Alabama, U.S., County Marriage Records, 1805-1967 - 1814-1935

Marion Donald Calvert
Platoon Sergeant, E-7, Marion Donald Calvert, age 64, of Hanceville died Oct. 31, 2002 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born May 4, 1938 to Jettie (Wilson) Calvert of Crane Hill and the late Leldon Calvert. Mr. Calvert is the husband of Elner McAnnally and is of the Baptist Faith.

He served in the U.S. Army 372nd Infantry, 1st Brigade, 101st Airborne Division, The Screaming Eagles. Sgt. Calvert earned several medals and commendations, including the Bronze Star with V device for heroism in connection with military operations against a hostile force at Trung Luong, Republic of Vietnam. On the third assault he received serious leg wounds, refusing evacuation Sgt. Calvert continued to direct the attack and fired at the enemy. After all other wounded were evacuated he provided intelligence information thus earning the Purple Heart and the Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with palm. He also served in Korea from 1972-73; was the Senior Vice Commander, Military Order of the Purple Heart; Finis J. Self Chapter No. 2212 over Cullman and Morgan Counties, and a member of VFW Post No. 2214.

Besides his wife and mother, he is survived by his adopted daughter, Romona (Ben) McGehee; two step-sons, Gary and Greg Rouse; a step-daughter, Shelia (Harold) Ball; two grandchildren, Kristy (Aaron) Souders and Michael Creel; and two sisters, Barbara (Fernal) Williams and Shelia Barbee.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, 2002 at Hanceville Funeral Home, the Rev. Tommy Graves and Cdr. George Mann officiating, with burial in Garden City Cemetery with full military honors. Pallbearers will be 101st Airborne Rangers.

The family will gather at the home of Faye Harper on Michelle Street in Hanceville.

Georgia Ann Harris

Funeral services for Georgia Ann Harris, 80, of Cullman will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 3, 2002 at Williams-McCracken Chapel, Andrew Chambers and Wendell Peterson officiating, with burial in Duck River Cemetery.

Williams-McCracken Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Harris died Thursday, Oct. 31 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. She was born Aug. 8, 1922 in Morgan County to Almond Edgar and Margaret Hughes Ryan. She was a production worker for Tyson Poultry Co.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother; John Quincy Ryan.

Survivors include her husband, Elige Henry Harris of Cullman; two sons, Loyd Winford (Deloa) Harris and Thomas Jerry Harris of Holly Pond; three daughters, Janette Alice (Ed) Holmes of Boaz, Lorean (Joe) Williams and Lorea (Charles) Chapman, both of Cullman; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today.

Gordon ‘Mural’ Jones

Funeral services for Gordon “Mural” Jones, 53, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 3, 2002 at Harvest Temple Pentecostal Church, Herman Elliott officiating, with burial in Ebenezer Cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Jones died Friday, Nov. 1 at his residence. He was born Dec. 7, 1948 in Cullman County. He was a heavy equipment operator and a member of Harvest Temple Pentecostal Church.

He was preceded in death by his father, Johnnie Clyde Jones; and his brother, Darrell Lee Jones.

Survivors include his wife, Janice Allred Jones of Cullman; his mother, Una Jones; two sons, Mel Jones of Cullman and Maylon Jones; three daughters, Renea (Randy) Gains, Tina Jones and Tammy Jones of Cullman; four brothers, Terry (Maria) Jones, Johnny W. (Wanda) Jones, Harold (Faye) Jones of Cullman, and Martin (Misti) Jones of Winston County; two sisters, Betty Quick of Hanceville and Lenita Bynum of Cullman; and three grandchildren, Tiffany Gains, Courtney Chumley and Eric Chumley.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Flora Turney Blankenship

Funeral services for Flora Turney Blankenship, 94, of Hartselle will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 3, 2002 at Moss Service Chapel, the Rev. Dudley Brock officiating, with burial in Mt. Zion Cemetery.

Moss Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Blankenship died Friday, Nov. 1 at Hartselle Medical Center. She was born Oct. 26, 1908. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include two sons, Walter Turney and Daniel Turney of Cullman; four daughters, Margie Waldrep, Dora Pope and Ruth Steele of Cullman, and Bell Gillot of Arab; 18 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be at 6 p.m. today.

Dorothy ‘Grandma Dee’ Predmore
Services for Dorothy Dean “Grandma Dee” Predmore, 90, of Cullman will be at 3 p.m. Monday, Nov. 4, 2002, at Moss Service Chapel, with burial in Glen Rest Cemetery in Reynoldsburg, Ohio, on Wednesday.

Moss Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

She died Nov. 1 at her daughter’s home in Cullman. She was born Jan. 24, 1912, in Columbus, Ohio. She married Norman Predmore in 1942 and lived in Columbus for 32 years. After her husband’s death she worked for 20 years at the Seal of Ohio Girl Scout Council, where she was also a member of the Clowning Unit. She retired to the Benedictine Manor in Cullman for eight years and had lived with her daughter in Cullman for three years.

She touched hundreds of children’s hearts as a volunteer at First United Methodist Church’s Sonshine Preschool for eight years. More recently she assisted at story times at Under the Storytelling Tree bookstore and helped with toddlers and preschoolers at Seventh Street Baptist Church.

She was a member of the Girl Scouts of America for almost 50 years and was also active in Christian Women’s Club and was a former member of the FUMC Wesley Fellowship Sunday School class. She was a member of Seventh Street Baptist Church and the Faith Sunday School class.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman L. Predmore; parents, Fred and Osa Henderson; and sisters Jane Headley and Helen Mourton.

