Pearl Mae Grissom

Funeral services for Pearl Mae Grissom, 85, are at 3 p.m. Monday, March 31, 2003 at Cullman Heritate Funeral Home; Jim Abbott officiating, with burial in Mt. Zion Cemetery.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Grissom died Saturday, March 29 at her residence. She was born July 3, 1917 in Blount County to Robert and Georgia Kent Waddle Lee. She was a retired dietician with the Cullman County Board of Education.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William Sawtell Grissom; a son, Charlie Gilbert Grissom; and six brothers, Charlie Waddle, George Waddle, Monroe Waddle, Louie Waddle, Ellis Waddle and Carl Waddle.

Survivors include two sons, Ricky (Jan) Grissom of Madison and Marvin (Grace) Grissom of California; her daughter, JoAnn (Larry) Shaw of Cullman; a brother, Joe Waddle of Lake Wales, Fla.; a daughter-in-law, Carolyn Grissom of Cullman; 12 grandchildren, Kelly (Bryan) Smith, Michael (Kim) Yarbrough, Wade (Angie) Yarbrough; Julie Grissom, Robert Grissom, Shannon (Michael) Baty, Linda Ramsey, George Ramsey, Russell Ramsey, Leslie Pack, Shannon Shaw and Glenda Kramer; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Visitation is 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Patricia Ann Guthrie
Graveside services for Patricia Ann Guthrie, 59, of Birmingham will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 1, 2003 at Emeus Cemetery, Bill Partridge officiating.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Guthrie died Sunday, March 30 in Birmingham. She was born June 15, 1943 in Logan. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Mae Cook Guthrie.

Survivors include her father, Berlia B. Guthrie of Brookside; her stepmother, Johnnie Guthrie of Brookside; and two sisters, Wanda Jean Crowder of Bessemer and Janice Carol Decoursey of Cartersville, Ga.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at the funeral home.

James Wesley ‘Buddy’ Graves

Funeral services for James Wesley “Buddy” Graves, 67, of Hanceville will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 2, 2003 at Moss Funeral Chapel, Nathan Green officiating, with burial in Oak Level Cemetery.

Moss Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Graves died Monday, March 31 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born Jan. 3, 1936 to John Edward and Dessie Lee Weeks Graves. He was a heavy machine and crane operator for Apel Machine and Supply.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include include his wife, Peggy Johnson Graves; two sons, James Anthony Graves and Donald Wayne Graves; a brother, Billy Connell; six sisters, Louise Schiehl, Betty McGaugh, Linda Wilson, Janice Hancock, Paula Martin and Shirley Church; and five grandchildren, Charlotte Graves, Jo Jo Graves, David Niles, Megan Niles and Trevor Graves.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today.

Herman Ardis Clark

Funeral services for Herman Ardis Clark, 72, of Cullman were Monday, March 31, 2003 at Chances Crossroads Church of Christ at Jones Chapel, Quinton McKay and Allen Yeater officiating, with burial in the church cemetery.

Williams-McCracken Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Clark died Saturday, March 29 at Montclair Baptist Medical Center. He was born May 8, 1930 to William Benhamin and Ollie Mae Smith Clark. He was a poultry farmer.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Robert Clark, Walter Clark and Roy Clark; and two sisters, Christine Whisenhunt and Annie Bell Evans.

Survivors include his wife, Wanda A. McKeel Clark; a son, David (Delores) Clark of Cullman; two daughters, Lora Clark and Alicia Clark of Cullman; three brothers, Marvin Clark of Detroit, Mich., Willard Clark and Dwight Clark of Cullman; three sisters, Ollie Mae Smith and Hazel Tucker of Cullman and Marie Axt of Warren, Mich.; and two grandsons, Dave and Daniel Clark of Cullman.

Visitation was Sunday.

Fred Aron Cooper

Funeral services for Fred Aron Cooper, 21, of Hanceville will be at noon Wednesday, April 2, 2003 at Hanceville Funeral Chapel, with burial in Hopewell Cemetery.

Hanceville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Cooper died Saturday, March 29 in Birmingham. He was born on Feb. 9, 1982 in Baton Rouge, La. to Melvin and Stella Stanley Cooper.

Survivors include his parents; two brothers, Melvin Cooper and Oney Cooper of Hanceville; his grandparents, Oney and Opal Cooper of Homer, Ind. and Leonard Stanley of Prarieville, La.; two nephews, Oney Cooper Jr. and Zack Cooper; and two nieces, Lexie Cooper and Tillie Cooper.

Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Herman Samuel Martin

Funeral services for Herman Samuel Martin, 88, of Holly Pond will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 2, 2003 at Holly Pond Funeral Chapel, the Rev. Ralph McGowan and Guy Hunt officiating, with burial in Holly Pond Cemetery.

Holly Pond Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Martin died Sunday, March 30 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born Aug. 11, 1914 in Cullman County to Ernest and Vasslee Crumbley Martin. He was a farmer and retired postal carrier. He was a member of Holly Pond First Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Scottie McGriff Martin of Holly Pond; two sons, Quentin “Buck” (Elizabeth) Martin and Kenneth (Martha) Martin, both of Holly Pond; a daughter, Juanita Martin Hipp of Blountsville; three brothers, Millard, Wayne and John David Martin of Birmingham; a sister, Valerie Jacobs of Birmingham; 13 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

James Milton Hopper

Funeral services for James Milton Hopper of Florence will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 2, 2003 at Elkins Funeral Home, Drs. Jack Wilhelm and Bill Bagents officiating, with a 2:30 p.m. graveside service at Jones Chapel Cemetery.

