Services for Edith Joy Baker are incomplete and will be announced at a later date by the funeral home.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Talmadge W. Hancock

Graveside services for Talmadge W. Hancock, 81, of Gadsden will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, 2001 at Ryan Creek Baptist Cemetery, the Rev. Carol Swan officiating.

Mickelsen McGee Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Hancock died Tuesday, Dec. 4 at McGuffy Nursing Home. He was born and raised in Cullman and lived in the Piedmont area for the last 40 years. He was a World War II veteran and a truck driver for 30 years.

Survivors include four daughters, Myris Sauls of Covington, Ga., Gloria Wood, Kim Cromer both of Piedmont, Nancy Browder of Rockrun; three sons, Randel Hancock of Sand Rock, Ronald Hancock of of Gadsden and Byron Hancock of Piedmont; four sisters, Mertie Ponder, Laura Williams, Volder Freeman and Ella Phillips; two brothers, Clarence Hancock and Alver Hancock; 19 grandchildren, Randy Hancock, Sam Hancock, Carolyn Hancock, Shelia Sauls, Shane Browder, Kevin Browder, Phillip Sauls, Brad Sauls, James Hancock, Amber Hancock, Drew Kirk, Savanha Kirk, Kirsta Grissom, Robyn Wood, Shaun Wood, Shena Cromer, Nicki Cromer, Andy Hancock and Bridgette Hulsey; and four great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons.

There will be no visitation.

Edward ‘Buddy’ Brock
Services for Edward “Buddy” Brock, 69, of Cullman were Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2001 at Williams-McCracken Chapel, the Revs. Curtis Cockran and Carlton Bates officiating, with burial in Bethsadia Cemetery.

Williams-McCracken Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Brock died Saturday, Dec. 8 at his residence. He was born Dec. 31, 1931 in Cullman County to Odis Franklin and Maudre Thomas Brock. He was a sheet metal worker and a veteran of the U.S. Army.

He was preceded in death by his father; his wife, Agnes Thompson Bates Brock; a son, Wallace Bates; and a sister, Ella Faye Doedtman.

Survivors include his mother, Maudre Brock Thomas Bates Brock of Cullman; three sons, Levi Brock and Dennis (Kathy) Bates, both of Cullman, and Dale (Judy) Bates of Dalton, Ga.; three daughters, Jan M. Brock and Beverly (Marlon) Bates, both of Cullman, and Shelda (Evon) Johnson of Bremen; two brothers, Bobby Brock of Cullman and Jimmy Brock of Hanceville; three sisters, Jean Brock of Cullman and Dean Fields and Freida Partain, both of South Carolina; and 11 grandchildren, Barry Johnson, Kim Johnson, Russel Johnson, Randy Bates, Evelyn Brown, Keith Bates, Cristie Bates Jammie Bates, Leslie Bates, Jeremy Bates and Lindsey Bates.

Visitation was Monday.

Marion ‘Mutt’ McElroy

Services for Marion “Mutt” McElroy, 86, of Hanceville will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 14, 2001 at Hanceville Funeral Chapel, the Revs. Tom Hammons and Marvin Bryan officiating, with burial in Hopewell Cemetery.

Hanceville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. McElroy died Tuesday, Dec. 11 at Woodland Medical Center. He was born on Dec. 17, 1914 in Alabama to Virgil and Oma Trucks McElroy.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Ora Graves McElroy of Hanceville; two daughters, Becke Quick and Ronnie (Doyle) Crocker, both of Hanceville; three sisters, Ruth Ziegenbein and Frances Collier, both of Hanceville and Sue Snyder of Decatur; four grandchildren, Regina Quick, Rhonda Quick, Jeff (Tammy) Crocker, Tony (Sabina) Crocker; four great-grandchildren, Jennifer, Zac and Ross Crocker, Brandy Hunter.

Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. today.

Clara Odell Gilliland

Graveside services for Clara Odell Gilliland, 74, of Crane Hill will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 14, 2001 at Tabernacle Methodist Cemetery in Locust Fork, the Rev. Ron Gilbreath officiating.

