Othell L. White

Funeral services for Othell L. White, 83, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 16, 2003 at Moss Service Chapel, Delwin Kilgo officiating, with burial in Cross Roads Cemetery with Masonic graveside services.

Moss Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. White died Friday, Feb. 14 at his residence. He was born Nov. 3, 1919 in Alabama to David Milton and Lula Frances Alvis White. He was a retired Cullman police officer and a veteran of the U.S. Army.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include two daughters, Ruth Gassner and Wanda Parker; a son, Maurice Othell White; three brothers, Perry White, Bertis White and Milton White; two sisters, Mavis Ott and Zenith Neal; five grandchildren, Dennis Eddy, Denesa Eddy, Cheri Ramos, Pam Blair, and Terry Ray Hendrix; eight great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons and nephews.

Honorary pallbearers will be Cullman police officers.

Visitation will be at 5:30 p.m. Saturday.

Walter Frank Harris

Funeral services for Walter Frank Harris, 61, of Leonardtown, Md. will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 17, 2003 at Leonardtown Baptist Church, the Rev. Clyde E. Phillips officiating, with burial in the Charles Memorial Gardens.

Brinsfield Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Harris died Tuesday, February 11, 2003 at St. Mary’s Hospital. He was born on Aug. 25, 1941 in Albertville, Ala., the son of James Albert and Jonnie B. Boen Harris. Mr. Harris served his country for 21 years in the United States Navy. In 1981 he moved his family to St. Mary’s County from Virginia Beach, Va. He was a member of the Leonardtown Baptist Church, chairmen of the deacons and a member of the church choir. He enjoyed working with his hands and fixing mechanical items. His favorite past time was his dogs, Senna, Cody and Katie.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, James Shirley Harris.

Survivors include his wife, Donna Rae Crabtree Harris, whom he married at the First Baptist Church in Cullman on March 23, 1968; twin daughters, Jennifer Renee Tsapatsaris, of Wyckoff, N.J. and Deborah Leah Macy of Richmond, Va., and three grandchildren, Lee and Evan Tsapatsaris and Seth Macy.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Leonardtown Baptist Church, P.O. Box 450, Leonardtown, Md. 20650.

Visitation will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Brinsfield Funeral Home, P.A., 22955 Hollywood Road, Leonardtown, Md.

Donald Wayne Posey
Funeral services for Donald Wayne Posey, 61, of Cullman are at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 16, 2003 at Williams-McCracken chapel, the Revs. David McDonald and John Hasterly officiating, with burial in Cullman City Cemetery.

Williams-McCracken Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Posey died, Friday, Feb. 14 at his residence. He was born in Trimble on Sept. 12, 1941 to John B. and Edna P. Simmons Posey. He was a truck driver.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Darlene Morgan and Christine Duke; and a brother, Ronald D. Posey.

Survivors include his wife, Annie Speer Posey; a son, Donald Keith (Melanie) Posey of Pelham; a daughter, Lisa (Alan) Johnson of Cullman; two sisters, Anna Faye (Guy) Miller and Brenda M. (James) Farley, both of Cullman; two grandchildren, Justin and Adam Johnson; and two step-grandchildren, Tyler and Kari Williams.

Visitation was Saturday.

Marie M. Moore

Funeral services for Marie M. Moore, 76, of Huntsville are at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 18 at Williams-McCracken Funeral chapel, Dennis Freeman officiating, with burial in Bethlehem West Cemetery.

Williams-McCracken Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Moore died Friday, Feb. 14 at Crestwood Medical Center. She was born Sept. 21, 1926 to Frederick and Ludie Mae Robinson Marlow.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her husband, James Moore of Huntsville; her son, Gary (Denise) Moore of Huntsville; two daughters, Linda (Robert) Horsch of Tuscon, Ariz. and Gayla (Steven) Zerr of St. Charles, Mo.; a brother, Harold Marlow of Columbus, Miss.; two sisters, Ima Jean Bellairs of Cullman and Azalee (George) Foy of Cullman; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Visitation is 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Lillian W. Hedgecock

Funeral services for Lillian W. Hedgcecock, 95, of Cullman are at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2003 at Cullman Heritage Funeral Home, Ralph McGowan officiating, with burial in New Hope #2 Cemetery.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Hedgecock died Friday, Feb. 14 at Burdick West Medical Center. She was born Oct. 19, 1907 in Blount County to Rubin and Nannie Whatley. She was a retired teacher, having taught school in Alabama for more than 30 years at various county schools. She was a dedicated member of New Hope #2 Baptist Church. She was also a member of the Retired Teachers Association.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Walton M. Hedgecock; two brothers, Talmadge Whatley and Virgil Whatley; and five sisters, Opal Whatley, Retheal McGriff, Orena Whately, Nina Gay Whatley and Vella Mae Watts.

Survivors include two sons, Charles (Sarah) Hedgecock of Cullman and Jimmy (Judy) Hedgecock of new Mexico; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Vola Beatrice ‘Bea’ Lindsey

Funeral services for Vola Beatrice “Bea” Lindsey, 71, of Falkville are at 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 17, 2003 at Peck Funeral Home Chapel, the Revs. Eldridge Criscoe and Truman Shaddix officiating, with burial in the Oden Ridge Cemetery.

