ATHENS -- Funeral for William David Brooks, 49, of Athens will be Friday at 2 p.m. at McConnell Funeral Home with the Rev. Tony Wales and the Rev. Ruben Garber officiating.

Burial will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Brooks died Wednesday, April 5, 2000, at Huntsville Hospital. He was born Oct. 8, 1950, in Decatur to Bill and Doris Brooks. He was a musician, an Army veteran and a member of Madison Street Baptist Church. He was the brother of the late Stanley Brooks.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Brooks; two sons, Jason Brooks and Josh Brooks, both of Athens; his mother and stepfather, Doris and David Miller of Athens; two brothers, Ricky Brooks and Mike Brooks, both of Athens; two sisters, Deborah Mullins and Cindy McCurry, both of Athens; and three stepbrothers, James Miller and Mike Miller, both of Madison, and Andy Miller of Fayetteville, Tenn.

Pallbearers will be Mike Sandlin, Eddie Miller, Don Seals, Charlie Rogers, Phillip Wilson, Jeff Wilson, Larry Lovell and Glenn Dugger.

Gloria Thompson Cannon
50, homemaker

MOULTON -- Graveside service for Gloria Thompson Cannon, 50, of Morrison, Tenn., was Saturday at Jones Chapel Cemetery in Moulton with the Rev. Hootie Richards and the Rev. John Martin officiating.

Mrs. Cannon died Friday, March 31, 2000, at her home. She was born Aug. 27, 1949, in Lawrence County to Frank and Kathleen Thompson. She was a homemaker.

She is survived by her husband, Charles Cannon; one son, Zachary Cannon of Morrison; two daughters, Tanya Elkins Lowell and Sarah Cannon, both of Morrison; her mother and stepfather, Kathleen and Kenneth Thomas of Moulton; one brother, Frank J. Thompson of Moulton; five sisters, Stephanie Sherrill of Trinity, Angela Nix of Decatur, Kathy Sherrill of Huntsville, Jennifer Guillett of Moulton and Sylvia Sivley of Japan; and two grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Wayne Nix, Adam Nix, Lanier Sherrill, John Martin, Jim Harris and Cameron Harris.

Eugene Floyd Hill
67, retired U.S. Army lieutenant colonel

HUNTSVILLE -- Funeral for Eugene Floyd Hill, 67, of Toney was to be today at 10:30 a.m. at Saint John's Catholic Church with Monsignor Michael Sexton officiating.

Burial was to be in Huntsville Memory Gardens with Laughlin Service Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Hill died Monday, April 3, 2000, at his home. He was born Oct. 18, 1932, in Trinity. He retired as a lieutenant colonel from the U.S. Army in 1968 after 14 years of service. A veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars, he was a master paratrooper in the 101st Airborne Infantry. He worked for AM International as a sales manager. He was the father of the late Michael Hill, Jonathan Hill and Stephen Hill.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Gale Hill; one son, Eugene Patrick Hill of Toney; two daughters, Teresa Ann Underwood and Deborah Kay Blanchard, both of Orlando, Fla.; two brothers, Kermit Hill and Lovis Hill, both of Trinity; three sisters, Opal Terry of Trinity, Helen Schooler of Ypsilanti, Mich., and Naomi Jahr of Tampa, Fla.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Volie Leo Hopper
78, NASA retiree

Funeral for Volie Leo Hopper, 78, of Decatur was Tuesday at Beltline Church of Christ with Bruce White and Mike Nix officiating.

Burial was in Roselawn Cemetery with Roselawn Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Hopper died Sunday, April 2, 2000, at his home. He was born Feb. 6, 1922, in Gleason, Tenn., to William Clinton Hopper and Martha Jane Hargrove Hopper. He was a member of Beltline Church of Christ and received the Purple Heart while serving in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was employed by Alabama Ballistics and NASA for 41 years in the management office for plating and finishing, and was a charter member of NASA and Government Employees Association. He was the widower of Mary Elizabeth Hopper and the brother of the late Lizzie Chandler and Elvin Hopper.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Martha Hopper; one son, Philip Hopper of Indianola, Iowa; two daughters, Mary Beth White of Florence and Melissa Joy Hopper of Huntsville; four stepsons, Nathan Fuller of Decatur, Jonathan Fuller of Moulton, Michael Meherg of Winfield and Keith Meherg of Helena; one stepdaughter, Renee McCaleb of Washington, D.C.; three brothers, Hollis Hopper and J.W. Hopper, both of McKenzie, Tenn., and Carlos "Buck" Hopper of Memphis; five grandchildren; and five step-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Gary Hill, Joe Drake, Jack Cox, Ralph Slate, Greer Cagle and Ernie Spivey.

Geneva Pitt McCay
77, homemaker

Funeral for Geneva Pitt McCay, 77, of Athens will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home with Hershal Patton officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday night from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. McCay died Wednesday, April 5, 2000, at Huntsville Hospital. She was born July 31, 1922, in Lawrence County to Joseph and Beatrice Aycock Pitt. She was a homemaker and a member of Westview Church of Christ.

She is survived by her husband, Quentin McCay; one daughter, Angela Craig of Athens; two brothers, Joe Pitt of Huntsville and Bill Pitt of Douglas; two sisters, Ruth Bennett of Huntsville and Dolly Howell of Hartselle; and two grandsons.

Pallbearers will be Lloyd Kerr, Bill Claxton, Ed Singleterry, Bobby Graham, Larry Tucker and Grady Chandler.

