Willis Albert Baty
Services for Willis Albert Baty, 63, of Arkadelphia will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 29, 2002 at Valley View Baptist Church, the Rev. Marvin Clemons officiating, with burial in the church cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.

Moss Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Baty died Monday, May 27 at St. Vincent’s Hospital. He was born Sept. 29, 1938. He was a supervisor at Ornamental Iron.

He was preceded in death by his father, Albert Baty.

Survivors include his wife, Tyrone Swann Baty of Arkadelphia; two sons, Timothy W. Baty and Adam L. Baty, both of Arkadelphia; his mother, Exie H. Baty; four brothers, Howard (Izola) Baty, Heril Baty, Malcolm (Ruth) Baty, Leon (Gail) Baty; and six sisters, Earlene (Houston) Bankston, Kay (Thomas) White, Mildred Davis, Emogene Wisener, Merle (Sam) Baruch and Becky Way.

Visitation was Tuesday.

James White

James White, 73, of Cullman died Tuesday, May 28, 2002.

Moss Service Funeral Home will announce arrangements.

Clarence Knops

Services for Clarence Knops, 80, of Holly Pond will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 29, 2002 at Holly Pond Funeral Home Chapel, the Rev. F.H. Cline officiating, with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery in Oneonta.

Holly Pond Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Knops died Sunday, May 26 at Hanceville Nursing Home. He was born June 3, 1921 in Blount County to Will and Bessie Mae Watson Knops. He was a heavy machine operator for the mining industry.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Nathan Knops; three brothers, Frank, Garrett and Wiley Knops; a sister, Annie Rean; and two grandchildren.

Survivors include his sister, Jo (Allen) Spencer of Birmingham; three nieces and nephews; and three special friends, Betty and Dwight Ray, Tina Miller, and Julie Ray, all of Holly Pond.

Kenneth Wesley Coleman Sr.

Services for Kenneth Wesley Coleman Sr., 48, Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 30, 2002 at Williams-McCracken Chapel with burial in Good Hope Cemetery.

Williams-McCracken Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Coleman died Tuesday, May 28 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born in Jefferson County on July 22, 1953 to George P. and Rosetta Chandler Coleman. He worked in construction.

He was preceded in death by his father; a daughter, Belinda Coleman; and a brother, Billy Earl Coleman.

Survivors include his mother; wife, Lila Guthrie Coleman of Cullman; three sons, Ken Franklyn (Heidi) Coleman, Wesley (Cody) Coleman Jr., Billy (Marsha) Price ; three daughters, Angela Coleman (Jesus) Delgodo, Adrian Solomon, Connie (Gary) Sterling; two brothers, Frank (Diane) Coleman, Steven Coleman; two sisters, Linda (Billy) Davis, Vera Coleman; and eight grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today.

Bernard ‘Jack’ Nunnelley

Services for Bernard “Jack” Nunnelley, 79, of Eva will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 29, 2002 at Williams-McCracken Chapel, the Rev. Albert Dean Estes officiating, with burial in Etha Baptist Cemetery.

Williams-McCracken Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Nunnelley died Monday, May 27 at Woodland Medical Center. He was born Nov. 5, 1922 in Cullman to Billy McDonald and Lillian Jones Nunnelley. He was a fire controller for the U.S. Government. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Mozelle Holdbrook, Mary Linskey; and his brother, Benny Nunnelley.

Survivors include his wife, Mable Patton Nunnelley of Eva; a son, Danny Lynn Nunnelley of Eva; a daughter, Donna Kay (Clint) Stone of Baileyton; and four sisters, Louise Hunter, Helen Brindley and Geraldean Buckelew, all of Baileyton, and Onida Hall of Atlanta, Ga.

Visitation was Tuesday.

Steve Copeland

Memorial services for Steve Copeland, 45, of Naples, Fla. will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 30, 2002 at New Hope Ministries in Florida, the Rev. Grant Thigpen officiating.

Hodges Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Copeland died Sunday, May 26. He was born in Hartselle. He was a contracts manager for the city of Naples and a member of New Hope Ministries.

Survivors include his wife of 25 years, Debbie Copeland of Naples, Fla.; his father and stepmother, Bud and Jean Copeland of Alabama; his son, Ben (Alicia) Copeland; a grandson, Matthew; and his daughter, Kori, all of Naples; two brothers, Greg and Randy Copeland of Naples; and two sisters, Debbie of Naples and Shari of Alabama.

James R. White
Services for James R. White, 73, of Cullman will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 30, 2002 at Moss Service Chapel, Dr. Phillip D. Young officiating, with burial in Cullman City Cemetery.

