Bobby W. Drinkard

Services for Bobby W. Drinkard, 58, of Oden Ridge will be at 3 p.m. Friday, March 22, 2002 at Peck Funeral Home Chapel, the Revs. Shelby Puckett, Myron Mooney and Rick Craft officiating, with burial in Hartselle City Cemetery.

Peck Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Drinkard died Wednesday, March 20 at his residence. He was born in Morgan County on April 19, 1943 to Sam W. and Eva Lovell Drinkard. He had been an over-the-road truck driver for Conagra and Gordon’s Transport.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Carolyn Drinkard.

Survivors include his wife, Norma A. Drinkard of Oden Ridge; three daughters, Debra Helms of Hartselle, Cindy Yancy of Eva, Tina King of Elkmont; and six grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Shorty Briscoe, Joe Roberts, Bennie Drinkard, Gary Drinkard, Cecil Mobley, Frank Knop.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice of the Valley in Decatur.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today.

Zelda Gorham Shelton

Services for Zelda Gorham Shelton, 80, of Blountsville will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 21, 2002 at Fowler Springs Baptist Church near Blountsville, Michael Murphree and Greg Lyles officiating, with burial in Holly Pond Cemetery.

Blountsville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Shelton died Tuesday, March 19 at Medical Center Blount in Oneonta. She was born in Blount County to Phillip Edward and Sarah Vernettie Bryan. She was a homemaker and a member of Fowler Springs Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her husband, Fred Shelton of Blountsville; her son, Charles (Sammie) Gorham of Blountsville; two granddaughters, Carla Strott of Atlanta, Ga. and Laura Jean Johnson of Birmingham; a great-grandson, Ben Clower of Atlanta, Ga.; two stepdaughters, Diane Baker and Teresa Owens of south Alabama; and three step-grandchildren, Ann Robinson of Birmingham, Lacey Owens and Joey Owens both of Clanton.

James Edward Mashburn
Graveside services for James Edward Mashburn, 73, of Cullman will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 23, 2002 at Ebenezer Cemetery.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Mashburn died Wednesday, March 20 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born in Cullman County on Jan. 18, 1929 to Dallis B. Mashburn and Effie Mae Weaver.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his friends, Darrell, Delina, Demicca and Damon Cleghorn and Terry, Melissa and Caleb Williams.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

Ruby Wynell Tankersley

Services for Ruby Wynell Tankersley, 79, of Vinemont will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 23, 2002 at Bethlehem West Baptist Church, Tim Aris officiating, with burial in Ebenezer Cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.

Mrs. Tankersley died Thursday, March 21 at her residence. She was born in Cullman on Nov. 17, 1922 to William Homer and Mary Cornelius Harper. She was a nurse practitioner at Summerford Nursing Home.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Talmadge Harper, Bill Harper; and sisters, Ima Holland, Azalee Belther.

Survivors include her husband, Clyde Tankersley of Vinemont; two sons, W.C. Jr. (Geraldean) Tankersley of Mesquite, Texas, Donald (Tami) Tankersley of Niceville, Fla.; daughter, Wynell (Armon) Thompson of West Point; two sisters, Athelene (Mack) Brown of Florida, Geraldine Garrett of Decatur; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today.

Lois Jones Oaks

Graveside services for Lois Jones Oaks, 92, of Cullman, formerly of Birmingham will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 23, 2002 at Oakland Cemetery in Ensley, the Rev. Mike Russell officiating.

Moss Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Oaks died Wednesday, March 20 at Cullman Long Term Care. She was born March 7, 1910 to David and Leigh White Jones. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lenton Oaks; and twin sons, DeWayne and LeWayne Oaks.

Survivors include two daughters, Juretta (Charles) Pridmore of Tuscon, Ariz. and Judy (Attilio) Chiaranda of Cullman; a brother, Eston Jones of Cullman; a sister, Glennis Smith of Birmingham; three grandchildren, Susan Pridmore of Mill Valley, Calif., Todd (Deanna) Chiaranda of Cullman and Mary Amanda Chiaranda of Birmingham; and a great-grandson, Harper Todd Chiaranda of Cullman.

Memorial contributions may be made to North Alabama Alzheimer’s Research Chapter, Century Office Center Suite 16, 3322 So. Memorial Pkwy., Huntsville, Ala. 35801.

No visitation is planned.

Henry Stephen Daniel
Services for Henry Stephen Daniel, 79, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 24, 2002 at Moss Service Chapel, Henry Hobson officiating, with burial in Holly Pond Cemetery.

Moss Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Daniel died Thursday, March 21 at his residence. He was born Jan. 28, 1923 to Stephen Presley and Ruth Malene O’Neal Daniel. He was a road construction superintendent.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Imagene Taylor Daniel; a brother, Donald Daniel; a sister, Ethel Pierce; and his mother-in-law, Sleena Taylor.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Hospice of Cullman County.

