MOULTON -- Funeral arrangements for Frank Steele, 57, of Moulton, who died Sunday, March 26, 2000, at Parkway Medical Center will be announced to Lawrence Funeral Home.

Andrew Swoopes

Funeral for Andrew Swoopes, 99, of Decatur will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Sharpley Funeral Home with Mike Nix officiating.

Burial will be in Early Pastor Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 7 at the funeral home.

Mr. Swoopes died Wednesday, March 22, 2000, Vencor Hospital in Chattanooga. He was born Aug. 12, 1900, in Lawrence County to Levie and Rosie White Swoopes. He was a member of Beltline Church of Christ.

He is survived by one son, Andrew Swoopes Jr. of Alabama; one daughter, Mattie Cook of Missouri; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Willie Baker, Jimmy Allen, Lorenzo Jackson, Thomas Sykes, Walter Jones, Collis Shackleford and George Smith.

Harvey Lee Cowan
57, heavy equipment operator
ATHENS -- Graveside service for Harvey Lee Cowan, 57, of Lafayette, Ind., will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Dement Cemetery with Spry Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Cowan died Friday, March 24, 2000, in Lafayette. He was born April 10, 1942, in Lincoln County, Tenn. He was a heavy equipment operator and member of the Pentecostal Church.

He is survived by one daughter, Rhonda Sue Cowan of Lafayette; one brother, Bobby Gene Cowan of Taft, Tenn.; six half brothers, Buddy Cowan, Johnnie Cowan, Woodrow Cowan, Donald Cowan and Scott Cowan, all of Athens, and Monroe Cowan of Decatur; two half sisters, Carolyn Green of Athens and Mammie Green of Elkmont; one grandchild; and two step-grandchildren.

Herbert Junior Hall
72, retired machine operator

Funeral for Herbert Junior Hall, 72, of Decatur will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Shelton Funeral Home with Berry Binion officiating.

Burial will be in Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Hall died Monday, March 27, 2000, at Parkway Medical Center. He was born June 24, 1927, in Cullman to Doc Herbert Hall and Alma Marchman Hall. He was a member of Austinville Church of Christ and retired from Wolverine Tube, where he was a machine operator. He was the brother of the late Robert M. Hall.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret Hall; one son, Doug Hall of Decatur; one daughter, Linda Bibb of Hartselle; one brother, Edsel Hall of Cullman; four sisters, Hazel Aldridge and Barbara Sue Lindsey, both of Decatur, Imagene Hinel of Cullman, and Betty Dunn of Tuscaloosa; two granddaughters; and one great-granddaughter.

Harvey Therman Jetton
68, machine operator

MOULTON -- Funeral for Harvey Therman Jetton, 68, of Moulton was Monday at 4 p.m. at Elliott Funeral Home with Wayne Bemgart officiating.

Burial was in Cheatham Cemetery.

Mr. Jetton died Friday, March 24, 2000, in Hamilton. He was born Aug. 10, 1931, in Tennessee. He was a retired machine operator for Littrell Lumber Co.

He is survived by his wife, Marie Jetton; three sons, Tommy Jetton and Max Jetton, both of Moulton, and Teddy Jetton of Hillsboro; three daughters, Shirley Vinson and Wanda Dutton, both of Moulton, and Janice Jetton of Memphis; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Mike Swain, Jack McMillian, Devin Jetton, Tony Vinson, Josh Jetton and Kenneth Peters.

Elnora Johnson
61, switchboard operator

Funeral for Elnora Johnson, 61, of Decatur will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at St. James Cumberland Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Clifford Malone officiating.

Burial will be in Decatur City Cemetery with Reynolds Funeral Home directing. The body will be at the church one hour before the service.

Mrs. Johnson died Sunday, March 26, 2000, at her home. She was born May 4, 1938, in Morgan County to Roosevelt and Sabra McDaniel. She was a switchboard operator at Regions Bank and a member of St. James Presbyterian Church, where she participated in the Missionary Society and Club No. 4.

She is survived by one daughter, Carline McDaniel of Decatur; three brothers, Leo McDaniel, Carl McDaniel and Jim McDaniel, all of Decatur; one sister, Coease Spraggins of Decatur; and three grandchildren.

Officers of the church will be pallbearers.

Estell Kelley
77, homemaker

ATHENS -- Funeral for Estell Kelley, 77, of Athens will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Spry Funeral Home.

Burial will be in New Hope Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Kelley died Monday, March 27, 2000, at Athens-Limestone Hospital. She was born Feb. 6, 1923, in Limestone County. She was a homemaker and a member of Mount Pisgah Baptist Church. She was the widow of Hollis Kelley and the mother of the late Robert Kelley. Two grandchildren died previously.

She is survived by one son, David Kelley of Elkmont; three daughters, Joyce Oller of Five Points, Tenn., Shirley Rose of Athens and Carol Moore of Elkmont; 11 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Pallbearers will be Kelvin Kelley, Brandon Kelley, Charlie White, Jon Russell, David Daniel, Timothy Tucker and Keith Thomas.

Walter Lee Kelley
55, Valley Stockyard worker

Graveside service for Walter Lee Kelley, 55, of Decatur was to be today at 10 a.m. at Calvary Memorial Gardens with the Rev. George Smith officiating and Sharpley Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Kelley died Sunday, March 26, 2000, at his home. He was born Sept. 14, 1944, in Decatur to Noah and Roberta Kelley. He was an employee of Valley Stockyard.

