Walter J. Battle
The Rev. Walter J. Battle, 81, of Huntsville died Saturday at a local hospital. The funeral will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Phillips CME Church with Elder Perey Jackson officiating.
Burial will be in Valhalla Memory Gardens with Royal Funeral Home in charge.
Survivors include two stepdaughters, Charlotte K. Strong and Clara M. Morris, both of Huntsville; two stepsons, the Rev. David Kelly and Joe Kelly, both of Huntsville; one sister, Lorene Woods of Huntsville; one brother, Andrew Battle of Huntsville; and 24 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
His body will be at the church one hour before the funeral.

Jewel W. Bell
MILL CREEK, Tenn. - Jewel W. Bell, 83, died Saturday. The funeral was today at 11 a.m. at Rudder Funeral Home in Stevenson with the Rev. Jim Warren officiating.
Burial was in Stevenson City Cemetery.
Mrs. Bell was a legal secretary for 27 years and a member of the Cedars Church of Christ.
Survivors include two daughters, Betty Rose Bell of Cleveland, Tenn., and Martha B. Colyer of Mill Creek; one sister, Martha June Smith of Huntsville, Ala.; one brother, Jack L. Whitehead of Chattanooga; and two grandchildren.
Memorial donations may be made to the youth ministry of Cedars Church of Christ.

Eula Brooks
Eula Brooks, 74, of Huntsville died Monday at a local hospital. The funeral will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Valley Fellowship Church with Pastors Greg Simon and Carol Simon officiating.
Entombment will be in Valhalla Memory Gardens with Valhalla Funeral Home in charge.
Mrs. Brooks was a member of Valley Fellowship Church, the founder of Landmark Real Estate in 1958, the first female Huntsville Board of Realtors president in 1971, a member of the First Bank of Childersburgs board of directors and a founding member of Valley Fellowship Church. She was also the founder of the Multiple Listing System.
Survivors include one daughter, Phyllis Seale of Hoover; two sons, Robert L. Brooks and Everett S. Brooks, both of Huntsville; and seven grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, two nieces and two nephews.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial donations may be made to Valley Fellowship Church Building Fund.
Her body will be at the church one hour before the funeral.

John S. Cave
MADISON - John Shannon Cave, 33, died Monday at a local hospital. The graveside service will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Valhalla Memory Gardens with Chaplain Paul L. Vicalvi officiating.
Entombment will be in Valhalla Memory Gardens with Valhalla Funeral Home in charge.
Mr. Cave was a member of Metropolitan Community Church of Huntsville and worked at Best Buy.
Survivors include his parents, John and Terry Cave of Huntsville; one sister, Sharon C. Miller of Jennings, La.; one brother, Jere Cave of Huntsville; his life partner, William Burks of Madison; and one niece.
Visitation will be today from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Bernice J. Davis
GUNTERSVILLE - Bernice Janene Davis, 69, of 1618 Wyeth Drive died Saturday at a Nashville hospital. The funeral was today at 11 a.m. at First Methodist Church in Guntersville.
Private burial arrangements are being handled by Carr Funeral Home.
Survivors include her husband, William A. ''Bill Davis; two daughters, Virginia Pappafotis of Tennessee and Jan Penland of Jacksonville; one son, William A. Davis III of Nashville; and one brother, Gerald Noffsinger Jr. of Tennessee.

