Charles Lee Johnson

57, machine operator, Moulton

Funeral for Charles Lee Johnson, who died Thursday, November 20, 1997, at Decatur General Hospital, was held Saturday, November 22. The 2 p.m. service was held at Shelton Funeral Home with Rev. Jackie Shelton officiating.

Burial was in the Roselawn Cemetery.

Mr. Johnson was born in Morgan County to Willie Horace and Mary Magdaline Cagle Johnson.

He was a member of Mount Zion Masonic Lodge, the Cahaba Shrine Temple, VFW Post #4190 and the American Legion. Mr. Johnson was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He was employed by Delphi Saginaw.

He is survived by his wife, Ozelle Barnes Johnson; one daughter, Gwendolyn Keefer of Fayette, Ohio; two stepsons, Milton Barnes and Bobby Barnes, both of Moulton; one brother, Don W. Johnson of Scott Depot, W.Va.; one grandchild; and six step-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Wayne Johnson, Jim Keefer, W.G. Wright, Larry Sepanski, Milton Barnes and Bobby Barnes.

Honorary pallbearers were members of the Buffoon Unit of the Cahaba Shrine Temple, Huntsville.

John Lewis Sims Sr.

89, retired equipment operator, Danville

John Lewis Sims Sr. died Saturday, November 22, 1997, at NHC Healthcare Center.

The funeral was held Monday, November 24, 1 p.m., at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. Jack Bailey officiating.

Burial was in the Johnson Chapel Cemetery.

Mr. Sims was born in Lawrence County. He was retired from the Alabama Department of Transportation and was a member of Danville Baptist Church.

Survivors include one son, John Lewis Sims Jr.; two daughters, Linda Martin Sims of Florence and Margaret Grissom of Youngville, N.C.; and five grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Lowell Martin, Donald Morris, James Kyle Lindsey, John Tanner, Hugh Fitzgerald and Kenneth Narrell.

Clyde Corbin Bass

77, retired contractor, Moulton

Funeral for Clyde Corbin Bass was held Friday, November 21, 2 p.m., at Moulton Baptist Church, with Dr. Darryl Wood and Rev. Elmer Fowler officiating.

Burial was in the Moulton Memory Gardens with Elliott Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Bass died Thursday, November 20, 1997, at Lawrence Baptist Medical Center.

He was born in Lawrence County to Walter and Damie Turner Bass. Mr. Bass was a Mason and was a member and deacon at Moulton Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Alice Lee Sivley Bass; four daughters, Sandra Gail Smith and Elizabeth Jo Lewis, both of Moulton, Donna Lorraine Stults of Warrior and Jacqueline Lee Flory of Price ville; two sisters, Nell Johnson of Seattle and Sue Branigan of Winlock, Wash.; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Deacons of Moulton Baptist Church were the pallbearers.

The men's Sunday school class at Moulton Baptist Church served as honorary pallbearers.

Janet "Jan" Carolyn McMinn

64, homemaker, Trinity

Funeral for Janet "Jan" Carolyn McMinn, who died Saturday, November 22, 1997, at her home, was held Tuesday, November 25. The 2 p.m. service was held at Price ville Funeral Home with the Revs. James W. McMinn and James Lockard officiating.

Burial was in the Roselawn Cemetery.

Mrs. McMinn was born in Eva and was a member of Faith Independent Baptist Church in Falkville.

She is survived by her husband, James H. McMinn; two sons, Jamie McMinn of Falkville and Jeff McMinn of Decatur; one daughter, Lynne Gilliam of Decatur; one sister, Gayle Cox of Falkville; and six grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Neil Ellis, Robbie Richard, Christopher Gilliam, Mike Price, Cliff Cox, John McMinn and Kenneth Webb.

Elders and deacons from Faith Independent Baptist Church were honorary pallbearers.

Barbara T. Glasgow

62, former mayor, Waterloo

Barbara T. Glasgow, a Moulton native, died Wednesday, November 19, 1997, following a lengthy illness.

The funeral was held Saturday, November 22, 11 a.m., at Spry Funeral Home chapel in Florence, with Jack Shelton and Chuck Crawford officiating.