Peck Funeal Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Lindsey died Friday, Feb. 14 at her residence. She was born June 6, 1931 in Madison County to Charles Edward Ward and Opal Fanny Elmore Ward. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, James Verlon Lindsey.

Survivors include her son, Charles Verlon Lindsey of Trussville; three daughters, Nelda Morgan of Eva, Donna Tomlinson of Hartselle and Rhonda Lindsey of Falkville; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be John Frerichs, Harold Woodruff, Eddie Walling, Dexter Lindsey, Bobby Beavers and Keith Lindsey.

Visitation is 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Gafton Ryan

Funeral services for Gafton Ryan, 74, of Falkville are 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 17, 2003 at Gandy’s Cove United Methodist Church, the Rev. Tim Kinney officiating, with burial in Cook Cemetery.

Peck Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Ryan died Saturday, Feb. 15 at his residence. He was born May 24, 1928 in Morgan County to Sidney A. and Marzie Mae Kelleum Ryan. He was a member of the Gandy’s Cove United Methodist Church. He worked for the Morgan County Commission for 34 years. When he retired, he was the foreman for Morgan County Commission Distict No. 3.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Alma Jean Ryan; three brothers, Truman Ryan, Auburn “Cotton” Ryan and Afton Ryan; and a sister, Ezell Stewart.

Survivors include his daughter, Ramona Ryan of Falkville; four sisters, LouEtta Kinney of Falkville, Datchel Holmes of Falkville, Juanita Burdick of Falkville and Gaynell Ryan of Cullman; and a grandson, Heath Ryan of Falkville.

Pallbearers will be Gordon Wood, Steven Ziaja, Charles Wood, Austin Hicks, Robert Jordan, Wayne Young and Steven McCarley.

Visitation is 5 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Nell Burke
Funeral services for Nell Burke, 81, of Cullman will be at 11 a.m. Feb. 19, 2003 at Williams-McCracken Chapel, Richard Bowling officiating, with burial in Cullman City Cemetery.

Williams-McCracken Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Burke died Monday, Feb. 17 at Woodland Medical Center. She was born May 30, 1921 in Morgan County to Alonza Jackson and Callie Carlisle Moore. She was a machine operator for Cullman Lingerie.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William V. Burke; a son, Phillip Gary Speakman; and two sisters, Blanche Speakman and Ruth Edmondson.

Survivors include a son, Hugh Carlisle Speakman of Arab; three nieces, Sandra Vick of Birmingham, Kathy Vining of Pinson and Judy Pack of Decatur; three nephews, Norman Speakman and Howard Edmondson of Birmingham and Kenneth Edmondson of Hartselle; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today.

Melba Ruth Brown

Funeral services for Melba Ruth Brown, 64, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2003 at Cullman Heritage Chapel, Frank Butts officiating, with burial in Pleasant Grove Cemetery.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Brown died Saturday, Feb. 15, at Cullman Regional Medical Center. She was born on Jan. 22, 1939 in Missouri to James Wendell and Minnie Mae Oden Dunn. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clyde Brown; and a brother, Roger Addison.

Survivors include three sons, Larry (Judy) Surrett of Cullman, and Wendell (Denise) Brown and Kenneth (Naomie) Brown, both of Hanceville; a brother, Doug Addison of Cullman; six stepchildren, Billy Brown, Elouise Smothers and Mary Louise Patterson, all of Cullman, Geraldine Scott of Michigan, Beatrice Brainbridge of Birmingham and Joe Brown; five grandchildren, Alex Thornton, Brandon Brown, Aaron Brown, Noah Brown and Zackary Brown; two nieces; and three nephews.

Visitation was Monday.

Lois Wilcox ‘Granny’ Potts

Funeral services for Lois Wilcox “Granny” Potts, 76, of Hanceville will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2003 at Hanceville Funeral Home Chapel, the Rev. Frank Butts officiating, with burial in Cullman City Cemetery.

Hanceville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Potts died Sunday, Feb. 16 at her residence. She was born in Cullman County March 28, 1926 to G.M. and Mary Calvert Peak. She was the onwner and operator of Granny’s Country Kitchen and participated in gospel singing with the Wilcox Family and the Bible-Etts singers.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husbands, the Rev. Harold Wilcox and Earl Potts.

Survivors include four daughters, Linda (Jeff) Bates of Cullman and Flo (Frank) Calvert, Beth (Mike) Lake, Patricia (Frankie) Shedd, all of Hanceville; son, Jerry Wilcox of Bremen; a brother, Roy (Lillie Mae) Peak of Tullahoma, Tenn.; two foster children, Billy (Debra) Phillips and Ronald Phillips; 10 stepchildren, Linda Day, Brenda Hamm, Helen Duncan, Patricia Madonia, Carolyn Reed, Ronnie Potts, Harold Potts, Larry Potts, Steven Potts, Jackie Potts; 19 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

Visitation is from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
