Linda Renee Wagner

Services for Linda Renee Wagner, 43, of Cullman will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday, April 19, 2002 at Cullman Heritage Chapel, the Rev. Steve Rodgers officiating, with burial in Baldwin Heights Baptist Church Cemetery.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Wagner died Tuesday, April 16. She was born Nov. 5, 1958 in Cullman County to Junior Lee Joel and Etta Fay Meigs Sellers of Cullman. She was a shift leader at Pizza Hut.

Survivors include her husband, Dennis E. Wagner of Cullman; her parents; three sons, Jason Edward Wagner, Jessie Wayne Wagner and Lee Ernest Wagner of Cullman; a daughter, Leslie Renee Wagner of Crane Hill; two brothers, Ricky (Lisa) Sellers of Cullman and Wade (Debra) Sellers of Hanceville; and one grandchild.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Herald ‘Babe’ Calvert
Services for Herald “Babe” Calvert, 90, of Logan will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 20, 2002 at Williams-McCracken Chapel, Kent Persall and Sonny Tucker officiating, with burial in Prospect Church of Christ Cemetery.

Williams-McCracken Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Calvert died Thursday, April 18 at Woodland Medical Center. He was born in Cullman on Nov. 4, 1911 to Cicero Clements and Amy Sinyard Calvert. He was a farmer.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Myirl Calvert of Logan; two daughters, Hilda Jones of Logan, Carolyn Hayes of Talladega; three grandchildren; and on great-grandchild.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today.

Ruth Griffith Bennett

Services for Ruth Griffith Bennett, 74, of Falkville will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 20 at Pattillo Street Church of God, the Revs. Jerry Irwin and John Elliott officiating, with burial in Mount Zion Cemetery.

Peck Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Bennett died Thursday, April 18 at her residence. She was born in Morgan County on July 28, 1927 to John A. and Mary Elizabeth Williams Griffith. She was a member of the Pattillo Street Church of God where she taught children’s Sunday school for about 50 years. She worked for Quaker Oats Company in Decatur for 10 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Zilphfer W. Bennett; and two sisters, Mildred Wilborn, Catherine Hodges.

Survivors include three sons, Joel Bennett, Steve Bennett both of Falkville, Garry Bennett of Hartselle; two daughters, Joan Robinson of Hartselle, Reba Burch of Elkmont; three brothers, Charlie Griffith, John Jr. Griffith, Ed Griffith all of Hartselle; four sisters, Geneva Griffith, Dorothy Partain, Louise Waddell all of Hartselle, Jessie Hill of Falkville; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be grandsons and great-grandson.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Betty Wilhite Walker

Services for Betty Wilhite Walker, 72, of Falkville will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 20, 2002 at Peck Funeral Home Chapel, the Revs. Terry Nappier, Jim Henderson and David Hooks officiating, with burial in Burningtree Memorial Gardens.

Peck Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Walker died Wednesday, April 17 at Summerford Nursing Home. She was born April 14, 1930 in Morgan County to James Alford and Audrey Augusta Tucker Wilhite. She was retired from Community Bank in Falkville after 29 years of service. She was a member of Piney Grove Christian Church and the Gideon Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her husband, Leonard B. Walker of Falkville; three sons, James L. Walker of Decatur, Ronald L. Walker and Donald G. Walker, both of Falkville; two brothers, Paul Wilhite of Falkville and Earl Wilhite of Hartselle; and two sisters, Stella Legg and Opal Nesmith, both of Falkville.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Ethalene Trapp Rhodes
Services for Ethalene Trapp Rhodes, 74, of Hanceville will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 21, 2002 at Mount Joy Baptist Church, the Revs. Richard Bailey and Donald Abbott officiating, with burial in Mt. Joy Cemetery in Bremen.

Hanceville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Rhodes died Thursday, April 18. She was born in Cullman on July 17, 1927 to Samuel and Della Wise Trapp. She was a homemaker. She was married to the late Loyd Rhodes.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Dewayne Rhodes; and brother, Avery Trapp.