Mary E. Flippo
OWENS CROSS ROADS - Mary Elizabeth Flippo, 77, of 615 Piney Woods Road died Sunday at a Huntsville nursing home. The funeral was to be today at 1 p.m. at New Hope Funeral Home chapel with G.W. Atchley officiating.
Burial was to be in Moon Cemetery.
Survivors include two daughters, Mary Linda Sue Compton of Somerville and Odell Suggs of Addisonville; one son, Benny Kimbrough of Owens Cross Roads; and nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Wilford G. Hill
Wilford Glaydon "Will" Hill, 53, of Huntsville died Monday at a local hospital. The funeral will be Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at Huntsville Holiness Church with the Rev. David Jones officiating.
Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery with Spry Funeral Home in charge.
Mr. Hill was a native of Jefferson County and had lived in Huntsville seven years. He was a retired Navy master chief with 30 years of service. He worked for the Madison County Board of Education and was a member of Huntsville Holiness Church.
Survivors include his wife, Marie Hill of Huntsville; two sons, Randy Hill and Jerry Hill, both of Huntsville; his mother, Evelyn Hill of Arkansas; and four sisters and four brothers.
Visitation will be today from 5 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Laura Hyatt
ARAB - Laura Hyatt, 97, died Monday at her home. The funeral will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Arab.
Burial will be in Arab Memorial Cemetery with Gober Funeral Home of Arab in charge.
Survivors include three daughters, Evelyn Smith of Huntsville, Christine Bagwell of Florida and Judy Reid of Arab; one son, Max Hyatt of Arab; and 16 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be today at 6 p.m.

Peggy A. Jones
Peggy Ann Jones, 64, of Hampton Cove in Huntsville died Sunday at a local hospital. The memorial service will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at First Christian Church.
Laughlin Service Funeral Home will be in charge of burial arrangements.
Mrs. Jones was a native of Wytheville, Va., and, after marrying her husband, moved to California in 1953 and raised two sons. She and her husband moved to Huntsville in 1994 and were raising a granddaughter.
Survivors include her husband, Robert Jones of Huntsville; two sons, Richard Jones of Redding, Calif., and Howard Jones of Hollytree; and four grandchildren and several cousins.
Memorial donations may be made to American Cancer Society.

Martha Kilpatrick
BOAZ - Martha Jo Sitz Kilpatrick, 77, of 2225 Bruce Road died Sunday at a Birmingham hospital. The funeral was to be today at 2 p.m. at Carr Funeral Home in Boaz.
Burial was to be in Hillcrest Cemetery.
Survivors include one daughter, Judy Teague of Albertville; one son, Jimmy Kilpatrick; two half-sisters, Hazel Hamlin and Patsy Porter, both of Gadsden; and seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Fredrick A. King
Fredrick A. "Freddie" King, 50, of Huntsville died Monday. The memorial service will be Wednesday at 6 p.m. at Spry Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. James Young officiating.
Mr. King was a native of Decatur but spent most his life in Huntsville. He was a graduate of Austin High School, a musician and a song writer.
Survivors include his wife, Gloria P. King of Huntsville; two daughters, Leah King of Somerville and Heather King of Decatur; and his mother, Bertha Sue Edwards of Huntsville.

Ruby C. Lewis
WOODVILLE - Ruby Cornelison Lewis, 72, died Sunday. The funeral was to be today at 2 p.m. at Letcher Church of God with the Revs. William Ikard and Griel Smith officiating.
Burial was to be in Gold Cemetery with Scottsboro Funeral Home in charge.
Survivors include one daughter, Linda Bohannon of Henagar; one son, Glenn Lewis of Skyline; two sisters, Bicy Smith of Stevenson and Ruth Lusk of Scottsboro; and five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Ophelia McElroy
BAILEYTON - Ophelia McElroy, 79, of Baileyton died Monday at a Cullman hospital. The funeral was to be today at 2 p.m. at Welcome Missionary Baptist Church in Baileyton.
Burial was to be in the adjoining cemetery with Gober Funeral Home of Arab in charge.
Survivors include four sons, Delton McElroy of Cullman, Leon McElroy and Bill McElroy, both of Baileyton, and James McElroy of North Walter; one brother, Horace Pesnell of Florida; and seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Hortense C. Means
Hortense C. Means, 78, of Huntsville died Monday at a local hospital. The funeral will be Wednesday at noon at Saltillo Cemetery in Saltillo, Miss., with Tom Reynolds officiating.
Spry Funeral Home will be in charge of burial.
Mrs. Means was a native of Reform and had lived in Saltillo before moving to Huntsville in 1982. She was retired from South Central Bell and was preceded in death by her husband, John W. Means Jr.
Survivors include one son, John W. Means III of Huntsville; one daughter, Dorothy E. "Dotty" Baker of Hattiesburg, Miss.; and three sisters and two brothers.
Visitation will be today from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

