Dimple Emogene Whalen

Funeral services for Dimple Emogene Whalen, 82, of Arab will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Feb. 11, 2003 at Arab-Heritage Chapel, the Rev. Ben Styles officiating, with burial in Arab Memorial Cemetery.

Arab-Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Whalen died Saturday, Feb. 8 at her residence. She was born Jan. 7, 1921 in Cullman County to John Augustus and Lucy Mae Halbrooks Thomas. She was a retired beautician and a member of the Baptist faith.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her husband, Robert Whalen of Arab; two sons, Billy Ray Downs of Atlanta, Ga. and John Dee Downs of Villa Rica, Ga.; a daughter, Ruthie Shields of Arab; a sister, Ruth Simpson of Union Hill; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Visitation was Monday.

Calvin Henry Vaughn

Funeral services for Calvin Henry Vaughn, 94, of Addison were Monday, Feb. 10, 2003 at Sardis No. 2 Baptist Church, Ralph Andrews and the Revs. Vernon Willis and Glenn McCain officiating, with burial in the church cemetery.

Nichols Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Vaughn died Saturday, Feb. 8 at his residence.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Willie Lou Emma Vaughn.

Survivors include two sons, Delton Vaughn and Danny Vaughn of Addison; three daughters, Jeanette Williams and Lucille Dunnie of Pleasant Grove and Karen Rutherford of Danville; a sister, Lorene Andrews of Addison; 12 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Doris McKenzie
Funeral services for Doris McKenzie, 70, of Cullman will be at 3 p.m. Friday, Feb. 14, 2003 at Moss Service Chapel, the Rev. Frank McKenzie officiating, with burial in Cullman City Cemetery.

Moss Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. McKenzie died Wednesday, Feb. 12 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. She was born Dec. 14, 1932 to Columbus and Eunice Vera Swafford Stevens. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Jack Stevens.

Survivors include her husband, Mike McKenzie of Cullman; four sons, Mike (Janet) McKenzie Jr. of Birmingham, Billy (Sheila) McKenzie of Falkville, Tony McKenzie and David (Michele) McKenzie, both of Cullman; two daughters, Bonnie (Kerry) Goodwin of Hayden and Shelia (Greg) Federer of Cullman; a brother, Robert Stevens of Florida; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation was Thursday.

Bertha Plunkett Mullins

Graveside services for Bertha Plunkett Mulllins, 93, of Birmingham will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 14, 2003 at Hopewell Cemetery, the Rev. Wallace of First United Methodist Church-Birmingham officiating.

Hanceville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Mullins died Monday, Feb. 10. She was born in Blount County on Oct. 25, 1909 to James William and Effie Price Ratliff. She was a dental assistant.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Edward Ratliff; her first husband, Norman Plunkett; and her second husband, James Mullins.

Survivors include a son, James Plunkett of Birmingham; two sisters, Pernie Lloyd and Evelyn Monteith of Birmingham; four brothers, Carl Ratliff of Tennessee, Harold Ratliff of Birmingham, Ray Ratliff of Georgia and Robert Ratliff of Michigan; two granddaughters, Dana Thompson and Dawn Warren, both of Birmingham; and a great-grandson, Justin Strange.

Kenneth Lee New

Funeral services for Kenneth Lee New, 63, of Hanceville will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 14, 2003 at Mt. Grove Baptist Church, the Revs. Robert Jones and James Brock officiating, with burial in Mt. Grove Cemetery.

Hanceville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. New died Wednesday, Feb. 12 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born Sept. 9, 1939 in Winston County to Henry and Vera Wilkins New. He was a heating and air conditioning serviceman.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Thelene New of Hanceville; two daughters, Denise Stinson of Eva and Gilda Watson of Blountsville; a sister, Shelia Bowers of Trimble; three brothers, Edward New of Crane Hill, Douglas Queen of Moulton and Larry Queen of Hanceville; and four grandchildren, Sherry Cason, Ronald Holloway, Trent Stinson, and Dakota Watson.

Visitation was Thursday.

Edward R. Lenz Jr.

Funeral services for Edward R. Lenz Jr., 71, of Holly Pond will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, 2003 at Holly Pond Chapel, Horace Hall officiating, with burial in Holly Pond Cemetery.