Elkins Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Hopper died Sunday, March 30 at Eliza Coffee Memorial Hospital. He was a former resident of Cullman County and had lived in the Shoals area since 1957. He was a member of Mars Hill Church of Christ where he had served as an adult teacher of Bible classes. He was a graduate of Arkansas State University and had been a teacher, coach and principal in the Cullman County school system before joining Ford Motor Company for many years before retiring. He was a veteran of World War II.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar Eli and Naomi Catherine Hopper of Cullman; and two brothers, Kenneth Eugene Hopper of Garden City, Mich. and William Everett Hopper of Lake Park, Ga.

Survivors include his wife, Flora Mae Hopper; two sons, Jerry Randall (Becky) Hopper and Gary Richard (Donna) Hopper of Huntsville; four grandchildren, James Randall (Stephanie) Hopper, Jason Kretzer (Jamie) Hopper, both of Birmingham and Garrison Wesley Hopper and Whitney Lynn Hopper of Huntsville; two great-grandsons, Jacob Randall Hopper and James Cody Hopper, both of Birmingham; a brother, Herbert A. (Sybil) Hopper of Birmingham; a sister, Helen (J.C.) Wallace of Cullman; and an aunt, Vivian Hale of Cullman.

Pallbearers will be grandsons, James Randall Hopper, Jason Kretzer Hopper, Wesley Garrison Hopper; nephew, Phillip Wallace; and friends, Kenneth Austin and Travis Hill.

Honorary pallbearers will be the elders at Mars Hill Church of Christ.

Memorials may be made to the Heritage Christian University of Florence.

Visitation will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Iva Cleghorn

Funeral services for Iva Cleghorn of Arley will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 2, 2003 at Liberty Baptist Church, Patrick Cleghorn, Ellis Wilkins and Chris Godbee officiating, with burial in the church cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.

Nichols Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Cleghorn died Sunday, March 30 at her residence.

Survivors include her husband, Robert O. Cleghorn of Arley; a son, Evan D. (Hazel) Cleghorn of Michigan; five sisters, Redie Evans of Vinemont, Arvie Wood of Pelham, Hazel Godbee and Cleon Powell of Addison and Faye Bodine of Gasden; a brother, Victor Denson of Addison; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Delma Louise âTiny’ Stidham
Funeral services for Delma Louise “Tiny” Stidham, 68, of the Duck River Community were Monday, March 31, 2003 at Duck River Baptist Church, the Revs. Andrew Chambers, J.W. Dial and Kenneth Little officiating, with burial in Duck River Cemetery.

Holly Pond Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Stidham died Saturday, March 29 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. She was born Sept. 30, 1934 to William Jesse and Lillian Adora Stidham Smith. She was a homemaker and a member of Plainview Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Velma Smith; and two brothers, William Boyd and Charles Burl Smith.

Survivors include her husband, the Rev. William E. “Bunk” Stidham of Duck River community; a son, Danny (Martha) William Stidham of Cullman; three daughters, Rhonda (David) Leathers of Cullman, Renay (Steve) Bullard of Arab and Leeann Stidham of Houston, Texas; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and three brothers, Vernon Smith, Walter Smith and Jerrell Smith.

Visitation was Sunday.

Lolan Don Alexander

Funeral services for Lolan Don Alexander, 68, of Jasper will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 3, 2003 at Hanceville Funeral Chapel, John Gaines and Ed Goforth of Mt. Vernon and the Rev. J.B. Thompson of Jasper officiating, with burial in Hopewell Cemetery.

Hanceville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Alexander died Tuesday, April 1 at his residence. He was a former resident of Gardendale for 30 years. He served in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1958, then joined the active Reserve from 1958 to 1960. He was in the Alabama National Guard from 1960 through 1967. He retired from CSX Railroad and Central of Georgia Railroad after 35 years of employment. He was a member of Local 178, Brotherhood of Signalmen, Mt. Vernon Baptist Church of Curry, and was an ordained deacon.

He was preceded in death by a son, Philip Don Alexander; his father, John Henry Alexander; and his father-in-law, Thurston E. Taylor of Jasper.

Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Peggy Taylor Alexander of Jasper; two daughters, Cynthia “Cindy” (Fred) Drake of Cartersville, Ga. and Amynda “Amy” Lynnea Alexander of Gardendale; a son, Scott Cummings of Gardendale; a grandson, Taylor Drake of Cartersville, Ga.; a granddaughter, Emily Drake of Cartersville, Ga.; his mother, Laura Elliott Alexander of Hanceville; a sister, Fay Alexander Parker of Cullman; his mother-in-law, Mary Ellen Capps of Gardendale; two nieces; two nephews; and three great-nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Joseph Bruno Cancer Center at St. Vincent’s Hospital, 810 St. Vincent’s Drive, Birmingham, Ala. 35205, or the Mt. Vernon Baptist Church building fund in Curry.

Pallbearers will be the Local 178 members.

Visitation will be from 4:30 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Florence S. Teasley

Funeral services for Florence S. Teasley, 72, of Cullman will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 3, 2003 at Moss Service Chapel, with burial in Cullman City Cemetery.

Moss Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Teasley died Monday, March 31 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. She was born Nov. 7, 1930 to Walter and Mamie Schaffer Schnur. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, I.B. Teasley; her parents; four brothers, Frank, Richard, Isadore and Lawrence Schnur; and three sisters, Catherine Schnur, Margaret White and Macbertta Schute.

Survivors include a stepson, Bill (Donna) Teasley; a daughter, Jo Etta (Bill) Wilt; a stepdaughter, Mary (Eddie) Norton; a brother, Ralph Schnur; a sister, Mary Van Horn; one grandchild; six step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and six step-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 5:30 to 9 p.m. today with a rosary at 7:30 p.m.
