Brenda Butts

Funeral services for Brenda Butts, 41, of Holly Pond will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 13, 2002 at Holly Pond Funeral Chapel, the Revs. Henry Hobson and Jack Joiner officiating, with burial in Nixon’s Chapel Cemetery in Horton.

Holly Pond Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Butts died Wednesday, Dec. 11 at Hanceville Nursing Home. She was born Jan. 26, 1961 in Marshall County to Durward and Janice Doyle Butts.

She was preceded in death by her mother; two bothers, Jerry and Larry Butts; a sister, Linda Butts Akers; grandparents, Grady and Velma Doyle.

Survivors include her father, Durward Butts of Holly Pond; two aunts, Fay (Howard) Denney and Bonnie (Russell) McDonald, all of Holly Pond; a niece, Susan Barton; and two nephews, Tommy and Andrew Barton.

Visitation was Thursday.

Bill Tate

Graveside services for Bill Tate, 73, of Hoover will be at 1 p.m. Dec. 14, 2002 at Union Grove Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Hughlen Murphree officiating.

Holly Pond Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Tate died Wednesday, Dec. 11 after a battle with cancer. He was born and educated in Texas A&M with a bachelor degree in mechanical engineering. He served in the United States Navy before moving into the Aerospace and Missle Defense Industry. His employment by corporations like Aeronca, Hugh’s Aircraft and Atlantic Research Corp. allowed him to become instrumental in projects like the Convair Wing Design, development of air to air refueling systems and the subsequent anti-icing and de-icing testing of these systems on Mt. Washington, N.H. He was responsible for the preliminary design and development of the digital, remote controlled, automated three dimensional machining system as well as the electron beam welding machine.

His career took him from Mt. Washington, N.H. to White Sands to Huntsville directing such projects as the structural redesign of the Lockheed C-130, Boeing B-47, and Boeing B-52 all stawarts of our military air forces. While in Huntsville, Mr. Tate was responsible for the launch instructions for Jupiter, Mercury and Saturn launch vehicles, as well as the attitude and re-entry control systems for the Jupiter and Saturn projects.

In the late 60s he spent the last 30+ years designing and building self-supporting fiberglass enclosures for the pulp washing process of the paper industry. His washer hood designs are considered “the best available control technology” for compliance with the EPA cluster rules.

Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Frances White Tate; two daughters, Beverly Tate Flournoy of Hoover and Kimberly Tate of Charleston, S.C.; and three grandchildren, Amy and Stacy Flournoy and Aaron Smith.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Brookwood Hospice.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m.

Kindrel V. Grimmett

Funeral services for Kindrel V. Grimmett, 82, of Cullman will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, 2002 at New Prospect Baptist Church, the Rev. Richard Bailey officiating, with burial in the church cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.

Hanceville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Grimmett died Wednesday, Dec. 11 in Cullman. He was born in Cullman on July 25, 1920 to Luther and Mattie Powell Grimmett.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and four siblings, Eula Hutchinson, Herbert Grimmett, Earl Grimmett, and Verland Grimmett.

Survivors include his wife, Lena C. Grimmett of Cullman; three daughters, Karen (Jackie) Bagby of Fultondale, Shirley Callough and Nancy Webb of Tarrent; a sister, Trilbia Creekmore of Cullman; a brother, Lendon Grimmett of Cullman; six granddaughters, Kim, Toni, Billie, Deborah, Jennifer, and Katie; one great-granddaughter, Kayla; a niece, Mary Sadler; and a great-niece, Cheryl Eskew.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to New Prospect Baptist Church music program fund.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Wade Harris

Funeral services for Wade Harris, 37, of Hanceville will be at noon Saturday, Dec. 14, 2002 at Hanceville Funeral Home, Steve Britt officiating, with burial in Gwen’s Cove Cemetery.

Hanceville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Harris died Wednesday, Dec. 11 at Huntsville Hospital in an automobile accident. He was born Aug. 1, 1965 in Birmingham. He was a laborer.

He was preceded in death by his father, James Edward Smith.

Survivors include his wife, Angela Harris of Hanceville; his mother, Loretta Dill of Cullman; a son, Caleb Harris; two daughters, Melissa Harris and Stacy Harris, all of Hanceville; a sister, Suzie Woodard of Hayden; and grandparents, Doris Smith and Huss Smith, both of Jemison.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Walter W. House

Funeral services for Walter W. House, 93, of Rainbow City, formerly of Cullman, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, 2002 at Collier-Butler Chapel, the Rev. C.C. McCain, and Drs. Richard Trader and Nelson Kuykendall officiating, with burial in Holly Pond Cemetery.

Collier-Butler Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. House died Wednesday, Dec. 11. He was a member of Twelfth Street Baptist Church and was a former resident of Anniston. He was a veteran of World War II and served three insurance companies as vice president and as a member of Board of Directors. He also served as state president and vice president of the Alabama State Baptist Brotherhood.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Delba House; and son-in-law, Dr. Bruce McIver.