Holly Pond Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Lenz died Thursday, Feb. 13 at Woodland Medical Center. He was born in Detroit, Mich. on Feb. 21, 1932. He was retired from the U.S. Army and the Alabama State Employment Agency. He was a member of Holly Pond First Baptist Church and the Masonic Lodge. He also served in Korea and Vietnam, earning two Korean Service medals, one with three bronze stars; the Army Commendation Medal; the United Nations medal; Army of Occupation (Japan) National Defense Medal with oak leaf cluster; Army Commendation with Oak Leaf Cluster; Presidential Unite Emblem; five good conduct medals and an expert badge (carbine).

He was preceded in death by his father, Edward Lenz Sr.; and his siblings.

Survivors include his wife, Glenell Gorham Lenz of Holly Pond; nine nieces; and four nephews.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today.

Bessie Idell Wright

Funeral services for Bessie Idell Wright, 81, of Carbon Hill were Monday, Feb. 10, 2003 at Carbon Hill Church of God, the Revs. Robert Coates and Phillip Noles officiating, with burial in Carbon Hill Memorial Gardens. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.

Collins-Burke Funeral Home of Jasper was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Wright died Saturday, Feb. 8 at her residence.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lucious Naramore; two brothers, William D. Naramore and Garland Naramore; and one sister, Margaret Kirkland.

Survivors include her husband, R.D. Wright Jr. of Carbon Hill; two sons, Alfred M. (Sue) Wright of Carbon Hill and Earnest (Glenda) Wright of Cullman; two sisters, Gladys Townley of Carbon Hill and Christine Kennedy of Orange Beach; four grandchildren, Shanna Wright, Terri Whitsitt, Christopher Wright, and Leslie (Daniel) Hyatt; and three great-grandchildren, Jenni Manies, Lyndsi Whitsitt, and Kody Whitsitt.

Kenneth Tackabury Marvin

Graveside services for Kenneth Tackabury Marvin, 84, of Galveston, Texas will be at 1 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 16, 2003 at Fairview West Cemetery in Hanceville, Dr. Marvin Bryan officiating.

Carnes Brothers Funeral Home of Galveston is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Marvin died Friday, Feb. 7 at Memorial City Hospital in Houston, Texas. He was a retired chemist from National Marine Fisheries, where he worked for more than 50 years and was a graduate of Georgia Tech University.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Rachel McNiese Marvin, who died on Sept. 24, 1996.

Survivors include a foster son, Lamson Nguyen; a sister, Madeline Barret of New York; a sister-in-law, Catherine Hasenbein of Cullman; and the Nguyen family, Chau, Kim, Ramon, Rachel, Ken and Kendra.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Bertha Louise Crick
Funeral services for Bertha Louise Crick, 89, of Virgina Beach, Va., formerly of Cullman, will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, 2003 at Williams-McCracken Chapel, Dr. Bill McWeeney officiating, with burial in Cullman City Cemetery.

Williams-McCracken Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Crick died Tuesday, Feb. 11. She was born in Bowling Green, Ky. on April 3, 1913 to Fred and Nannie Speck Flemmens. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John Howard Crick; a daughter, Evon Lawson; and a son-in-law, Ralph Katzenberger.

Survivors include a son, Howard (Rita) Crick of Cullman; two daughters, Betty Sue (Robert) Hook of Virginia Beach, Va. and Dottie Jean Katzenberger of Carmel, Ind.; 11 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Visitation was Friday.

Donald Posey

Funeral services for Donald Posey of Cullman are at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 16, 2003 at Williams-McCracken Funeral chapel. Information is incomplete and will be announced at a later date by the funeral home.

Williams-McCracken Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation is 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Julian F. Skinner

Funeral services for Julian F. Skinner, 90, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, 2003 at Jones Chapel Church of Christ, Larry Pruitt, Dewey Sims and Bud Causey officiating, with burial in Jones Chapel Cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.

Moss Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Skinner died Friday, Feb. 14 at his residence. He was born Dec. 29, 1912 to Charlie and Eileen Jones Skinner. He was a carpenter.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and four brothers, George H. Skinner, Charles V. Skinner, Benjamin F. Skinner, and Buddy Brown.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Tucker Skinner; two sons, Frank Jr. (Jeannene) Skinner and Randy (Lolette) Skinner; a daughter, Vicki (Don) Reid; a brother, Coy Skinner; two sisters, Wilma S. Riddle and Ruth Staples; seven grandchildren, Susan (Todd) Adkison, Jennnifer (Eddie) Sparkman, Stephen (Julie) Skinner, Rena (Allen) Putman, Seth Key, Vaneesa (Brandon) Patterson and Will Skinner; nine great-grandchildren; and a step-grandchild, Angela Skinner.

Visitation was Friday.
