Elmer Baker Terry

84, Carpenter, Courtland

Funeral for Elmer Baker Terry, who died Monday, October 13, 1997, at Helen Keller Memorial Hospital, is today (Thursday), October 16. The 2 p.m. service will be at Courtland Methodist Church with David Nelson officiating.

Burial is to be in the Courtland City Cemetery with Elliott Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Terry was born in Lawrence County to the late Benny Lee and Beulah Blaxton Terry. He had worked as a carpenter for TVA, Browns Ferry. Mr. Terry was a member of the Courtland Methodist Church and a U.S. Army veteran.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Virgie Terry.

Survivors include three daughters, Nadine Loosier of Courtland, Sue Peebles and Ann Conner, both of Town Creek; two sons, J.L. Terry of Kentucky and Mike Terry of Courtland; two brothers, Hansel Terry and Malcolm Terry, both of Moulton; 16 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.

Nephews will be the pallbearers.

Roy J. Houston

79, retired Wolverine Tube, Town Creek

Funeral for Roy J. Houston, who died Monday, October 13, 1997, at Decatur General Hospital, was held Wednesday, October 15, at Lawrence Funeral chapel. The 2 p.m. service was officiated by the Revs. Roger Houston, Kenny Martin and Ken Dunivant.

Burial was in the Cave Springs Freewill Baptist Cemetery.

He was born in Lawrence County to Thomas and Mary Adaline Houston. Mr. Houston was a member and deacon of New Zion Baptist Church and was a member of the Adult Men's Sunday School Class. He had retired from Wolverine after 23 years of service.

Survivors include his wife, Eloise Fretwell Houston; a son, Roger Houston of Town Creek; a daughter, Shelby Morris of Decatur; one brother, Aubra Houston of Sarasota, Fla.; and two grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Jason Houston, Tommy Hughey, Steve Houston, Tommy Appleton, Jerry Appleton, Wendell Houston, Tony Burks and Don Houston. Honorary pallbearers were deacons of New Zion Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to New Zion Baptist Church piano fund.

Becky V. Emerson

49, Times Daily carrier, Town Creek

Becky Virginia Hudson Emerson died Wednesday, October 8, 1997.

The funeral was held Friday, October 10, 11 a.m., at the Spry Funeral Home chapel with burial in Tri-Cites Memorial Gardens. The Revs. Philip Willingham and Dennis Inman officiated.

She was born to the late Jolly and Eula Hudson in Winston County.

Mrs. Emerson was a member of New Life Assembly of God in Moulton, a graduate of Rogers High School and was a Children's Missionette Sponsor.

Survivors include her husband, Donald Emerson; two daughters, Vickie Emerson Romans and Tracie Lynette Emerson, both of Town Creek; a stepson, Anthony Wayne Emerson, Russellville; two sisters, Sherry Miller of Killen and Hazel Lyons of Haleyville; 10 brothers, Bill Hudson, Jake Hudson, Sam Hudson, Mickey Hudson, Don Terry Hudson, Jimmy Dale Hudson, Ricky Hudson and Freddy Hudson, all of Florence, Barry Hudson of Russellville, Skippy Hudson of Washington, D.C.; two grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Randy Lyons, Anthony Miller, Ross Hudson, Teddy Hudson, Jerron Emerson and Shannon Emerson.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Leukemia Society of America.

Hal D. Mitchell

86, retired Ford Motor Co., Florence

Funeral for former Mount Hope resident, Hal D. Mitchell, was held Friday, October 10, at Elkins Funeral Home chapel in Florence. Sid Fulford officiated. Entombment was in the Tri-Cites Memorial Gardens.

He died Wednesday, October 8, 1997, at E.C.M. Hospital in Florence.

Mr. Mitchell had lived in Florence since 1960. He was a member of Sherrod Avenue Church of Christ.

