Jack S. Alspaugh
FRIENDSWOOD, Texas - Jack S. Alspaugh, 70, died Aug. 3 at a Texas hospital. The funeral was Thursday at Houston National Cemetery.
Forest Park East Funeral Home of Webster, Texas, was in charge of burial.
Mr. Alspaugh was formerly of Huntsville, Ala. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary E. Alspaugh.
Survivors include his wife, D.M. Alspaugh of Friendswood; three sons, Jack Gary Alspaugh of Dallas, Texas, Kevin Randall Alspaugh of Huntsville and Todd Brian Alspaugh; one brother, Mark Henry Alspaugh of Denver, Colo.; one sister, Gloria Stiles of Florence; and three grandchildren and three stepdaughters.
Memorial donations may be made to the Friendswood United Methodist Church Pipe Organ Fund, 204 West Edgewood, Friendswood, Texas, 77546.

Fred O. Brown Jr.
CONNELLY, SPRINGS, N.C. - Fred Ossa Brown Jr., 64, of Knob Hill Drive died Saturday at a North Carolina hospital. The funeral will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Family Funeral Care Kirksey Chapel in Valdese, N.C., with the Rev. Jeff Brown officiating.
Burial will be Point Loma Cemetery in San Diego, Calif.
Survivors include his wife, Amy Anderson Brown of Connelly Springs; four sons, Fred Ossa Brown III of Lake Tahoe, Calif., Josiah Roger Brown and Jason Evan Brown, both of Icard, N.C., and Jeremiah Lee Brown of Lenoir, N.C.; three daughters, Brenda Ashurst of Chula Vista, Calif., Dorothy Farmes of San Jacinto, Calif., and Sarah Brown of Connelly Springs; one brother, Howard Brown of Hildebran, N.C.; three sisters, Peggy Mooney of Huntsville, Ala., Carolyn Moore of Langston, Va., and Vera Johnston of Lacys Spring; and nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Visitation will be today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Beatrice S. Buckelew
ALBERTVILLE - Beatrice Sims Buckelew, 69, died Sunday in Altoona. The funeral was to be today at 2 p.m. at Albertville Funeral Home chapel with Bros. Houston Cookston and D.V. Harper officiating.
Burial was to be in Bethany Cemetery.
Survivors include three sons, Randy Buckelew of Altoona and Jimmy Buckelew and Chris Buckelew, both of Albertville; one brother, Almond Sims of Albertville; and two grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Archie J. Burson
HARTSELLE - Archie J. Burson, 72, of 1926 U.S. 31 North died Sunday at a local hospital. The funeral was to be today at 3 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Hammond officiating.
Burial was to be in Burningtree Memorial Cemetery.
Mr. Burson was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Huntsville and a U.S. Army veteran of World War III and the Korean War. He retired as a sergeant first class with 21 years service and was a retired civil service employee with the Army Missile Command at Redstone Arsenal.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia L. Burson; four sons, Tony M. Burson of Cullman, Bradie L. Burson of Newport News, Va., and Gary G. Burson and Archie J. Burson, both of Savannah, Ga.; two daughters, Euna M. Lancaster of Charlotte and Carolyn Cooper of Hartselle; one brother, Earnest Burson of Monroe, La.; two sisters, Marilyn Chrysel of Houston, Texas, and Maurell Thurman of Monroe, La.; and seven grandchildren.

Annie M. Carter
PULASKI, Tenn. - Annie Mai Carter, 85, died Monday at a Pulaski nursing home. The funeral will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Woodlawn Cemetery in Nashville with Byron Davis officiating.
Limestone Chapel Funeral Home is in charge of burial.
Survivors include one son, Lucian C. Carter Jr. of Dallas, Ga.; three sisters, Alice Wilkes Rogers and Margaret Wilkes Jones, both of Athens, and Helen Wilkes Hill of Ardmore, Tenn.; and two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be today from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Wesley S. Carter
DECATUR - Wesley Shelby Carter of 1208 Brookline Ave. died Tuesday at a local hospital. Limestone Chapel Funeral Home will announce funeral arrangements.

Flossie I. Collins
Flossie I. Collins, 91, of Huntsville died Monday at her home. The funeral will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Bethany United Methodist Church in Stewartville with Dr. Jimmy Jackson and the Rev. Joyce Woodstuff officiating.
Burial will be in Macedonia Cemetery in Stewartville with Laughlin Service Funeral Home in charge.
Mrs. Collins was a native of Coosa County and had lived in Birmingham 12 years before moving to Huntsville in 1996. She taught adult Sunday school at Bethany United Methodist Church for 35 years. She joined Mountain Chapel United Methodist Church in Birmingham in 1983 and was active in volunteer programs there. She attended Whitesburg Baptist Church in Huntsville when her health permitted.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Ivey Collins, and one son, Cpl. John Ivey "J.I." Collins.
Survivors include two daughters, Shirley Culver of Birmingham and Jeanette Ferguson of Huntsville; and three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Memorial donations may be made to Bethany United Methodist Church.
Visitation will be Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. at the church.