William D. Romine
ATHENS - William Darrence Romine, 55, of 17408 Blackburn Road died Monday at his home. The funeral will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at McConnell Funeral Home with Derril Robertson officiating.
Burial will be in Sandlin Cemetery.
Mr. Romine was a member of the Church of Christ and a U.S. Air Force veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Sandra Elaine Romine; two daughters, Donna Lea Stewart and Victoria Rutherford, both of Athens; one son, Dewayne Romine of Athens; four sisters, Marie McLemore and Nita McLemore, both of Rogersvillle, June Craig and Agnes Spry, both of Athens; two brothers, James Malcolm Romine of Sheffield and Thomas Douglas Romine of Indianapolis; and three grandchildren.

Vera Steiger
HARVEST - Vera Ann Pitts Steiger, 63, of Clutts Road died Sunday at her home. The funeral will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Gallant Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. William Archer officiating.
Burial will be in Charity Cemetery.
Mrs. Steiger was a native of Madison County, a housewife and a member of Community Baptist Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Sherry A. Childers of Harvest; three sons, Ricky T. Rozell and Anthony R. Rozell, both of Harvest, and Rockey R. Rozell of Athens; two sisters, Jerri Garrison and Jean Garrison, both of Huntsville; and nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be today from 5 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mary A. Thomas
NEW MARKET - Mary Ann Thomas, 51, of Deer Trace Parkway died Sunday at a Fayetteville, Tenn., nursing home. The funeral will be Wednesday at 3 p.m. at New Sharon Cemetery with the Revs. Billy Moore and Sonny Moore officiating.
Gallant Funeral Home will be in charge of burial.
Mrs. Thomas was a native of Madison County, a housewife and a member of Old Center Baptist Church in Jackson County.
Survivors include her husband, Billy W. Thomas of New Market; one son, Brad Thomas of New Market; and one sister, Bessie Ann Wessell of Jamesville, Wis.
Visitation will be today from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Saddie Toney
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Saddie Toney, formerly of Huntsville, died Friday. Funeral arrangements will be announced later.

Vertie L. Williams
NEW HOPE - Vertie Lee Williams, 81, of 243 Maple Road died Sunday at a local hospital. The funeral was today at 11 a.m. at New Hope Funeral Home chapel. A graveside service will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Malden Memorial Park with Bro. J.B. Whitaker officiating.
Survivors include three sons, Jacob O. Brown and Tommy Brown, both of Brownsboro, and Ralph L. Brown of New Hope; three sisters, Verna Cameron of Parma, Mo., Myrtle Parks of Russelville, Ark., and Eula Mae Ruby of Eureka, Calif.; and six grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Walter Wilson
Walter "Bob" Wilson, 42, of Huntsville died Sunday at his home. The funeral will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Spry Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Coy Hallmark officiating.
Mr. Wilson was a native of Jefferson County and had lived in Huntsville more than 10 years. He was an inspector for the Jefferson County Department of Health and was a member of First United Methodist Church of Huntsville. He was an Auburn University graduate.
Survivors include his wife, June Wilson of Huntsville; his mother, Evelyn Wilson of Birmingham; one sister, Bea Cotellis of Bradenton, Fla.; one brother, Burl Wilson of Birmingham; and two nieces.
Visitation will be today from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial donations may be made to First United Methodist Church; the local welfare fund, 120 Green St. in Huntsville; the Greater Huntsville Humane Society, 2812 Johnson Road, 35805; or the American Association of University Women Educational Foundation.

James C. Wisener
James Coy Wisener, 72, of Huntsville died Monday at his home. The funeral will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at Spry Funeral Home chapel.
Burial will be in Holly Pond Cemetery.
Mr. Wisener was a native of Cullman County and had lived in Huntsville 11 years. He was retired from Eastern Airlines and was the owner and operator of the Vieux Carre Lounge in Huntsville and former owner and operator of the Quest Club in Birmingham.
Survivors include his special friend, William Armstrong of Huntsville; two sons, Larve Wisener and James Randy Wisener, both of Huntsville; two brothers, Ermer Wisener and J.D. Wisener, both of Hollypond; and two grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
