Alta Lee Hardin

Memorial services for Alta Lee Hardin, 82, of Vinemont will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 1, 2003 at Souls Harbor Freewill Baptist Church, Kenneth Terry officiating.

Moss Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Hardin died Tuesday, Jan. 28 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. She was born Nov. 30, 1920 in West Virginia to Roy and Effie Skanes. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her husband, Edward M. Hardin of Vinemont; a sister, Lillian Chambers of Huntington, W. Va.; and a brother, Mines Skanes of Dothan.

Betty Wydell Burnett
Funeral services for Betty Wydell Burnett, 78, of Hanceville, will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 31, 2003 at Hanceville Funeral Home Chapel, Fred Rivers officiating, with burial in Graceland Cemetery in Decatur, Ill.

Hanceville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Burnett died Thursday, Jan. 30, at Hanceville Nursing Home. She was born May 13, 1924 at St. Johns, Ill. to Lavern Roy and Olive Matilda Wilson. She was a bookkeeper.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Roy C. Burnett.

Survivors include her son, Tim (Vicky) Burnett of Ft. Collins; her daughter, Cheryl (Chuck) Sileven of Cullman; her sister, Sharon Becker of Inverness, Ill.; a sister-in-law, Eva (Earl) Johnson of Orlando, Fla.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Visitation is 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Rev. William Clifton ‘Bill’ Roberts

Funeral services for Rev. William Clifton “Bill” Roberts, 78, of Holly Pond will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 31, 2003 at Mt. Olive Methodist Church, Charles Dixon, Vernon Willis, Harold Widner and Wayne Jetton officiating, with burial in the church cemetery.

Williams-McCracken Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Rev. Roberts died Tuesday, Jan. 28 at Woodland Medical Center. He was born Dec. 26, 1924 at Ball Play, Ala., to Louie and Maggie Whisenant Roberts. He was a minister and a farmer.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Marie Huffman Roberts.

Survivors include two sons, David Roberts of Arab and Don Roberts of Holly Pond; a daughter, Diane Gober of Cullman; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Visitation was Thursday.

Herbert Pitts

Funeral services for Herbert Pitts, 74, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 31, 2003 at Cullman Heritage Chapel, Clenon Shedd officiating, with burial in Lystra Baptist Church Cemetery.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Pitts died Wednesday, Jan. 29 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born Nov. 25, 1928 in Cullman County to Rob and Gracie Pitts. He was a retired roofer for Willoughby Roofing.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Ricky Pitts; and two brothers, Jesse Pitts and Theo Pitts.

Survivors include his wife, Velma Stapler Pitts of Cullman; five sons, Carlton (Vicky) Pitts of Morgan County, Daniel (Barbara) Pitts, Hubert (Helen) Pitts, Robert (Verna) Pitts, and Jeff (Becky) Pitts of Cullman; a daughter, Darlene (Randy) Pate of Madison; a daughter-in-law, Nancy Stover Pitts; 13 grandchildren, Heath, Brent, Jeremy, Laura, Leslie, Adam, Brandy, Josh, Tracy, Kelly, Yolanda, Chris and Jason; and five great-grandchildren, Austin, Jonathan, Kendra, Emily and Shannon.

Visitation was Thursday.

Peggy Joyce Holmes

Funeral services for Peggy Joyce Holmes, 73, of Baileyton will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 1, 2003 at Gum Pond Primitive Baptist Church, Guy Hunt and Terry Blankenship officiating, with burial in Bethel Cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Holmes died Thursday, Jan. 30 at her residence. She was born April 22, 1929 in Morgan County to Alvin O. and Lillie Mardis Millwood. She was in farming and was a member of Gum Pond Primitive Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her son, Randy Holmes.

Survivors include her husband, Broncoe L. “Coley” Holmes of Baileyton; two daughters, Sherlene (Norman) Wright of Baileyton and Ethel (Steve) Turney of Falkville; a brother, Alvin Boyd Millwood of Tennessee; two sisters, Wilda (Arvid) Holmes and Ruth (Oliver) Williams, both of Baileyton; five grandchildren, Hal (Melissa) Wright, Rodney (Pearlie) Holmes, April (Scott) Fortner, Sandra Turney, and Justin Turney; and six great-grandchildren, Ashley Wright, Kody Wright, Ariel Wright, Savanah Fortner, Gabriel Fortner and Bailey Holmes.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

James Leon Parker

Funeral services for James Leon Parker, 56, of Vinemont will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 31, 2003 at Nichols Chapel in Addison, Manuel Stricklin and Glen Young officiating, with burial in Sardis Baptist Church Cemetery.

