Sherman S. Battles
HENAGAR - The Rev. Sherman S. Battles, 81, died Thursday. The funeral will be Sunday at 1 p.m. at Ker By Funeral Home in Henagar with the Rev. Don Brock, the Rev. Carl Butler and the Rev. Charles Flannigan officiating.
Burial will be in Bank Head Cemetery in Mentone.
The Rev. Battles was a member of the Cunningham Church of God of Prophecy at Sylvania. He has been a pastor at several area churches. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lillian Battles.
Survivors include one daughter, Ethel Laney of Henagar; four sons, Tommy Battles of Valley Head and Jack Battles, George Battles and Virgil Battles, all of Mentone; one brother, W.G. Battles of Columbus, Ga.; and 15 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Visitation will be today and Saturday from 5 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Junior Christian
ARAB - Junior Christian, 64, of 270 New Harmony Road died Wednesday at his home. The funeral will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Arab Memorial Cemetery.
Burial will be in Rice Cemetery.
Survivors include one son, Ralph T. Christian of Florida; one daughter, Dorothy Ann Christian of Albertville; his mother, Lula Bell Christian of Arab; one brother, James Christian of Arab; two sisters, Annie Mae Chadwick of Guntersville and Viola Hasty of Georgia; and three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Visitation will be Sunday from 3:30 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Clinton R. Couch
Clinton Ray Couch, 60, of Huntsville died Thursday at his home. The funeral will be Sunday at 1 p.m. at Spry Funeral Home with the Rev. Dennis Bartlett officiating.
Burial will be in Cochran Cemetery.
Mr. Couch was a native of Mobile and had lived in Huntsville 30 years.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Ann Couch of Huntsville; two sons, Thomas Ray Couch and Ronnie Ray Couch, both of Huntsville; one daughter, Joann Hatfield of Valley Head; his mother, Eva Couch of Mobile; two brothers, Terry Couch of Huntsville and Johnny Couch of Mobile; and five grandchildren.
Visitation will be Saturday from 3:30 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Elizabeth A. Crowell
SCOTTSBORO - Elizabeth Ann Crowell, 81, died Thursday at a Chattanooga hospital. The funeral will be today at 2 p.m. at Rudder Funeral Home in Stevenson with the Rev. Roy Venable officiating.
Burial will be in Stevenson City Cemetery.
Survivors include one daughter, Jean Midkiff of Madison; two granddaughters, Jeri Carson and Teri Jones, both of Scottsboro; one grandson, Mark Carroll of Stevenson; and four great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Visitation will be today from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

Clara J. Dupree
HARVEST - Clara Joyce Dupree, 66, died Wednesday at her home. The funeral will be today at 11 a.m. at Madison Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Mark Embersold officiating.
Burial will be in Fowlkes Cemetery.
Mrs. Dupree was a homemaker and a member of Capshaw Baptist Church for 35 years. She lived in Limestone County 45 years and was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Dupree.
Survivors include two sons, Jeff Dupree of Capshaw and Mickey Dupree of East Limestone; one daughter, Deborah Dupree Bolden of Harvest; six sisters, Mary Bevels of Evansville, Ind., Ruby Jean Laten of Huntsville, Vivian Alexander of Ardmore, Jeri Foster of Huntsville, Cora Mears of Huntsville and Lovonia McBay of Fayetteville, Tenn.; three brothers, Kenneth Bryant of Huntsville, Robert Junior Bryant of Lacey's Spring and Ray Bryant of Fayetteville; and one grandchild.

Thomas M. Hill
Thomas Marion "Tommy" Hill, 63, of Huntsville died Thursday at a local hospital. The funeral will be Sunday at noon at Valhalla Funeral Home with the Rev. Mark Maddox officiating.
Burial will be in Valhalla Memory Gardens.
Mr. Hill was a member of Woodland Hill Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon.
Survivors include his wife, Lois Hill of Huntsville; three daughters, Susan Towery, Lois Roberts and Joyce Allen, all of Hazel Green ; two sons, Thomas Christopher Hill of Oil City, Pa., and Tony Locklear of Pembroke, N.C.; and two brothers, George Hill of Decatur and Lloyd James Hill of Trinity.
Visitation will be Saturday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial donations may be made to the church building fund.