Burial was in the Williams Chapel Cemetery.

Mrs. Glasgow was a Lawrence County High School graduate. She lived most of her life in Waterloo. Mrs. Glasgow was a member, a Sunday school teacher and an elder of Williams Chapel Presbyterian Church.

She received a B.S. degree from Florence State Teachers College and M.A. and Ed.S. degrees from the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa.

Mrs. Glasgow had over 30 years of dedicated service as an educator and served 14 years as mayor of Waterloo. She was the administrator of the Waterloo Rural Health Clinic, active on the Boards of The American Red Cross and Safeplace. Mrs. Glasgow was first president of the Alabama Small Rural School Association. She was an active delegate of the National Education Association and served on the Board of Directors of Myasthenia Gravis Association.

Survivors include her husband, Thomas L. Glasgow; a son, Tommy Glasgow of Florence; one daughter, Tina Fletcher of Jackson, Tenn.; her mother, Bertha Thrasher of Moulton; four brothers, Doug Thrasher of Killen, Steve Thrasher of Meridian, Miss. Dwayne Thrasher of Hazlegreen and Ronald Thrasher of Moulton; and one grandchild.

Pallbearers were Tim Thrasher, Ronnie Sweda, Andy Fowler, Shannon Haggard, Nelson Parker, Robert Smith, Kenny Chafin, Tommy Ray, Mike Stamps and Scott Miller.

Honorary pallbearers were Terry Anderson, David Winborn, Dennis Sherrer, Dr. Rheddy, Dr. Bartmess and Dr. Sanders.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Myasthenia Gravis Foundation, A.L.S. "Lou Gehrigs" Foundation or American Red Cross.

Mattie Beatrice Tubb

76, homemaker, Moulton

Funeral for Mattie Beatrice Tubb was held Wednesday, December 3, 2 p.m., at Lawrence Funeral Home chapel with Phillip Nicholas, Calvin Jones, Harold Letson and Jan McCarver officiating.

Burial was in the Mount Hope Methodist Cemetery.

Mrs. Tubb died Sunday, November 30, 1997, at Decatur General Hospital.

She was born in Lawrence County to Charlie and Mattie Buttram and was a member of the Church of Christ. Mrs. Tubb was the widow of Rudolph Tubb.

She is survived by two daughters, Anna Sue Blankenship of Mount Hope and Sarah Jane Smith of Moulton; a sister, Anna Jo Smith of Russellville; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Grandsons were the pallbearers.

Veeda Kay Akhondmirza

35, homemaker, Trinity

Funeral for Veeda Kay Akhondmirza was held Wednesday, December 3, 2 p.m., at Parkway Funeral Home chapel with Charles Claborn officiating.

Burial was in the Moulton Memory Gardens.

Mrs. Akhondmirza died Sunday, November 30, 1997, at her residence.

She was born in Lawrence County to Mary Flatt and Odean Kelley.

Survivors include her husband, Nasser Akhondmirza; one son, Jason Davis; her parents and stepfather, Rayburn Flatt; a brother, Rayburn Flatt Jr., two sisters, Shelia Terry and Kimber Blankenship.

Pallbearers were Reza Akhondmirza, Ghasem Paymani, Keith Stricklin, Keith Lee, David Kelso and Joseph Terry.

Brian Lane Thompson

13, L.C.H.S. student, Moulton

Funeral for Brian Lane Thompson was held Friday, November 28, 2 p.m., at Lawrence Funeral Home with the Rev. Phil Willingham officiating.

Burial was in the Moulton Memory Gardens.

Brian died Tuesday, November 25, 1997, in Lawrence County.

He was born in Tennessee to Randall and Crystal Thompson. Brian was a member of New Life Assembly of God Church and an eight-grader at Lawrence County High School.

He is survived by his parents; one brother, Matthew Alan Thompson of Moulton; one sister, Catherine Elaine Thompson of Florida; his grandparents; Walter and Susie Johnson of Tennessee and Christine Thompson of Florida; and his great-grandmother, Doris Johnson of Tennessee.

Uncles were the pallbearers.
