Mrs. Susie Miller Jackson, 85, of Ozark died early Tuesday morning, Sept. 10, 2002, at her home following an extended illness.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday from Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church with. the Rev. Gene Warren and the Rev. Joe Underwood officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. The body will be placed in the church one hour before service time Thursday.
Mrs. Jackson was a native and lifelong resident of Dale County a homemaker, and an active member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church.
Her son, David Alvin Jackson, preceded her in death.
Survivors include her husband of 66 years, Reliford D. Jackson of Ozark; one daughter and son-in-law, Bethene and Earl Childree of Ozark; one son and daughter-in-law, Ronnie and Hilda Jackson of Dale County; three grandchildren, Winston Jackson Deloney, David Ryan Childree and Phillip E. Childree; and three great-grandchildren, Kara A. Deloney, Kaile M. Deloney and Christin N. Childree.

Annie Lee Bruner, 90 of Ozark, died Sunday evening, Sept. 8, 2002, in the Ozark Nursing Facility.
The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Rocky Mount Baptist Church with the Rev William Cannon officiating, and interment in Ebenezer Cemetery with Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. Visitation will be at Holman Funeral Home, 995 South Union Avenue, Ozark, Alabama, from 6 p.m. Tuesday until one hour prior to service time on Wednesday Visitation will then be at the church. The family will receive friends in the funeral home parlors 6-8 tonight.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Rocky Mount Baptist Church, County Highway 36, Ozark, Alabama 36360.
Mrs. Bruner, a native of Lamar County moved to south Alabama when she was 8. She farmed with her late husband, Leo W Bruner, and worked for 40 years in Rocky Mount Baptist Church as secretary-treasurer and Sunday school teacher (all classes). Mrs. Bruner loved her work in the church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo W. Bruner, one sister Mary Ellen Miller and three brothers, Clifton R. Trimm, Flavil R. Trimm, and Eugene D. Trimm.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Sara Jeanelle and James F. LaDuew Ozark, two grandchildren, James Michael LaDuew Birmingham, and Kara Michelle LaDuew, Ozark, one sister, Velma Lou Martin, Enterprise, two brothers, Francis L. Trimm, Enterprise, and Thomas C. Trimm, Enterprise.

Mrs. Johnnie Pearl Woodham Outlaw, 82, a homemaker and beloved Mother of Ozark, died Thursday September 5, 2002, in Oakview Manor Nursing Facility.
Funeral services will be 4 p.m. Saturday, September 7, 2002, from Chalkhead Baptist Church with the Reverend Tommy West officiating. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. Visitation will be at Holman Funeral Home, 995 South Union Avenue, Ozark, Alabama, 334-774-5348, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Friday, September 6, 2002, with the family receiving friends during this time. Otherwise, the family will be at the home of Mrs. Sue Ward. The body will be placed in the Church one hour prior to service time on Saturday.
Mrs. Outlaw was a native and life-long resident of Dale County and a member of Chalkhead Baptist Church.
Her husband, Arnice Perry Outlaw, predeceased her. Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Gloria and Thomas Yeomans, Midland City and Sue and Reynolds Ward, Ozark, two sons and daughters-in-law, Randy and Gayle Outlaw, Ozark, and Jeff and Jackie Outlaw, Ozark, one sister, Verlon Grantham, Ozark. Thirteen grandchildren and seven great grandchildren also survive.
Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers; Reggie Yeomans, Rusty Yeomans, Andy Ward, Drew Culp, Perry Outlaw and Tyler Outlaw.