She is survived by a daughter, Karen Lee (David) Amey of Cullman; a son, Dan (Ellen) Predmore of Signal Mountain, Tenn.; four grandchildren, Angie Amey of Cullman, Ted Amey of Madison, Amy Predmore of Virginia and Meredith Schweppe of Oregon; five great-grandchildren, Denzel, Reggie and Zoie Amey and Emma Cate and Claire Amey; and three nieces and their families.

Visitation begins at 9 a.m. Monday at Moss Service.

Neola C. Tucker

Services for Neola C. Tucker, 97, of Cullman will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 4, 2002, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Father Kevin McGrath officiating, with burial in Cullman City Cemetery. A Rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m. Sunday.

Moss Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

She died Nov. 2 at Tranquility Nursing Home in Marietta, Ga. She was born Sept. 11, 1905 in Chaurin, La., the daughter of George Albert and Cecelia Burcard Chaurin. She was a registered nurse.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dr. William Lee Tucker; and a daughter-in-law, Loretta M. Pellegrin Tucker.

Survivors include two sons, William L. Tucker Jr. of Cullman and Ramon A. Tucker of Houma, La.; a daughter, Jean C. Muster of Marietta, Ga.; a sister, Rhea Matherne; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today.

Ethelene Pope Robertson

Services for Ethelene Pope Robertson, 74, of Holly Pond will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 4, 2002, at Holly Pond Funeral Home Chapel, the Rev. Randy Burtram, the Rev. Kenneth Goggins and Brian Hawkins officiating, with burial in Holly Pond Cemetery,

She died Nov. 2 at her home. She was born Oct. 19, 1928 in Cullman County, the daughter of William and Emma Johnson Pope. She was a member of Pleasantview Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Tome Besidas and Leroy Pope; two sisters, Alice Haynes and Dorothy Segroves; and a grandson, Craig Wesley Robertson.

She is survived by her husband, Harm Wesley Robertson; two sons, Larry Wesley (Madelyn) Robertson and Danny Craig (Amy) Robertson; a daughter, Sharon (Douglas) Carroll; grandchildren Brian and Jami Carroll, Shannon and Beau Judkins, Jason and Brenda Robertson, Matthew Carroll, Abbigail Robertson; two great-grandchildren, Stephanie Judkins and Killian Carroll.

Ollis Wilson Bowen

Ollis Wilson Bowen, 70, of Cullman died Nov. 2, 2002, at his home. He was a retired laborer for US Gypsum in Birmingham.

He was born Aug. 21, 1931, to Oloiver D. and bessie Killian Bowen.

Survivors include a son, Barry Steven Bowen of Cullman; and a brother, Oliver Bowen of Cullman.

Hanceville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Odell ‘Granny’ Sterling

Services for Odell “Granny” Sterling, 85, of Blountsville will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 3, 2002, at Calvary Baptist Church near Blountsville, Jerry Hackney and Clatus NeSmith officiating, with burial in Rock Springs Cemetery near Blountsville.

Blountsville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

She died Nov. 1 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. She was a retired cook at Frosty Freeze and a member of Calvary Baptgist Church.

Mrs. Sterling was preceded in death by her husband, Grocer C. Sterling; and her parents, Cyrus C. and Etta Copeland Gober.

Survivors include a son, G.C. Sterling of Blountsville; two daughters, Bernice Stone and Janice Dover of Blountsville; two brothers, Ewell Gober and J.T. Gober, both of Blountsville; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Jerry Moody, Junior Moody, Larry Newman, Johnny Bullard, Randy Stephens, Scott Harris, Gerald Dunn and Wendell White.

Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. today.

Harold Lee Smith

Services for Harold Lee Smith, 87, of Anniston were held Friday, Nov. 1, 2002, at Gray Brown-Service Mortuary and Crematory Chapel in Anniston, the Rev. Findley Holbrook officiating.

Burial followed at Forestlawn Gardens.

He was a member of West Anniston Baptist Church and the John Adams Bible Class. He was retired after 33 years of service at Anniston Army Depot.

He was preceded in death by his son, Gordon Earl Smith.

Survivors include his wife, Edna Smith of Anniston; two daughters, Paula (Ray) Richards of Oneonta and Gloria Sixt of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio; a sister, Ruby Bellew of Tallapoosa, Ga.; a brother, Grady Smith of Jacksonville, Fla.; three grandchildren, Connie Richards, Randy Sixt and Ricky Sixt; and three great-grandchildren, Andrew Sixt, Alexander Sixt and Aaryn Sixt.

Pallbearers were Ray Richards, Edward Hand, Ray Oaks, Tommy Cantrell, Mark Smith and Harold Oaks.

Michael Augustine Gresik
Funeral services for Michael Augustine Gresik, 75, of Cullman will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2002 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Father Kevin McGrath officiating, with burial in the church cemetery.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Gresik died Sunday, Nov. 3 at Woodland Medical Center. He was born Sept. 25, 1927 in Chicago, Ill. to Dr. Hermann Konstantine and Elanor Zimmer Gresik. He was a retired nursing home administrator, a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and a veteran of the U.S. Army.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Michael Timothy Gresik; two brothers; and two sisters.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann Clark Gresik of Cullman; a son, James Anthony Gresik; three daughters, Melody (Larry) Quattlebaum, Martha (Edwin) Lawrence of Cullman and Andrea (Ron) Knoll of Georgia; a sister, Charlotte (Tony) Lindauer of Chicago; five grandchildren, Christopher and Chad Quattlebaum, Kourtney Cuellar and Kel and Kolby Lawrence; and two great-grandchildren, Kortlin and Caden Cuellar.

Visitation was Monday.
