Gladys McBrayer

Funeral services for Gladys McBrayer, 93, are at 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 24, 2003 at Bethelem West Baptist Church, Jerry Lake and Tim Aris officiating, with burial in the adjoining cemetery.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. McBrayer died Friday, Feb. 21 at Beverly Healthcare in Arab. She was born July 27, 1909 in Lauderdale County to Green Berry and Mittie Mewbourn Cagle. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joseph Alton McBrayer; her daughter, Ruth Hale; a grandson, Duane Davidson Jr.; four brothers, Sherrill, Alvin, Orvis and Dewey Cagle; a sister, Leola Banks; and a son-in-law, Duane Davidson.

Survivors include two sons, Rex (Aliene) McBrayer of Cullman and Ralph (Delores) McBrayer of Cullman; her daughter, Ruby Jo Davidson of Russelville; and eight grandchildren, Kristi (Shane) Barnette of Cullman, Kerri (Michael) Hansen of Georgia, Jenny (Greg) Stone of Russelville, Mike (Vicki) Hale of Cullman, John (Jolene) Looney of Decatur, Martha McBrayer of Cullman, Don McBrayer of Cullman, Scott McBrayer of Cullman and Linda.

Visitation is 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Don Hugo White

Funeral services for Don Hugo White, 69, of Hanceville, are at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2003, at Hanceville Funeral Home, Leon Mauldin officiating, with burial in Hopewell Cemetery.

Hanceville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. White died Friday, Feb. 21 at BMC-Princeton. He was born Aug. 22, 1933 in Alabama to Luther Roy and Sophia Adams White.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Edna White of Hanceville; four daughters, Rene Harvey of Columbia, Tenn., Sheila Owens of Corner, Pamela Thrasher of Decatur and Karen Lynn White of Hanceville; a sister, Sara Ann Quick of Hanceville; two brothers, Leon White and Luther Roy White, both of Hanceville; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Visitation is 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Raymond Keith Chesser
Funeral services for Raymond Keith Chesser, 50, of Cullman were Monday, Feb. 24, 2003 at Cullman Heritage Funeral Home, Andy Coffey and Darrell Briscoe officiating, with burial in Cullman Memory Gardens.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Chesser died Friday, Feb. 21 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born March 29, 1952 in Cullman County. He was a retired retail store manager.

Survivors include his wife, Molly Hollis Chesser of Cullman; his parents, Raymond and Bernice Chesser; two sons, Raymond Keith Chesser II of Cullman and John Allan Chesser of Texas; two sisters, Debora Jean (Ed) Powers of Georgia and Dona Kay Moody of Cullman; three grandchildren, Camron, Corey and Christopher Chesser; and 10 nieces and nephews.

Visitation was Sunday.

William Cecil Fisher

Funeral services for William Cecil Fisher, 83, of Hazel Green will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2003 at Valhalla Funeral Home Chapel, Wilson Byrd officiating, with burial in Valhalla Memory Gardens.

Valhalla Funeral Home of Huntsville is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Fisher died Sunday, Feb. 23. He was born in Crane Hill and lived in Madison County since retiring from the U.S. Air Force where he served from 1942 to 1964. He worked as a comptroller for Bob Tabb Cadillac and Bentley Pontiac where he retired a second time.

Survivors include his wife, Mae; three daughters, Kitty Boyette, Kathy Raymond and Brenda Reynolds; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.

Benjamin A. Salter Jr.

Funeral services for Benjamin A. Salter Jr., 66, of Quinton will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2003 at Fairview Baptist Church of Addison, Brother Campbell officiating, with burial in the church cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.

Bell Funeral Home of Sumiton is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Salter died Saturday, Feb. 22. He served in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1957. He was an active reservist after his tour of duty. He served in the city of Addison as an auxiliary police officer. He was also an ordained minister.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Nell Dunson; his mother, Flora Justice; and his father, Ben Salter.

Survivors include two adopted daughters, Juanita Dunson of Pinson and Mary Ann Dunson of Addison; two sisters, Dorothy Cornelison and Jimmie Drinkard, both of Dora; two brothers, Burl Dill of Dora and Terry Salter of Addison; and a brother-in-law, Charles Mustgrove of Sumiton.

Visitation was Monday.

James Eddie Hale
James Eddie Hale, 60, of Cullman died Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2003 in Hanceville.

Moss Service Funeral Home is notifying.

Mr. Hale was born in Arkansas on Jan. 29, 1943 to James Edward and Lola C. High Hale. He was a federal state supervisor for the egg and poultry industry.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret Hale of Cullman; a son, James Hale of Cullman; and his mother, Margaret Hale of Berryville, Ark.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. The body will be sent to Berryville, Ark. for interment in Hale Cemetery in Carroll County, Ark.

Alma Oden Shikles

Funeral services for Alma Oden Shikles, 91, of Cullman will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 28, 2003 at Flint Creek Baptist Church, the Revs. W. C. Green and Daymon Olson officiating, with burial in the church cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.

Moss Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Shikles died Monday, Feb. 24 at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Birmingham. She was born April 30, 1911 to Elias and Alice Couch Oden. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Shikles; her son, Donnie Shikles; and her parents.

Survivors include two sons, Jimmy Shikles and Billy (Lenell) Shikles of Cullman; three daughters, Frances (Jim) Holliday of Hayden, Sue (Mike) Hillman of Cullman and Rhonda (Eric) Thomas of Birmingham; six grandchildren, Rita Reynolds of Norcross, Ga., Mark Hudson, Amy Carpenter, Allison Shikles, all of Cullman, Marianne Kittinger of New York, N.Y., and Marliese Thomas of Birmingham; and two great-grandchildren, Matthew and Aaron Carpenter of Cullman.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today.

Mamie Belle Woodard

Funeral services for Mamie Belle Woodard, 100, of Arley will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 27, 2003 at Liberty Baptist Church, Kenneth Hancock, Patrick Cleghorn and Steve Fincher officiating, with burial in the church cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.

Nichols Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Woodard died Tuesday, Feb. 25.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Woodard; and three sons, Buford Woodard, Ruford Woodard amd Ezra Woodard.

Survivors include a son, C.B. Woodard of Arley; two daughters, Sylvia Morgan of Addison and Faye Bice of Birmingham; 16 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation was Wednesday.

Lydia Whitworth

Funeral services for Lydia Whitworth, 89, of Blountsville will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 27, 2003 at Blountsville Funeral Home Chapel, Paul Kelley officiating, with burial in Austin Creek Cemetery.

Blountsville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Ms. Whitworth died Tuesday, Feb. 25 at Medical Center Blount. She was born in Blount County to William Cornelius and Modeana Pass Whitworth. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her brother, Joe Whitworth of Blountsville.

Visitation will be at 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Hester White
Funeral services for Hester White, 98, of Birmingham, formerly of Cullman, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 1, 2003 at Moss Service Chapel, Floyd Peters officiating, with burial in Valley Springs Cemetery.

Moss Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. White died Wednesday, Feb. 26 at Keytona Nursing Home in Birmingham. She was born Aug. 17, 1904 in Alabama to Thomas and Ida King Waters. She was a homemaker and a member of East Side Baptist Church in Cullman.

She was preceded in death by three sons, Charles, Billy and Glenn White; her husband, Dallas White; and her parents.

Survivors include two daughters, Kathleen Holmes of Birmingham and Frances Sterling of Blairsville, Ga.; 13 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today.

James Eddie Hale