Survivors include two daughters, Lawanna McIver of Dallas, Texas and Susie (Mike) Holloway of Southside; four grandchildren, Meg Wilson of Gulf Shores, Shannon Allen of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, Renie McCarthy of Allentown, Pa., and Kate McIver of Green sboro, N.C.; five great-grandchildren; and his brother, Reedie House of Macon, Ga.

Pallbearers will be Bill Hale, Lewis Elliott, Shilton Gilliland, Carl Braun, Bobby Cooper, and Lee Cox.

Honorary pallbearers will be W.B. Holloway, Elden Weiskopf and Jim Hickey.

Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Frances Sue Nuss
Funeral services for Frances Sue Nuss, 74, of Hanceville will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 15, 2002, at Hanceville Funeral Home chapel, David McGowin officiating, with burial in Hopewell Cemetery.

Hanceville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Nuss died Thursday, Dec., 12 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. She was born in Cullman County on April 24, 1928 to K.L. and Nettie White. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her husband, W.L. Nuss of Hanceville; two daughters, Kathy (Mike) Bentley of Hartselle and Wendy (Chris) McLemore of Trinity; a sister, Geneva Longshore; two brothers, Lester White and Maurice White; and two grandchildren, Mary Katheryn McLemore and Noah McLemore.

Visitation will be today from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Mozelle Walker

Funeral services for Mozelle Walker, 88, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 15, 2002 at Cullman Heritage Chapel, Bill Burkett and Victor Doss officiating, with burial in Hopewell Cemetery.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Walker died Friday, Dec. 13 at Baptist Medical Center in Princeton. She was born Aug. 12, 1914 in Cullman to Samuel and Venus Duke Brown. She was a retired licensed practical nurse for Cullman Hospital. She was a very active member of Seventh Street Church which included being a Sunday School teacher, a choir member, and a member of WMU.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Herman Walker; and four brothers, Edwin Brown, Franklin Brown, Van Brown and Kenneth Brown.

Survivors include a son, Wayne B. (Joan) Walker of Cullman; a brother, Escal Brown of Florida; three sisters, Estelle Camp of Birmingham, Ranelle Denson of Cullman and Ramona Horn of Arizona; three grandchildren, David (Kristy) Walker of Cullman, Stephanie (Tracy) Cain of Athens and Cynthia (Victor) Doss of Georgia; six great-grandchildren; and 14 nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Karen Sue Barfield

Funeral services for Karen Sue Barfield, 33, of Hanceville will be at 1 .m. Sunday, Dec. 15, 2002 at Moss Service Chapel, the Rev. Robert Crawford officiating, with burial in Center Hill Baptist Cemetery.

Moss Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Barfield died Thursday, Dec. 12 at her residence. She was born March 10, 1969. She was a restaurant manager.

Survivors include her husband, Jerry Barfield of Hanceville; a son, Jerry Brian Barfield of Hanceville; two daughters, Autumn Barfield and Heather Barfield, both of Hanceville; her mother, Freda Honeycutt of Good Hope; a brother, Keith Honeycutt of Montevallo; and a sister, Melinda Barfield of Good Hope.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today.

Hoyt Irvin Chance

Funeral services for Hoyt Irvin Chance, 84, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 15, 2002 at Williams-McCracken Chapel, Doyle Bullard and Jerry Fleming officiating, with burial in Simcoe Methodist Cemetery.

Williams-McCracken Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Chance died Thursday, Dec. 12 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born in Cullman on Feb. 27, 1918 to William B. and Sarah Tucker Chance. He was a civil service wroker employed at Redstone Arsenal and a veteran of the U.S. Army.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Allen Chance, Harbey Chance and Carl Chance; and a sister, Tressie Golden.

Survivors include his wife, Jo Whitt Chance of Cullman; a son, Donnie Chance of Cullman; two grandchildren, Chase Chance and Chatham Chance; and a sister, Edna Lambert.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today.

Tressie Rhodes Stricklin

Funeral services for Tressie Rhodes Stricklin, 82, of Gardendale will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 15, 2002 at Gardendale Chapel, the Rev. Alan Davis officiating, with burial in Oakwood Cemetery.

Gardendale Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Stricklin died Friday, Dec. 13. She was a 30-year employee of Carraway Hospital and attended East Gardendale Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Flavel Alfred Stricklin.

Survivors include a son, Foy (Karene) Stricklin of Gardendale; a daughter, Doneva “Donnie” (Johnny) Jackson of Cullman; four grandchildren, Neisa Gray, Neva Smith, Jake Jackson and Jeremy Jackson; two great-grandchildren, Hannah and Brianna Gray; and a brother, Robert W. (Gracie) Rhodes of Tarrant.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today.
