Shirley Crow Parham
61, church volunteer

Funeral for Shirley Crow Parham, 61, of Huntsville will be today at 2 p.m. at Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home with the Rev. Ted Etheridge officiating.

Burial will be in Bald Knob Cemetery.

Ms. Parham died Wednesday, March 29, 2000, at her home. She was born April 16, 1938, to Freeman Alton Crow and Bertha Phillips Crow in Morgan County. She often performed volunteer work at Grace Baptist Church. She was the sister of the late Cora Mae Stewart.

She is survived by three daughters, Susan Mason of Somerville, Judy Brothers of Huntsville and Betty Knox of Columbia, Tenn.; one brother, Ray Crow of Decatur; two sisters, Ann Riner and Barbara Bruns, both of Decatur; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Michael Stewart, Steven Smart, Jamie Smart, Jeff Stewart, Tim Wilks and Greg Barber.

Darby E. Smith
64, retired GM employee

Funeral for Darby E. Smith, 64, of Moulton will be today at 2 p.m. at Shelton Funeral Home with Joe Wiliams officiating.

Burial will be in Johnson Chapel Cemetery.

Mr. Smith died Friday, March 31, 2000, at Huntsville Hospital. He was born Oct. 18, 1935, in Limestone County to Wilmer Emerson Smith and Bertha Elizabeth Jeffreys Smith. He was a member of First General Baptist Church in Auburn Heights, Mich., and was a retired General Motors employee.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret Smith; one daughter, Donna Ihrke of Hartselle; two brothers, Wilmer Smith Jr. of Moulton and Larry Smith of Trinity; and two sisters, Willie Mae Shelton of Danville and Shirley Jenkins of Hartselle.

Nephews will be pallbearers.

George Carson Smothers
89, retired Bryce Hospital employee

GORDO -- Funeral for George Carson Smothers, 89, of Gordo, will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Flatwoods Baptist Church with the Rev. Todd Burkhalter and the Rev. Mike Griffin officiating.

Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery with Skelton Funeral Home directing. The body will be at the church one hour before the service. The family will receive friends today from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Smothers died Friday, March 31, 2000, at DCH Northport Hospital. He was born Dec. 16, 1910, in Pickens County to Troy and Sadie Smothers. He was a member of Mount Olivet Presbyterian Church, a retired employee of Bryce Hospital Unit 2 and a life-long resident of Pickens County. He was the widower of Ludyce Pate Smothers.

He is survived by one son, the Rev. Thomas Smothers of Decatur; one daughter, Janie Sims of Gordo; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be David Fife, Raiford Fife, Jimmy Crimm, Gene Wilson, Danny Gray and Bob Sutton.

Theodore R. Vinson
78, retired Reynolds Metal Co.

Funeral for Theodore R. Vinson, 78, of North Courtland, will be Monday at 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church with the Rev. O.C. Neloms officiating.

Burial will be in Annie Mae Willingham Memorial Gardens with Reynolds Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 7 at the funeral home. The body will be at the church one hour before the service.

Mr. Vinson died Friday, March 31, 2000, at his home. He was born April 25, 1921, in Elizabeth, Miss., to George Alex Vinson and Georgia King Vinson. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II, a member of First Baptist Church and a retired employee of Reynolds Metal Co. after 28 years of service.

He is survived by his wife, Jessie Pride Vinson; four sons, Alfonso Vinson of Chattanooga, Ronald Vinson and Gerald Vinson, both of Decatur, and Theopolis Vinson of Oxford, Miss.; three daughters, Eloise White and Brenetta Vinson, both of North Courtland, and Theresa White of Hillsboro; one brother, Emmitt Vinson of Chattanooga, Tenn.; one sister Prince Ashford of Chattanooga, Tenn.; 15 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Nephews will be pallbearers.

Deacons of First Baptist Church will be honorary pallbearers.

Margie Pack Davis
65, former restaurant operator
ATHENS -- Funeral for Margie Pack Davis, 65, of Athens will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Spry Funeral Home with Mike White officiating.

Burial will be in Athens City Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Davis died Sunday, April 2, 2000, at Athens-Limestone Hospital. She was born Sept. 24, 1934, in Limestone County to John and Anna Pack. She was the former operator of two restaurants, Mapes Vittles and Park Inn. She was a member of Reunion Church of Christ. She was the widow of Paul Davis and sister of the late Harold Pack and India Griggs.

She is survived by two brothers, Jerry Pack and Johnnie Pack, both of Athens; and two sisters, Agnes Pack Ferrell of Montgomery and Nell P. Harvey of Athens.

Nephews will be pallbearers.

Charles Ray Fuller
65, retired insurance salesman

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Charles Ray Fuller, 65, of Decatur will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Fuller died today, April 3, 2000, at Decatur General Hospital. He was born Jan. 9, 1935, in Winston County to Gay and Irene Key Fuller. He was a retired salesman for Liberty National Life Insurance Co.

He is survived by one son, Chuck Fuller of Decatur; two daughters, Charlotte Nichols of Decatur and Lynne Pearson of Trinity; his mother of Arley; two brothers, Billy Jack Fuller of Cullman and Kenneth Fuller of Arley; and four grandchildren.

Other arrangements will be announced by Peck Funeral Home.

Volie Leo Hopper
78, NASA retiree

Funeral for Volie Leo Hopper, 78, of Decatur will be Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. at Beltline Church of Christ with Bruce White and Mike Nix officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery with Roselawn Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home. The body will be at the church one hour before the funeral.

