Reid of Madison; 10 nieces; and seven nephews.

Visitation was Friday.

Edith Goodlett

Funeral services for Edith Goodlett, 72, of Addison will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 9, 2002 at Friendship Baptist Church in Winston County, Glenn Wood and Roland Westmoreland officiating, with burial in the church cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.

Williams-McCracken Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Goodlett died Friday, Sept. 6 at Woodland Medical Center. She was born March 19, 1930 in Lawrence County to John R. and Bethel Kemp Westmoreland. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Nuelson Goodlett.

Survivors include two sons, Nuelson Goodlett Jr. and John E. Goodlett, both of Addison; and two brothers, Henry L. Westmoreland and Cleo Westmoreland, both of Addison.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday.

Iva Lee Blackmon

Graveside services for Iva Lee Blackmon, 87, of Hanceville Friday, Sept. 6, 2002 at Cullman City Cemetery, Dr. Bill Burkett officiating.

Hanceville Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Blackmon died Wednesday, Sept. 4 at her residence. She was born June 8, 1915 in Cullman to John W. and Lizie King Rigsby. She was a homemaker and a member of Seventh Street Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dave Blackmon; two brothers, Kyle C. and Gilbert Rigsby; two sisters, Luva Mae Nix and Lois Griffin; and a stepdaughter, Iris Hyatt.

Survivors include two sons, Fred (Donnie) Blackmon of Crane Hill and Kelvin (Ann) Blackmon of Arab; two daughters, Diana (Delano) Cagle of Hanceville and Linda (Michael) Schaefer of Cullman; three stepdaughters, Mary Bennefield of Scant City, Villa Dean King and Gaynell Nunnelly of Arab; a stepson, Dwaine “Bud” (Pat) Blackmon; a sister, Eunice Wilkins of Cullman; eight grandchildren, Mark Sullins, Donna Blackmon, Tara Sartin, Jason Blackmon, Leah Messick, Chad Blackmon, Cindi Burns, and Christopher Schaefers; and six great-grandchildren, Zachary Sullins, McKenzie Blackmon, Brittany Blackmon, Dalton Sartin, Alli Messick, and Kie Burns.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Alacare Hospice.

Pallbearers will be Mark Sullins, Chris Schaefers, Chad Blackmon, Jason Blackmon, J.J. Burns, Steven Sartin, Bill Parker, and Greg Parker.

Visitation was Thursday.

Laura Arlean Jackson

Funeral services for Laura Arlean Jackson, 80, of Gardendale will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 8, 2002 at Nichols Funeral Home, Glenn Wood and David Miller officiating, with burial in Sardis No. 2 Cemetery.

Nichols Funeral Home of Addison is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Jackson died Friday, Sept. 6 at Carraway Methodist Hospital in Birmingham.

Survivors include a son, Dru Jackson of Gardendale; a daughter-in-law, Bobbie Jackson; two sisters, Fannie Porter and Jaunita Howse, both of Addison; a brother, Barney Porter of Arab; and three grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

James ‘Jim’ F. Kay
Graveside services for James “Jim” F. Kay, 74, of West Virginia will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2002 at Jones Chapel Church of Christ Cemetery.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Kay died Thursday, Sept. 5 at his residence. He was born Oct. 27, 1927 in Hopewell, Pa. He was a member of Christ Community Church in Augusta, W. Va. and a member of the Masonic Lodge in San Diego, Calif. He was a technician on missiles for the military, having served during the Korean Conflict, retired from civil service where he served the U.S. Navy, U.S. Army, National Guard, and Merchant Marines.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Morris and Orpha Worthing Kay; and one brother.

Survivors include his wife, Thelma Lorraine “Lori” Bragg Kay of West Virginia; two daughters, Brenda Utz of Arnold, Md. and Anita Kay of Glendale, Calif.; a sister, Ruth Moller of Wesminister, Md.; two grandsons, Benjamin an Samuel Utz; and special pet, Brandy.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Christ Community Church in Augusta, W. Va. or Hospice of the Panhandle at 122 Waverly Ct., Martinsburg, W. Va. 35401.

David Alan Huffman

Services for David Alan Huffman, 43, of Hanceville will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 9, 2002, at Hanceville Funeral Home Chapel, with burial in Damascus Cemetery.

Hanceville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

He died Sept. 7 at Baptist Medical Center-Montclair.

Survivors include his mother, Mariglynn (Boren) Spears of Hanceville; and three brothers, Albert (Butch) Huffman, Randy Joe Huffman and Eddie Spears.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Earl Henry McCain

Services for the Rev. Earl Henry McCain, 90, of Cullman will be at 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 8, 2002, at Sardis Baptist Church No. 2, the Revs. Vernon Willis and Paul Hicks officiating, with burial in the adjoining cemetery. The body will lie in state for one hour prior to the service.

Moss Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

He died Sept. 6 at Morningside Assisted Living. He was a farmer and minister, the son of Will and Ollie McAdams McCain.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Willie Maude McCain; and a son, Bobby Ray McCain.

He is survived by a daughter, Betty McCain Hudson of Cullman; a son, Tony McCain of Hartselle; a brother, Vernon McCain; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Hospice of Cullman County.

Arnice Rasco Heitmueller

Services for Arnice Rasco Heitmueller, 87, of Vinemont will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 8, 2002, at St. John’s Evangelical Protestant Church, the Revs. Robert Kurtz and Chris Hester officiating, with burial in Cullman City Cemetery. The body will lie in state for one hour prior to the service.

Moss Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

She died Sept. 6 at her home. She was born Oct. 25, 1914, the daughter of the late J.W. and Lula Screws Rasco. She was a housewife and farmer.

Survivors include her husband, Edward F. Heitmueller; two nephews, Ray Heitmueller and Elwin Rasco; and a niece, Jane Rasco Warnke.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to St. John’s Church.
