Jimmy Curtis 'J.C.' Lorance
65, asphalt plant operator

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Jimmy Curtis "J.C." Lorance, 65, of Decatur will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. Chris Godbee and the Rev. Whit Wray officiating.

Burial will be in Mount Tabor Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Lorance died Monday, March 6, 2000, at Decatur General Hospital. He was born Oct. 16, 1934, in Morgan County to Marvin Roth and Annie Mae Berry Lorance and was operator of the asphalt plant for Shelby Contractors.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Frances Marie Lawrence Lorance; three daughters, Joyce Free of Decatur, Kay Snoody of Tanner and Sue Lacy of Falkville; two brothers, James R. Lorance of Decatur and William "Bill" Lorance of Midwest City, Okla.; four sisters, Minnie Griffith Pollard and Virginia Stringer Green , both of Decatur, Ann Entriken of Omaha, Neb. and Fran Bishop of Las Vegas; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Nathan Lawrence, James Linderman, Joe Curbow, Johnny Lawrence, Cecil Berry, John Berry and Tommy Luker.

William Cody Mullins

SANTA ANA, Calif. -- Funeral for William Cody Mullins, 79, of Santa Ana, Calif., was Monday at Fairhaven Funeral Home.

Mr. Mullins died Tuesday, Feb. 29, 2000, in Santa Ana. He was born June 26, 1920, in Hartselle to Gill and Ola Mullins. He was the widower of Jerry Mullins and the brother of the late William Joe Mullins, James E. "Moon" Mullins and Clara Russell.

He is survived by one sister, Lottie Mullins Slayton of Decatur.

Mildred Jackson Raby
80, former teacher

ATHENS -- Funeral for Mildred Jackson Raby, 80, of Elkmont will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at McConnell Funeral Home with Don Osborne and Arvid McGuire officiating.

Burial will be in Madison Crossroads Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Raby died Sunday, March 5, 2000, at Athens-Limestone Hospital. She was born Sept. 23, 1919, in Giles County, Tenn. She was a resident of Elkmont for most of her life. She was a former teacher at West Limestone High School and Owens Elementary School. She was the widow of R.E. "Buddy" Raby and sister of the late Monroe White Jackson. She was a member of the Church of Christ.

She is survived by one son, David Bryant Raby of Elkmont; one daughter, Daveen Raby Stanford of Elkmont; one brother, W. D. Jackson Jr. of Athens; one sister, Gertrude Black of Minor Hill, Tenn.; and two grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Richard Felker, Mike Jackson, Jimmy Black, Matt Copeland, Eddie Bass and Tim Stinnett.

Walter A. Bryant
78, retired Air Force officer

HUNTSVILLE - Memorial service for Walter A. Bryant, 78, of Decatur will be at a date to be determined in St. Augustine, Fla., with the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary officiating.

Laughlin Service Funeral Home is handling local arrangements.

Mr. Bryant died Monday, March 6, 2000, at Parkway Medical Center. He was born Aug. 3, 1921, in Maplewood, Va., to Wade and Nola S. Bryant. He was a retired Air Force officer and also retired from Ford Motor Co. as a supervisor. He was a member of Kings Creek Baptist Church in Lenoir, N.C., and U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary in St. Augustine.

He is survived by his wife, Jane C. Bryant; two sons, Vann E. Bryant of Clarksville, Tenn., and Reg Bryant of Madison; two daughters, Debbie Hill of Moulton and Susan Weaver of Decatur; two sisters, Dr. Jean Neilson of St. Augustine and Betty Russell of Angel Fire, N.M.; his stepmother, Lois Bryant of Conover, N.C.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Mildred Jean Bedingfield
62, retired budget analyst

ATHENS -- Funeral for Mildred Jean Bedingfield, 62, of Athens will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Spry Funeral Home with Bobby Robinson and Carl Witty officiating.

Burial will be in Limestone Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Ms. Bedingfield died Saturday, March 4, 2000, at Athens-Limestone Hospital. She was born July 13, 1937, in Limestone County to Buford and Eva Brummit Bedingfield. She retired as a budget analyst from Redstone Arsenal. She was a member of Sardis Springs Church of Christ.

She is survived by five brothers, Alton Bedingfield Sr., Roger Bedingfield and Milton Bedingfield, all of Athens, Buford Bedingfield Jr. of Metairie, La., and Jimmy Bedingfield of Priceville; and one sister, Carolyn Bibb of Decatur.

Mary Dell Gilley
83, homemaker

ARAB -- Funeral for Mary Dell Gilley, 83, of Somerville will be today at 2 p.m. at New Friendship Baptist Church with the Rev. Tim Parrish officiating and Gober Funeral Home directing.

Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery. The body will be at the church one hour before service.

Mrs. Gilley died Tuesday, Feb. 29, 2000, at Marshall Medical Center North. She was born Aug. 5, 1916, in Marshall County to Bob and Elizabeth Saint. She was a homemaker and a member of New Friendship Baptist Church. She was the widow of William Paul Gilley, to whom she was married for 49 years, and the mother of the late Mary Sue Woodruff.

