Wayne Thomas Vincent

Funeral services for Wayne Thomas Vincent, 56, of Falkville will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 14, 2002 at Grace Baptist Church in Hartselle, Keith Whitley and Nathan Green officiating, with burial in Bethel Methodist Cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Vincent died Monday, Nov. 11 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born July 15, 1946 in Cullman County to William Redith and Veda Cornette Vincent. He was the owner of Vincent’s Furniture and a local businessman for 33 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, James Vincent and Ray Vincent.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Jo Breedlove of Falkville; two sons, Anthony (Becky) Vincent of Falkville and Jon (Angela) Vincent of Cullman; two daughters, Wendy (Tom) Braswell and Veda Vincent of Cullman; a brother, Max Vincent of Cullman; and nine grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Lowell Edward Bates Sr.

Funeral services for Lowell Edward Bates Sr., 62, of Gadsden were Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2002 at James Memorial Baptist Church, the Revs. Bill Abbott and Floyd Crowe officiating, with burial in Tates Chapel Cemetery.

Collier-Butler Funeral Home of Gadsden was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Bates died Saturday, Nov. 9 at Riverview Hospital. He was born March 9, 1940 in Cullman County to Herbert T. and Lula Gossett Bates. He was a native of Cullman and a resident of Dalton, Ga. for 21 years. He resided in Gadsden the past 16 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Robert Lee Bates; and a sister, Inez Bates Speigel.

Survivors include special friend, Audrey Kidd; two sons, Lowell Edward Bates Jr., Kevin Todd (Alanna) Bates; and one daughter, Mitzi Gaye Bates; five brothers, William Amos Bates, Herbert T. Bates, E. Leon Bates, Charles Floyd Bates, Rayburn Bates; three sisters, Sybil Bates Henderson, Dorothy Bates Morrow, Audrey Bates Sonneberg; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

John Wesley Parrish Jr.

Funeral services for John Wesley Parrish Jr., 77, of Birmingham will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2002 at Homewood Church of Christ, with burial in Elmwood Cemetery.

Johns-Ridout’s Elmwood Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Parrish died Monday, Nov. 11 after a long illness. He was born in Searcy, Ark. on Sept. 4, 1925. He spent his early years in Maben, Miss. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served in the Atlantic and Pacific theaters. He was awarded the Purple Heart for acts during the Normandy Invasion and later participated in the Iwo Jima invasion. In 1946 he moved to Birmingham. He began the John W. Parrish Structural Detailing Company in 1953, North Alabama Fabricating Company Inc. in 1967 and DEAMCO Cranes and Systems in 1989, which are now operated by his children. He was a member of Homewood Church of Christ. He was formerly a member of the board of directors for West Birmingham Christian School.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Margaret Smith Parrish of Forestdale; three daughters, Lucynda P. Smith of Forestdale, Wesley P. (Jack) Zeanah of Decatur and Kathy Parrish of Chelsea; a son, John Ralph (Lynn) Parrish of Vestavia Hills; eight grandchildren, Kristi Smith of Nashville, Tenn., Jason Smith of Forestdale, Kelley Smith of Auburn, Shannon Z. (Harold) Buchanan of Decatur, Kristen (Eileen) Zeanah of Auburn, Tiffany Parrish, John Owen Parrish, Melissa Parrish, all of Vestavia Hills; two great-grandchildren, Kristen Buchanan and Michael Buchanan of Decatur; four sisters, Lois Manning of Searcy Ark., Margaret Thompson of Maben, Miss., Frances Swilley of Brandon, Miss., and Polly Cole of Olive Branch, Miss.; and a brother, Gene Parrish of New Orleans, La.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Jefferson Christian Academy at 1500 Heritage Place Drive, Irondale, Ala. 35210.

Pallbearers will be Billy Aultman, Larry Foster, Wayne Fuller, Luke Hamric, Roy Jernigan, Syd Mayhew, C.A. Prater, James Townley, Stan Tumlin and Clyde White.

Honorary pallbearers will be all employees of John Parrish Structural Detailing Company and North Alabama Fabricating Company, Inc.

Visitation was Tuesday.

Dorothy V. Drinkard
Funeral services for Dorothy V. Drinkard, 83, of Falkville will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 15, 2002 at Moss Service Chapel, with burial in Holly Pond Cemetery.

Moss Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Drinkard died Tuesday, Nov. 12 at Sumerford Nursing Home. She was born Nov. 6, 1919 to John E. and Nina Knight Wood. She was a cosmetologist.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, George E. Drinkard.

Survivors include two sons, Allen Drinkard of Hartselle and Kenneth Drinkard of Eva; four brothers, Gordon Wood, Leonard Wood, Donald Wood and Gene Wood; a sister, Clovis Waris; four grandchildren, Mike Drinkard, Melissa Creel, Melissa Weaver, Kristie Smith; and three great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today.

Mary Leigeber

Funeral services for Mary Leigeber, 81, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 16, 2002 at Cullman Heritage Chapel, the Rev. Steve Rodgers officiating, with burial in Cullman City Cemetery.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Leigeber died Wednesday, Nov. 13 at Woodland Medical Center. She was born July 3, 1921 in Cullman County to Ben Wilson and Lula Mae Strong Strickland. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Herman R. Leigeber; a brother, Royce Strickland; and three sisters, Lavada Heflin, Geneva Allen and Lois Johnson.

