Visitation will be Wednesday, August 21, 2002 from 12noon until 2pm CDT

MRS. CONNIE VIOLA YOUNG THOMAS

Mrs. Connie Viola Young Thomas age 83 of Rainsville, AL passed away Friday, August 23, 2002 at her residence. Funeral service will be Monday, 11am CDT at the Rainsville Funeral Home Chapel with Rev Oron Whitley and Rev. J. B. Pritchett officiating. Burial will follow in the Antioch Cemetery

Mr. Ottis "Sonny" Fairris age 62 of Rainsville, AL passed away Monday, August 26, 2002 at his residence. Funeral service will be Thursday, August 29, 2002 at 11am CDT at the Rainsville Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Larry Hendricks and Rev. Mike Cleckler officiating. Burial will follow in the Straight Creek Cemetery.

MR LARRY EAKINS

Mr. Larry Eakins age 54 of Henagar, AL passed away Wednesday, August 28, 2002

at UAB Hospital in Birmingham, AL. Funeral service will be Friday, August 30, 2002 at 3pm CDT at the Union Grove Baptist Church. The body will lie in state at the church from 2pm until 3pm CDT with Rev. Jimmy Carson officiating. Burial will follow in the Trinity Cemetery.

MRS. BILLIE JEWELL FROST

Mrs. Billie Jewell Frost, age 69 of Flat Rock, AL, passed away Thursday, August 1, 2002 in the Jackson County Nursing Home.

Funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, August 3, 2002 from the Higdon Holiness Church with Rev Edwin Spurgeon officiating. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Park, Bryant, AL. The body will lie in state at the church from 5:30 PM until time of service.

Survivors include: son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Anita Frost of Tunnel Hill, GA; son, Robert Frost of Bryant; daughter and son-in-law, Pat and Randy Holman of Flat Rock; brothers, Earl Barnes of Bryant, and Alfred Barnes of Lake Wales, FL; sisters, Ruby Baker of New Hope, and Ida Pell of Tiftonia, TN; grandchildren, Laci Holman Kassie Holman, Layton Holman, all of Flat Rock, and Heith Frost of Tunnel Hill, GA.

Mrs. Frost was preceded in death by her parents, Joe W. and Lettie Hutchenson Barnes; husband, Floyd Patrick Frost; sisters, Susie Pritchett, Earlene McDonald, and Hattie Barnes.

She was born in Jackson County, AL, and was a member of the Higdon Holiness Church.

MRS. SYNTHA HIGDON

Mrs. Syntha Higdon, age 83 of Higdon, AL passed away Saturday, August 3, 2002 in Memorial Hospital in Chattanooga, TN.

Funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM Tuesday, August 6, 2002 at the Higdon Holiness Church with Rev. Edwin Spurgeon officiating. Burial will follow in Higdon Cemetery. All visitation will be from the Higdon Holiness Church from 3:00 PM Sunday, August 4, 2002 until time of service Tuesday.

Survivors include: son, Wayne Higdon; grandsons Michael and Martin Higdon; four great-grandchildren, Amber, Crystal, Bradly and Branden Higdon, all of Higdon, AL.

Mrs. Higdon was a lifelong resident of Jackson County, AL, and a member of the Higdon Holiness Church. She was preceded in death by: parents, Andrew J. and Maude Harris Millican; husband, Hardie Higdon; brothers, Heskell, Virgil, and Bill Millican; sisters, Aileen Knight, and Hazel McAdams.

MRS. WINNIE D. HOLMES

Mrs.Winnie D. Holmes, age 92 of Chattanooga, TN, formerly of Ider, passed away Wednesday, August 7, 2002 in Chattanooga, TN.

Funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM CST Saturday, August 10, 2002 from Kerby Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ronnie Day and Rev. Anthony Pannell officiating. Burial will follow in Smith's Chapel Cemetery in Ider, AL. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 4-9 PM CST and Saturday from 9 AM until time of service.

Survivors include: son and daughter-in-law, Dan and Phyllis Holmes of Ooltewah, TN; daughter and son-in-law, Sheila and C.E. Wright of Chattanooga, TN; brother, Ronald Pannell of Ider; grandchildren, Zachary Holmes and Dana Everette.

