Ella C. Oden
95, former business owner

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Ella C. Oden, 95, of Hartselle will be Thursday at 3 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. Bill Partridge and the Rev. Homer Jones officiating.

Burial will be in Herring Cemeteryon Nance Ford Road. The family will receive friends tonight from 5 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Oden died Monday, Aug. 16, 1999, at Mary Berry Group Home in Trinity. She was born March 25, 1904, to Walter and Betty Woods Caudle. She and her husband farmed in the Andrews Chapel community until the early 1950s when they moved to Hartselle; they owned and operated a gas station and grocery store on Sparkman Street. She was the widow of J.M. Oden and the mother of the late Monroe Oden Jr.

She is survived by one son, Mitchell B. Oden of Chicago; one daughter, Betty Hazel Grymonprez of Huntsville; one brother, Noel Caudle of Eva; one sister, Elsie Gonzales of Warren, Texas; six grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Nephews will be pallbearers.

Willie Delmar Owens
73, retired U.S. civil service

Graveside service for Willie Delmar Owens, 73, of Decatur was to be today at 11 a.m. in Roselawn Cemetery with the Rev. Buddy Champion officiating and Roselawn Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Owens died Sunday, Aug. 15, 1999, at Decatur General Hospital. He was born April 27, 1926, in Willow Creek, Tenn. He was a U.S. Army World War II veteran, retired from the U.S. Civil Service and a member of Cookeville, Tenn., United Methodist Church. He was the brother of the late Jerry Owens and the father of the late E.D. Owens.

He is survived by his wife, Katherine Owens; one son, Charles Owens of Laurel, Miss.; three daughters, Helen Hill of Decatur, Ann Strunk of Pine Knot, Ky., and Janice Johnson of Birmingham; his mother, Eula Owens of Cookeville; one brother, Ed Owens of Cherokee; five sisters, Opaline Jones, Geraldine Flatt, Carolyn Hooks, Billie Mitchell and Joyce Bullington, all of Cookeville; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were to be J.B. Dye, Joe B. Hill, Shane Strunk, Joseph Hill, Matt Owens, Ashley Holland, Jerry Strunk and Martin Johnson.

Bebe Stone Penney
80, social worker

Funeral for Bebe Stone Penney, 80, of Decatur will be Friday at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ken Dunivant officiating.

Burial will be in Decatur City Cemetery with Roselawn Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends one hour before the service in the church parlor.

Mrs. Penney died today, Aug. 18, 1999, at Summerford Nursing Home in Falkville. She was born March 2, 1919, in Lawrenceburg, Tenn., to Oda Anne Long and James Embry Stone.

She was a social worker for Morgan County Department of Human Resources for 32 years, first as a caseworker and then as adult services supervisor. She assisted with adoptions, nursing homes, children and the elderly and disabled. She attended Athens College and was a graduate of Auburn University, where she was a member of Chi Omega sorority. She worked on her master's degree at Tulane University.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church; Blanche Jones Bible class; Junior Service League of Decatur; Cotillion Club of Decatur; J.C. Penney Golden Rule Award Committee from 1996-97, serving as chairwoman in 1997; and the county board of directors of Department of Human Resources from 1996-99. She was the widow of Walter Marvin Penney.

She is survived by one daughter, Dr. Anne Rankin Penney of Auburn; one brother, Frank Stone of Decatur; and one grandson.

Pallbearers will be William G. Stone, Samuel Stone, P. Scott Stone, John Grantland Stone, William G. Stone III, Stephen Nyquist, Jonathan Nyquist and Lawrence Bradley Durham.

Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church of Decatur or the building fund at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Auburn.

George W. Veal

HARTSELLE -- Funeral arrangements for George W. Veal, 64, of Somerville, who died today, Aug. 18, 1999, at Decatur General Hospital, will be announced by Peck Funeral Home.

Seneca LeBron Baker
17, student
CHATTANOOGA -- Funeral for Seneca LeBron Baker, 17, of Chattanooga will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Taylor Funeral Home with the Rev. Thomas Jones officiating.

Burial will be Monday at 10 a.m. in Forest Hills Cemetery. The family will receive friends today from noon to 10 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Baker died Monday, Aug. 16, 1999, at a Chattanooga hospital. He was born Feb. 17, 1982, in Chattanooga. He used to spend summers in Decatur visiting his aunt, Doris Baker. He was a student at Phoenix School III, a magnet high school, and was a member of New Jerusalem Baptist Church since 1989, where he was a member of the male chorus and served on the youth usher board.

He is survived by his mother, Jessie Delois of Chattanooga; and his grandmother, Jessie Lee Baker of Chattanooga.

