Billy Ray Banks
Services for Billy Ray Banks, 67, of Hanceville will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 23, 2002 at Hanceville Assembly of God, the Rev. Frank Butts officiating, with burial in Fairview West Cemetery.

Hanceville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Banks died April 20. He was born in Blount County on July 16, 1934 to Manuel and Bertha Quick Banks. He was a head mill operator.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Fay Nell Hamm Banks of Hanceville; a son, Keith (Missy) Banks of Oneonta; two daughters, Becky (Carlton) Kilgore of Blount County and Sherry (David) Williams of Morgan County; a sister, Gertrude (Luther) Thomas of Hanceville; six grandchildren, Laura Richy, Tony Cole, Steven Mustgrove, Stacy Spahn, Brandon Banks and Krystle Banks; and seven great-grandchildren.

Visitation was Monday.

Florence Jordan Weeks

Florence Jordan Weeks, 79, of Cullman died Friday, April 19, 2002 at Cullman Regional Medical Center.

Hanceville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Weeks was born in Carbon Hill on Nov. 10, 1922 to James A. and Estel Castleberry Jordan. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include a brother, Ray Jordan of Florida; and a sister, Lestine Walkup of Cullman.

No visitation or funeral services are planned.

Randall Lee Smith

Services for Randall Lee Smith, 42, of Addison were Monday, April 22, 2002 at Sardis Baptist Church No. 2, David Miller and William McClellan officiating, with burial in the adjoining cemetery.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Smith died Friday, April 19. He was born in Cullman on June 8, 1959. He was a surgical technician for Dr. Berquist. He was a Boy Scout Scoutmaster, a deacon at Sardis Baptist Church No. 2 and a children’s church director. He was a member of the U.S. Army and National Guard.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Annie Smith and Florence and Troy Dowda; brother, Bobby Joe Smith; and sister, Sherry Ellen Smith.

Survivors include his wife, Suzette Sterling Smith of Addison; parents, Edna and William Carroll of Hanceville, Pete and Peggy Smith of Odenville; two daughters, Savannah Smith, Kathryn Smith; and three sisters, Dana Swindle, Tina (Kenneth) Miller, Rita (Dale) Presto all of Hanceville.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Alabama Sheriffs Boys Ranch.

Visitation was Sunday.

Judy Carol Ray

Services for Judy Carol Ray, 49, of Oxford will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 23, 2002 at First United Methodist Church of Oxford, the Rev. Ralph Barrow officiating, with burial in Nesmith United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Ray died Saturday, April 20 at her residence. She was a native of Double Springs where she attended Winston County High School. She was employed by Salon Chateau in Anniston as a hairstylist. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Oxford.

She was preceded in death by her father, Floyd Cagle of Double Springs; and two sisters, Linda Snell of Elgin, Ill. and Faye Lovett of Double Springs.

Survivors include her husband, Darryal Wayne Ray of Oxford; a son, Jonathan Allen Ray of Birmingham; two daughters, Crosbie Rana Songer of San Antonio, Texas and Allison Nicole Ray of Oxford; her mother, Hazel Ruth Cagle of Haleyville; three sisters, Jean Boucher of Ingleside, Ill., Betty Barnett of Haleyville and Kathy Harbin of Hamilton; three brothers, Ronnie Cagle, Donnie Cagle and Michael Cagle, all of Haleyville; and three grandchildren, Caitlin Marie Phillips, Christian Harrison Phillips and Jacob Dawson Songer.

Pallbearers will be Tony Morris, Mike Shipley, Chris Abernathy, Marty Robbins, Gary Pinkard and Randal Ray.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to First United Methodist Church of Oxford or Nesmith United Methodist Church.

Visitation will be from noon to 1 p.m. today at the church.

Howard M. Murphree

Services for Howard M. Murphree, 89, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 23, 2002 at Moss Service Chapel, the Revs. Frank Whitaker and Charles Johnson officiating, with burial in Livingston Chapel Cemetery in Crane Hill.

Moss Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Murphree died Saturday, April 20 at the Folsom Center in Cullman. He was born in Blount County, Oct. 30, 1912 to John A. and Maude Battles Murphree. He was an Army veteran, serving in the Pacific during World War II. He was a member of Mt. Hope Baptist Church in Crane Hill.

He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Ira, Quincy, Ellard, Verbon and Wyatt Murphree; and one sister, Velma Murphree.

Survivors include his wife, Hattie Murphree of Cullman; a daughter, Jackie Kimball of Cullman; a son, Frank (Carol) Whitaker of Cherokee; three granddaughters, Jennifer Fata, Carla Brock and Mona Barbee; four great-grandsons; three sisters, Era Cooper and Violet Calvert of Cullman and Geneva Lankford of Hanceville.

Shelton Byrd

Memorial services for Shelton Byrd, 52, of Hayden will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 24, 2002 at Sulphur Springs Baptist Church in Hayden.

Williams-McCracken Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Byrd died Sunday, April 21 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born Jan. 26, 1950 in Birmingham to Grady M. and Delma E. Rodgers Byrd. He was in construction and was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include a son, Derek Albright of Hayden; and a sister, Shirley Sepeda of Eva.