Survivors include three daughters, Brenda Evans, Lenda (Pete) Whaley both of Hanceville, Hilda (Terry) Goodwin of Dodge City; daughter-in-law, Jamie Rhodes of Arkadelphia; sister, Christine (Billy) McClendon of Sipsey; two brothers, Herschel Trapp of Cullman, Johnny (Margie) Trapp of Alexander City; eight grandchildren, Cliff Evans, Jamie (Ashley) Whaley both of Hanceville, Timothy Goodwin of Dodge City, Sylvia (Marc) Kennedy of Warrior, Angela (Nick) Milonpoules of Cullman; Jeff (Pam) Whaley, Brittney Rhodes, Brandon Rhodes all of Arkadelphia; and four great-grandchildren, Josh Davis, Brandon Whaley, Kaleigh Kennedy, Ty Whaley.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Loyd ‘Hambone’ Rhodes

Services for Loyd “Hambone” Rhodes, 76, of Hanceville will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 21, 2002 at Mount Joy Baptist Church, the Revs. Richard Bailey and Donald Abbot officiating, with burial in Mt. Joy Cemetery in Bremen.

Hanceville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Rhodes died Friday, April 19. He was born in Cullman County on Oct. 10, 1925 to Ansel and Ludie Dollar Rhodes. He was a coal miner.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ethalene Trapp Rhodes; son, Dewayne Rhodes; three brothers, Cordis Rhodes, Curt Rhodes, Bill Rhodes; and three sisters, Florence Campbell, Murtle McLeroy, Eunice Dees.

Survivors include three daughters, Brenda Evans, Lenda (Pete) Whaley both of Hanceville, Hilda (Terry) Goodwin of Dodge City; daughter-in-law, Jamie Rhodes of Arkadelphia; sister, Mutt (Arlis) Aaron; eight grandchildren, Cliff Evans, Jamie (Ashley) Whaley both of Hanceville, Timothy Goodwin of Dodge City, Sylvia (Marc) Kennedy of Warrior, Angela (Nick) Milonpoules of Cullman; Jeff (Pam) Whaley, Brittney Rhodes, Brandon Rhodes all of Arkadelphia; four great-grandchildren, Josh Davis, Brandon Whaley, Kaleigh Kennedy, Ty Whaley; sister-in-law, Ethel Rhodes; and brother-in-law, Ollie Campbell.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Winnie Ruth Easterwood

Services for Winnie Ruth Easterwood, 69, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 21, 2002 at Cullman Heritage Chapel, Jerry Lawson officiating, with burial in Springhill Cemetery.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Easterwood died Thursday, April 18 at Crestwood Medical Center. She was born Oct. 1, 1932 in Cullman County to Herbert Manual and Icie Speegle Johns. She was a retired dietician for Woodland Hospital.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bascom Easterwood; and her brother, Henry Alton Johns.

Survivors include two sons, Dale (Linda) Easterwood and Gene (Cheryl) Easterwood of Cullman; two daughters, Lila Easterwood of Cullman and Carol Easterwood of Decatur; four brothers, Darrell (Joyce) Johns, Samuel (Mary) Johns and Nelson (Judy) Johns of Cullman and Benford Johns of Huntsville; a sister, Vonnie Nesmith of Gardendale; and four grandchildren, Stephnie Easterwood, Stacy Easterwood, Michael Easterwood and Matthew Easterwood.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Charles Douglas Hesterley

Services for Charles Douglas Hesterley, 65, of Gardendale were Friday, April 19, 2002 at Walker Chapel Funeral Home, Zelma Parillo and Charles Wagner officiating, with burial in Oakwood Memorial Gardens.

Walker Chapel Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Hesterley died Wednesday, April 17 at his residence. He retired from Frito Lay, Inc. after 41 years. He was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.

