MR. VERNON GLYNN R. HUNTER

Mr. Vernon Glynn R. Hunter, age 81 of Mentone, passed away Sunday, July 21, 2002 in St. Vincent Hospital in Birmingham.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, July 23, 2002 at Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Pat McFadden officiating. Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery with Masonic Graveside Rites. The family will receive friends from 4-8 PM Monday, July 22, 2002 at the funeral home.

Mr. Hunter was a native of DeKalb County, AL. He was born May 23, 1921, the son of the late Ralph James and Iula Ashberry Hunter. He was the retired co-owner of U.S. Boiler and Tube Co., Inc., was a Mason, and a member of the Alhambra Shriner Temple Chattanooga, TN.

Survivors include: wife, Nancy Hawk Hunter; sons and daughters-in-law, David and Judy Hunter of Marietta, GA, Ed and Sabrina Hunter of Fort Payne; brother, DeWayne Hunter of Mentone; grandchildren, Carrie Christian, David Hunter II, Chris Hunter, and Candace Hunter; great grandchildren, Coen, Cameron, and Cole Christian.

MR. EARL A. MASSEY

Mr. Earl A. Massey, age 64 of Fort Payne, passed away Tuesday, July 23, 2002 following a sudden illness.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, July 25, 2002 from the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Kenneth Parker officiating. Burial will follow in Walker's Chapel Cemetery with Full Air Force Military Rites. The family will receive friends from 4-8 PM Wednesday at the funeral home. The family requests no flowers, but memorials may be made to Asbury United Methodist Church.

Pallbearers: Dewain Hale, Frank Figueroa, J.B. Keith, Farley Green, and Steve Nelson.

Survivors include: wife, Shelby Jean Jones Massey; sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth and Cheryl Massey, Curtis and Traci Massey, all of Fort Payne; daughter and son-in-law, Sissy and David Walker of Fort Payne; grandchildren, Brett Walker, John Massey, and Rachel Walker; brothers, Eldridge Massey of Grant, AL, and Arwin Massey of Conyers, GA; several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Massey was a native of DeKalb County, born March 21, 1938, son of the late Allen Lee and Bessie Pearl Oliver Massey. He was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church and retired as a Tech. Sergeant with The United States Air Force. He retired from The United States Army, Redstone Arsenal as a Systems Analyst.

MRS. BARBARA LOUISE TOWNSEND

Mrs. Barbara Louise Townsend, age 69 of Naples, FL, formerly of DeKalb County, passed away Monday, July 22, 2002 in Naples, FL.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, July 27, 2002 from Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with burial in the Loveless Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM-2:00 PM Saturday at Wilson Funeral Home.

Survivors include: children, Martha (Kenneth) Walker of Fort Payne, Mary Ann (James) Casey of Fort Payne, Richard Townsend of Naples, FL, Robert (Tammy) Townsend of Naples, FL; sister, Lulabell (Hap) Holt of Wachula, FL; brothers, Nick (Willie) Turner, Ralph (Mildred) Turner, Winfred Turner, Tommy (Lula) Turner, and Leslie (Doris) Turner, all of Naples, FL; ten grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Elisha "Pappy" and Marion Turner; brother, Archie Turner; sister, Marion Seal; and grandson, Irby Norris.

Mrs. Townsend was a longtime resident of Naples, and a member of one of the pioneer families of Naples, FL.

MR. JARRETT H. CROWLEY

Mr. Jarrett H. Crowley, age 81 of Fort Payne, passed away Tuesday, July 30, 2002 at his residence.

Graveside service will be held at 11:00AM Friday, August 2, 2002 at Walker's Chapel Cemetery with Rev. Denny Mashburn officiating.

Survivors include: wife, Mary Dameron Crowley; son, Jarrett Crowley II of Rehoboth Beach, Delaware; daughter, Pebble Dunn of Royal Palm Beach, Florida; brothers, Clyde Crowley of Victor, West Virginia, Ward Crowley of Auto, West Virginia; sisters, Ann Hickman of Toledo, Ohio, Delores Wright of Grossile, Michigan; three grandchildren.

Mr. Crowley was a native of West Virginia, and a retired construction supervisor. He was a veteran of World War II.

MR. JOHN WILLIAM BRITTON

Mr. John William Britton, age 50 of Valley Head, passed away Wednesday, July 31, 2002 at DeKalb-BMC.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, August 2, 2002 at the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Valley Head Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 12-8 PM Thursday at the funeral home.