Louise Y. Keith
Louise Yarbrough Keith, 80, of Huntsville died Thursday at her home. Laughlin Service Funeral Home will announce arrangements.
Mrs. Keith was a lifetime member of First United Methodist Church and a member of the Optimist Women's Club and the Buttercup Garden Club.
Survivors include one stepdaughter, Nita Spitzer of Dallas; three sons, Sam Keith and Neil Keith, both of Huntsville, and Milton Keith of St. Petersburg, Fla.; two brothers, William M. Yarbrough and Sam Yarbrough, both of Huntsville; and four grandchildren.
Memorial donations may be made to Hospice Family Care.

Jimmie R. Kirksey
SECTION - Jimmie Ryan Kirksey, 19, died Wednesday at a Jackson County hospital. The funeral will be today at 1 p.m. at Section Funeral Home with the Rev. Dwight Everett and the Rev. James Owens officiating.
Burial will be in Corinth Cemetery at Macedonia.
Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Debra and Gary Beam of Section; his father, Jimmie Kirksey of Memphis; two sisters, Shondal Turner of Pisgah and Abigail Beam of Section; grandparents, Robert and Bobbie Doyle of Scottsboro, Pearl Kirksey of Alligator, Miss., and Patricia Beam of Section; and great-grandmother, Ruthie Hamilton of Ripley, Miss.

Evelyn P. Martin
Evelyn P. Martin, 83, of Huntsville died Wednesday at her home. Laughlin Service Funeral Home will announce arrangements.
Mrs. Martin was a dietitian for Huntsville City Schools for 28 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hoyt D. Martin Sr.; and one son, Hoyt D. "Butch" Martin Jr.
Survivors include one sister, Laura Lee Brantley of Huntsville; one grandson, John D. "Ashley" Martin of Greenville; one granddaughter, Michelle "Toby" Wilkinson of Marietta, Ga.; and two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Sandra F. McCandlish
Sandra F. McCandlish, 70, of Huntsville died Thursday at her home. Laughlin Service Funeral Home will announce arrangements.
Mrs. McCandlish was raised in Scottsbluff, Neb., and had lived in Huntsville since 1956. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Carl A. McCandlish.
Survivors include one daughter, Janet McCandlish Indihar of Huntsville; two sons, Carl Austin McCandlish Jr. of Oak Ridge, Tenn., and Stephen Scott McCandlish of Boise, Idaho; one brother, Walter R. Matheny of Huntsville; and three grandchildren.
Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 332 North Lauderdale St., Memphis, TN 38105; or to a favorite charity.

Rickey R. Mitchell
ARDMORE, Tenn. - Rickey Ray Mitchell, 45, of 1415 Old Elkton Pike died Thursday at a Nashville hospital. The funeral will be today at 10 a.m. at McCauley Funeral Home in Fayetteville, Tenn., with Keith Couch officiating.
Burial will be in Shiloh Cemetery.
Mr. Mitchell was a native of Madison County and a logger.
Survivors include his mother, Mamie K. Mitchell of Dellrose, Tenn.; three sisters, Brenda Bryant and Tressia Barnes, both of Fayetteville, and Vicki Owens of Frankewing, Tenn.; four brothers, Glenn Mitchell of Fayetteville, Toney Mitchell of Dellrose, Johnny Mitchell of Ardmore, Tenn., and Joe Mitchell of Frankewing; grandmother, Lillie Mitchell of Dellrose; and one granddaughter.

Beulah Riddle
TONEY - Beulah Ruby Hawkins Riddle, 87, died Wednesday at a Huntsville hospital. The funeral will be today at 1:30 p.m. at Taylor-Ardmore Funeral Home in Ardmore, with the Rev. James Shivers officiating.
Burial will be in Shady Grove Cemetery.
She was a member of Shady Grove United Methodist Church for more than 71 years.
Survivors include two daughters, Monette Claridy of Toney and Kenneth Ikard of Madison; and three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Mary E. Stapler
Mary Ellen Stapler, 76, of Huntsville died Wednesday at a local hospital. The funeral will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Valhalla Funeral Home with the Rev. Glenn Courtney officiating.
Burial will be in Valhalla Memory Gardens.
She was preceded in death by one son, Gary Stapler.
Survivors include her husband, Donald Stapler of Huntsville; one son, Tony Stapler of Harvest; and two grandchildren.
Visitation will be Sunday from 1 to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Huntsville.

Barbara L. Staton
GUNTERSVILLE - Barbara Lee Staton, 50, of Scoels Road died Wednesday at a Huntsville hospital. The funeral will be today at 11 a.m. at Arab Memorial Chapel Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Mount Oak Cemetery.
Survivors include two sons, Scott Staton of Guntersville and Robert Staton of Arab; one stepson, Tommy Staton of Guntersville; one daughter, Anita Miller of Guntersville; and three grandchildren.
