Rev. James Millard Miller
Funeral services for the Rev. James Millard Miller, 81, of Cullman will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2003 at Williams-McCracken Chapel, the Rev. Tommy Graves officiating, with burial in Good Hope Cemetery.

Williams-McCracken Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

The Rev. Miller died Sunday, Jan. 26 at Woodland Medical Center. He was born July 8, 1921 in Cullman to Lewis Phillip and Rossie Delilah Millis Miller. He was a retired minister and a veteran of the U. S. Air Force.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Clara Faye Miller; a sister, Pauline Hollis; and three brothers, Lewis Miller, William Basil Miller and the Rev. John Gordon Miller.

Survivors include two sons, Larry Miller of Huntsville and Phillip Miller of Cullman; a daughter, Sandra Leonard of Cullman; three sisters, Magdelene Briscoe and Adelene Miller, both of Cullman, and Ludean Proctor of Birmingham; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today.

Edna Etzig Welch

Funeral services for Edna Etzig Welch, 80, of Hanceville will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2003 at Williams-McCracken Chapel, Charles Sanford officiating, with burial in Hopewell Cemetery.

Williams-McCracken Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Welch died Thursday, Jan. 23 at her residence. She was born Dec. 25, 1922, in Ohio to Matthew and Elizabeth Clark Etzig. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Dr. Elbert Welch.

Survivors include five daughters, Annette Ivie of Austin, Texas, Yvonne Sanford of Hartselle, Sylvia Katrina Welch of Seattle, Wash., Pati Jochum of Hanceville and Barbara Johns of Hanceville; a sister-in-law, Zella Robarts of Jacksonville, Fla.; nine grandchilden; and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation was Monday.

Nadie Ray

Funeral services for Nadie Ray, 83, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2003 at Flint Creek Baptist Church, Damon Olson and Troy Puckett officiating, with burial in the church cemetery.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Ray died Saturday, Jan. 25 at her residence. She was born in Heard County, Ga. on Oct. 3, 1919 to Thomas Kaylor and Hattie Heard Yancey. She was a farmer and homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jack Wilford Ray; four brothers, Earl Yancy, Belton Yancy, Ivan Yancy, and Dolan Yancy; and a sister, Novis Moore.

Survivors include a son, Gary (Maxine) Ray of Cullman; a daughter, Regina (Edward) Green, Cullman; a brother, Karie Yancy of Fairview; a brother-in-law, Dalford Tucker; two sisters, Evelyn Pruett of Pisgah and Marie Tucker of Cullman; three sisters-in-law, Elsie Yancy, Wynell Lee and Melba Kane; two grandchildren, Christi (Matthew) Rutherford and Justin Ray; and a great-grandchild, Andrew Rutherford.

Visitation was Monday.

Betty Jane Gaw

Funeral services for Betty Jane Gaw, 64, of Cullman will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2003 at Cullman Heritage Chapel, Andrew Ball officiating, with burial in Cullman City Cemetery.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Gaw died Monday, Jan. 27 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. She was born Nov. 4, 1938 in Oconee County, Ga. to Fletcher and Louise Hancock House. She was an ad artist for Cook Publications and a member of Spirit Life Church of God.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her husband, H. Anthony Gaw of Kentucky; a son, Rodney (Jan) Gaw of Cullman; a daughter, April (Nate) Harvell of Cullman; a brother, Rickey House of Georgia; and two grandsons, Nathan Harvell and Samuel Gaw.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

James Kenneth Elam

Funeral services for James Kenneth Elam, 54, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2003 at Cullman Heritage Chapel, Tim Aris officiating, with burial in Bethlehem West Cemetery.

Cullman-Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Elam died Monday, Jan. 27 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born April 22, 1948 in Cullman County.

He was preceded in death by his father, Verell Elam.

Survivors include his mother, Elease Leathers Elam of Cullman; two sons, Keith (Kelly) Elam and Kevin (Lori) Elam of Cullman; two brothers, Bobby Lake and Jerry Lake of Cullman; a sister, Dianne Crumbley of Cullman; and five grandchildren, Katie Elam, Kalen Elam, Karra Elam, Kendall Elam, and Kyle Elam, all of Cullman.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

James Otis Payne

Funeral services for James Otis Payne, 83, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2003 at Welti Cumberland Presbyterian Church, the Revs. Ray Latham and Grady Patterson officiating, with burial in the church cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.

Moss Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Payne died Monday, Jan. 27 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born Oct. 29, 1919 to James Oscar and Parish Viola Henry Payne. He was farmer.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Daisy Lou Payne; a brother, Ray Payne; and two sisters, Audrey Quick and Alene Camp.

