James Adams
SECTION - James Adams, 43, died Monday in Manchester, Tenn. The funeral will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Section Funeral Home with the Revs. Durrell Bryant and Darrell McAbee officiating.
Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
Survivors include his fiancee, Belinda Centers of Section; three sisters, Brenda Jackson of Rainsville, and Rebecca Hill and Kay Tidwell, both of Section; and three brothers, Marvin Adams, Johnny Adams and Harold Adams, all of Section.

Ilva R. Brooks
SCOTTSBORO - Ilva R. Brooks, 95, died Sunday at a local hospital. The funeral was Monday at Scottsboro Funeral Home with Dr. Rick Stevens and the Rev. Leldon Hardin officiating.
Burial was in Clay Cemetery.
Mrs. Brooks was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Brooks; and one son, Paul H. Brooks.
Survivors include two daughters, Earlyne Rains of Henagar and Annie Ruth Fossett of Scottsboro; two sons, Bill Brooks of Scottsboro and Rayford Brooks of Columbus, Ga.; and 11 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

William A. Byrd
COVINGTON, Tenn. - William Alfred Byrd, 74, died Monday. The funeral will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Maley-Yarbrough Funeral Home chapel with Dr. Jerry Barker officiating.
Burial will be in Walton Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret Lavell Johnson Byrd of Covington; four sons, John William Byrd and Jim Byrd, both of Huntsville, Jerry Byrd of Jackson, Tenn., Chris Byrd of Norfolk, Va.; five daughters, Margaret Ann Smith of Cleveland, Tenn., Mary Wright of Brighton, Tenn., and Jeannie Glenn, Judy Rose and Becky Bell, all of Covington; and 18 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Memorial donations may be made to the Oak Grove Baptist Church Building Fund and Family Life Center.

Oscar L. DuBoise
Oscar Leon DuBoise, 79, of Huntsville died Monday at a local hospital. The funeral will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Spry Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Brian Atwood officiating.
Burial will be in Kirkland Baptist Church Cemetery in Kirkland, Tenn.
Mr. DuBoise was a native of Madison County and a disabled World War II veteran who was stationed at Pearl Harbor. He was preceded in death by his wife, Janey Pauline Mullins; and one daughter, Ruby Jean Boldin.
Survivors include one son, Daniel DuBoise of Huntsville; seven daughters, Vickey Price and Rita Riley, both of Toney, Janey DuBois of Gurley, Mary Ladner of Nashville and Carolyn Spurgeon, Sherry Webb and Kathryn Ingram, all of Huntsville; and 18 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 5 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Viola Duffey
BOAZ - Viola Mae Jeffery Duffey, 96, of 5733 Bristow Cove Road died Saturday at an Altoona nursing home. A graveside service was today at 11 a.m. at Aurora Cemetery.
Albertville Memorial Chapel Funeral Home was in charge of burial.
Survivors include nine grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

William R. Evans
TANNER - William Randall Evans, 40, died Saturday in Limestone County. Limestone Funeral Chapel will announce funeral arrangements.

Amber L. Garrard
STEVENSON - Amber Lauren Garrard, 5, died Sunday at a Jackson County hospital. The funeral will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Victory Baptist Church in Rash with the Rev. Dustin Henshaw and the Rev. Dean Johnson officiating.
Burial will be in Cumberland Cemetery in Stevenson with Rudder Funeral Home of Stevenson in charge.
Survivors include her parents, Michael and Debbie Garrard of Stevenson; one brother, Michael Dillan Garrard of Stevenson; grandparents, James and Sarah Gamble and Edward and Shirley Garrard, all of Stevenson, and Joyce Durham of Flat Rock; and great-grandmothers, Isolene Durham of Flat Rock and Marie Keith of Sylvania.
Visitation will be today from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Ella M. Gibson
SCOTTSBORO - Ella Matchum Gibson, 100, of 108 Benson Lane died Sunday at a local nursing home. The funeral was today at 11 a.m. at Carr Funeral Home in Guntersville.
Burial was in Marshall Memorial Garden.
Survivors include two sons, Greely Gibson Jr. of Scottsboro and Wendell Gibson of Jackson; and 12 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Susie M. Grayson
HOLLYWOOD - Susie M. Grayson, 71, died Sunday. The funeral will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. William R. Tibbs officiating.
Burial will be in Old Baptist Cemetery with Rudder Funeral Home in charge.
Survivors include one brother, Bobby Provens of Stevens; one granddaughter, Tatrina Early of Cincinnati; and two great-grandchildren.

