Betty Jane Maddox

Betty Jane Maddox age 88 of Guin, AL died Friday October 13, 2006 at the Sunset Manor Nursing Home in Guin, AL.

She was born in Marion County to the late William Cornelius and Eva Hollis Estes and the wife of the late Albert S. Maddox. She was a member of the Eastern Star and also a member of the Guin First Baptist Church. She was owner and operator of the Guin Western Auto Store for over forty years.

Survived by Two Sons: Bill (Billie) Maddox of Cullman, AL, Max (Cheryl) Maddox of Guin, AL, One Sister: Murtie Bell Cunningham of Guin, AL, Five Grandchildren and Six Great-Grandchildren.

Services held Sunday October 15, 2006 at 2:00 P.M. from the Norwood Funeral Home

Charlie E. Otts

Charlie E. Otts age 89 of Sulligent, AL died Thursday, February 1, 2007 at the Marion Regional Medical Center in Hamilton, AL.

Born in Lamar County to the late Posie and Avie Lockhart Otts and the husband of the late Lucile Williams Otts. He was a life long resident of Lamar County and a member of the DePriest Chapel Freewill Baptist Church. He was a farmer for many years and had worked and retired from Hyster Company from the Assembly Department.

Survived by Four Daughters: Avie Lou ( J.B.) Heard of Gattman, MS, Emma Jane Jackson and Mildred (Jack) Lowery all of Sulligent, AL and Hilda Nolen of Hamilton, AL, Two Sons: Earlie (Glennice) Otts of Vernon, AL and Jerry (Sandra) Otts of Sulligent, AL, Three Sisters: Christine Johnson of Yazoo City, MS, Lelia Belle Smith of Arkansas, Dovie Mae Edwards of Amory, MS, Three Brothers; Manuel Otts of Birmingham, AL, A.W. Otts of Texas, and Tommy (Jewel) Otts of Sulligent, AL, Nineteen Grandchildren, Twenty Three Great Grandchildren, and Two Great – Great Grandchildren. One Step Son: Tommy (Ninnie) Robertson of Guin, AL and One Step Daughter: Annette Bobo of Guin, AL.

Preceded in death by his Parents, Wife: Lucile Williams Otts, Second Wife: Rosa Otts, a Daughter: Kathleen Lee, a Grandson: Wayne Lee.

Services held Sunday, February 4, 2007 at 2:00 P.M. from the Norwood Funeral Home Chapel with burial in the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery. Bro. Bill Duncan and Bro. Whalon Jones officiating.

Grandsons were pallbearers.

Visitation Saturday, February 3, 2007 at the Funeral Home from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M.

Mildred (Molly) Springfield

Mildred (Molly) Springfield age 95 of Guin, AL died Tuesday January 30, 2007 at her residence.

Born in Guin, Alabama she is the Daughter of the late Roy B. and Hattie Paul Baird Sr. and the Wife of the late Joseph Paul Springfield. She had lived in Guin all of her life. She graduated from Marion County High School in 1929 where she played Softball and Volleyball. She graduated from Montevallo in 1934 with a degree in Elementary Education and taught in Guin Elementary School for 10 years. She was a member of the Guin First Baptist Church.

She is survived by Two Nieces, Sally Bolling of Fayette, AL and Beverly Baird Barton of Petal, MS and Five Nephews, Eddy Pearce of Hamilton, AL, Carey Baird of Birmingham, AL, Tim Baird of State College, PA, Tony Baird of New Braunfels, TX and Ben Baird of Northport, AL.

Services held Friday, February 2, 2007 at 11:00 AM from the Guin First Baptist Church with Burial in the Guin City Cemetery. Bro. Scott Stokes and Bro. Heath Yielding officiating.

Visitation Friday, February 2, 2007 10 - 11 am at the church.

Verla Stovall Martin

Verla Stovall Martin age 94 of Guin, AL died Friday, January 26, 2007 in the Daniel Health Care Center in Fulton, MS.

Born in Hackleburg, AL. She is the Daughter of the late James C. and Della Rebecca Stephens Stovall and the Wife of the late Herbert Preston Martin. She had lived in Guin most of her life, was a Nurse and was a member of the Guin First United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Dorcas Group.

She is survived by Two Daughters, Joyce (L.C.) Fowler of Hamilton, AL and Gloria (Robert) Pyron of Guin, AL, 6 Grandchildren and 10 Great Grandchildren. A Sister, Annis S. Rutland of Tupelo, MS.

She was also preceded in death by her Husband, Herbert Preston Martin and A Son, James Merrill Beasley.

Services held Saturday, January 27, 2007 at 2:00 PM from the Norwood Funeral Home Chapel with Burial in the Guin City Cemetery. Bro. Art Rowe and Bro. Preston Headrick officiating.

Visitation Saturday January 27, 2007 from 1 - 2 at the funeral home.
