Melissa Neal Bice
Services for Melissa Neal Bice, 40, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 16, 2001 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, the Rev. Harold Hermetz officiating, with burial in Cullman Memory Gardens. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.

Moss Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Bice died Thursday, Dec. 13 at I-65 at the 297 mile marker. She was born in Alabama on March 8, 1961 to Kenneth and Dorothy Warnke Neal. She was an accountant.

She was preceded in death by her mother.

Survivors include her husband, David Bice; a son, Cole Bice; a daughter, Hilary Bice; a brother, James Neal; her father, Kenneth Neal; a sister-in-law, Renee Neal; and her mother-in-law, Kathaleen Bice.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today.

Bertha L. Parker

Services for Bertha L. Parker, 90, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 16, 2001 at Cullman Heritage Funeral Home Chapel, Marvin Bryan officiating, with burial in Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Parker died Friday, Dec. 14 at Woodland Medical Center. She was born in Cullman County on Dec. 4, 1911 to Levi and Madge Arizona Westmoreland Chumley. She was a homemaker and a member of Jones Chapel Missionary Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, J.W. Parker; and one son, James Parker.

Survivors include a son, J.C. (Miriam) Parker of Cullman; three sisters, Mae Irene Hankey of Cullman, Ruby Newsmith and Vernie Chumley, both of Decatur; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Modene Stricklin

Services for Modene Stricklin, 50, of Bremen will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, 2001 at Bethany Baptist Church, the Revs. Johnny Freeman, Timmothy Davis and Milt Hill officiating, with burial in Bethany Cemetery in Crane Hill.

Hanceville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Stricklin died Thursday, Dec. 13 in Cullman. She was born in Cullman on Oct. 3, 1951 to Ogle and Oleta Williams Campbell. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her father; and one sister, Wanda Hipp.

Survivors include her husband, Donald Wayne Stricklin of Bremen; her mother of Crane Hill; one daughter, Devan (Brian) Ponder of Cullman; two sons, Daniel (Carla) Stricklin of Vinemont, Donald W. (Lorrie) Stricklin Jr. of Bremen; one brother, Raymond (Frances) Campbell of Crane Hill; one sister, Zelda (George) Phillips of Bremen; and four grandchildren, Austin Stricklin, Noah Stricklin both of Vinemont, Brennen Stricklin, Hannah Stricklin both of Bremen.

Visitation was Friday.

Ann P. Voegele
Memorial services for Ann P. Voegele, 81, of Cullman were Monday, Dec. 10, 2001 at Williams-McCracken Funeral Chapel, with James McGraw officiating.

Williams-McCracken Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Voegele died Saturday, Dec. 8 at her residence. She was born Oct. 4, 1920 in Pittsburgh, Pa. to Abraham Harry and Anna Ashelman Phillips. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include two sons, Ed Voegele of Cullman and Robert Boegele of Keller, Texas; two daughters, Barbara Ubec of Seneca Falls, N.Y. and Carol Johnson of Bentonville, Ark.; a sister, Renelda Tyrrell of Helendale, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude.

No visitation is planned.

Edward ‘Buddy’ Brock

Services for Edward “Buddy” Brock, 69, of Cullman will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2001 at Williams-McCracken Chapel, the Revs. Curtis Cockran and Carlton Bates officiating, with burial in Bethsadia Cemetery.

Williams-McCracken Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Brock died Saturday, Dec. 8 at his residence. He was born Dec. 31, 1931 in Cullman County to Odis Franklin and Maudre Thomas Brock. He was a sheet metal worker and a veteran of the U.S. Army.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Agnes Thompson Bates Brock; a son, Wallace Bates; and a sister, Ella Faye Doedtman.

Survivors include three sons, Levi Brock and Dennis (Kathy) Bates, both of Cullman, and Dale (Judy) Bates of Dalton, Ga.; three daughters, Jan M. Brock and Beverly (Marlon) Bates, both of Cullman, and Shelda (Evon) Johnson of Bremen; two brothers, Bobby Brock of Cullman and Jimmy Brock of Hanceville; three sisters, Jean Brock of Cullman and Dean Fields and Freida Partain, both of South Carolina; and 11 grandchildren, Barry Johnson, Kim Johnson, Russel Johnson, Randy Bates, Evelyn Brown, Keith Bates, Cristie Bates Jammie Bates, Leslie Bates, Jeremy Bates and Lindsey Bates.

