Mr. John Dawson Peters, 33 of Loganville, Ga., and formerly of Ozark, Ala., died suddenly Saturday May 21, 2005.
Funeral services will be Thursday, May 26, 2005, 2 p.m. at Eternal Hills Funeral Home with the Rev Dave Wood, who is associate pastor and youth minister of Graysori United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will follow in Eternal Hills Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends at Eternal Hills Funeral Home in Snellville, Ga. from 6 to 8 tonight, May 25, 2005. A memorial service for John will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, June 2, 2005, at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Ozark with the Rev. Bill Hart officiating.
John was born in Dothan and attended schools in Ozark, Ala., and in Snellville, Ga. He was a graduate of Georgia State University., John had been in food service management until the time of his death. john was a member of Snellville United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his father and stepmother Vearl and Brenda Peters of Ozark, Ala.; his mother and stepfather Vince and Linda Pepe of Loganville, Ga.; two brothers, Jason Peters of Snellville, Ga., and Chad Goodman of Wetumpka, Ala.; and one sister, Michele Beasley of Birmingham, Ala.

Mr. Dawson "Bunk" Ziglar, 91 of Ariton, Ala., died Thursday, May 19, 2005, in Dale Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday from the Rocky Head Baptist Church with the Revs. Ron Jackson and Joe Underwood officiating, Burial will be in Mount Olive Cemetery Mr. Ziglar will be placed in the church one hour prior to service time. Visitation will be held from 6 until 8 tonight from the funeral home chapel.
Mr. Ziglar was a member of Rocky Head Baptist Church a native and life long resident of Dale County, Ala. He was born Jan. 28 1914, in Dale County Ala., the son of the late Rufus Preston Ziglar and Mary Edwards Ziglar "Bunk" was known for his love of sports, politics, family and friends. He was the owner of Ziglar's Laundromat and store which he Started in 1967. His generosity touched many lives and he will be missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Johnny Gunter and a great-granddaughter Tiffany Stokes.
He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Bennie Ruth Ziglar of Ariton, Ala.; four daughters, Frances Moates and her husband, Ron, of Enterprise, Ala., Mary Gunter of Fort Mitchell, Ala., Gloria Willoughby of Ariton, Ala., and Rebecca Wallace of Naples, Fla.; son, Byron Ziglar of Ariton, Ala.; sister, Evelyn Hudgens of Columbus, Ga.; 13 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.
His grandsons will be pallbearers.

Mr. Harlan Lawrence Horton, 66 of Ozark, died Thursday, morning, May 19, 2005, in a Dothan hospital.
Funeral services will he 2 p.m. Saturday, May 21, 2005, in Holman Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Memory Gardens with full military honors. The family will receive friends at Holman Funeral Home in Ozark from 6 until 8 tonight, May 20.
Mr. Horton was born Nov. 3, 1938 in Chesaning, Mich., to the late Violet Ann Shuster Horton and Glen Hurlon. Mr. Horton served in the United States Army for 2O years; with three tours of duty in Vietnam. He lived in Corpus Christi, Texas, for nine years, prior to moving to Ozark in 1975 where he owned and operated Horton's Locksmith Company until his retirement in 2004.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, June Marie Brown.
Survivors include his wife, Consuelo Horton, Ozark; a daughter, Virginia Godeke and her husband, Robert, Ozark; a son, Chriswell Horton, Dothan; sister, Laura Richter, Owasso, Mich.; three brothers, Cloyse Horton, Shelby, Mich., Alvin Horton, Owasso, Mich. and Paul Horton, Harrison, Mich., and two grandchildren, Andrew, Godeke and Nicholas Godeke.

Alice Marie Buchan, age 76, passed away on May 17, 2005, in Birmingham, Ala.
Services will be Thursday May 19, 2005, at 10:30 a.m. at Saint Peters Catholic Church in Hoover, Ala. with visitation one hour prior to service. A service will be held Saturday May 21, at 10 a.m. at Ozog Funeral Home in Johnstown, Pa. with burial in Grandview Cemetery in Johnstown, Pa. In lieu of flowers, make memorial to St. Anne's Retirement Community, 3952 Columbia Ave., Columbia, PA 17512-1715 or St. Johns, memorial fund, PO. Box 1008 Ozark, AL 36361-1008.
She was born in Johnstown, Pa. and was member of Saint Johns Catholic Church in Ozark, Ala.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Milan Buchan and her parents, Nicholas and Mary Bahoric.
She is survived by two sons, Paul (Cindy) Buchan of Portland Ore. and Fran (Kathy) Buchan of Birmingham, Ala.; daughter Adele (Wallace) Williams of Birmingham, Ala.; brother, John (Joan) Bahoric of Carbondale, Ill.; and sister, Phyllis (Bill) Fisher of Fulton, N.Y.