MR. ALVIN GARDENER REEVES

Mr. Alvin Gardener Reeves, age 76 of Collinsville, passed away Saturday, June 29, 2002 at his residence. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, July 1, 2002 from Collinsville Funeral Home-Sharpe Chapel with Dell Kimberly officiating. Burial will follow in Hunt's Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday 6-8 PM.

Survivors include: son, Billy Mac (Vickie) Reeves of Collinsville; granddaughters, Kale and Kaci Reeves; sister, Vera Miller of Collinsville.

Pallbearers: Bill Glen, Carl "Popeye" Gladden, Danny Miller, Johnny Miller, Dale Bates, Larry Blackwell.

Honorary pallbearers: Hershel Burt, Elmer Roden, Corbet Reagan, Milton "Foss" Oliver

The family requests donations be made to Oliver's Chapel Church of Christ Building Fund or they will accept flowers.

Mr. Reeves was preceded in death by his wife, Agnes Blackwell Reeves.

MRS. RUTH NORWOOD

Mrs. Ruth Norwood, age 96 of Collinsville, passed away Wednesday, July 10, 2002 at Collinsville Health Care.

Funeral service will be at 1:00 PM Friday, July 12, 2002 from Collinsville Funeral Home-Sharpe Chapel with Rev. Charles Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Copeland Bridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends after 5:00 PM at the funeral home.

Survivors include: daughter, Helen (Lamar) Henderson of Collinsville; sons, A.L. "Buddy" (Lina) Norwood of Dawson, and Bobby (Barbara) Norwood of Collinsville; nine grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, eight great great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, and friends.

Pallbearers will be grandsons.

Mrs. Norwood was preceded in death by her husband, Jessie Rupert (Buster) Norwood; sons, J.R. (Peck) Norwood, and Infant Norwood; granddaughter, Allison Norwood; great granddaughter, Tori Norwood.

MRS. TRESSIE DRAKE

Mrs. Tressie Drake, age 93 of Collinsville, passed away Sunday, July 28, 2002 at the Collinsville Nursing Home.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, July 31, 2002 from Collinsville Funeral Home-Sharpe Chapel with Rev. Jeff Chambers officiating. Burial will follow in Plunket Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-8 PM Tuesday, July 30.

Survivors include: daughter, Gail Sarratt of Collinsville; son, Hobert (Pete) Drake of Collinsville; grandchildren, Jeff Sarratt, Angela Drake, Amy Dryden; five great-grandchildren; sister, Voy Bryant of Collinsville.

Pallbearers: Arthur Bryant, Randall Bryant, Brian Meadows, Andy Crow, W.C. Taylor, Donald Vaughn, Chuck Taylor, Fred Oliver, and Bob Farmer.

Mrs. Drake was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Drake; brothers, J.B. Meadows, Hobert Meadows, Ralph Meadows; sister, Mary Kate Wilbanks.

MR. TIMOTHY WADE FROST

Mr. Timothy Wade Frost, age 35 of Henagar, passed away Friday, June 28, 2002 at SO. Baldwin Medical Center, Foley, AL.

Visitation will be Sunday, June 30, 2002 from 5-9 PM CST and Monday, July 1 from 8:30-10:00 AM. Funeral service will be 11:00 AM CST Monday, July 1 at Henagar Baptist Church with Rev. Bobby Hullett officiating. Burial will follow in Green haven Memorial Gardens, Jackson County, AL

Survivors include: parents, Jimmy and Evelyn Frost; wife, Tanya Frost; brother, Stephen Frost, all of Henagar; grandparents, Clyde and Lucille Long of Dutton. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Lester and Bertha Frost.

Mr. Frost was a life-long resident of DeKalb County, AL, a member of the Henagar Baptist Church and a Deacon. He was employed by Siemens Westinghouse in Fort Payne.

MRS. MOZEL MARIE WHITE

Mrs. Mozel Marie White, age 81 of Henagar, passed away Sunday, June 30, 2002 at Jackson County Hospital in Scottsboro, AL.

The funeral service will be held at 3:30 PM Tuesday, July 2, 2002 at Kerby Funeral Home Chapel in Henagar, AL with Rev. J.A. Morrow officiating. Burial will follow in Green Haven Memorial Gardens in Henagar with Kerby Funeral Home in charge.

