Hubert ‘Bert’ Barnett

Services for Hubert “Bert” Barnett, 77, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 20, 2002 at East Point Church of God, the Rev. Jeff Bennett officiating, with burial in Ebenezer Cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Barnett died Monday, March 18 at his residence. He was born in Cullman County on Sept. 8, 1924 to James F. and Lena Clark Barnett. He was a retired salesman and a veteran of World War II, having served as an Air Force gunner.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Wilford Barnett and Maurice Barnett; two sisters, Rachel Smith and O’Bera Barnett; and his first wife, Mary Ruth Harbinson Barnett.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia Ann Stone Barnett of Cullman; four sons, Michael (Diane) Barnett, Richard (Michelle) Barnett, Scott Barnett and Darryl (Deanne) Bartlett of Cullman; three daughters, Pat (Ned) Wright, Renee (Terry) Loyd and Chandra (Alan) Adair of Cullman; two brothers, W.L. (Fern) Barnett and Eugene (Mattie) Barnett of Cullman; five sisters, Pauline Porter, Ruby Nichols, Ethelene King, Glenice Tankersley and Rilla Mae (Dee) Quick of Cullman; and 16 grandchildren.

Visitation was Tuesday.

Fannie Louise Livingston

Services for Fannie Louise Livingston, 91, of Hanceville will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 21, 2002 at Hanceville Funeral Home, the Rev. Jerrol Smith officiating, with burial in Good Hope Cemetery.

Hanceville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Livingston died Tuesday, March 19 in Manchester, Tenn. She was born in Cullman on Jan. 14, 1911 to William Harrison and Mary Ellen Schultz LeGrand. She was the owner of a Hanceville restaurant.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John E. Livingston; and her parents.

Survivors include six nephews, Jack Lee, James Lee, Jimmy Lee, Hartley Stewart, Rayburn Stewart and Jerry Lee; and two nieces, Jayne Roberts and Jeannette Duke.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Laura M. Hipps

Laura M. Hipps, 82 of Eva died Monday, March 18, 2002 in Hartselle.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Peck Funeral Home.

Ruth Walker

Services for Ruth Walker, 86, of Cullman will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 21, 2002 at Peck Funeral Home Chapel, the Revs. George Redding and Steve Rodgers officiating, with burial in Friendship Cemetery.

Peck Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Walker died Sunday, March 17 at Woodland Health Care Center. She was born Sept. 9, 1915 in Marshall County to Charles Samuel and Claudia Iduma Martin McDonald. She was a homemaker, farmer and member of Friendship Methodist Church in Cullman County.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include three sons, Travis Price of Orlando, Fla., Charles Price of Hartselle, Gary Price of Vinemont; a daughter, Christine Willingham of Vinemont; a brother, Claude L. McDonald of Oklahoma City, Okla.; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Jason Price, Ty Bogard, Kenneth Willingham, Shaun Price, Roger Bogard and Kenn Pietrzak.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Sue Nell Cadle

Services for Sue Nell Cadle, 56, of Cullman were Sunday, March 17, 2002 at Fairview West Baptist Church, with burial in the church cemetery.

Nichols Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

She died Friday, March 15 at her residence.

Survivors include her mother, Nellie Lee Cadle of Cullman; three sisters, Nancy (Hilton) Kelley and Ida (Gwendol) Echols, both of Cullman and Connie Sulephen of Miami, Fla.; and a brother, L.D. “Jay” (Janice) Cadle of Cullman.

Chester ‘Brownie’ Malone

Services for Chester “Brownie” Malone, 86, of Oneonta, formerly of Blountsville, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 21, 2002 at Mt. Grove Baptist Church, Waylon Thrasher and Bruce Dial officiating, with burial in South Cemetery.

Blountsville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Malone died Tuesday, March 19 at TLC Nursing Center. He was born in Cullman County to Timothy and Mary Etta Butts Malone. He was a retired farmer and a member of Mt. Grove Baptist Church in Blountsville.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ida Mae McDowell Malone; and his half brother, Oliver Bradford.

Survivors include his son Vernon (Betty Crane) Malone of Blountsville; two grandchildren, Melinda Malone Bright of Cullman, Tracy Malone Flanagan of Blountsville; two step-grandchildren, Shannell Crane Tidmore, Kellie Lynn Crane both of Blountsville; four great-grandchildren, Rebecca Dawn Burns of Smoke Rise, Houston Garrett Flanagan, Austin Montgomery Flanagan both of Blountsville, Tyler Reese Bright of Cullman; two step-grandchildren, Cassie Rhae Crane, Emily Jade Crane both of Blountsville; and five half brothers and sisters, Bessie Smith of Birmingham, Ressie Black of Walter, Marie Mason of Tennessee, Ottis Bradford of Blountsville, Billy Ray Bradford of Hanceville.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Carl Hammond Bennett
Services for Carl Hammond Bennett, 79, of Battleground will be at 2 p.m. Friday, March 22, 2002 at Cullman Heritage Chapel, Billy Gable and Steve Brown officiating, with burial in Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Bennett died Wednesday, March 20 at his residence. He was born Dec. 29, 1922 in Morgan County to Radford and Chloe Miller Bennett. He was a deacon at Macedonia Baptist Church for 46 years and a member of West Point Masonic Lodge No. 758. He was also a U.S. Army World War II veteran. and retired from Nicholson File.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Edith Humphries Bennett of Battleground; two sons, Perry (Donna) Bennett of Battleground and Eric (Dana) Bennett of Sevierville, Tenn.; three daughters, Sharon (Alan) Walker of Hartselle, Karen (John) Holland of Falkville and Paula (Steve) Brown; seven grandchildren, Shelley Walker, Shauna Walker, Wesley Holland, Erica Holland, Holly Bennett, Erin Bennett and Zachary Bennett; and one great-grandchild, Seth Pillow.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Funeral arrangements for Larry James Sterling will be announced by Cullman Heritage Funeral Home.