She is survived by one daughter, Myra Nell Wilkes of Somerville; one brother, James Saint of Montgomery; one sister, Dallas Whatley of Dallas; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Lucille L. McLemore
82, homemaker

Funeral for Lucille L. McLemore, 82, of Decatur will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home with the Rev. Steve Agee officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 5 to 7 at the funeral home.

Mrs. McLemore died Friday, March 3, 2000, at SunBridge Care and Rehabilitation Center. She was born Jan. 15, 1918, to William and Janie Hamby Southern. She was a homemaker and a Baptist. She was the widow of Thomas A. McLemore.

She is survived by two sons, Billy Thomas McLemore of Moulton and Bobby McLemore of Decatur; two daughters, Lois Bolan of Moulton and Sadie Williams of Danville; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Grandsons will be pallbearers.

John Thomas Sledge
76, crane operator

ATHENS -- Funeral for John Thomas Sledge, 76, of Athens will be today at 2 p.m. at Spry Funeral Home with the Rev. Bobby Marks officiating. Burial will be in Ripley Cemetery.

Mr. Sledge died Friday, March 3, 2000, at Athens-Limestone Hospital. He was born Aug. 23, 1923, in Limestone County to John Thomas and Kellie Baines Sledge. He retired as a mechanic and crane operator from Valley Crane in Decatur after 30 years of service.

He is survived by his wife, Marjorie Sledge; two sons, Wayne Sledge of Lester and Larry Sledge of Athens; two brothers, Dillard Sledge of Hazel Green and David Ray Sledge of Athens; one sister, Evelyn Garner of Athens; four grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

Pallbearers will be Brad Zirbel, Jimmy Allen, Bud Allen, Charlie McCormick, Mike Harbuck and Rusty Cooper.

Grady Boman Smith
Infant

VERNON -- Graveside service for Grady Boman Smith, infant son of Jason and Natalie Boman Smith of Decatur, will be today at 3 p.m. at Mount Pisgah Cemetery with the Rev. Todd Evans officiating and Chandler Funeral Home directing.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 1 until 2:30 p.m.

The infant was born Jan. 13, 2000, in Decatur. He died Friday, March 3, 2000, at Children's Hospital in Birmingham.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by one brother, Jackson Edward Smith of Decatur; his grandparents, Wayne Smith of Guin and Patricia Smith of Winfield, and Glen and Carol Boman of Vernon; his great-grandparents, Lester and Flora Smith of Empire, James and Anna Banks Boman of Vernon, and Doris Cleland of Oxford.

Thomas Merle Collins
63, Vanity Fair retiree
MOULTON -- Funeral for Thomas Merle "Tom" Collins, 63, of Hatton will be Tuesday at 4 p.m. at Lawrence Funeral Home with Howell Bigham officiating.

Burial will be in Collins Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Collins died Sunday, March 5, 2000, at his home. He was born July 8, 1936, in Trenton, Tenn., to Merle and Kathleen Collins. He retired after 22 years as a manager for Vanity Fair Corp. and after 26 years as a first sergeant in the Alabama Tennessee National Guard.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Collins; two sons, Mac Collins of Sherman, Texas, and Chris Collins of Wartburg, Tenn.; three daughters, Pam Mosley of Kingston, Tenn., Teri Rutherford of Hatton and Susan Johnson of Mount Hope; his mother of Trenton; one sister, Betty Pybass of Trenton; and 12 grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Gary Williams, Jim Hopkins, Clayton Walls, Jeff Landry, David Aytes and Swayne Shelton.

Grandsons will be honorary pallbearers.

Louise Fredarieka Hanson

ATHENS -- Funeral arrangements for Louise Fredarieka Hanson, 93, of Athens, who died today, March 6, 2000, at Athens Convalescent Center, will be announced by McConnell Funeral Home.

Victorie Mason
90, homemaker

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Victorie Mason, 90, of Falkville will be Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. Michael Mason officiating.

Burial will be in Center Springs Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Mason died Saturday, March 4, 2000, at Summerford Nursing Home. She was born June 16, 1909, in Itawamba, Miss., to John Thomas and Armelia Mae Langston Lynn. She was a homemaker and a member of Somerville Church of God. She was the widow of Talmadge Mason.

She is survived by two sons, Lewis E. Mason of Somerville and Warner L. Mason of Hartselle; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Gilbert Dunaway, Vaughn Winton, Tom Gurley, Will McSpadden, Herb Willis and Barry Goree.

Robert Mills
79, retired car dealership owner

Funeral for Robert Mills, 79, of Decatur will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Shelton Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike Nix officiating.

Masonic graveside service will be at Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Mills died Saturday, March 4, 2000, at Decatur General Hospital. He was born Sept. 18, 1920, in Limestone County to William and Lena Barnes Mills. Formerly employed at Redstone Arsenal, he began working at Draper Motor Co. in 1945 and purchased the Dodge-Chrysler-Plymouth dealership in Decatur in 1955. He retired in 1979. He was a member of the Democratic Club and Rising Sun Masonic Lodge 29, where he received his 50-year Masonic pin in 1999. He also was a member of the Cahaba Shrine Temple of Huntsville.

He is survived by his wife, Kathryn B. Mills; one daughter, JoAnn M. Sims of Decatur; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Pallbearers will be Robert Sims, Patrick Green well, Gene Cash, Doug Rogers, Doug Hale, Danny Junkins and George Mills.