Mr. Hassell Miller, 79 of Ozark, Ala., passed away Sunday, May 15, 2005, at his residence after an extended illness.
Funeral Services will be at the chapel of Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home today May 17, 2005, at 2 p.m. with the elder Clayton Nowell officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Memory Gardens in Ozark, Ala., with full military honors. The family request, in lieu of flowers, that donations be made to Wiregrass Hospice, 1970 E. Andrews, Ozark, AL 36360; or The American Cancer Fund, 2346 W. Main St., Suite 3, Dothan, AL 36301; or Ozark Primitive Baptist Church, c/o Jerry Leyva, 165 Dixie Dr., Ozark, AL 36360.
Mr. Miller was born March 4, 1926, in Rienzi, Miss. to the late Mr. and Mrs.Calvin and Velma Miller. He was a retired Master Sergeant with the U.S. Army, having served 26 years. Mr. Miller was a member of Ozark Primitive Baptist Church. He had been a deacon with the church since Oct. 19, 1987.
Mr. Miller is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Madge Miller of Ozark, Ala.; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Patricia A. and Richard West of Enterprise, Ala., Pamela K. and Billy Owens of Marianna, Fla., Phyllis L. Urinoski of Enterprise, Ala. and Penny G. and Mike Tyler of Selma, Ala.; brother and sister-in-law, Billy and Reba Miller; sister, Mildred Johnson; 10 grandchildren, Heather (Doug) Duke, David West, Cristie Creamer, Jason (Cindy) West, Terri (Brian) Golden, Erin Urinoski, Stephanie Tyler, Kayla Owens, Brandon Tyler and Austin Tyler; five great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Creamer, Austin Creamer, Micaela Duke, Ivy Golden and Nathan Duke; his special friends, Amy and Jerry Leyva; and the church family of Ozark Primitive Baptist Church.

Luvenia C. Justice, 98 of Ozark, answered the Lord's call to come home Thursday, May 12, 2005, at Dale Medical Center.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 17, 2005 at Lighthouse Holiness Church at 1562 Mixon School Road with Winfred King, Jon Isaacs, Dwayne Watson, and David Sims officiating. Interment will follow, at Woodlawn Memory Gardens Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be held at Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home on Monday, May 76, 2005 from 6 to 8 p.m.
Mrs. Justice was born Oct. 9, 1906 in Marion County to the late Mr. and Mrs. Will and Mariah Long. She was a faithful member of Lighthouse Holiness Church for 25 years. She will always be remembered as a loving Christian mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She has the blessing of a long life and lived to love and appreciate five generations. She was a beautiful Christian influence as she shared her love and received love from her many friends and family.
She leaves to cherish her memory one loving son and daughter-in-law, William E. and Myrtle L. Parr of Ozark; two granddaughters, Linda and her husband, Billy Barrentine, and Brenda Yarberry, all of Ozark; one great-grandaughter, Heidi and her husband, Jon Issacs; two great-great-granddaughters, Alayna Issacs and Alivya Issacs; several nieces and nephews.

William A. Herring, 86 of Ariton, died Tuesday May 10, 2005, at his home following an extended illness.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m.. today May 12, 2005, at Bethel Assembly of God Church with the Revs. Bernard James, Stephen Merner, and Bruce Cooper officiating. Interment will follow in Ariton Cemetery. The family receive friends at Holman Funeral Home in Ozark. Visitation will continue in the church one hour prior to service time today. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be sent to the Ariton Cemetery Fund, C/O Mr. Earl Thompson, 7147 Hwy 51, Ariton, AL 36311.
Mr. Herring was born March 25, 1919, in Barbour County to the late Callie A. and Alex Herring. He was a member of the Bethel Assembly of God Church. Mr. Herring retired from Civil Service at Fort Rucker where he worked with the water department for 25 years.
His wife, Wilma Smith Herring, preceded him in death in 1993.
Survivors include two sons, Billy Clyde Herring, Ariton Bennie Herring and his wife Juliette, Brundidge; one brother, Talmadge Herring Phenix City; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Special caregivers, Earl Rugg and Sue Howard.

Joseph J. "Papa Joe" VayDa, 61 of Ozark, died quietly at home on Tuesday May 10, 2005.
He enjoyed a career of photojournalism in the Chicago and local area. He was a motorcyclist and helped organize both the Dothan and Panama City bike fests.
He is survived by his wife, Melinda; stepdaughter Judith Ferguson; stepson, Aaron Amend; two grandchildren; and his aunt, Ann Fedak of Lyndora, Penn.
No services are planned. The family asks that donations be made to Wiregrass Hospice in Lieu of flowers.