Nichols Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Parker died Tuesday, Jan. 28 at Cullman Regional Medical Center.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia Parker of Sardis; two daughters, Michelle Garcia of Sardis and Da’Lita K. Teague of Baldwin; three brothers, O’Neal Parker of Falkville, Rufus Parker of Tennessee and Bill Joe Rigby of Arizona; five sisters, Clara Smith of Addison, Sharon Hamilton of West Point, Joyce Gaskill of Cullman, Lavada Hanson of Chicago, Ill., and Elizabeth Murphy of Anniston; and four grandchildren.

Olvin Graves
Funeral services for Olvin Graves, 75, of Cold Springs will be at 2 p.m Sunday, Feb. 2, 2003 at Cold Springs Baptist Church, the Revs. Marvin Clemmons and Junior Garmon officiating, with burial in Cold Springs Cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.

Hanceville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Graves died Thursday, Jan. 30 in Scottsboro. He was born on July 17, 1927 in Cullman to Gurtis and Montez Smith Graves.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include two sons, Joey Graves of Bremen and Michael Graves of Dothan; three brothers, Earl Graves of Chesterton, Ind., Ellis Graves of Arab and Euell Graves of Kalamazoo, Mich.; five grandchildren, Chris Graves, Jason Graves, April Watkins, Shannon White, and Kaci Williams; and eight great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 today at the funeral home.

Rev. William Clifton ‘Bill’ Roberts

Funeral services for Rev. William Clifton “Bill” Roberts, 78, of Holly Pond were Friday, Jan. 31, 2003 at Mt. Olive Methodist Church, Charles Dixon, Vernon Willis, Harold Widner and Wayne Jetton officiating, with burial in the church cemetery. The body lay in state one hour prior to the service.

Survivors include two sons, David Roberts of Arab and Don Roberts of Holly Pond; a daughter, Diane Gober of Cullman; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Visitation was Thursday.

James Dennis Massey

Funeral services for James Dennis Massey, 43, of Holly Pond will be at 1 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 2, 2003 at Williams-McCracken Chapel, Danny Vinson officiating, with burial in Union Hill Cemetery.

Williams-McCracken Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Massey died Thursday, Jan. 30 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born Nov. 20, 1959 in Athens to Patrick Roy and Shelida Bowen Massey. He was a construction worker and U.S. Navy veteran.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Tami Sims Massey; a son, Chase Massey; a daughter, Jonna Massey; a stepson, John Kolodzie; a stepdaughter, Ashley Kolodzie, all of Holly Pond; four brothers, Dewayne Massey, Allen Massey, Glenn Massey, all of Cullman, and Phillip Massey of Athens; and a sister, Joyce Davis of Cullman.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today.

Jessie Marshall Pannell

Funeral services for Jessie Marshall Pannell, 78, of Vinemont will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 2, 2003 at Cullman Heritage Chapel, Jerry Fleming and Emmett Haynes officiating, with burial in Mt. Zion Cemetery.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Pannell died Thursday, Jan. 30 at Cullman Long Term Care. She was born April 13, 1924 in Morgan County to Joe “Guiseppe Mastroiani” and Jennie Johnson Marshall. She was a member of Vinemont Church of Christ for 62 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Cordis Alfred Pannell; a brother, Billy Joe Marshall; and two sisters, Cornie Haynes and Cora Lee Evans.

Survivors include two daughters, Gail (Douglas) Hill and Judy (Rev. Billy) Moon of Vinemont; two sisters, Hazel (Paul) Shoemaker of Holly Pond and Olphelia (Reuhl) Brannon of Cullman; a sister-in-law, Itra Marshall of Vinemont; four grandchildren, Tracie Mooney, Stefanie McAlpine, Brandon Hill and Josh Moon; five great-grandchildren, Justin Yarbrough, Colton Yarbrough, Savannah McAlpine, Ethan McAlpine, and Blain Mooney; and friends at Cullman Long Term Care.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Dwight Leon Scott

Funeral services for Dwight Leon Scott, 77, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 1, 2003 at Holly Pond Chapel, the Revs. Doug Scott, Tom Hall and Tom Robinson officiating, with burial in Holly Pond Cemetery.

Holly Pond Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Scott died Thursday, Jan. 30 at UAB Medical Center. He was born Oct. 22, 1925 in Cullman to Leon and Edith Weeks Scott. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served during World War II and was a deacon in the Baptist Church since 1967. He also served as director of People’s Bank of North Alabama from 1977 to 2002.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Wilma Dean Cleveland.

Survivors include his wife, Louise Gorham Scott; two sons, Douglas (Joyce) Scott of Holly Pond and Allan Scott of Cullman; four sisters, Panalee Cooper, Pauline Bridges, Betty Jean Hinkle, and Hilda Curvin; three grandchildren, Brandon (Karen) Scott, Cindy (Chuck) Partain and Shane Scott; and four great-grandchildren, Montgomery and Alexis Miller and Caleb and Colton Partain.