Visitation will be at 6 p.m. today.

Melvin Eliga Curvin

Services for Melvin Eliga Curvin, 72, of Vinemont will be at 11 a.m. Sunday, March 24, 2002 at Cullman Heritage Chapel, the Rev. Mike Freeman officiating, with burial in First Baptist Church of Fairview Cemetery.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Curvin died Friday, March 22 at his residence. He was born May 20, 1929 in Calhoun County.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James David and Esther Mae Humphry Curvin.

Survivors include his wife, Willie Pearl Roberts Curvin of Vinemont; two sons, Davey Lee Curvin and Melvin (Shelley) Curvin of Vinemont; three daughters, Elizabeth (Vernon) Goodno of Holly Pond, Linda (Bobby) Brooks of Vinemont and Shirley Curvin of Scottsboro; three brothers, Willie Curvin of Hanceville, Lewis (Irene) Curvin of Vinemont and John (Robyne) Curvin of Whitesburg, Tenn.; four sisters, Louise (Ed) Eiland of Elba, Aline (Ed) Kimbril of Cullman, Rosalee Curvin and Peggy (Junior) Freeman of Winston County; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Visitation is from 6 to 9 p.m. today.

Robert C. ‘Bob’ Grant

Services for Robert C. “Bob” Grant, 84, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 24, 2002 at St. John Evangelical Protestant Church, the Rev. Bob Kurtz officiating, with burial in Cullman City Cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service. Mr. Grant will have an Elks graveside service.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Grant died Thursday, March 21 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born Jan. 9, 1918 in Delaware County, Ind. to Edgar Richard and Christena Mosier Grant. He was a salesman and a member of Elk’s Lodge No. 1609 and the Moose Lodge.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Richard A. Grant; and his grandson, Heath Sewell.

Survivors include his wife of nearly 62 years, Betty Norton Grant of Cullman; a son, Bob (Beverly) Grant of Roopville, Ga.; a daughter, Susan (John) Aluskewicz of South Hampton, Long Island, N.Y.; seven grandchildren, Heather Grant, Rhett Grant, Eric Grant, Brenda Grant, Douglas Grant, Beth Grant, and Katy McKenzie; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Larry James Sterling

Services for Larry James Sterling, 54, of Cullman will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 23, 2002 at Cullman Heritage Chapel, Vernon Willis and Harold Wisener officiating, with burial in Mt. Pisgah Cemetery.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Sterling died Tuesday, March 19 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born Dec. 1, 1947 in Cullman County. He was a machinist at Americold.

He was preceded in death by his father, James Sterling; and his first wife, Betty Diane Harper Sterling.

Survivors include his wife, Kay Peak Sterling of Cullman; his mother, Annie Gladys Dunn of Cullman; two sons, Larry Matthew Sterling and J.J. Sterling, both of Cullman; two daughters, Valarie (William) Yearwood of Cullman and Renea (Eric) Fletcher of Maryland; a sister, Shirley (Jerry) Wells of Cullman; and four grandchildren, Shelby Yearwood, Darby Yearwood, Alex Fletcher and Kynan Fletcher.

Visitation was Friday.

Audie Lou Walters

Services for Audie Lou Walters, 89, of Hanceville will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 24, 2002 at Hanceville Funeral Home Chapel, the Rev. Sidney Cottingham officiating, with burial in Hopewell Cemetery.

Hanceville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

She died Friday, March 22 at Victorian Manor. She was born Feb. 6, 1913 in Cullman to W.K. and Emma Whitfield Compton. She was a retired school teacher in the Tarrant City School System and was a member of Smokerise Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include a sister, Olmer Jones of Warrior; two nephews, Lee Compton of Hanceville and Jimmy Dean of Vinemont; and a niece, Ruth Gilbert of Attalla.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today.

Lucy Mae Callahan Reeves Childers

Services for Lucy Mae Callahan Reeves Childers, 67, of Hartselle will be at 1 p.m. Monday, March 25, 2002 at Peck Funeral Home Chapel, the Revs. Charles Williams and Keith Jones officiating, with burial in New Friendship Cemetery.

Peck Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Childers died Thursday, March 21 at University Hospital in Birmingham. She was born in Morgan County on June 23, 1934 to James Albert and Ella Lee Owens Callahan. She was a retired custodian at Lurleen B. Wallace Development Center and attended Decatur First Holy Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, George Buddy Callahan, Franklin Callahan; and one sister, Mattie Reeves.

Survivors include her husband, French Earl “Frank” Childers of Hartselle; two sons, Ronnie Reeves of Somerville, Lynn Reeves of Cullman; three daughters, Yulonda Cloer of Somerville, Shelia McCormick of Brindlee Mountain, Diane Roberson of Hartselle; one brother, Robert Callahan of Hartselle; four sisters, Janet Eddy, Pauline Maples both of Hartselle, Edna Callahan, Lorene Hill both of Valhermoso; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Sunday.