Survivors include his wife, Marilyn C. Hesterley of Gardendale; his mother, Eva Hesterley of Welti; two daughters, Amy Hesterley and Dawn H. Brennan, both of Birmingham; special niece, Renae Roberts and son Jake of Chattanooga, Tenn.; a sister, Alice (Ulyess) Stewart of Hanceville; a brother, John (Wynell) Hesterley of Cullman; a granddaughter, Caitlin Brennan of Birmingham; three step-children, Connie (Brad) Cleveland of Chelsea, Hewey (Stephanie) Lawson and Regina (Chris) Coppage, both of Fultondale; and five step-grandchildren, Rachael Pennington, Rebecca Pennington, Kameron Kennedy, Andi Lawson, and Luke Lawson.

Pallbearers were Troy Perry, Eric Milton, Ken Pritchette, Olan Turnipseed, Glen Shepherd and Robert Reeves.

Alternate pallbearers were Phil Parrett and Henry Vickers.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to American Cancer Society and/or Unity Hospice, 2154 Highland Ave., Birmingham, 35205.

Visitation was Thursday.

Thomas Ira Phillips
Services for Thomas Ira Phillips, 74, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 21, 2002 at Zion Grove Baptist Church, the Rev. Brad Hadley officiating, with burial in Holly Pond Cemetery.

Holly Pond Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Phillips died Friday, April 19 at Beverly Healthcare in Arab. He was born March 8, 1928 to A.A. and Bertha Mitchell Phillips. He was retired from the U.S. Navy and had a long-time affiliation with Zion Grove Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Alfred A. Phillips, Wendell Phillips, Billy Phillips, Eugene Wright, Calvin Phillips; and sister, Barbara Phillips.

Survivors include one brother, Aaron Phillips of Arab; and two sisters, Sarah Claburn of Madison, Cinda Williams of Somerville.

Visitation was Saturday.

Mildred B. Williams

Services for Mildred B. Williams, 77, of Cullman will be at 11 a.m. Monday, April 22 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Harold Hermetz officiating, with burial in Holly Pond Cemetery.

Williams-McCracken Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Williams died Saturday, April 20 at Hanceville Nursing Home. She was born Nov. 25, 1924 to Albert N. and Allie B. Cornelius Bailey. She was retired from a 35-year career as a registered nurse. She worked at University Hospital in Birmingham, Hartselle Hospital, Cullman Hospital and Cullman Nursing Home. She also served as director of nursing at Doctor’s Hospital in Cullman, now known as Woodland Medical Center. She was a member of the Alabama State Nurses Association and the National League for Nursing Professional. Other professional organizations Mrs. Williams belonged to include: ASNA District No. 9, president of Cullman County Society; chairwoman of Medical Advisory Board to Home Health Agency; chairwoman of Cullman County RN Society and board of directors chairwoman; and a member of the County by-laws committee and district board president.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her son, Frank Williams Jr. of Cullman; three daughters, Josephine V. Basden of Birmingham, Julia L. Chen of Tampa, Fla., A. Francine Garland of Hanceville; brother, Earney Bailey of Cullman; and eight grandchildren, Carson and Mary Beth Williams, Derek and Dustin Basden, Raven Lee, Brian and Auston Chen; and Sara Garland.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church or School.

Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. today.

Randall Lee Smith

Services for Randall Lee Smith, 42, of Addison will be at 2 p.m. Monday, April 22, 2002 at Sardis Baptist Church No. 2, David Miller and William McClellan officiating, with burial in the adjoining cemetery.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Smith died Friday, April 19. He was born in Cullman on June 8, 1959. He was a surgical technician for Dr. Berquist. He was a Boy Scout Scoutmaster, a deacon at Sardis Baptist Church No. 2 and a children’s church director. He was a member of the U.S. Army and National Guard.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Annie Smith and Florence and Troy Dowda; brother, Bobby Joe Smith; and sister, Sherry Ellen Smith.

Survivors include his wife, Suzette Sterling Smith of Addison; parents, Edna and William Carroll of Hanceville, Pete and Peggy Smith of Odenville; two daughters, Savannah Smith, Kathryn Smith; and three sisters, Dana Swindle, Tina (Kenneth) Miller, Rita (Dale) Presto all of Hanceville.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today.