Visitation was Monday.

Nell Catheree Johns

Services for Nell Catheree Johns, 75, of Vinemont will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2001 at Williams-McCracken Chapel, John Gibson officiating, with burial in Hebron Church of Christ Cemetery in Hulaco.

Williams-McCracken Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Johns died Sunday, Dec. 9 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. She was born Sept. 23, 1926 in Cullman to Benjamin Franklin and Ruby Lee Farley Moses. She was a cook.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her husband, Joseph Pierce Johns of Vinemont; four sons, Russell P. Johns of Lawrenceburg, Tenn., Joe R. Johns of Russellville, Raymond L. Johns of Hanceville and Ronald G. Johns of Lake Asbury, Fla.; two daughters, Rheba A. Acton of Hayden and Marsha N. Morris of Goshen, Ky.; a brother, Kelvin Moses of Pinson; 18 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Visitation was Monday.

Vester Eugene ‘Cowboy’ Burks

Services for Vester Eugene “Cowboy” Burks, 82, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2001 at Williams-McCracken Chapel, the Rev. David Chambers officiating, with burial in Holly Pond Cemetery.

Williams-McCracken Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Burks died Sunday, Dec. 9 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born April 15, 1919 in Holly Pond to David Lee and Velzure Gilley Burks. He was an operator in a fertilizer plant.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a son, Roy Kenyon Burks.

Survivors include his wife, Alice Garlan Burks of Cullman; four sons, Wendal Burks of Birmingham, Wayne Burks, Richard Burks and D.L. Denton, all of Cullman; a daughter, Bonita Gunter of South Carolina; five stepsons, Billy Harris, Jimmy Harris, Ronald Harris, Ricky Harris and Bruce Harris, all of Cullman; two stepdaughters, Libby Reid and Bertha Burks, both of Cullman; a sister, Mozel Willis of Holly Pond; 14 grandchildren; 13 step-grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and 12 step-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today.

Ruth Nell Hale

Services for Ruth Nell Hale, 75, of Cullman will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2001 at Bethlehem West Baptist Church, Jerry Lake officiating, with burial in the adjoining cemetery.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Hale died Saturday, Dec. 8 at St. Vincent’s Hospital. She was born Oct. 31, 1926 in Cullman County. She was a licensed practical nurse.

She was preceded in death by her father, Joseph Alton McBrayer.

Survivors include her husband, Lenard Hale of Cullman; her mother, Gladys Cagle McBrayer of Cullman; a son, Michael (Vicki) Hale of Cullman; two brothers, Rex (Alene) McBrayer and Ralph (Delores) McBrayer, both of Cullman; a sister, Ruby Davidson of Russellville; and four grandchildren.

Visitation was Monday.

Lois Lee Pearson

Services for Lois Lee Pearson, 80, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2001 at East Point Church of God, the Revs. O’Neal Franks and Jeff Bennett officiating, with burial in Jones Chapel Cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Pearson died Sunday, Dec. 9 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. She was born April 21, 1921 in Cullman County to Albert Monroe and Laura White Lee. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Floyd Edgar Pearson; and her son, Wayne Pearson.

Survivors include two sons, Dale (Sandra) Pearson and Donnie (Dianne) Pearson, both of Cullman; a daughter, Deborah (Doug) Jenkins of Cullman; a daughter-in-law, Pat Pearson of Arley; three sisters, Liller Sandlin of Birmingham, Lora (Duke) Hudson and Loella (Edward) Hudson, both of Cullman; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Pallbearers will be Randy Pearson, Shan Pearson, Darian Pearson, Keith Banks, Dustin Thompson, Josh O’Neal and Doug Jenkins, Jr.

Visitation was Monday.
