Mr. Walter (Scutter) Smith of Mentone, AL passed away Sunday,
June 10, 2001 at Riverview Hospital in Gadsden, AL. Mr. Smith
was the son of the late Wallace J. and Lillie E. Young Smith.. He
was a member of the Moon Lake Baptist Church and a retired
construction worker and a bird dog trainer.

Funeral services will be 11am CDT Tuesday, June 12, 2001 at
Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Nicky Harcrow officiating.
Burial will follow in the Bankhead Cemetery.

Mr. Smith is survived by his Daughters; Judy Elizabeth Lewis of Dalton, GA
and Rita Chapman of Fort Payne, AL
Son: Mike Smith of Mentone, AL
Sister; Ruth Hammon of Fort Payne, AL
Grandchildren; Chris, Tim, and Amy Lewis, Lisa Smith,
John and Anna Chambers

Mr. Clifford Barnett age 86 of Jamestown, AL formerly
of Valley Head, AL passed away Monday, June 11, 2001
at BMC Cherokee Hospital in Centre, AL. Mr. Barnett
was a Baptist and a retired from the Regal Mills of Trion, GA

Funeral services will be 1pm CDT Wednesday, June 13, 2001
at Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Kyle Price officiating.
Burial will follow in the Whitehall Cemetery, family will receive
friends from 5 until 8pm CDT.

Mr. Barnett is survived by his Wife; Leona Ramey Barnett
Son; Charles Barnett of Stockbridge, GA
Daughter; Sara Jane Henderson of Summerville, GA
Step-Sons; Jerry Brown of Barnville S. C., Johnny Brown of
Rhinehart, AL
Brothers; Clyde Barnett of Valley Head, AL, Robert Barnett of
Trenton, GA., Joe Barnett of Henagar, AL., and Earnest Barnett
of Atoka, TN
Sisters; Lether Couch of Trenton, GA., and Lottie Ingle of Valley Head, AL
6 Grandchildren, 12 Great-Grandchildren, 3 Step-Grandchildren,
3 Great-Great-Grandchildren, and 2 Step-Great-Grandchildren

Mr. Earl Creekmore age 90 of Fort Payne, AL passed away Thursday,
June 14, 2001 at his residence. Funeral services will be Monday,
June 18, 2001 at Wilson Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow
in the Lakewood Memory Gardens of Rossville, GA
The family will be from 2pm to 4pm CDT at the funeral home.

Mr. Webster Lee Vaughn age 68 of Fort Payne, Al passed away Thursday,
June 14, 2001. Mr. Vaughn was a native of Dekalb County, AL
born Feb. 2, 1933, son of the late Carmie W. and Alene Jackson Vaughn
he was a meber of the Chavies Baptist Church. he was employed by
the city of Fort Payne, Middle School and a building maintenance man.
He was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the U. S. Army

Funeral services will be 2pm CDT Sunday, June 17, 2001 at
Wilson Funer al Home Chapel with Rev. Orien Ledford and Rev. Jeremy
Arnall officiating. Burial will follow in the Glenwood Cemetery.
Pallbearers include Gary Haas, Bob Bain, Bill Haas, Jim Arnell,
Robert Haas, and Joe Hendon. Honorary Pallbearer includes the
Faculty and Staff of the Fort Payne Middle School.

Survivors include his Wife; Barbara Haas Vaughn
Son and Daughter-in-law; Bard and Karen Vaughn of Birningham, AL
Sister; Estelle Hendon of Decatur, GA

Mr. John A Davis III age 61 passed away Friday, June 15, 2001
in Birmingham, AL. Mr. Davis was born in Fort Payne, AL
son of the late John, Jr. and Helen Patton Davis. He was a
graduate of Marion Military Institute. The University of Alabama
and completed graduate studies at Sanford University, Cumberland
School of Law, and the School of banking of the South of Louisiana
State University. A long time bank employee, John began his career at
the Exchange Security (now Regions Bank) in Birmingham, AL where he
served a manager of the Mountain Brook Branch. In 1967 he returned to
Fort Payne, AL. In 1974 he was elected as Executive Vice President, and Chief
Executive Officer, of the Fort Payne Bank, and was serving in that capacity
when it merged with the Alabama bank Corporation in that year, he
retired from Jordan Hatcheries as Financial administrator, John was a long time
member of the St. Phillips Episcopal Church in Fort Payne, AL where he served
as Vestryman and Warden. He and his father were presidents of the Fort Payne
Rotary Club, active in the Boy Scouts of America, The Fort Payne Chamber
of Commerce, Fort Payne Gas Supply Board, Fort Payne Industrial Development
Board, Alabama Bankers Association, Dekalb County Tourist Association,
Alabama Lakes Association.

He was married to Nancy Akin Davis, 2 Sons; John A Davis IV, Rpbert
Lewis Davis both of Chattanooga, TN
Grandsons; William and John Robert Davis, Cousin; Pat Faucett of Tuscaloosa, AL

Graveside services will be 11am CDT Monday, June 18, 2001 at Glenwood
Cemetery with Rev. Grady Richardson officiating. The family request in lieu
of flowers that donations can be made to the St. Phillips Episcopal Church
or charity of your choice.

