Myrtle Inez Oliver

Services for Myrtle Inez Oliver, 67, of Eva will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 21, 2002 at Lucas Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky, Ohio with burial in Chandler Cemetery in Wyandot County, Ohio.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.

Mrs. Oliver died Thursday, Jan. 17 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. She was born in Ohio on Nov. 1, 1934 to Turman Royee and Maude Andre Oliver Turner. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, Freeman Franklin Oliver of Eva; two sons, Franklin (Barb) Oliver, Jonathan Oliver both of Ohio, Jim (Doris) Foley of Cullman; daughter, Lisa (Billy) Gardner of Kentucky; brother, Truman Turner Jr. of Ohio; sisters, Iona Stansberry, Helen Von Dreau, Juanita Arnold all of Ohio; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Jessie Orville Jones

Jessie Orville Jones, 60, of Cullman died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2002 at Heritage Manor in Columbia, Tenn. There will be no funeral services.

Mr. Jones was born in Chenoa, Ky., on July 26, 1941 to James H. and Messie Baird Jones.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Joanne Jones of Cullman; two sons, Jessie Jones Jr. of Cincinnati, Ohio, James Ferlin Jones of Chicago, Ill.; one stepdaughter, Sandra Matthews of Cullman; two stepsons, Vincent Reiter of Cullman, Tony Reiter of Chicago, Ill.; and brother, Andrew Jones of Milford, Ohio.

Walter Elvis Drummond

Services for Walter Elvis Drummond, 73, of Cullman will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, 2002 at Collins-Burke Funeral Home Chapel, Clarence Price and Junior Burnom officiating, with burial in Curry Cemetery.

Collins-Burke Funeral Home in Jasper is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Drummond died Thursday, Jan. 17 at his residence.

Survivors include his wife, Arvelene Drummond of Cullman; son, Wayne Drummond of Cullman; two sisters, Nona Gail Price, Delaine Bridier both of Cullman; brother, Deltis Drummond of Cullman; two grandchildren, Steve (Sabrina) Drummond, Brade (Bridget); and one great-grandchild, Bailee Drummond.

Visitation will be at 5:30 p.m. today.

Ruble Roland McFadden
Services for Ruble Roland McFadden, 74, of Hanceville will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, 2002 at Williams-McCracken Funeral Home Chapel, John Bishop officiating, with burial in Simcoe Baptist Cemetery.

Williams-McCracken Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. McFadden died Thursday, Jan. 17 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born Feb. 23, 1927 in Belmont, Miss. to Allie Keifer and Ora Lee Bennett McFadden. He was a truck driver and a veteran of World War II.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley Easterwood McFadden of Hanceville; two daughters, Carolyn (Carlton) Jacobs of Simcoe and Wilma Jean “Jeannie” (Randy) Watson of Cullman; a sister, Emma Jean Holcomb of Belmont, Miss.; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Visitation was Friday.

Cynthia J. Phillips

Memorial services for Cynthia J. Phillips, 48, of Arley will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 20, 2002 at Williams-McCracken Chapel, Kenneth Hancock officiating.

Williams-McCracken Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Phillips died Friday, Jan. 18 at Walker Baptist Medical Center. She was born Oct. 2, 1953 in Birmingham.

She was preceded in death by her father, to Claude R. Jones.

Survivors include her mother, Vina Burgette Colvert; her husband, Richard Phillips; a son, David Robert King Jr.; a daughter, Amanda Marlene Phillips; three brothers, Paul R. Jones I, Thomas S. Jones Sr. and James R. Calloway; two sisters, Rebecca J. Hill and Hilda F. Woodard; and one grandchild, David Robert King III.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today.

Laura Hue Smith

Services for Laura Hue Smith, 81, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 20, 2002 at Cullman Heritage Chapel, Jackie Ellenberg and Aubra Gable officiating, with burial in Cullman City Cemetery.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Smith died Thursday, Jan. 17 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. She was born in Morgan County on Sept. 26, 1920 to Hugh L. and Arabelle Weaver St. John. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Clifford Smith.