Moss Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. White died Tuesday, May 28 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born Jan. 29, 1929 to James G. and Eulalah McClendon White. He was a license inspector for the city of Cullman for 46 years. He also served in the U.S. Air Force and was a graduate of St. Bernard College.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Wynelle White; and his sister, Marie Stitt.

Survivors include a daughter, Pamela (David) Smith of Clanton; a brother, Bobby White of Cullman; a sister, Rosa Faye Montgomery of Decatur; a grandson, James Allen Smith of Clanton; seven nieces; and four nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society.

Visitation was Wednesday.

Billy Ray Coggins

Services for Billy Ray Coggins, 67, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 30, 2002 at Moss Service Chapel, the Rev. Ellis Leverett officiating, with burial in Bethlehem West Cemetery.

Moss Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Coggins died Wednesday, May 29 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born May 25, 1935 to William and Mildred Rainey Coggins. He was a salesman at South Park Auto Sales for over 40 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, JoAnn Swafford; and his brother, Jerry Wayne Coggins.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley Woodard Coggins; four sons, Joey (Sherri) Coggins, Delane (Reda) Coggins, Kenneth (Samantha) Coggins and Keith (Tracy) Coggins; two brothers, Dwight Junior Coggins and Johnny Michael Coggins; and nine grandchildren.

Visitation was Wednesday.

Marshall R. Smithson

Services for Marshall R. Smithson, 87, of Gardendale will be at 2 p.m. Friday, May 31, 2002 at Cullman Heritage Chapel, the Rev. Steve Rodgers officiating, with burial in Corinth West Cemetery.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Smithson died Tuesday, May 28 at Woodland Village Health Care. He was born July 16, 1914 in Morgan County.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank R. and Sannie Lorance Smithson; his wife, Essie Smithson; and his son, W. Haskell Smithson.

Survivors include his daughter, Carolyn S. Crane of Birmingham; three sons, F. Drennon Smithson Sr. of Vinemont, Gerry M. Smithson of Limestone County and Michael D. Smithson of Gardendale; a sister, Lillian Burnham of Battleground; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Debbie Louise Miller
Services for Debbie Louise Miller, 48, of Jonesborough, Tenn. will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, June 1, 2002 at Moss Service Chapel, the Rev. Wayne Vincent officiating, with burial in Central Baptist Church Cemetery.

Moss Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Miller died Wednesday, May 29 in Tennessee. She was born Jan. 29, 1954. She worked at Greystone Healthcare Center in Blountville, Tenn.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Hattie Hollis Gibson.

Survivors include her husband, Earnest Wayne Miller; a daughter, Debbie Miranda Holden of Jonesborough, Tenn.; a brother, Wayne Gibson of Cullman; a sister, Diana Vaughn of Cullman; and three grandchildren, Blake, Brittany and Brandon Holden, all of Jonesborough, Tenn.

Pallbearers will be friends of the family.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.

Sue Scott

Services for Sue Scott, 77, of Cullman will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 1, 2002 at Williams-McCracken Chapel, Dr. William Burkette officiating, with burial in Ebenezer Cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.

Williams-McCracken Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Scott died Wednesday, May 29 at Baptist Medical Center Montclair in Birmingham. She was born March 5, 1926 in Cullman. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Elon Bryan Wilkins; and nine sisters and brothers.

Survivors include her husband, Auben F. Scott of Cullman; two sons, Barron F. (Jan) Scott and Major Jonathan G. (Susan) Scott; a daughter, Sandra (Larry) Hicks; two brothers, Ralph Wilkins and C.E. Wilkins; two sisters, Bessie Wright and Lila Driver; eight grandchildren, Elizabeth May, Christopher Hicks, Jonathan Scott Jr., Auben Scott, Nathan Scott, Kirk Hicks, Elam Scott, and Wyatt Scott; and two great-grandchildren, Dustin Hicks and David May.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today.

Wayne Thompson

Memorial services for Wayne Thompson, 57, of Addison will be at 11 a.m. Friday, May 31, 2002 at Nichols Chapel, Ray Key and Tom Farris officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Abbey West Cemetery in Savannah, Ga. with a graveside service at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 1

Mr. Thompson died Tuesday, May 28.

He is survived by a son, Scott Thompson of Bredenton, Fla.; two grandchildren; his mother, Ida L. Thompson of Port Wentworth, Ga.; a brother, Thomas C. Thompson of Garden City, Ga.; and two sisters, Tammy L. Crews and Tracy S. Clack of Leesburg, Ga.