Survivors include a brother, Wilson “Buddy” (Glenda) Strickland of Cullman; and three sisters, Bennie Mae Strickland of Cullman, Norma Chandler of Birmingham and Pauline Perkins of Florida.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Mary Anne Deupree

Funeral services for Mary Anne Deupree, 91, of Cullman will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 15, 2002 at Wesley Chapel UMC-Sylacauga, the Rev. David Lee officiating, with burial in Evergreen Cemetery.

Curtis and Son’s Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Deupree died Wednesday, Nov. 13 at her residence. She was born Feb. 4, 1911. She was a teacher.

Survivors include two sons, John Milton (Jeanette) Deupree Jr. of Lythia Springs, Ga. and Paul Alan (Myra) Deupree of Cullman; three grandchildren, Kristy Deupree Daniel, Denise Deupree Moore and Mandy Deupree Flynt; and two great-grandchildren, William Jared Flynt and Stephanie Hope Daniel.

Pallbearers will be Robert Tatum, Fred Pate, John Vogel, Jared Flynt, James Moore and Steve Daniel.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today.

Neil Forrester

Funeral services for Neil Forrester, 53, of Kinsey were Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2002 at Kent-Thornton Meadows Funeral Chapel, the Rev. Wallace M. Duke officiating, with burial in Center Baptist Cemetery in Webb.

Kent-Thornton Meadows Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Forrester died Sunday, Nov. 10 at Southeast Alabama Medical Center in Dothan. He was born Nov. 16, 1948 in Columbus, Ga., the son of Buford Lloyd and Annie Margaret Brock Forrester. He was a police officer for the city of Headland for 21 years and served 11 years as police chief of Headland. He was a member of Center Baptist Church in Webb.

He was preceded in death by his father; and a sister, Nina Joyce Craft.

Survivors include a son, Michael (Misty) Forrester of Slocomb; a daughter, Cristy Forrester of Dothan; his mother, Annie Margaret Watson of Columbus, Ga.; two sisters, Mary Milam of Columbus, Ga. and Linda Williams of Lexington, Ky.; and a brother-in-law, Walter Craft of Atlanta, Ga.

Pallbearers were Butch Glover, Joe Ingram, Donald Shipes, Robert Kelly, Franklin Swan and Scott Blankenship.

Ola Lee Harris
Funeral services for Ola Lee Harris, 87, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 16, 2002 at Williams-McCracken Chapel, with burial in Duck River Cemetery.

Williams-McCracken Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

She died Thursday, Nov. 14 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. She was born Feb. 6, 1915 in Cleborne County to Willie and Salley Henry Harris. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today.

Clara Rosaina Cobbs

Funeral services for Clara Rosaina Cobbs, 88, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 16, 2002 at Gum Pond Primitive Baptist Church, Guy Hunt officiating, with burial in the church cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Cobbs died Thursday, Nov. 14. She was born March 25, 1914 in Morgan County to Jonathan Pleasant and Savannah Ryan Cobbs. She was a retired clerk for Newman’s Cleaners and was a seamstress for Simcoe Cleaners.

She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, Elbert Cobbs, Willie Cobbs, Ester Cobbs, Earl Cobbs, and Talmadge Cobbs; four infant brothers; and five sisters, Erie Cobbs Hawkins, Cora Cobbs, Gathia Cobbs Ozbolt, Trudie Cobbs Howse and Arrena Cobbs Humphries.

Survivors include two brothers, Herbert Cobbs of Gum Pond and Dexter Cobbs of Snead.

Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Willie Henry Smith

Funeral services for Willie Henry Smith, 86, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 18, 2002 at In Man Field Church, Glen Woods officiating, with burial in the church cemetery.

Nichols Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Smith died Wednesday, Nov. 13 at Woodland Medical Center.

Survivors include three sisters, Deane White of Florida, Sally Eddy and Ruth Brown, both of Cullman; and a special brother-in-law, Carl Brown.

Paul Garland Henderson

Funeral services for Paul Garland Henderson, 81, of Remlap will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 15, 2002 at Lemley Chapel in Oneonta, David Holton officiating, with burial in Johnson’s Grove Cemetery.

Lemley Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Henderson died Wednesday, Nov. 13 at his residence. He was born in Alabama to Thomas Jefferson and Sara Ann Brasher Henderson. He was a retired mechanic, a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in World War II, and a member of the Church of Christ faith. Mr. Henderson resided in Remlap the last 25 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Ethel W. Henderson of Remlap; a son, Roger Henderson of Warrior; five daughters, Janice (Jerry) Neely of Locust Fork, Brenda (Jimmy Dale) Talley of Remlap, Sandra (Donnie) Marsh of Lillian, Ramona (Charles) Weldon of Oneonta, and Denise Griffin of Pinson; 13 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Dale Henderson, Rodney Henderson, Paul McCormack, Steven Talley, Jeff Marsh, Tommy Rawls, and Charles Weldon Jr.