Mary G. Collins
Mary Gnann Collins, 70, of Huntsville died today at a local hospital. A private memorial service will be held later.
Laughlin Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Collins was a member of Highlands United Methodist Church, the American Legion Auxiliary for 60 years and was a substitute math teacher at Butler High School.
Survivors include her husband, Charles L. Collins of Huntsville; one son, Patrick A. Collins of Huntsville; and one brother, Joseph Leon Gnann of Savannah, Ga.

Joe F. Hopkins
SOMERVILLE - Joe Fred Hopkins, 52, died Monday at a local hospital. Price ville Funeral Home will announce funeral arrangements.

Charles W. Knight Jr.
Charles Wrenshall "Chip" Knight Jr., 51, of Huntsville died Sunday at his home. The graveside service will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Maple Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Kerry Holder Sibold officiating.
Laughlin Service Funeral Home is in charge of burial.
Mr. Knight was a graduate of Vanderbilt University and a retired grants coordinator for the City of Huntsville. He was a historian and author, a member of the Sons of the American Revolution and Lodge No. 1648 of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks and was featured in the "Whos Who of American Business Leaders 1994-1995."
Survivors include one sister, Jane Knight Lanyon of Birmingham; several cousins, including Robert Bruce Culver of Huntsville; and several aunts and uncles.
Visitation will be today from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Church of the Nativity.
Memorial donations may be made to the Charles Knight Charitable Trust in care of Church of the Nativity Episcopal, 208 Eustis Ave., Huntsville, 35801.

Herman R. McEwen
PETERSBURG, Tenn. - Herman R. McEwen, 91, of 106 Wilson St. died Monday at a Fayetteville, Tenn., nursing home. The funeral will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at McCauley Funeral Home in Petersburg with James Pigg officiating.
Mr. McEwen was a native of Lincoln County, Tenn., and was retired as postmaster for the Petersburg Post Office. He was also a World War II Air Force veteran.
Visitation will be today from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Lionel F. Pinn Sr.
GUNTERSVILLE - Lionel Francis Pinn Sr., 76, of 20 Pinewood Circle died Saturday at a Birmingham hospital. The funeral was today at 11 a.m. at Carr Funeral Home in Guntersville.
Burial will be later in Arlington National Cemetery.
Mr. Pinn was a veteran of World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He was a member of the U.S. Army Special Forces and a Green Beret and was an active member of the National Guard.
He was a member of the Catholic Church, the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Darbys Rangers.
Survivors include his wife, Judy M. Pinn; one daughter, Wenonah Resha of Birmingham; two sons, Lionel Pinn Jr. of Washington state and Kenneth N. Pinn of Cordova; one sister, Joan Flatay of Boston; three brothers, Wally Pinn of Washington, D.C., and Jimmy Pinn and Charles Pinn, both of Massachusetts; and three grandchildren and one great-grandchildren.

James A. Pitman Sr.
ATHENS - James Arnold Pitman Sr., 79, of 15545 Line Road died Monday at his home. A graveside service will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Roselawn Cemetery with McConnell Funeral Home in charge.
Mr. Pitman was a member of Marion Junction Baptist Church, a U.S. Army veteran and a retired farmer.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Pitman; three daughters, Laura Sue Weaver of Smith, Betty Diane Hite of Phoenix and Patricia Ruth Pitman of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; three sons, Billy Lamar of San Antonio, James A. Pitman Jr. and Robert E. Pitman, both of Athens; two sisters, Laura Vertress of Boulder, Colo., and Minnie Lee Swayer of Pensacola; and 16 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Jack M. Rhoda
SCOTTSBORO - Jack M. Rhoda, 66, died Sunday at a Huntsville hospital. The funeral was today at 11 a.m. at Scottsboro Funeral Home with the Rev. Roger Hobbs officiating.
Burial was in Pinehaven Memorial Gardens in Hollywood.
Mr. Rhoda was retired from Mead Containerboard and was a member of the Centerpoint Baptist Church in Scottsboro.
Survivors include his wife, Donna Rhoda; his children, Amy Rhoda Taylor and Mimi Rhoda, both of Tampa, Fla., Teri Adams Flynn of Huntsville, Michael Rhoda of Bradenton, Fla., and Jeffery Flynn of Bridgeport; and four grandchildren.
Memorial donations may be made to the Centerpoint Baptist Church Building Fund or the American Cancer Society.

Jahazy Rooks
Jahazy Rooks, 81, of Huntsville died Sunday at a local hospital. The funeral will be Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at Nelms Memorial Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. John Clay officiating.
Burial will be in Valhalla Memory Gardens.
Survivors include his wife, Lucille Rooks of Huntsville; three sons, Jahazy P. Rooks Jr. of St. Louis, Mo., and Walter Rooks and Malium Rooks, both of Huntsville; one daughter, Shannon Fletcher of Huntsville; and 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be today from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Foundation.