Julia Price Suggs Crawford
86, retired teacher

Funeral for Julia Price Suggs Crawford, 86, of Decatur will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home with the Rev. Charlie Brown, the Rev. Don Wright and the Rev. Dwayne McDuff officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Crawford died Thursday, Aug. 19, 1999, at her home. She was born Jan. 9, 1913, in Priceville to James Edwin Price and Julia McGlawn Price . She attended Austin Peay Memorial College in Clarksville, Tenn., and graduated from Athens State College. She taught school for more than 30 years in Decatur and Morgan County. She retired in 1973 from Somerville Road Elementary School, where she taught first grade.

She is survived by one son, Donald B. Suggs of Decatur; one brother, Dr. Edwin E. Price of Ormond Beach, Fla.; four sisters, Frances Price , Elizabeth Price Speaks Kirby and Martha "Geny" Price Gilchrist, all of Decatur, and Alma Thomas "Tommie" Kelly of Ben Hur, Va.; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Bill Gilchrist, John Gilchrist, Charles Speaks, Donnie White, Dan Price and Jason Dugger.

Memorials may be made to Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church or Priceville United Methodist Church.

George Edward Gibson
77, G.E. retiree

Memorial service for George Edward Gibson, 77, of Decatur will be Sunday at 7 p.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church with the Rev. David Lewis officiating and Roselawn Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Gibson died Tuesday, Aug. 17, 1999, at his home. He was born Jan. 13, 1922, in Amelia County, Va. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and retired from General Electric in 1984.

He is survived by his wife, Jacquelin H. Gibson; one son, George E. Gibson of Albuquerque, N.M.; two brothers; six sisters; and one grandchild.

Haley Jones
87, homemaker

Funeral for Haley Jones, 87, of Belle Mina will be Sunday at 1 p.m. at Jerusalem Primitive Baptist Church with the Rev. Lawrence Sanford officiating.

Burial will be in Center Star Cemetery with Reynolds Funeral Home directing. The body will be at the church one hour before the service.

Mrs. Jones died Saturday, Aug. 14, 1999, in Garland, Texas. She was born Sept. 11, 1911, in Limestone County to John and Butch Murphy Woodruff. She was a homemaker and a member of Jerusalem Primitive Baptist Church, where she served on the mothers' board. She was the widow of the Rev. Robert Jones, who was pastor at Jerusalem Primitive Baptist Church.

She is survived by one son, Leo Mosley of Dayton, Ohio; two daughters, Juanita Wallace of Dallas, Texas, and Mary Harper of Garland, Texas; 19 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great grandchildren.

Grandsons will be pallbearers.

Jeremiah Vashun Jones
Infant

Graveside service for infant Jeremiah Vashun Jones of Decatur will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Sterrs Cemetery with the Rev. John White officiating and Reynolds Funeral Home directing.

The infant died Thursday, Aug. 19, 1999, at Huntsville Hospital. He was born July 30, 1999, in Decatur.

He is survived by his parents, Victor Banks II and Latjuanna Jones, both of Decatur; two brothers, twin Jakobe Jones and Janadas McDaniel Jr., both of Decatur; his grandparents, Rafer and Wanda Jones of Decatur, and Victor and Evangeline Banks of Decatur; and his great-grandparents, Walter and Willie Jones of Decatur, and Preston and Dora Banks of Hillsboro.

Jewell Edwards Mitchell

ATHENS -- Funeral arrangements for Jewell Edwards Mitchell, 81, of Athens, who died Thursday, Aug. 19, 1999, at her home, will be announced by Spry Funeral Home.

Ralph Edward Morrow
76, Army veteran

HARTSELLE -- Military graveside service for Ralph Edward Morrow, 76, of Falkville will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Campbell Cemetery near Kelso, Tenn., with the Rev. Dalton Warden officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Morrow died Wednesday, Aug. 18, 1999, at Sunbridge Care and Rehabilitation in Decatur. He was born Dec. 15, 1922, in Lincoln County, Tenn., to John A. and Dell Morrow. He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Tennessee and taught engineering in Saudi Arabia for Raytheon Corp. He was a retired Army sergeant, serving during World War II and the Korean War. He was the brother of the late Gene Morrow.

He is survived by four sons, Dale Morrow and Robert Morrow, both of Montgomery City, Mo.; Gary Morrow and Donald Morrow, both of Missouri; three sisters, Frances Cook of Dallas, N.C., Edna Gault of Kelso and Ruth Daniel of Fayetteville, Tenn.; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Memorials may be made to the Falkville Town Library, P.O. Box 407, Falkville, AL 35622.