Velma Jewel Franks, 83of Ozark, passed Thursday, May 5, 2005, at her residence following an extended illness.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday, May 9, at post Oak Baptist Church with the Rev. Don' Moore officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Mrs. Franks will be placed in the church hour prior to service time. The family will receive friends at Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home in Ozark, Sun- day, May 8, from 3 to 5 p.m.
Mrs. Franks was born March 74, 1922, in Dale County to the late Lynn Alexander and Lizzie Free. She was a wonderful homemaker. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend who cared for and loved her family deeply.
Mrs. Franks was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin P. Franks; one daughter, Glenda Joyce Whitt; three sisters, Lena Whitman, Lola Andrews and Clyde Tharpe; four brothers, Louie Free, Louis Free, Lloyd Free and Holman Free.
Surviving family include two sons and one daughter-in-law, Henry Franks, and Marvin J. and Beverly Franks all of Ozark; three grandsons, Tracy Whitt, Kevin Franks and Kyle Franks; two granddaughters, Kala Lilly and Tara Whitt. Several nieces and nephews.

Mr. James E. Head Jr., 88 of Ozark, Ala., died Wednesday evening, May 4, 2005, in Dale Medical Center.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, May 7, 2005, from Ozark Baptist Church with the Revs. Greg Aman and Bill Hix officiating. Interment will be at 4 p.m. in Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery in Hale County, Ala., with Dr. Donald Payne, who is pastor of Forrest Lake Baptist Church, officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 until 8 tonight. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his memory to Ozark Baptist Church, Building Fund, 282 S. Union Ave., Ozark, AL 36360.
Mr. Head was born Sept. 8, 1916, in Grayson, Ga. (Gwinnett County). He moved to Hale County, Ala., where hu began building bridges and met his wife to be, Doris Hutt, to whom he was married for 66 years. Mr. Head, Adrian Skelton and Joe L. Hutt founded Madison Construction Company in 1955, moving to Ozark in 1957 with a contract to build Brown's subdivision. His career spanned more than 50 years. During this period of time, he constructed a vast amount of projects, ranging from schools, banks, Ozark Civic Center, Dale County Court House, and many, many more. Mr. Head was a veteran of World War II, serving in the 88th Armor Division in Italy. His love of farming the family's timberland in Havannah, Ala., was one of his greatest past times, which he enjoyed with his brother-in-law, the late Joe L. Hutt. He was an active member of Ozark Baptist Church where he served as a deacon from Aug. 13, 1978, until his death. He was a member of the Friendship Sunday School Class, served as chairman of the Building and Grounds Committee and the Board of Trustees. He was a member of the Civitan Club and the Association of General Contractors.
Mr. Head was preceded in death by his parents, Lillian Johnson Head and James Emett Head Sr.; two brothers, V.G. Head and Charlie Frank Head; and his son-in-law, John L. Brittain.
Survivors include his wife, Doris Hutt Head, Ozark, Ala.; daughter, Jerrie Brittain, Charleston, S.C.; son, Jim Head and his wife, Debbie, Ozark, Ala.; seven grandchildren, Bonnie Geer and her husband, Gordon, Charleston, S.C., Gina Baker and her hus- band, Michael, Hampton, Va., Shannah Mallory and her husband, Patrick, Dothan, Brent Head and his wife, Cindy, Birmingham, Ala., Bret Head, Ozark, Ala., Tiffany Kelley and her husband, Justin, Auburn, Ala., Kelley Peak, Panama City Fla.; two sisters, Blondine Mosley, Snellville, Ga., and Judy Pope, Atlanta; and nine great-grandchildren.
Serving as pallbearers will be Jerry Williams, Neil Suarez, Larry Williams, Joe Outlaw, Travis Skelton, Lloyd Flowers, and Buddy Skelton. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Friendship Sunday School Class; Harold Dick, Aubrey Hale, Roy C. Harris, H. Jack Mizell, Dan Shirah, Jack S. Strickland, Dan Walding, and Danny Walding, and also Ralph Medley, Willie Morrow, Carroll Jackson, Adrian Skelton and Gordon Skelton.