Annie J. Scott
FAYETTEVILLE, Tenn. - Annie Jewell Scott, 83, of 131 Terry Drive died Monday in Kingsport, Tenn. The funeral will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Higgins Funeral Home in Fayetteville with Bro. Houston Bynum officiating.
Burial will be in Riverview Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Scott was a homemaker and a member of Washington Street Church of Christ.
Survivors include two daughters, Lula Mae Skeen of Kingsport and Sonia Faye Detiveaux of Knoxville, Tenn.; one son, Ronald Gene Scott of Fayetteville; two sisters, Claudia Dillard and Shirley Hines, both of Fayetteville; two brothers, Elbert Sullivan of Fayetteville and Edward "Bully" Sullivan of Lynchburg, Tenn.; and seven grandchildren.
Visitation will be today from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Robert L. Underwood
HENAGAR - Robert L. Underwood, 76, died Sunday at a Fort Payne hospital.The funeral will be Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Kerby Funeral Home with the Revs. Watson Williams and Arthur Boydston officiating.
Burial will be in New Hope Cemetery.
Mr. Underwood was preceded in death by one daughter, Wilma Faye Thompson.
Survivors include his wife, Sarah Magdalene Underwood; one daughter, Glenda Sue Underwood of Ider; five sons, Bobby Underwood of Henagar, James Ronald Underwood of Rossville, Ga., Eddie Eugene Underwood, John Harold Underwood and Donald Wayne Underwood, all of Ider; three sisters, Louise Broome and Bertha Mae Kilgore, both of Rossville and Luvada Barnette of Trenton, Ga.; one brother, James Buford Underwood of Rock Springs, Ga.; and 19 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

George L. Wadlington
FOLEY - George Lucius Wadlington, 91, died Sunday. The funeral was today at 10 a.m. at Pine Rest Funeral Home in Foley.
Burial was in Pine Rest Memorial Park.
Mr. Wadlington was formerly of Huntsville and had worked for NASA.
Survivors include his wife, Addie Wadlington of Foley; one son, Steve Wadlington of Monroeville; and two grandchildren.

Ruth Watson
Ruth Watson, 86, of Huntsville died Sunday at a Pulaski, Tenn., nursing home. The funeral will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Valhalla Funeral Home chapel with Bill Cantrell officiating.
Entombment will be in Valhalla Memory Gardens.
Mrs. Watson was a member of East Huntsville Church of Christ for 38 years and a native of Giles County, Tenn.
Survivors include one daughter, Sherry Mercieca of Huntsville; two sisters, Frances West of Lawrenceburg, Tenn., and Margaret Grubbs of Pulaski; and two grandchildren.
Visitation will be Wednesday from noon to 1 p.m. at the funeral home.

Ola L. Wellington
HOLLYWOOD - Ola Lilly Wellington, 81, died Sunday at a Scottsboro hospital. The funeral will be Wednesday at noon at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Hollywood with the Rev. William F. Tibbs officiating.
Burial will be in Loyd Cemetery in Bridgeport with Rudder Funeral Home in charge.
Ms. Wellington was a housekeeper.
Survivors include one sister, Anna Snodgrass of Scottsboro; and one niece, Mary Snodgrass of Hollywood.

Hayden Whatley
ARAB - Hayden Whatley, 86, of 108 1st Ave. Northeast died Monday at a local hospital. The funeral was today at 11 a.m. at Gober Funeral Home in Arab.
Burial was in Arab Memorial Cemetery.
Survivors include one sister, Helen Beck of Birmingham, and several nieces and nephews.

Hank Wilkes
STURGIS, Ky. - Hank Wilkes, 69, died Monday at a Henderson, Ky., hospital. The funeral will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Whitsell Funeral Home in Sturgis with the Rev. Robert Phillips officiating.
Burial will be in Pythian Ridge Cemetery in Sturgis.
Mr. Wilkes was formerly of Huntsville.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Mackey Wilkes of Sturgis; one daughter, Connie Davis of Huntsville; three sons, Bradley Wilkes, Michael Wilkes and Douglas Wilkes, all of Huntsville; one brother, Wallace Wilkes of Huntsville; and one grandchild.

Evelyn F. Worthington
ALEXANDER CITY - Evelyn Frances Worthington, 69, died July 27 at an Alexander City nursing home. The funeral was July 30 at Hillview Memorial Park in Alexander City.
Radneys Funeral Home of Alexander City was in charge of burial.
Survivors include five sons, Stephen Connell Worthington of Jasper, Claude Ellsworth Worthington III of Daleville, Va., David Bryan Worthington of Huntsville, Timothy Castillo and Dion Castillo; one daughter, Candance Castillo; one sister, Lloydell Grimes of Pensacola, Fla.; and 14 grandchildren.