Mrs. Lois Jean (Boots) Watson, 70, of Bingham Street, Ozark, went home to be with the Lord Friday morning, Sept. 6, 2002, following a long illness.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Holman Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ed Quattlebaum and the Rev. Dr. Charles Gann officiating. Internment will follow in Bersheba Cemetery with Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. Visitation will be from 3-5 p.m. Sunday at Holman Funeral Home, 995 South Union Ave., Ozark, Ala., 774- 5348, with the family receiving friends during this time. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Wiregrass Hospice, 980-D
East Andrews Ave., Ozark, Ala., 36360.
Mrs. Watson was a seamstress, employed at White Knight until its closing, and then worked at Van Heusen until her retirement.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Monroe (Bum) Watson.
Survivors include six daughters, Faye Hickman and her husband, Billy of Ozark, Linda Johnson of Ozark, Kathy Wells and her husband, John of Ozark, Debra Coleman and her husband, Frank of Ozark, Kim Speller and her husband, Jerry Newton, Lurleen Chadwick and her husband, Charlie of Skipperville; three sons, Jr. Watson and his wife Jeanice, Ricky Watson, and Paul Watson, all of Ozark; 25 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Derald Bowman Shell (lst Sgt. Retired U.S. Army), 72, of Ozark died Tuesday evening, Aug. 27, 2002, at his home following an extended illness.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the chapel of Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home with the Rev Greg Aman officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in Woodlawn Memory Gardens with Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Community Care Hospice, 300 N. Edwards Ave., Enterprise, Ala., 36330.
Mr. Shell was born Oct. 20, 1929, in Lost City W Va., to the late Bruce and Annie See Shell. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in Lost City W.Va., on June 21, 1948, and retired Feb. 28, 1970, in Ozark. He was a veteran of the Korean conflict and served in Vietnam from January 1968 to January 1969. He was awarded the Bronze Star for Heroism and the Army Commendation Medal for Heroism. He was a member of the VFW Post 6020 in Daleville.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Shell of Ozark; children, George Shell and wife, Linda of Colorado Springs, Colo., Ron Shell of Hemdon, Va., Terry Shell of Peachtree City Ga., Dorothy Patrick and husband, Douglas of Toney Ala., Michael Shell and wife, Jane of Canton, Ga., Debra Shiver and husband, Edwin of Ozark, David Shell and wife Linda of Anaheim, Calif, Richard Shell of Morrisville, N.C., and Linda Tew and husband, Joel of Ozark; four sisters and one brother-in-law, Neva Shaver of Moundsville, W.Va., Erma Strawderman of Lost City W Va., Loma White of Glenville W.Va., and Edith McDonaldson and husband Elwood.of Crossville, Tenn.; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Elbert Shell of Mathias, W.Va., Ronald Shell and wife, Ava of Weyers Cave, Va., and Edward Shell and wife, Norma of Shanks, W.Va.; 19 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Mr. Huey Max Lamb, 81, of Newton died Tuesday afternoon, Aug. 27, 2002, at his home following an extended illness.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the chapel of Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home with the Rev Roger Campbell and the Rev. Larry Roberts officiating. Burial will follow in Newton City Cemetery with Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Wiregrass Hospice, 980-D E. Andrews Ave., Ozark, Ala., 36360.
Mr. Lamb was born April 26, 1921, to the late Thomas I. and Lonnie Smith Lamb. He was a lifelong resident of Dale County and was retired from Howell Plywood Corporation in Dothan after 43 years of service. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Newton.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Louise Watson Lamb of Newton; one daughter and son-in-law Tammy and Mark Potts of Newton; one son, Terry M. Lamb of Newton; one sister and brother-in-law Pauline and Ray Wood of Dothan; granddaughter Brittney Alayna Potts; grandson, Kendall Allen Potts both of Newton; special niece, Yvonne Adams and husband, David of Newton; and several other nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Pallbearers will be Ryan Campbell, Tim Hammond, Kenneth Hammond, Charles Kelsey Kenneth Martin Jr., and Mark Rienhardt.