Pallbearers include Wallace Haralson, David Rains, Richard King, Morris Beck,
Bubba Holland, and Charles Black.

Mrs. Cornelia Welch Watson age 93 of Huntsville, AL
formerly of Fort Payne, AL passed away on Tuesday,
June 19, 2001 at her residence. Mrs. Watson was born
March, 8, 1908 in Savannah, TN daughter of the late
Hundley Broyles and Cornelia Hall Welch. Her Husband;
Herman Watson preceded her in death on April 5, 1991
She was a graduate of Martha Washington College in
Abingdon Virginia and a teacher and a coach of girl's
basketball at Dekalb County High School. She was a
member of the First Presbyterian Church in Huntsville, AL
First Methodist Church in Fort Payne, AL where she was a
choir director from 1930 - 1975 (45 Years), Amaranth
Club in Birmingham, AL, Huntsville Symphony Guild, Huntsville
Rotaryann's Club.

Funeral services will be Thursday, June 21, 2001 at 2pm CDT
from the First United Methodist Church in Fort Payne, AL
with Dr. William Cockrill, Dr. Mel Strain, and Dr. Mark Lacey officiating.
Burial will follow in the Glenwood Cemetery The family will receive
friends at the funeral home from 5 until 7pm CDT, Wednesday,
June 20,2001. The family request in lieu of flowers, donation can be made
to the First United Methodist Church in Fort Payne, AL Choir Fund.

Survivors include her Son and Daughter-in-law; Herman Jr. and
Janet Watson of Huntsville, AL
7 Grandchildren and 4 Great-Grandchildren

Mrs. Sarah Lee Lavoy age 80 of Fort Payne, AL passed away Wednesday,
June 20, 2001. She was a Baptist and a Homemaker. She was the
daughter of the late H. E. and Ruth Lucy Pitts of Collinsville,AL

Mrs. lavoy is Survived by her Daughters; Margaret Johnson of Minet, North
Dakota., Sandra Martin of Alabama,
Brother; James Pitts of Georgia
Sisters; Virginia Hardman of Fort Payne, AL., and Mary Barton of Georgia
5 Grandchildren and 7 Great-Grandchldren

Funeral services will be 11am Wednesday, June 25, 2001 at Wilson Funeral Home
Chapel with Ronald Berry officiating. Burial will follow in the Elmwood Cemetery
in Birmingham, AL

Mrs. Elizabeth Louise Clary age 81 of Tampa, FL formerly of Fort Payne, AL
passed away Tuesday, June 19, 2001 in Tampa, FL
Mrs. Clary was born September 21, 1919 in Fort Payne, AL
daughter of the late Nolan S. and Mazie Ann Lyle Dean

Funeral services will be 2pm CDT Sunday, June 24, 2001 at
Wilson Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Glenwood
Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday, June 23, 2001
from 7 - 9pm CDT at the funeral home.

Survivors include her Husband; David A Clary of Tampa, FL
Sisters; Rita Dean and Irene Dean Deason

Mrs. Ruby Shigley Daniel age 93 of Mentone, AL passed away Sunday,
June 24, 2001 in Tuscaloosa, AL. Mrs. Daniel was born March 31, 1908
in Dekalb County, AL., daughter of the late Henry Frank and Rebecca Melissa
Shigley. She was a member of the Mentone United Methodist Church. U. M. W.
and Rhododendron Garden Club. Her Husband; Robert L. Daniel proceded her
in death (1-26-1998).

Funeral services will be Tuesday, June 26, 2001 at 2pm CDT from
the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. RendellCosand officiating.
Burial will follow in the Little River Cemetery. The family will receive friends
from 12 noon until time of service.

Survivors include her Daughter and Son-in-law; Colleen D. "Bobbie: & Edgar
I. "Bud" Hilderbrand Jr. of Lillian, AL

Mr. Richmond Leon (R.L.) Wood of Fort Payne, AL passed away
Sunday, June 24, 2001 at UAB Hospital in Birmingham, AL
Mr. Wood was born October 16, 1939 son of the late George Homer
and Pearl Snipes Wood. He was employed at BMC Dekalb Hospital
where he worked as a respiratory therapist and a member of Briarwood
Church of the Nazarene, in charge of the Dekalb Co. Prison Fellowship Ministries.

Funeral services will be 11am Tuesday, June 26, 2001 at the Wilson Funeral
Home Chapel with Rev. Tim Davis, Rev. Donnie Hilyer, and Rev. Eulas Hughes
officiating. Burial will follow in the Hartline Cemetery. The family will accept
flowers or donations made be made to the Dekalb County Prison Fellowship
Ministries.

Survivors include his Wife; Betty Evans Wood
Daughters and Son-in-law; Tabatha and Johnny Ervin
Son and Daughter-in-law; Edwin and Christy Wood of Fort Payne, AL
Grandchildren; Justin and Jade Ervin
Sisters; Betty Wood of Fort Payne, AL., Doris Crane of Alexander, AL.,
and Mary McKenzie of Fort Oglethorpe, GA
Brothers; Jerry Wood of Fort Payne, AL and George Wood of Rhinehart.