Survivors include two daughters, Polly (Donnie) Ford of Cullman and Carolyn (Eric) Tanner of Danville; a brother, Milton “Skeets” Payne of Detroit; a sister, Shorty Yeager of Cullman; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today.

Thomas Lamar Andrews

Funeral services for Thomas Lamar Andrews, 66, of Melbourne, Fla. will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2003 at Roselawn Chapel, the Rev. Craig Carlisle officiating, with burial in Etha Cemetery.

Roselawn Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Andrews died Thursday, Jan. 23 at W. Vesthoff Medical Center in Rockledge, Brevard, Fla. He was born Aug. 7, 1936 in Eva to Thomas Herbert and Mary Ethel Williams Andrews. He was retired from NASA. He was a business manager for United Space Alliance at Kennedy Space Center for Solid Rocket Booster, member of First Baptist Church in Merritt Island, Fla. He was a Shriner, a Jaycee member and was president of the Racking Horse Association.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Ozell Duskin Andrews of Melbourne, Fla.; a son, Larry Andrews of Eva; two daughters, Sharon Eubanks of Decatur and Carol Andrews of Viera, Fla.; five sisters, Lugene Brown of Decatur, Evelyn Turney and Irene Williams of Cullman, Elizabeth Thompson of Bremen, and Marie Hood of Chicago; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Jimmy Smith, Frank Bynum, Steve Stovall, Joe Richardson, Earl Marshall, and William Gray.

Visitation was Monday.

Mary Lou Haskins

Funeral services for Mary Lou Haskins, 67, of Bristol, Tenn., will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2003 at First Presbyterian Church, Dr. Gordon Turnbull officiating.

Oakley-Cook Funeral Home of Bristol, Tenn. is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Haskins died Saturday, Jan. 25, 2003 at her residence. She was born in Johnson City, Tenn., to William and Helen Davis Good and lived most of her life in Bristol. She was a graduate of Bristol Virginia High School and attended King College. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her husband, Gene Haskins; a daughter, Amy (Kevin) Johnson of Cullman; four sons, Gary (Terri) Haskins, Kerry (Kim) Haskins, all of Tampa, Fla., Jeff (Melissa) Haskins of Cullman, and Chris (Sonya) Haskins of Jonesborough, Tenn.; a sister, Linda Vinson of Bristol; her mother-in-law, Edna Haskins of Bristol; 11 grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to First Presbyterian Church, 701 Florida Ave., Bristol, Tenn. 37620, or to the Bristol Cancer Association, 1255 State St., Suite A, Bristol, Va. 24201. Condolences and memories may be sent via e-mail to condolences@oakley-cook.com.

Honorary pallbearers will be Johnny Dillow, Jim Donahue, Jack Snider, Harry Scanlan, Dusty Dodd, Josh Haskins, and Jason Haskins.

Visitation will be from 1:30 to 2:45 p.m. today prior to the service at the church.

Carolyn Sue Moses
Funeral services for Carolyn Sue Moses, 49, of Vinemont will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 30, 2003 at Willams-McCracken Chapel, Jerry Fleming officiating, with burial in Friendship Methodist Cemetery in Battleground.

Williams-McCracken Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

She died Jan. 28 at her residence. She was born June 20, 1953 in Cullman, the daughter of V.J. and Ola Mae Sellers Shockley. She was a nurse.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include two sons, Charles (Vicki) Dean and James (Jerri) Dean, all of Vinemont; two brothers, Danny (Nancy) Shockley and Dennis (Kathy) Shockley, all of Vinemont; two sisters, Mattie Banks of Jasper and Lisa Pope of Falkville; four grandchildren, Lee Dean, Jacob Dean, Shelby Dean and Trinity Dean; and aunt and uncle, Virginia and L.C. Payton of Clanton.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today.

James Bullard

Graveside services for James Bullard, 83, of Cullman will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2003 at Cullman Memory Gardens, Dr. Edwin Hayes officiating.

Williams-McCracken Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Bullard died Monday, Jan. 27 at Woodland Village Health Care. He was born in Hollywood, Alabama on June 21, 1919 to Elbert Lenzie and Bernice Isabell Davis Bullard. He was a baker for the Wonder Bakery.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dorothy Bullard; and a son, Jimmy Bullard.

Survivors include two sons, Gary (Jean) Bullard of Gardendale and Larry Bullard of Texas; a daughter, Wanda (Kenny) Gilbert of London, Ky.; a sister-in-law, Barbara Manning of Cullman; a nephew, John (Melinda) Evans of Vinemont; and three nieces, Sherry (Donald) Busby, Karen (Roger) Barnard and Jaime (Ken) Moore, all of Cullman.

Visitation was Tuesday.
