Perna O. Cruce

Funeral services for Perna O. Cruce, 83, of Brushy Pond will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2002 at Johnson Grove Methodist Church, Joe Calvert officiating, with burial in Johnson Grove Cemetery in Bremen.

Hanceville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Cruce died Sunday, Oct. 27 at Hanceville. She was born in Cullman on April 26, 1919 to William Christopher and Daisy Light Godfrey.

She was preceded in death by parents.

Survivors include a son, Larry (Teresa) Cruce of Leesburg, Fla.; a sister, Mae Hancock; four grandchildren, Ben Cruce, Jason Cruce, Marty Cruce and Scott Cruce; and nine great-grandchildren.

Visitation was Monday.

Deborah W. Berry

Memorial services for Deborah W. Berry, 54, of Crane Hill will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2002 at All Saints Episcopal Church in Homewood.

Ridouts Valley Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Berry died Saturday, Oct. 26. She was a member of Grace Episcopal Church in Cullman and a public education teacher for 25 years.

Survivors include her husband, Kenneth W. Berry; a daughter, Ashley Berry (Ben) Denton of Birmingham; a son, Chad (Mallie) Berry of Tuscaloosa; two sisters, Diane (Bob) Corley of Schwenksville, Pa. and Kim (Harold) Pearson of Helena; father, Russell Williams; and step-mother, Christine Williams.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Grace Episcopal Church Building Fund, 305 Arnold St., Cullman 35055.

Phillip Gary Speakman
Graveside services for Phillip Gary Speakman, 55, of Biloxi, Miss., formerly of Cullman, will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2002 at Cullman City Cemetery, Dennis Trimble and Richard Bolin officiating.

Moss Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Speakman died Saturday, Oct. 26 in Gulfport, Miss. He was a long-time resident of the Mississippi Gulf Coast. He served in the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Army during the Vietnam war. He worked as a machinist at Trinity Marine.

He was preceded in death by his father, Willie Mason Speakman.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley Speakman of Biloxi, Miss.; two sons, Jeff Speakman of Folsom, Calif. and Thomas Iverson of Fort Polk, La.; three daughters, Lisa Speakman of Tustin, Calif., Tonya Wilson of Cullman and Katrina Everett of Hohenwald, Tenn.; his mother, Nell Burke of Cullman; a brother, Hugh Speakman of Alabama; and four granddaughters.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Martha Nunnelley

Funeral services for Martha Nunnelley, 88, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2002 at Moss Funeral Chapel, the Rev. Bob Murray officiating, with burial in Cullman City Cemetery.

Moss Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Nunnelley died Tuesday, Oct. 29 at Woodland Village Health Care Center. She was born Aug. 5, 1914.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John W. and Louise Fannin Manley; and her husband, Winfred A. Nunnelley.

Survivors include her cousin, Alice Faye Reese.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice of Cullman County, 402 4th Ave. NW, Cullman 35055-1948.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until time of service today.

Lureda Daniels Brake

Funeral services for Lureda Daniels Brake, 87, of Hanceville, formerly of Pensacola, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 31, 2002 at Cullman Heritage Chapel, the Rev. Bob Murray officiating, with a graveside service and burial in Bayview Memorial Cemetery in Pensacola, Fla. at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 1, 2002.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Brake died Monday, Oct. 28 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. She was born July 6, 1915 in Okaloosa County, Fla. to James and Mary Johnson Daniels. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Daniel Elzie Brake; her sister, Irene Bernier; and two brothers, Samp Daniels and Eli Daniels.

Survivors include two daughters, Dianne (Tom) Edgington of Dayton, Ohio and Delores (J.P. “Bud”) Hopkins of Cullman; a sister, Nell House of Meraux, La.; a sister-in-law, Atris Davis of Pensacola, Fla.; five grandchildren, Cindy Morrow and Diedre Harbin of Cullman, Ronnie Vaughn, Terri Skiver, both of Dayton, Ohio, and Erica Adams of Pensacola, Fla.; and 13 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the First United Methodist Church of Cullman at 324 3rd Ave. SE, Cullman 35055.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Marvin Clarence McAfee

Graveside services for Marvin Clarence McAfee, 97, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2002 at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Crane Hill, the Rev. Paul Campbell officiating.

Hanceville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. McAfee died Sunday, Oct. 27. He was born in Cullman County on Jan. 20, 1905 to George Washington and Virginia Cagle McAfee.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include two sisters, Belle Anderson of Cullman and Tressie Calvert of Crane Hill; two nephews, Ray George McAfee and Jerry Moore; and two nieces, Virginia Calvert and Polly Easterwood.

Visitation was Tuesday.

Michael Joe ‘Mike’ Aaron

Funeral services for Michael Joe “Mike” Aaron, 43, of Florence will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2002 at Elkins Funeral Home Chapel in Florence, Greg Woodall officiating, with burial in Curry Cemetery in Jasper.