Survivors include two sons, Clifford H. (Joyce) Smith of Decatur, Jimmy (Carolyn) Smith of Cullman; daughter, Sarah Sellers of Cullman; sister, Sallie Clemons of Decatur; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today.

Jesse Ridgeway Sr.

Services for Jesse Ridgeway Sr., 80, of Arab will be at noon Saturday, Jan. 19, 2002 at Arab Memorial Chapel, Ennis Stone officiating, with burial in New Brashier’s Chapel Cemetery.

Arab Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Ridgeway died Thursday, Jan. 17 at Marshall Medical Center North. He was born Nov. 20, 1921 in Marshall County to Gordon and Lena Cox Ridgeway. He was retired from the Marshall County Gas Company.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Opal Ridgeway of Arab; two sons, Jesse Ridgeway Jr. of Arab and Max Ridgeway of Crane Hill; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

James ‘Jim’ Chaney
Services for James “Jim” Chaney, 69, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 21, 2002 at Moss Funeral Chapel, the Rev. John Temple officiating, with burial in Cullman City Cemetery.

Moss Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Chaney died Friday, Jan. 18 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born Dec. 31, 1932 to James N. and Ruth Howard Chaney. He was the owner and operator of Chaney Seed & Feed and Chaney Feed Mill. He was a member of the Cullman Masonic Lodge and Shriners, a U.S. Air Force veteran and a long-time member of Seventh Street Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Overton Chaney of Cullman; two sons, Judge Kim (Maureen) Chaney of Cullman, Col Mike (Robynn) Chaney, U.S.A.F. Retired, of Tallahasse, Fla.; two stepdaughters, Sonya Sullins, Lori Pearson both of West Point; three grandchildren, Alex Chaney, Emily Chaney, Brinlee Chaney; seven step-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandchild.

Visitation will be at 6 p.m. today.

Penny Maude Hatchett

Graveside services for Penny Maude Hatchett, 94, of Cullman, formerly of Tuscaloosa, will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 21, 2002 at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Moss Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Hatchett died Friday, Jan. 18 at Woodland Village Nursing Home. She was born July 25, 1907 to Edward Perry and Mary Elizabeth O’Neal Colvin. She was a bookkeeper.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Pearson McCary Hatchett.

Survivors include one son, David Pearson Hatchett; one daughter, Mary Catherine Fairbrother of Cullman; four grandchildren, Susie (Jim) Stecker, Karen (Robert) Miller, Pete (Loni) Hatchett, Heather Hatchett; and sis great-grandchildren.

Tessie Ellard Duke

Services for Tessie Ellard Duke, 89, of Holly Pond will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2002 at Holly Pond Funeral Home Chapel, the Rev. Tom Williams officiating, with burial in Holly Pond Cemetery.

Holly Pond Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Duke died Saturday, Jan. 19 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. She was born in Cullman County on Nov. 25, 1912 to Oscar and Ida Wiggins Ellard. She was a homemaker and lunchroom worker at Holly Pond School. She worked at Cullman Lingerie for several years and was a member of Holly Pond Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Jesse A. Duke.

Survivors include one daughter, Dell Bridges of Melbourne, Fla.; grandson, Brad Bridges or Orlando, Fla.; two great-grandchildren, Hannah and Ryan Bridges both of Orlando, Fla.; and brother, Dewey Ellard of Mobile.

Visitation will be from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Monday.

William ‘Bill’ Olinger

Services for William “Bill” Olinger, 72, of Blountsville will be announced by Holly Pond Funeral Home.

Eunice Akins

Services for Eunice Akins will be announced by Cullman Heritage Funeral Home.

Joann Carpenter

Services for Joann Carpenter, 35, of Cullman will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 21, 2002 at Cullman Heritage Chapel, the Rev. Steve Rodgers officiating, with burial in Cullman Memory Gardens.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Carpenter died Friday, Jan. 18. She was born in Piqua, Ohio on March 11, 1966. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her father, Jackie Lee Graham.

Survivors include her husband, Herbert Carpenter Jr. of Cullman; mother, Eva Graham of Decatur; two sisters, Sheila (Charles) Trotter of Tennessee, Susanne (David) Moore of Cullman; and niece, Britney Moore of Cullman.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today.