Bernice Holcomb
SCOTTSBORO - Bernice Lee Thacker Holcomb, 86, died Sunday at a local nursing home. The funeral was today at 11 a.m. at W.T. Wilson Funeral Chapel in Rainsville with the Rev. Shannon Williams officiating.
Burial will be in Harmony Cemetery.
Survivors include five daughters, Wanda Jones, Jean Black and Carolyn Massey, all of Section, Louise Green of Jacksonville and Dell Cook of Scottsboro; four sons, Paul Holcomb, A.J. Holcomb and Bobby "Ned" Holcomb, all of Section, and Jerry Holcomb of Dutton; two sisters, Thelma Simpson of Collinsville and Floretta Puckett of Geraldine; and 20 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

James E. Hood
DIAMONDHEAD, Miss. - James Edward "Jimmy" Hood, 43, died Saturday in Bay St. Louis, Mo. A memorial service was to be today at 2 p.m. at Monte Sano State Park.
Edmond Fahey Funeral Home of Bay St. Louis is in charge of burial.
Mr. Hood was formerly of Huntsville.
Survivors include his parents, Charles and Ruth Hood of Diamondhead; one brother, Charles "Bubba" Hood of Fruitland Park, Fla.; two sisters, Connie Moore of Huntsville and Mary Pyle of Mounds, Okla.; and several nieces and nephews.

Roy L. Horton
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Roy L. Horton, 55, died Sunday. Funeral arrangements will be announced later by Kerby Funeral Home in Henagar.

Lorene H. Hughes
MADISON - Lorene Howell Hughes, 92, died Tuesday at a Huntsville hospital. The funeral will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Laughlin Service Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Robert F. Hendrix officiating.
Burial will be in Madison City Cemetery.
Mrs. Hughes was a lifelong Madison County resident and an Athens College graduate. She taught at Madison County schools 43 years and edited the school systems history. She worked for the Post Office 31 years and was a member of the Church of Christ.
Survivors include two sons, Bob G. Hughes of Destin, Fla., and James G. Hughes of Madison; and four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be today from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

James L. Hunter
ATHENS - James L. Hunter, 75, of Cascade Drive died Sunday at a Huntsville hospital. The funeral was today at 11 a.m. at Athens City Cemetery with Eddie Gooch officiating.
Spry Funeral Home of Athens was in charge of burial.
Mr. Hunter was a native of Morgan County, a former director of the Athens-Limestone Chamber of Commerce, an Army veteran of World War II and retired manager of J.C. Penney.
Survivors include his wife, Christine Groce Hunter; one son, James Timothy Hunter of Kalispell, Mont.; one daughter, Peggy John of Pensacola; two brothers, Billy Glen Hunter and Wayne Hunter, both of Huntsville; and two grandchildren.

Judy C. Jones
MADISON - Judy C. Jones, 48, died Saturday at a Huntsville hospital. The funeral will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at Valhalla Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Robert Brown officiating.
Burial will be in Valhalla Memory Gardens.
Survivors include her husband, Bryant Jones of Madison; one daughter, Carissa Crain of Mobile; her mother, Julia Fox of Madison; one sister, Jayne Scheller of Texas; and two brothers, Jimmie Fox of Texas and Jackie Fox of Louisiana.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial donations may be made to the Diabetes Association.

Cecil R. King
DUTTON - Cecil Ray King, 59, died Monday at his home. The funeral will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at W.T. Wilson Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Charles Bishop and the Rev. Winfred Robinson officiating.
Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Scottsboro.
Mr. King was formerly of Fyffe and owned King Sandblasting Co.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce Dudley King of Dutton; two sons, Michael King of Albertville and Brian King of Dutton; one sister, Helen King of Dutton; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be today at 1 p.m.