Cleveland ‘C.V.’ Stevens

Services for Cleveland “C.V.” Stevens, 76, of Logan will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 23, 2002 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, with burial in the adjoining cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.

Nichols Funeral Home of Haleyville is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Stevens died Sunday, April 21 at his residence. He was born March 26, 1926 to Richard Henderson and Nancy Bell Ragsdale Stevens.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Seaborn Stevens; and granddaughter, Debbie Sue Stephens.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Ora Lee Burgess Stevens; a daughter, Linda Ann Stevens (Don) Stephens of Logan; a son, Mitchell Glenn (Diane Holloway) Stevens of Logan; four grandchildren, Sherry Stephens (Keith) Wynn, Donna Stephens (Barry) Cleghorn, Renetta Stevens (Steve) Price and Ricky Stevens; four great-grandchildren, Casey Wynn, Nick Wynn, Tandi Cleghorn and Alyssa Price ; three sisters, Maylon Stevens (Howard) Gardner, Zonnie Stevens Webster and Dona Stevens White, all of Cullman; a brother, Eldredge Stevens of Cullman; two sisters-in-law, Freda Humphrey Burgess and Evelyn Burgess Chappell, both of Cullman; a brother-in-law, Wayne Burgess; and two special friends, Zettie Atkison and Betty Burgess.

Pallbearers will be Justin Burgess, Ronald Stevens, Butch Hopper, Rickey Stevens, Robert Butler, Mitchell Stevens, Nick Wynn and Shannon Smith.

Honorable pallbearers will be Casey Wynn, Bill Butler, Keith Wynn, Barry Cleghorn and Steve Price .

Ellen Roberts Myers
Graveside services for Ellen Roberts Myers, 56, of Cullman will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 25, 2002 at Ebenezer Cemetery, the Rev. Dennis Trimble officiating.

Hanceville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Myers died Monday, April 22 at her residence. She was born Nov. 12, 1945 in Cullman to Doyle C. and Rachel Barnett Smith. She was a registered nurse.

She was preceded in death by her mother; and her brother, Larry Keith Smith.

Survivors include her father; a son, Brian Myers of Cullman; a daughter, Deborah Ellen Myers Kraft of New Orleans, La.; two granddaughters, Bethany and Amanda Myers; a nephew, Nathan Smith; and her stepmother, Dorothy Smith of Danville.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Dovie Irene Everett

Services for Dovie Irene Everett, 78, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 25, 2002 at Cullman Heritage Chapel, Jim Laney officiating, with burial in Zion Grove Cemetery.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Everett died Monday, April 22 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. She was born Aug. 9, 1923 in Clay County to Charlie H. and Lena Turner Hanners. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Shellow Sherman Everett; her daughter, Virginia Mae Everett; three brothers, Dee Hanners, Red Hanners and John Hanners; two sisters, Fannie Mae Harper and Ellie Hooper Shedd; and her parents.

Survivors include three sons, Shelton (Sue) Everett of Russellville, L.C. Everett of Cullman and Sherman (Jammie) Everett of Morris; a daughter, Brenda Carpenter of Cullman; a brother, Bill (Marie) Hanners; nine grandchildren, Paula Baker, LaRonna Elledge, Chad Everett, Jamie Carpenter, Josh Carpenter, Kevin Everett, Angela Johnson, Miranda Everett, and Monica Everett; and 10 great-grandchildren, Devin Herring, Keillian Carpenter, Noah Carpenter, Olivia Carpenter, Kayla Hancock, Zackary Hancock, Robin Johnson, Devin Everett, Destiny Everett, and Delana Everett.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m.

Macie Beck

Services for Macie Beck, 79, of Eva will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 25, 2002 at Peck Funeral Home Chapel, the Rev. Riley Collier and Albert Dean Estes officiating, with burial in Eva Cemetery.

Peck Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Beck died Monday, April 22 at her residence. She was born in Morgan County to Marlin Lesker and Lucy Irene Chaffin Holmes. She was a member of Daniel’s Chapel Missionary Baptist Church and was active in the Girl Scouts in Eva in the 1960s. She worked as a nurse’s aide at Summerford Nursing Home in Falkville.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Deon Beck; and two sons, Charles and Douglas Beck.

Survivors include two sons, Dale Beck of Eva, Jerry Beck of Hankamer, Texas; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be John Beck, Jason Beck, Jimmy Beck, Denis Holmes, Mike Holmes, Pat Holmes.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today.

James Leonard Whitworth Jr.
Services for James Leonard Whitworth Jr., 50, of Baileyton will be at 2 p.m. Friday, April 26, 2002 at Welcome Baptist Church, with burial in the church cemetery.

Williams-McCracken Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Whitworth died Friday, April 19 at his residence. He was born Nov. 1, 1951 in Cullman to James L. Sr. and Avonell Waldrep Whitworth. He worked in construction.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include three brothers, Joseph Hardin of New Hope, Herbert Whitworth of Bedford, Pa. and Glenn Whitworth of Atlanta, Ga.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today.