Marcus Record 'Tie Tie' Sanders
36, farmer

TUSCUMBIA -- Funeral for Marcus Record "Tie Tie" Sanders, 36, of Town Creek will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church in Town Creek with the Rev. Bakari Brown officiating.

Burial will be in Wash-Tilla Cemetery with Thompson and Son Funeral directing. The body will be at the church one hour before the service.

Mr. Sanders died Friday, March 31, 2000, in Town Creek. He was born Jan. 25, 1964, in Lawrence County to Lit and Hattie Sanders. He was a farmer and a member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church.

He is survived by one son, William Mitchell II of Town Creek; two daughters, Lisa Sha Mitchell of Town Creek and Deveta Cole of Decatur; his mother of Town Creek; four brothers, Henry Sanders and Lit Sanders III, both of Leighton, and Edward Sanders and Preston Sanders, both of Town Creek; and four sisters, Lizzie Langham of Town Creek, Patricia Fuqua of Courtland and Carolyn Beckwith and Carol McDonald, both of London, Conn.

Cousins, friends and former classmates will be pallbearers.

Myrtie Grace Singleton Strawn
72, homemaker

TRINITY -- Funeral for Myrtie Grace Singleton Strawn, 72, of Moulton was to be today at 4 p.m. at Parkway Funeral Home with the Rev. Johnny Huey officiating.

Burial was to be in East Lawrence Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Strawn died Tuesday, April 4, 2000, at Parkway Medical Center. She was born July 26, 1927, in Morgan County to Authur and Maudie Singleton. She was a homemaker and a member of Enon Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband, Sam Sterling Strawn; two daughters, June McKay of Trinity and Judy Riffel of Moulton; one brother, Louis Singleton of Danville; two sisters, Edna Wallace of Trinity and Nancy Bates of Tennessee; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were to be Chris McKay, Carr McKay, Jay Riffel, Ricky Cross, Nathan Newton, Taylor Cross, Jeremy Ewert and Todd Cross.

MOULTON -- Funeral for Delbert Charles "Jack" Hill, 65, of Moulton will be today at 2 p.m. at Elliott Funeral Home with the Rev. Kenny Rogers officiating.

Burial will be in Cross Road Cemetery.

Mr. Hill died Wednesday, April 5, 2000, at Huntsville Hospital. He was born Nov. 8, 1934, in Winston County. He was a self-employed roofer.

Mr. Hill is survived by his wife, Evelyn Hill; two sons, Buster George Hill of Pineygrove and Cecil Dale Hill of Hartselle; four daughters, Diane Josephine Henderson of Logan, Jane Tina Whitworth of Danville, Emily Louise Glover of Watervalley and Faye Ellen Davis of Pensacola, Fla.; two stepsons, Boyd Mears of Priceville and Mark Mears of Trinity; two step daughters, Tina Dendy and Cindy Brantley, both of Trinity; five sisters, Willie Louise Treece and Bertha Lee Glover, both of Addision, Minnie Lee Cook of Arley, Georgia Levonia Gillott and Eloise Gillott, both of Neel; 22 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

James Robert Teare
Infant

MADISON -- Funeral for James Robert Teare, the infant son of David and Kathryn Teare of Madison, will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. John's Catholic Church in Madison with the Rev. Joe Culotta officiating and Madison Chapel Funeral Home directing.

Burial will be in Huntsville Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends at the church one hour before services.

James died Thursday, April 6, 2000, at Huntsville Hospital. He was born Wednesday, April 5, 2000, in Huntsville. His mother is a nurse practitioner at the office of Dr. Michael A. Hennigan in Decatur.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his grandparents, Robert and Marjorie Teare of Tuscaloosa and James and Claire Taylor of Hot Springs Village, Ark.

Charles Anerton Jr.
73, metallurgical technician

ARAB - Funeral for Charles Lee Anerton Jr., 73, of Arab will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at Gober Funeral Home with Ken Tyler officiating.

Burial will be in Brookwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Anerton died Thursday, April 6, 2000, at his home. He was born Jan. 3, 1927, in Peetes Corner community in Limestone County to Charles Lee Anerton Sr. and Sally Cooley Anerton. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a retired metallurgical technician with John Blue Co. He was the brother of the late Ellen Acuff, Kate Anerton, Nick Anerton and Jack Anerton.

He is survived by his wife, Mollie Anerton; one son, Darrel L. Anerton of Athens; one daughter, Marta Gurley of Huntsville; one sister, Betty Aldridge of New Market; and three grandchildren.

Ola L. Hogan

HARTSELLE - Funeral arrangements for Ola L. Hogan, 78, of Danville, who died Friday, April 7, 2000, at his home, will be announced by Peck Funeral Home.

Robert E. Holmes
89, Redstone Arsenal welder

Funeral for Robert E. Holmes, 89, of Decatur will be Monday at 10 a.m. at Central Park Baptist Church with the Rev. Craig Carlisle officiating.

Burial will be in Enon Cemetery in Eva with Roselawn Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Holmes died Thursday, April 6, 2000, at Stinson House Assisted Living in Alabaster. He was born March 16, 1911, in Morgan County to Acker A. and Annie Burke Holmes. He was a welder at Redstone Arsenal and a member of Central Park Baptist Church. He was the widower of Evelyn Lawrence Holmes.

He is survived by one daughter, Shirley Rigg of Helena; three brothers, Pat Holmes of Wichita, Kan., A.P. Holmes of Eva and Lowell Holmes of Decatur; and two grandchildren.

Members of the Ezra Sunday school class at Central Park Baptist Church will be pallbearers.