He is survived by one brother, Johnny Kelley of Oklahoma; and one sister, Dorothy Davis of Decatur.

Rose Sewell Lawrence
88, office manager

BIRMINGHAM -- Graveside service for Rose Sewell Lawrence, 88, of Birmingham was to be today at 2 p.m. at Cedar Bluff Cemetery with Johns-Ridout's Funeral Home's Southside Chapel directing.

Mrs. Lawrence died Sunday, March 26, 2000, at Baptist Montclair Hospital. She was born Jan. 15, 1912, in Alabama and was a former resident of Decatur. She was an office manager with the State of Alabama.

She is survived by three nephews, Dr. William Barnwell of Dalton, Ga., John H. Slone of Columbus, Ga. and Robert M. Slone of Selma; and two nieces, Margaret S. Whatley and Frankie S. Tyson, both of Birmingham.

James Harvey Maples
46, mechanic

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for James Harvey Maples, 46, of Mobile will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. Glen Smallwood, the Rev. Randy Milligan and the Rev. Kenneth Yates officiating.

Burial will be in Falkville City Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Maples died Saturday, March 25, 2000, at USA Medical Center in Mobile. He was born March 9, 1954, in Morgan County to Barney Lewis and Edna Lois Owens Maples. He was a Baptist and a mechanic at Foster Tire Co. in Mobile. He was the brother of the late Barney Maples Jr. and Jewel Haynes.

He is survived by one stepson, Tossie McDonald of Mobile; four stepdaughters, Barbara Williams, Dale Williams, Willie McClellan and Kim Motes, all of Mobile; two brothers, Bobby Maples of Eva and Wayne Maples of Hartselle; four sisters, Martha Turney of Falkville, Shirley McCurry, Edna Lawrence and Doris Blankenship, all of Hartselle; and nine step-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Jimmy Lawrence, Tim Maples, Gary Turney, Mike McCurry, George Waddell and Bobby Haynes.

Jonathon Lane Proffitt
32, maintenance worker

TRINITY -- Funeral for Jonathon Lane Proffitt, 32, of Trinity will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Parkway Funeral Home with Anthony "Pinky" Tyler and Robbie Darnell officiating.

Burial will be in Morris Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Proffitt died Sunday, March 26, 2000, at Decatur General Hospital. He was born Nov. 21, 1967, in Moulton. He was a 1987 graduate of Oak Hill High School in Converse, Ind., a maintenance worker and the grandson of the late Ira and Louise Heflin.

He is survived by one son, Johnny Lee Proffitt; one daughter, Emily Gail Proffitt; his parents, Bob and Reba Proffitt of Caddo; one sister, Jennifer Geiger of Fort Wayne, Ind.; one stepbrother, Joey Proffitt of Kentucky; and two stepsisters, Terra Proffitt and Kathy Proffitt Murphy, both of Florida.

Maurice Wendell Sherrill
86, retired market manager

HUNTSVILLE -- Funeral for Maurice Wendell Sherrill, 86, of Huntsville will be Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. at Spry Funeral Home with Charles Marshall officiating.

Burial will be in Huntsville Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Sherrill died Monday, March 27, 2000, at his home. He was born Jan. 16, 1914, in Colbert County. A Huntsville resident since 1960, he was a retired market manager from Winn Dixie. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of Randolph Church of Christ.

He is survived by his wife, Lucile E. Sherrill; one son, Randy M. Sherrill of Huntsville; one daughter, Judy S. Lindsey of Madison; and five grandchildren.

Ima Ilene Smith

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Ima Ilene Smith, 70, of Falkville, will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Powell Chapel Church with Peck Funeral Home directing.

The family will receive friends Wednesday night from 6 to 9 at the funeral home. The body will be at the church one hour before the funeral.

Mrs. Smith died Monday, March 27, 2000, at The University of Alabama Hospital at Birmingham. Other arrangements will be announced by the funeral home.

William Frank 'Red' Steele Sr.
57, retired brick mason

MOULTON -- Funeral for William Frank "Red" Steele Sr., 57, of Moulton will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Lawrence Funeral Home with the Rev. Jerry Strickland officiating.

Burial will be in Mount Hope Methodist Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Steele died Sunday, March 26, 2000, at Parkway Medical Center. He was born Sept. 8, 1942, in Lacon to James and LouElla Steele. He was a retired brick mason.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy Erickson Steele; three sons, Scott Steele of Lompac, Calif., William "Billy" Steele Jr. of Hartselle and Larry Barns of Decatur; four daughters, Brenda Dotson, Patty Coan and Sandra Dotson, all of Moulton, and Shannon Slusser of Melrose Park, Ill.; two brothers, Bobby Steele of Cullman and Doug Steele of Decatur; six sisters, Jimmie Golden, Dean Vonsaus and Ruth Tiechmiller, all of Cullman, Arveline Borden and Dean Vonsaus, both of Decatur, and Joann Roman of Virginia; and 12 grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Wesley Dotson, Nick Coan, Jamie Steele, Danny Golden, Chuck Taylor and Kirk Tiechmiller.