Mr. James Earl Miller, 68 of Dothan, died early Wednesday morning, May 4, 2005, in Flowers Hospital.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, May 6, 2005, in the chapel of Holman Funeral Home in Ozark with the Revs. Dr. Lawson Bryan and Wayne Helms officiating. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 until 8 tonight. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made in his memory to First United Methodist Church of Dothan, Building Fund, 1380 W. Main St., Dothan, AL 36301.
Mr. Miller was born in Ozark, Ala., on Aug. 3, 1936, to the late Irene Cobb Miller and Charlie Preston Miller. He served in the U.S. Army, graduated from Troy State University and worked with Sony for 17 years prior to his retirement. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Dothan, where he was a Sunday school teacher, a greeter and worked with the Upper Room Prayer Line.
Survivors include his wife, Judith Spear Miller, Dothan; two daughters, Sandy Nimmo, Daleville, Ala. and Terri Martin and her husband, David, Spanish Fort, Ala.; son, Greg Miller and his wife, Susan, Jasper, Ga.; stepson, Matt Plummer and his wife, Ashley, Daphne, Ala.; brother, Billy Miller and his wife, Martha, Ozark, Ala.; and five grandchildren, Ryne Nimmo, Andrew Martin, Ellie Miller, Anna Martin and Meredith Miller.

Mrs. Joan Frierson Phillips, 74 of Ozark, Ala., passed away Monday, May 3, 2005, in Flowers Hospital after a short illness.
Visitation will be held at Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home on Thursday; May 5, 2005, at 6 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Ridgecrest Baptist Church in Ozark on Friday May 6, 2005, at 2 p.m. with Dr. William Bennett of Wilmington, N.C., officiating.
Mrs. Phillips was born March 14, 1931, in Jamestown, N.C. She was raised in Summerton, S.C., and was a member of the Summerton Presbyterian Church. She was a business graduate of University of South Carolina. After marrying in 1955, Mrs. Phillips spent the next 20 years as a military wife, mother and grandmother. She traveled much of thc world and served in several capacities as a teacher, administrator and a member of the diplomatic community in U.S. Embassy overseas. After her husband retired in 1975, Mrs. Phillips and her family settled in Ozark. She quickly became a "mom" to many in the community and she is dearly loved by all who knew her. She was actively involved in the Dothan Service League and was a constant contributor to the success of the United Ostomy Association at Flowers Hospital in Dothan. She will always be remembered by, those who love her as someone who forged the path of friendship to any and all with whom she met.
Mrs. Phillips was preceded in death by her mother and father, Gilland and Roma Frierson; and brother, Alfred Frierson.
She is survived by her husband of 50 years, James W. Phillips; son, John Allen Phillips of Newnan, Ga.; daughter, Audrey Phillips Bennett of Dothan; nine grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Serving as active pallbearers will be James Fuqua, Richard St. John, Zach Roberts, Eddy Henderson, Steve Rohr and Charles McVay. Honorary pallbearers will be Jack Clements, Orval Sheppard, Robert Grove, George Linthicum, and David Glenn.

Mrs. Emogene Baxley Adams Helms, 77 of Ozark, Ala. and formerly of the Five Points Community near Louisville, died Friday April 29, 2005.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 4, 2005, from Prospect Baptist Church near Clayton, Ala., with the Rev. R.C. Belcher officiating. Interment will follow in Adams Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery The family will receive friends at Holman Funeral Home in Ozark from 6 until 8 tonight. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made in her memory to Community Hospice, 415 James St., Suite D, Ozark, AL 36360 or to Adams Chapel United Methodist Church, Cemetery Fund, c/o Mrs. Faye Glover, 620 Bud Gary Hwy., Clayton, AL 36016.
Mrs. Helms was born Sept. 24, 1927, in Louisville, Ala., to the late Erie Bryant Baxley and Wiley C. Baxley
She was preceded in death by her son, Byron Adams; three sisters, Myrtice Baxley Tommie Lou Helms, and Lillian Williams; two brothers, T.C. Baxley and Edwin Baxley; and one grandson, Samuel Caraway.
Survivors include her daughter, Bonnie Foster Ozark, Ala.; two sons, Bruce Adams and his wife, Margie, Clayton, Ala., and Benjamin Adams, Owosso, Mich.; three sisters, Miriam Charping, Clopton, Ala., Minnie Merle Baxley Montgomery, Ala., and Addie Maude Berry and her husband, Jim, Cincinnati, Ohio; two brothers, Emmett Baxley and his wife, Bell and Charles Baxley and his wife, Lalah all of Clayton, Ala.; eight grandchildren, Jason Adams, Garden City, Mich., Daniel Caraway and his wife, Trudi, Ozark, Ala., Emily Adams, Garden City, Mich., Dustin Foster, Ozark, Ala., Jennifer Matthews and her husband, Josh, Clayton, Ala., Deon Foster and his wife, Jenna, Columbia, Ala., Joshua Adams, Clayton, Ala., and Jesse Adams, Clayton, Ala.; two great-grandchildren, Dillon Caraway and Dalton Caraway, Ozark, Ala.