Mr. Hopper died Sunday, April 2, 2000, at his home. He was born Feb. 6, 1922, in Gleason, Tenn., to William Clinton Hopper and Martha Jane Hargrove Hopper. He was a member of Beltline Church of Christ and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II who received the Purple Heart. He was employed by Alabama Ballistics and NASA for 41 years in the management office for plating and finishing, and was a charter member of NASA and Government Employees Association. He was the husband of the late Mary Elizabeth Hopper and brother of the late Lizzie Chandler and Elvin Hopper.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Martha Hopper; one son, Philip Hopper of Indianola, Iowa; two daughters, Mary Beth White of Florence and Melissa Joy Hopper of Huntsville; four stepsons, Nathan Fuller of Decatur, Jonathan Fuller of Moulton, Michael Meherg of Winfield and Keith Meherg of Helena; one stepdaughter, Renee McCaleb of Washington, D.C.; three brothers, Hollis Hopper and J.W. Hopper, both of McKenzie, Tenn., and Carlos "Buck" Hopper of Memphis; five grandchildren; and five step-grandchildren.

Shelvie Lee LeMay
77, retired farmer

ATHENS -- Funeral for Shelvie Lee LeMay, 77, of Elkmont will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at McConnell Funeral Home with Dwight Ridinger officiating.

Burial will be in Lebanon Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. LeMay died Saturday, April 1, 2000, at Limestone Health Facility. He was born Oct. 10, 1922, in Limestone County. He was a lifelong resident of Limestone County and a retired farmer. He was a Baptist.

He is survived by his sister, Ruby Estell Perry of Elkmont.

David Gene Scruggs
42, dental technician

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for David Gene Scruggs, 42, of Decatur will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. Bobby South officiating.

Burial will be in Bethlehem Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Scruggs died Friday, March 31, 2000, at Gulf Breeze Hospital. He was born Feb. 8, 1958, in Montgomery to Robert Herman and Emma Glenn Golson Scruggs. He was a member of Priceville Church of Christ and a dental technician and owner of ABC Dental Lab.

He is survived by his wife, Robin Garrison Scruggs, his parents of Navarre, Fla.; one son, Spencer Devane Scruggs of Priceville; one daughter, Whitley Elizabeth Scruggs of Priceville; two brothers, Scott Scruggs of Tupelo, Miss. and Steve Scruggs of Cullman; two sisters, Janet Wilson of Atlanta and Tammy Scruggs of Navarre.

Pallbearers will be Jamie Hodges, Eddie Tapscott, Don Barthel, Steve Bateman, Kevin Swindal and Joe Garrison. Pallbearers will be Gary Hill, Joe Drake, Jack Cox, Ralph Slate, Greer Cagle and Ernie Spivey.

Harry A. Balch
73, retired supply manager

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Harry A. Balch, 73, of Valhermoso Springs will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Valhermoso Springs Holiness Church with the Rev. Melvin Brown and the Rev. Don Trosper officiating, and Peck Funeral Home directing.

Burial will be in Valhermoso Springs Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Balch died Monday, April 3, 2000, at Huntsville Hospital. He was born Sept. 11, 1926, in Madison to Gordon L. and Lizzie Gooch Balch. He was the widower of Carrie Laverin Balch. He was a member and deacon of Valhermoso Springs Holiness Church, a World War II veteran who served in the U.S. Navy and a retired supply manager for NASA.

He is survived by two sons, David A. Balch of Arab and H. Douglas Balch of Harvest; two daughters, Bonnie J. Balch of Valhermoso Springs and Sharon L. Roberson of Somerville; one brother, Roscoe Balch of Huntsville; one sister, Edith Jones of Harvest; and six grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Billy Russell, Tim Patrick, Victor Lemmons, Kirk Brown, Bud Hopkins, Charlie Madwell, Gary Thompson and Eddie Lones.

Basken 'Nub' Bennett
82, World War II veteran

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Basken "Nub" Bennett, 82, of Falkville will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Union Hill Freewill Baptist Church with the Rev. Larry McElroy officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.

Burial will be in Union Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home. The body will be at the church one hour before the funeral.

Mr. Bennett died Monday, April 3, 2000, at his home. He was born July 21, 1917, to I.J. and Isbell Bennett. He was a World War II veteran who won the Purple Heart. He was a member of Disabled American Veterans and Veterans of Foreign War.

He is survived by two brothers, Tom Bennett and Billy Bennett, both of Eva; and two sisters, Eloise Brannon of Leeds and Maxine Oden of Eva.

VFW members will be pallbearers.

John Wayne England
60, construction worker

MOULTON -- Funeral for John Wayne England, 60, of Decatur will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Pinetorch Church with the Rev. Ted Agee and the Rev. Tim Harris officiating.

Burial will be in Pinetorch Cemetery with Elliott Funeral Home directing. The body will be at the church one hour before the service.

Mr. England died Saturday, April 1, 2000, in Jackson, Tenn. He was born Feb. 1, 1940, in Lawrence County.

He was employed as a construction worker. He was the brother of the late Roger Dale England and Johnny England.

He is survived by six sisters, Joyce Ann Warren of Moulton, Margaret Ann Pullion and Janet Lee Terry, both of Decatur, Wanda Lee Littrell of Gulf Shores, Patsy Sue Benson of Double Springs and Kimberly England Riddle of Athens; and two brothers, Danny England and Eddie England, both of Moulton.