Mrs. Sarah Williams Fenn, 93, of Ozark, died Sunday morning, August 25, 2002, in Dale Medical Center.
Funeral services will be 11:30 A. M. Tuesday, August 27, 2002, from the Ozark Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Randall Yelverton officiating. Interment will be in Magnolia Cemetery, Evergreen, Alabama, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. Visitation will be at Holman Funeral Home, 995 South Union Avenue, Ozark, Alabama (334) 774-5348, from 10:00 A. M. until 11:00 A. M. Tuesday morning, August 27, 2002, with the family receiving friends during this time.
Mrs. Fenn was born in Evergreen, Alabama on March 24, 1909, the daughter of John and Battie Williams. She was a member of Ozark Presbyterian Church, Ozark Chapter of the Daughters of The American Revolution, The Book Club, and Ozark Country Club.
She was predeceased by her husband, Jerry W. Fenn and one great grandchild, "Trace" Stone.
Survivors include two sons and one daughter-in-law, Robert L. "Bob" Mosley, Greenville, North Carolina, and John L. "Pete" and Sue Ellen Mosley, Ozark; five grandchildren, Shere Strickland, Bob Mosley, Jr., Greenville, North Carolina, Jeri M. Copley, Wilmington, North Carolina, Ellen Stone, Montgomery Alabama, and Patty Mosley, Atlanta, Georgia, seven great grandchildren, John R. Strickland, Lori Beth Strickland, Meredith Manning, Jeri Elizabeth Copley Sarah Grace Stone, Austin Mosley, and Emily Elizabeth Stone.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Flowers Center for The Performing Arts, 312 East College Street, Ozark, Alabama 36360, Ozark Presbyterian Church, East Avenue, Ozark, Alabama 36360, or Boy Scouts of America, 6801 West Main Street, Dothan, Alabama 36301.

Mrs. Hazel Estel Scott, 84, a seamstress and homemaker of Wicksburg, died early Sunday morning, August 25, 2002, in the Ozark Nursing Facility following an extended illness.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 27, 2002, from Holman. Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Roger Campbell officiating, internment will follow in Newton City cemetery Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. Visitation will be at Holman Funeral Home, 995 South Union Avenue, Ozark, Alabama (334) 774-5348, from 6:00 P. M. until 8:00 P. M. Monday, August 26, 2002, with the family receiving friends during this time. Otherwise the family will be at the home of her Daughter and Son-in-Law, and Auburn. Scott in Wicksburg.
Mrs. Scott was a native of Dale County, having lived in Wicksburg for the past 22 years. She had attended Goodwater Baptist Church in Wicksburg. Mrs. Scott was the daughter of the late Leaman and Willie Martin Herring.
She was predeceased by her daughter, Ruby Edmondson two Sisters, Lucille Avant and Rose Lee Smith, and one Brother, Willie Frank Herring.
Her husband survives her: Auburn H. Scott, Wicksburg; one daughter and son-in-law: Barbara Jean and Charles Kirk, Wicksburg; step Daughter and son-in-law: Pat and J. B. Sanford, Dothan, Alabama; one son and daughter-in-law: Travis and Jannette Stokes, Ozark; one son-in-law: Roger Edmondson; three sisters: Mrs. Dot Brannon, Mrs. Laurada Harris, Ozark, and Mrs. Sara Daniels, Dothan; two brothers: James Herring, Newton and Allen Herring, Eufaula; nine grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, six great-great grandchildren four step-grandchildren and two step great-grandchildren also survive.

Mrs. Gerry Wilson Nysewander, 69, a devoted Mother and retired librarian of Ozark, died Saturday evening, August 24, 2002, at her home.
Funeral services will be 10:00 A. M. Tuesday August 27, 2002, from Ozark First United Methodist Church with the Reverend Dr. Billy U. Gaither and the Reverend Michael Lawler officiating. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Memory Gardens, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. Visitation will be at Holman Funeral Home, 995 South Union Avenue, Ozark, Alabama (334) 774-,5348 from 3:00 P. M. Monday August 26, 2002 until one hour prior to service time on Tuesday when it will be in the Church. The family will receive friends in the funeral home parlors from 6:00 P M. until 8:00 P M. Monday evening.
Mrs. Nysewander was a native of Harris and Shelby County Texas, having lived in various places while her late husband, Frank Nysewander, served in the United States Army. She made her home in Ozark since 1970. Upon the death of her husband in 1977, Mrs. Nysewander lovingly raised her three children alone. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Ozark and the John Wesley Sunday School Class.
Mrs. Nysewander was a librarian at the Ozark-Dale County Library for 15 years, and a veteran of the United States Army. Her husband, Frank Nysewander, her parents, one sister, and three brothers predeceased her.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Patty and Jim Fenn, Ozark; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Michael and Jo Anne Nysewander, Daleville, and Daniel Nysewander, Destin, Florida; four grandchildren, Pamela Claire Fenn, Bailey Annice Fenn, Michael Francis Nysewander, and Jessica Lynn Curl; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Sue and Marshall Dover, Center, Texas, Shirley and Frank Allums, Amarillo, Texas, and Freda and Russell Ford, Lumberton, Texas; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert and Nancy Wilson, Blairsville, Georgia, and Sam and Brenda Wilson, Houma, Louisiana.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Ozark- Dale County Library; 320 James Street, Ozark, Alabama 36360, or Wiregrass Hospice, 980-D East Andrews Avenue, Ozark, Alabama 36360.