Hanceville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Gilliland died Wednesday, Dec. 12 in Cullman. She was born in Locust Fork on Feb. 9, 1927 to Homer and Lois Self Fowler. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her husband, Gordon Gilliland of Crane Hill; a daughter, Veronia Morris of Crane Hill; a brother, Louie Fowler of Gardendale; a sister, Opal Hays of Trafford; two grandchildren, Clint Morris III of Cullman and Juli Robinson of Crane Hill; and a great-grandchild, Riley Robinson.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Clessie Jane Calvert

Services for Clessie Jane Calvert, 75, of Crane Hill will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, 2001 at Bethany Baptist Church, the Revs. Tim Davis and Ron Gilbreath officiating, with burial in Bethany Cemetery.

Hanceville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Calvert died Tuesday, Dec. 11 in Birmingham. She was born in Cullman County on July 25, 1926 to George M. and Roxie Abbott Burrow. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Ovel Calvert.

Survivors include two sons, Daryl Wayne Calvert and Steve (Robbie) Calvert, both of Crane Hill; four sisters, Christine Calvert and Stella Mauldin, both of Crane Hill, Doris Short of Jasper and Joana Waldrep of Hartselle; six grandchidren; and one great-grandchild.

Visitation was Wednesday.

Ogle Campbell

Services for Ogle Campbell, 84, of Crane Hill will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14, 2001 at Bethany Baptist Church, the Rev. Tim Davis and Milt Hill officiating, with burial in Bethany Cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.

Hanceville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Campbell died Wednesday, Dec. 12 at Carraway Methodist Medical Center. He was born in Crane Hill on Sept. 2, 1917 to Arm and Vassie Eady Campbell. He was a dock worker and a veteran of the U.S. Army.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Wanda Hipp; a sister, Eneva Trimble; and three brothers, Felton Campbell, Astor Campbell and Chesley Campbell.

Survivors include his wife, Oleta Campbell of Crane Hill; a son, Raymond (Frances) Campbell of Crane Hill; two daughters, Zelda (George) Phillips and Modene (Donald) Stricklin, both of Bremen; two brothers, Doyle (Coleen) Campbell and Vernon (Vermell) Campbell, both of Crane Hill; 12 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Thornton Chase Lowe

Thornton Chase Lowe, 76, of Dodge City died Thursday, Dec. 6, 2001 at Cullman Regional Medical Center.

He was born March 15, 1925 to Thornton M. and Jeanne E. Chase Lowe. He graduated from York High School in Elmhurst, Ill. in 1943. He then served in the U.S. Navy until 1946. He married Joyce Marie Fleming in 1949 and graduated from Lawrence University in Appleton, Wis. in 1950. He was manager of DuPage Service Company, active in municipal government and retired from Fleming Sales, Inc. in Chicago in 1990.

He will be buried next to his wife in Arlington Cemetery in Elmhurst, Ill. on Jan. 12, 2002.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Marie Lowe.

Survivors include his brother, John A. Lowe of Kauai, Hawaii; his daughter, Joyce Ann; three sons, Matthew (Lucinda) Lowe, Martin (Mary Ann) Lowe, both of Elkhart, Ind. and Murray (Phylliss) Lowe of Dodge City; and eight grandchildren, Gina, Ashley, Betsy, Jean, Christine, William, Anthony, Robert and Scott.

In lieu of flowers, contributions to the American Diabetes Foundation would be a grateful tribute.

Richard Earl Hulsey

Services for Richard Earl Hulsey, 68, of Vernon will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14, 2001 at Chandler Funeral Chapel in Vernon, Doug Thompson and James Waldon officiating, with burial in Walnut Grove Cemetery of Millport.

Chandler Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Hulsey died Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2001 at his residence. He was born May 30, 1933 in Alabama to Ira Lymon and Margie Lucille Brier Hulsey. He was a level 78 asbestos worker and a veteran of the U.S. Army.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Stanley Hulsey of Vernon; two sons, Richard L. (Tina) Hulsey of Ft. Mitchell and Kevin Ray Hulsey of Cullman; three daughters, Denise (Randy) Holmes and DeAnn McDonald, both of Cullman and Connie (Bobby) Tibbles of Huntsville; a brother, Roy (June) Hulsey of Kearney, Neb.; a sister, Hazel Young of Cullman; eight grandchildren, Brett McDonald, Derek McDonald, Corey Holmes, all of Cullman, Alyssa Tibbles, Dalton Tibbles, Hunter Tibbles and Christian Tibbles, all of Huntsville, and Nathaniel Hulsey of Ft. Mitchell; and nine great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