Joyce Ann Hill

Services for Joyce Ann Hill, 62, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Friday, March 22, 2002 at Williams-McCracken Chapel with burial in Cullman Memory Gardens.

Williams-McCracken Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Hill died Sunday, March 17 at her residence. She was born in Gadsden on Oct. 25, 1939 to Wallace H. and Mary Willet Bailey. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Dennis Hill.

Survivors include her son, Eugene (Jeannie) Hill of Cullman; five brothers, Tommy (Annie) Bailey, Terry Bailey, Calvin Bailey, Walter Bailey, James (Sherrie) Bailey all of Cullman; four sisters, Gail (Jerry) Duke, Sandra Baker both of Cullman, Linda Alexander, Diane Ragsdale both of Arley; five grandchildren, Sonya Ann (Jody) Byram, Gerald Eugene Hill, Christopher Gilley, Jeremy Lynn Hill, Jamie Ann Hill all of Cullman; and one great-grandchild, Kelce Leahe Byram.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today.

William Ezra Hayes

Services for William Ezra Hayes, 68, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 21, 2002 at Williams-McCracken Chapel, Mike Smith officiating, with burial in Etha Cemetery.

Williams-McCracken Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Hayes died Monday, March 18. He was born Feb. 8, 1934 in Blount County to William and Flora Lee Earl Hayes. He was a sheet metal worker.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley James Hayes of Cullman; his mother-in-law, Velma James of Cullman; a brother, J.T. Hayes of Cullman; and two sisters, Marie (James) Chumbley of Cullman and Arzell Ponder of Baileyton.

Visitation was Wednesday.

Hester G. Sweatmon

Services for Hester G. Sweatmon, 86, of Cullman were Monday, March 18, 2002 at Hanceville Funeral Home Chapel, Elder Guy Hunt and the Rev. Lenard Nail officiating, with burial in Holly Pond Cemetery.

Hanceville Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Sweatmon died Saturday, March 16 at Woodland Medical Center. She was born in Cullman on March 17, 1914 to Walter Manning Gorham and Alice Dingler Gorham. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, J.O. Sweatmon; her parents; her siblings, Marion, Chester, and Grady Gorham, Valena Helms, Stella Fulmer, Willie Mae Barker; a grandson, Lee Roden; a great-grandson, Justin Nuss; and a son-in-law, Feltus Estes.

Survivors include four daughters, Lavonda Blackwell of Lacey’s Spring, Gaye (Winton) Cannington of Warner Robbins, Ga., Jeanette Estes of Holly Pond, Faye (Henry) Owen of Cherokee, N.C.; two sons, James E. “Edd” (Virginia) Sweatmon of Baileyton, Junior (Martha) Sweatmon of Good Hope; three sisters, Ruth Coggins, Odell Seals both of Baileyton, Orene Davis of Hanceville; two brothers, Clemon Gorham, Marshall Gorham both of Baileyton; 14 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Laura M. Hipps

Services for Laura M. Hipps, 82, of Eva will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 21, 2002 at Eva United Methodist Church, the Revs. Brady McCullough and Phillip Robinson officiating, with burial in Eva Cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.

Peck Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Hipps died Monday, March 18, 2002 at Sunshine Haven. She was born Oct. 19, 1919 in Morgan County to Melvin M. and Alice Cordelia Smith Hipps. She was a retired teacher and librarian, having worked for 40 years in Morgan County Board of Education. Twenty years of her tenure was at Cotaco School. She was a board member for Eva Public Library and a member of Eva United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Cecil Hipps, Mitchell Hipps and Van Hipps; and one sister, Mary Culbreath.

Survivors include a sister, Louise Tillery of Cold Springs, Ky.; three nieces, Judy Burrows and Rita Childers, both of Eva, and Reba Whitaker of Hanceville; three nephews, John Hipps, Kenneth Tillery of Cold Springs, Ky. and Keith Tillery of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.

Pallbearers will be Roland Oden, William Childers, S.D. Childers, Lee Willis, William Ellinger and Bert Collins.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Eva Public Library.

Visitation was Wednesday.