MRS. RUTH SMITH

Mrs. Ruth Smith, age 74 of Henagar, AL, passed away Thursday, July 4, 2002 at BMC-DeKalb.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, July 6, 2002 at Kerby Funeral Home Chapel with Revs. Steve Lea and Melvin Slatton officiating. Burial will follow in Mountain Home Cemetery at Ider, AL.

MRS. VIOLET E. CARTER

Mrs. Violet E. Carter, age 80, of Pisgah, AL (Rosalie Community), passed away Saturday, July 13, 2002 in Florence, SC.

Funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM Tuesday, July 16, 2002 at New Home Baptist Church, Rosalie, AL, with Rev. David Smith and Rev. Bud Durham officiating. Burial will follow in New Home Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1-9 PM Monday, July 15 and from 9 AM-1:15 PM Tuesday. Kerby Funeral in charge of arrangements

Survivors include: sons and daughters-in-law, Tommy and Patsy Carter, Jimmy and Angela Carter, all of Pisgah; daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Wayne Townson of Dutton, Cathy and Michael Durham, and Mary Carter, all of Pisgah; sister, Imogene Tankersley of Dalton, GA,; seven grandchildren, Joanna Montgomery, David Carter, Adam Carter, Bill Shelton, Ashley Durham, Lindsay Durham, and Timothy Carter; four great grandchildren, Amber Montgomery, Hunter Montgomery, Dakota Carter, and Lucy Carter.

Mrs. Carter was a life-long resident of Jackson County, AL and a member of New Home Baptist Church in Rosalie. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Bertha Coffman White; husband, Tom Carter; son, Jessie Carter; sisters, Maybelle Janaway, and Lou Gilley; brothers, Willie, Buster, Luther, and Jack White.

MR. JOSEPH VANDER WHEELER, JR.

MR. Joseph Vander Wheeler, JR age 84 of Rossville, GA passed away Thursday, July 18, 2002 in College Park, GA
Funeral service will be Sunday, July 21, 2002, Graveside service at 2pm CDT at the Pisgah, Cemetery in Pisgah, AL

MRS. SHELIA J. WILSON

Mrs. Shelia J. Wilson, age 55 of Pisgah, passed away Sunday, July 21, 2002 at her residence. Funeral service will be at 11:00 AM Tuesday, July 23, 2002 at Kerby Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Hairston and Rev. Scott Kirby officiating. Burial will follow in Green haven Memorial Gardens in Pisgah. The family will receive friends from 4-9 PM Monday, July 22, 2002 at the funeral home, and Tuesday, July 23 from 9:00 AM until time of service.

Survivors include: father, George F. Lester; husband, Otis Wayne Wilson; sons and daughters-in-law, Anthony and Shawn Wilson, all of Pisgah, Timothy and Natalie Wilson of Oxford; daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Jeffery Nunley of Pisgah; sisters, Connie Lester of Pisgah, Marie Brasher of Oxford, Lynn Ashmore of Scottsboro; brothers, Darwin Lester of Sylvania, Danny Lester of South Pittsburg, TN, Ricky Lester of Henagar; six grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her mother, Jane Tanner Lester.

Mrs. Wilson was born in Jackson County, AL, and was a member of Pisgah Baptist Church.

MR. RAY LEON GANT

Mr. ray Leon Gant age 70 of Pisgah, AL passed away Thursday, July 25, 2002 at Carraway Methodist Medical Center
in Birmingham, AL

Funeral service will be Sunday, July 28, 2002 at 2pm CDT at the Kerby Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bud Durham
officiating. Burial will follow in the Pisgah Cemetery in Pisgah, AL

MR. CHARLIE WRIGHT

Mr. Charlie Wright, age 95 of Flintstone, GA, formerly of Pisgah, AL, passed away Saturday, July 27, 2002 in Fort Oglethorpe, GA.

Funeral service will be held at 11:30 AM Tuesday, July 30, 2002 from Kerby Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Royce Powell officiating. Burial will follow in Unity Cemetery in Sylvania.

MR. BURTICE WADE CARTER

Mr. Burtice Wade Carter, age 63 of California, formerly of this area, passed away Tuesday, June 25, 2002 in California.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, July 2, 2002 from Rainsville Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Richard Talley officiating. Burial will follow in Trinity Cemetery with Rainsville Funeral Home directing.

The family will receive friends from 4-9 PM Monday, July 1, 2002.

He was preceded in death by his father, Leldon Carter.