Elkins Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Aaron died Monday, Oct. 28. He was born in Florence on March 6, 1959 and was a 1977 graduate of Rogers High School. He attended First Assembly of God. He graduated from Shoals Community College in 1979. He owned The Mane Place. He occasionally provided his services doing makeup and hair for the Miss UNA Pageant contestants.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Bart L. Aaron and Elda Aaron.

Survivors include his parents, Joe and Joyce Aaron of Florence; his maternal grandfather, Olen (Thelma) Legg; his maternal grandmother, Mae Richardson; two sisters, Sandy Aaron of Florence and Jannie Aaron (Morris) Grammer of Hartselle; and three nieces, Brittany, Courtany and Lesley.

Memorials may be made in Mike’s memory to the American Heart Association local chapter, and the First Assembly of God building fund.

Pallbearers will be Morris Grammer, Doug Legg, Carl Waters, Mark McBride, Doug Aaron and Tim Aaron. Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy Legg and David Darnell.

Visitation will be at 10 a.m. today at the funeral home.

Alice Faye Martin
Funeral services for Alice Faye Martin, 62, of Sumiton will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 1, 2002 at New Horizon Memorial Chapel, the Revs. J.C. Raynor and Dusty Hammock officiating, with burial in East Dora Cemetery.

New Horizon Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Martin died Tuesday, Oct. 29 at Baptist Princeton Medical Center. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, W.D. Martin.

Survivors include two daughters, Brenda Yarbrough of Sumiton and Doris (Anthony) Abbott of Bremen; two sons, George “Bits” (Diane) Martin of Sumiton and Donald (Cindy) Martin of Wilsonville; two sisters-in-law, Mattie Blevins of Cullman and Doris Pettitt of Cordova; a brother, Melvin (Pat) Holt of Sumiton; 12 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Phillip O. Watson Jr.

Funeral services for Phillip O. Watson Jr., 52, of Bremen will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1, 2002 at New Horizon Memorial Chapel, Patrick James Watson and Larry Quinn officiating.

New Horizon Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Watson died Wednesday, Oct. 30. He was employed at Drummond Coal Company and was a member of Dilworth Freewill Memorial Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Cathy Watson of Bremen; a son, Patrick James (Kathy) Watson of Bremen; his mother, Rowena Sassenicki of Akron, Ohio; four sisters, Peggy Mativi of Columbus, Ohio, Kimmy Watson of Atlanta, Ga., Mary Beth Hood of Cartersville, Ga., and Samantha Conors of Akron, Ohio; a brother, Gordon Watson of Garden City; three grandchildren, Heaven Lee Watson, Haven Shaye Watson and Hannah Lane Watson; his stepmother, Frances Watson of Birmingham; and his mother- and father-in-law, Betty and J.D. Stewart of Arkadelphia.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Monroe Crawford
Funeral services for Monroe Crawford, 63, of Hanceville will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1, 2002 at Mt. Grove Baptist Church, the Revs. Mark Long and Jimmy Scott officiating, with burial in Mt. Grove Cemetery in Hanceville. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.

Hanceville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Crawford died Wednesday, Oct. 30. He was born in Cullman on Nov. 4, 1938 to William and Marie Boatright Crawford.

He was preceded in death his by father; and two brothers, Clarence Crawford and Dee Crawford.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Cone Crawford; his mother; three sisters, Mildred Adamson of Cullman, Shirley Copeland and Roberta Starnes of Hanceville; four brothers, Jerry Crawford, Johnny Crawford, Red Crawford, Rickey Crawford all of Hanceville; a niece, Janet Crawford of Cullman; a great-nephew, Andrew Filyaw of Cullman; and a great-niece, Amanda Herbolich of Cullman.

Visitation was Thursday.

Ruthie Lee Taylor

Funeral services for Ruthie Lee Taylor, 80, of Cullman will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, 2002 at Williams-McCracken Chapel, the Revs. Frank McKenzie, Charles York and Leon Hawkins officiating, with burial in Good Hope Cemetery.

Williams-McCracken Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Taylor died Wednesday, Oct. 30 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. She was born Sept. 6, 1922 in Larry County, Texas to Marian Claude and Nora Jane Sexton Hawkins. She was a grader for the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Herman D. Taylor; three brothers, William Hawkins, Alvin Hawkins and Jewel Hawkins; and three sisters, Opal Shaw, Rachel Hatfield and Vera Teague.

Survivors include a son, Thomas (Judy) Taylor of Cullman; five brothers, Arthur Meldon Hawkins of Lookeba, Okla., Claudie Carl Hawkins of Cullman, Everett Earl Hawkins of Oklahoma City, Okla., Leon Clifford Hawkins of Duncan, Okla., and Frances Eldon Hawkins of Alamogordo, N.M.; two sisters, Ruby Elliott of Pryer, Okla. and Lucy Elliott of Oklahoma City, Okla.; three grandchildren, Lance Taylor, Karen West and Brian Taylor; and six great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today.