He is survived by his wife, Era Beatrice Mitchell; a son, Young McKelvey of Rogersville; tow sisters, Beulah Crosswhite of Tuscumbia and Mamie McAfee of Mount Hope; two grandsons; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Doug Murphy, Bill Mitchell, Robert Gamble, Neal Cross, Lloyd Newton, Steven Letson, Bill Watson, Dick Mitchell and Edgar Mitchell.

Memorials may be made to the Sherrod Avenue Church of Christ Building Fund, 1207 Sherrod Avenue., Florence, Al. 35630 or the Cancer Society.

Jimmy R. Mardis

49, Town Creek

Jimmy R. Mardis died Friday, October 10, 1997.

A graveside service was held Sunday, October 12, 10 a.m., at Elmwood Cemetery in Town Creek with Morrison Funeral Home in Tuscumbia directing. The Rev. Mike McCollough officiated.

Mr. Mardis was a native of Colbert County. He was a member of Donald Baptist Church. Mr. Mardis sang with the Servants Quartet for a number of years.

He is survived by his mother, Christine Mardis; two sons, Stephen Mardis and Timothy Mardis, both of Town Creek; a daughter, Christy Mardis of Town Creek; two brothers, Bobby Mardis of Leighton and Don Martis of Town Creek; and one grandchild.

Gladys Earline Grimes

71, homemaker, Town Creek

Funeral for Gladys Earline Grimes was held Saturday, October 11, 2 p.m., at Bethany Baptist Church with the Rev. Milton Burch officiating.

Burial was in the adjacent cemetery with Elliott Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Grimes died Thursday, October 9, 1997, at her home.

She was born in Lawrence County.

Survivors include three sons, Rayburn Grimes, Dale Grimes and Freddy Grimes, all of Town Creek; one daughter, Judy Hart of Town Creek; one brother, Dennis Waldrep of Colbert County; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Grandsons and nephews were the pallbearers.

Dorothy Robinson

73, homemaker, Moulton

Funeral for Dorothy Robinson, who died Tuesday, October 7, 1997, at Lawrence Baptist Medical Center, was held Saturday, October 11, noon at Main Street Church of Christ, Marvin Turney officiated.

Burial was in the Moulton Cemetery with Reynolds Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Robinson was born in Lawrence County to Bennie and Velma Snyder Robinson. She was a member of Byler Road Church of Christ.

She is survived by three sons, Henry Davis Jr. of Lyndenville, N.Y., Bennie Davis of Huntsville and Lance Cpl. Pink L. Davis of Okinawa, Japan; and two daughters, Nattie Davis of Lyndenville and Sue Davis of Moulton.

Pallbearers were Clarence Holmes, Barry Brackins, Norman Sharpley, Carl Johnson, Curtis Jackson, James Holmes and Frank Griffin.

Elizabeth Hamilton

Portage, Mich.

Elizabeth Hamilton died Sunday, October 12, 1997, at her home.

The service is today (Thursday), October 16, 2 p.m., at the Church of God-Family Worship Center in Kalamazoo, Mich., with the Rev. H.D. Spivey officiating.

Entombment will be in the Mt. Ever-Rest Mausoleum.

She was born in Powell County, Kentucky to Sarah Alice Towsend of Clay City, Ky. and the late George W. Towsend.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Theo Hamilton.

Survivors include a daughter, Sharolyn M. Hamilton of Portage; a son, Lewis D. Hamilton of Kalamazoo; her mother; a grandson; two brothers, Andrew Towsend and Charles Towsend, both of Stanton, Ky.; seven sisters, Ida Mae McKenzie and Sandra Shuler, both of Clay City, Mandy Lou Hensley and Malinda Frances Houghton, both of Kalamazoo, Ethel Lee Shepperd of Portage, Barbara Giles of Georgetown, Ky. and Joyce Rugg of Vicksburg; nieces, nephews and cousins.

Memorials may be made to the Church of God-Family Worship Center, 5841 East H. Avenue, Kalamazoo, Mich., 49004.