Mr. Rayvon A. Whitehead, 89, of Ariton died Friday afternoon, Aug. 23, 2002, at Oak View Manor Nursing Home following an extended illness.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. today at Rocky Head Baptist Church with the Rev. Ron Jackson officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Olive Cemetery with Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home of Ozark directing. Mr. Whitehead will be placed in the church one hour prior to services. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Mt. Olive Cemetery Fund, c/o Verma Willoughby, P.O. Box 664, Ariton, Ala., 36311.
Mr. Whitehead was a native and lifelong resident of Dale County. He was retired from Hayes International and was engaged in farming most of his life. He was a member of the Rocky Head Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Rillie Mae Whitehead; a sister, Effie Marie Allen; and his brother, Wilburn Whitehead.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Agnes and Gerald Sammons of Ariton; one son and daughter-in-law, James and June Whitehead of Hope Hull, Ala.; sister-in-law, Arba Whitehead of Ashland; five grandchildren, Stan Whitehead of Albertville, Ala., Sandra Gamble of Decatur, Ala., Jerry Sammons, Sheila Johnson and Sonja Elmore all of Ariton; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be John Gamble, Stan Whitehead, Jerry Sammons, Kevin Johnson, Paul Elmore and Ben Johnson.

Mrs. Nancy Corene Martin Griggs, 88, of Ozark died Friday, Aug. 23, 2002 at Southeast Alabama Medical Center.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday at New Hope Baptist Church in the Bertha community with the Rev. William Cannon officiating. Burial will follow in the family cemetery (Dykes) with Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends from 3-5 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mrs. Griggs, the daughter of Lvnnie Dee and Lucy Barefield Martin, was born April 28, 1914 and spent her early life in the Bertha community. In later years, she became active in personal and compassionate care of the elderly, working at the Ozark Nursing Home for many years. She is remembered for her cheerful, positive and enthusiastic approach to everyday life. Her love of fishing was exceeded only by her love for her family. She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church.
Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, James Hillman and Carolyn Rudd Griggs of Fairhope, Ala.; one sister, Rubye Smith of Ozark, three half sisters, Winifred Grantham of the Bertha community, Miriam Snell of Skipperville and Helen Riley of Echo; two brothers, Wade Martin of Skipperville and Bill Martin of the Bertha community; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Mrs. Katie Mae Baxter Washington, 94, of Newton, died Thursday evening, Aug. 22, at the Dale Medical Center.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Antioch Baptist Church with Dr. S.C. Jackson officiating. Burial will follow in Newton Community Cemetery with Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home of Ozark directing.
Mrs. Washington was born Oct. 4, 1907, to the late William Clayton and Rosie Burks Clayton of Barbour County. She was a member of Antioch Baptist' Church where she served as an usher. She was also a member of the Ladies Aid Missionary Society.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Eddie Washington; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Survivors include four children, Willie Bennie Baxter of Newton, Arthur Robert Baxter and his wife, Emma of Clayton, Rosie Kate Baxter of Newton, and Franklin D. and his wife, Maxine Baxter of Newton; four sisters, Willie B: Warren of Eufaula, Marie Thomas of Texasville, Ala., Jennie Bell Thomas of Ozark and Mozella Clayton of Newton; nine grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