Ruth Mason
HYTOP - Ruth Mason, 96, died Saturday at a local hospital. The funeral was Monday at Scottsboro Funeral Home with the Revs. Ray Davis and James McLain Sr. officiating.
Burial was in Hytop Cemetery.
Mrs. Mason was preceded in death by her husband, C.E. Mason.
Survivors include one daughter, Barbara Culp of Rio Linda, Calif.; three stepdaughters, Margaret Grothaus of St. Louis, Virginia Avans of Hytop and Ruth Rojas of Harvey, Ill.; and four grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren, three great-great-great-grandchildren, 14 step grandchildren and 12 step great-grandchildren.

Elizabeth M. Miller
ATHENS - Miss Elizabeth May ''Beth Miller, 26, died Sunday at her home. The funeral will be today at 3 p.m. at Spry Funeral Home of Athens with Billy Turner officiating.
Burial will be in Higgins Cemetery.
Miss Miller was a graduate of Clements High School and attended Calhoun Community College.
Survivors include her parents, Ray and Kay Miller of Athens; two sisters, Nicole Smith and Lori Miller, both of Athens; and nieces and nephews.

Elsie M. Newton
LEXINGTON - Elsie M. Newton, 83, died Sunday in Florence. The funeral was to be today at 1 p.m. at Spry Funeral Home in Athens with Wendall Watts officiating.
Burial was in Grassy Cemetery.
Mrs. Newton was a member of Northside Church of Christ in Lexington, was a homemaker and was preceded in death by her husband, Reeder Franklin Newton.
Survivors include three sons, Chester Newton of Lexington, Alfred Newton of Green hill and Robert Newton of Barton; three daughters, Ann Jackson of Lester, Jean Reeder of Decatur and Martha Ellis of Hoover; two sisters, Pearline Shelton of Florence and Willie Sue Skinner of Danville; and 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Charlsie F. Tierce
IDER - Charlsie F. Tierce, 50, died Monday at a Marshall County hospital. The funeral will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Kerby Funeral Home in Henagar with the Rev. Alan Shuster officiating.
Burial will be in Fuller Cemetery in Ider.
Mrs. Tierce was preceded in death by her husband, William Tierce.
Survivors include one son, Kevin Matthews of Ider; two stepdaughters, Stephanie Tierce of Alabama and Shelia Stephens of Rome, Ga.; two stepsons, Joe Tierce and Lester Tierce, both of Centre; her father, Hubert Moore of Stevenson; one sister, Gloria Castle of Jasper, Tenn.; five brothers, Vernon Moore of Decatur, Frank Moore of Florence, J.C. Moore of Pisgah, Ernest Moore of Mapleton, Ga., and Paul Moore of Birmingham; and three grandchildren.

Bernice Walker
SCOTTSBORO - Bernice Walker, 85, died Saturday at a local nursing home. The funeral will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at St. Elizabeth Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Gary Spears officiating.
Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Scottsboro with Rudder Funeral Home in charge.
Mrs. Walker was a housekeeper and a member of the St. Elizabeth Missionary Baptist Church.
Survivors include her cousins, Vera Snodgrass of Scottsboro and Robert Cobb of Detroit, Mich.; and several other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Ernest C. Wright Jr.
NEW HOPE - Ernest C. "Jiggs" Wright Jr., 62, of 132 Hereford St. died Monday at a Huntsville hospital. The funeral will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at New Hope Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Cindy Bennett officiating.
Burial will be in Walker Cemetery.
Mr. Wright retired from Chrysler Corp. He was a member of Hebron Baptist Church, a former Boy Scout leader, New Hope School PTA president and president of the Jaycees of New Hope. He was a lifelong New Hope resident.
Survivors inlcude two daughters, Cindy Bennett of Columbus, Ga., and Pam Wright of Spring, Texas; his mother, Lessie Cobb of New Hope; two sisters, Frances Doran of Ferriday, La., and Charlotte Oliver of Huntsville; one brother, Milo Wright of Huntsville; and two grandchildren.
Visitation will be today from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