Mrs. Holmes was born in Hamilton County, TN and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Ider. She was preceded in death by her parents, Napoleon and Ida Frances Pannell; brothers, Ray and Oren Pannell; sisters, Avis Vaughn, Ruth Herron, and Una Pannell.

MR. ROYCE CECIL HAIRSTON

Mr. Royce Cecil Hairston, age 59 of Valley Head, AL, passed away Sunday, August 11, 2002 at his residence.

Funeral service will be held at 4:00 PM Monday, August 12, 2002 at the Kerby Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Fred Porter and Rev. James Grindstaff officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. View Memory Gardens in Rainsville, AL with full military honors. The family will receive friends from 4-9 PM Sunday and from 9 AM until time of service Monday.

Survivors include: wife, Carolyn Hairston of Valley Head; mother, Violet Hairston of Fort Payne; sons and daughters-in-law, Roderick and Tracy Hairston of Flat Rock, Chris and Denise Hairston of Hokes Bluff, Ronald and Annette Hairston of Valley Head; brothers, Ira Hairston of Henagar, Howard Hairston of Rainsville, and David Hairston of Fort Payne; grandchildren, Caleb Hairston and Chassidie Hairston; step-grandchildren, Dylan Ward, Chase Ward, Trevor Bass, and Melissa Doss. He was preceded in death by his father, Mr. James Cecil Hairston.

Mr. Hairston was born in Jackson County, AL, was a member of the Stamp Baptist Church, a licensed minister, and a retired disabled Vietnam veteran having served 20 years in the U.S. Army.

MR. ROBERT LEE PEEK

Mr. Robert Lee Peek age 86 of Pisgah, AL (Rosalie Community) passed away Sunday, August 18, 2002 in Jackson County Hospital in Scottsboro, AL

Funeral service will be Monday, August 19, 2002 at 3pm CDT at the Kerby Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Watson Williams and Rev. C. L. Wilburn officiating. Burial will follow in the New Hope Cemetery in Rosalie, AL

Visitation will be Monday from 9am until time of service.

JAMES RYAN KELLETT

James Ryan Kellett, age 26 of Fort Payne, passed away Monday, August 13, 2002. Ryan was born in Fort Payne on July 17, 1976. He was a member of Minvale Baptist Church and a veteran of the United States Army. He was a member of the DeKalb Masonic Lodge #117 F & AM. He was employed my Jim's Pawn Shop.

Survivors include: mother, Renna Odell of Fort Payne; father and step-mother, Craig and Tammy Kellett of Fort Payne; sisters, Katy Tarrant of Fort Payne, and Hannah Kellett of Fort Payne; grandmother, Mable Odell of Fort Payne; grandfather, Bill Kellett of Fort Payne.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, August 16, 2002 from Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Darrell Haney officiating. Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery with graveside Masonic rites. The family will receive friends from 4-8 PM Thursday at the funeral home.

MRS. EDNA DENNIS BEAN

Mrs. Edna Dennis Bean age 62 of Fort Payne, AL passed away Thursday, August 15, 2002 at her residence. Mrs. Bean was born in Oklahoma on July 21, 1939 daughter of the late John and Ruth Nelson Dennis. She was a member of Gault Ave Baptist Church and retired from Johnson Hosiery Mills. Her Husband, Joe Bean preceded her in death on March 27, 2001

MRS. EDITH JOHNSON SAMPLEY

Mrs. Edith Johnson Sampley age 79 of Fort Payne, AL passed away Sunday, August 25, 2002 at BMC Dekalb Hospital in Fort Payne, AL, Mrs. Sampley was born in Amory , MS on March 28, 1923, daughter of the late Edward and Bessie Grizzel Johnson

Graveside service will be 3 pm CDT Tuesday, August 27, 2002 in Glenwood Cemetery with Rev. Larry haynes officiating.

Survivors include her Daughters; Jo Ann Massey of Valley Head, AL., and Armenda Mae Goforth of Fort Payne, AL

MRS. MABLE BRISENDINE

Mrs. Mable Brisendine age88 of Fort Payne, AL passed away Thursday, August 29, 2002 at her residence. Mrs. Brisendine was a native of Dekalb County, AL, the daughter of the Earnest and Nancy Renfroe. She was a member of the Union Hill Baptist Church, and the Union Hill WMU.

Funeral service will be 2pm CDT Saturday, August 30, 2002 at the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jim Griffin officiating. Burial will follow in the Union Hill Cemetery.
