Reuben Lewis Sims
75, Redstone Arsenal retiree

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Reuben Lewis Sims, 75, of Hartselle will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at West Hartselle Baptist Church with the Rev. Jack Redfern and the Rev. Ron Wilson officiating.

Military graveside service will be at Hartselle Memory Gardens with Peck Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Sims died Monday, April 17, 2000, at Carraway Methodist Medical Center in Birmingham. He was born April 10, 1925, in Morgan County to George A. and Mattie A. Wallace Sims. He was a retired logistics specialist with Army Missile Command at Redstone Arsenal and a World War II veteran, who served in the 71st Infantry Division and Patton's 3rd Army in Europe. He was a disabled veteran and served in the field as a logistic adviser during the Vietnam War. He was a member of West Hartselle Baptist Church and a charter member of Hartselle Gideons Camp.

He was involved with youth baseball in Hartselle for 48 years and served nine years on the Park and Recreation Board, during which the Sparkman Civic Center was built. He was a graduate of Morgan County High School and attended Athens State College. He was the brother of the late Eric Sims, Pynion Sims, John V. Sims and Wallace A. Sims.

He is survived by his wife, Sarah Inez Anders Sims; two sons, Edward L. Sims of Decatur and Jerry Don Sims of Hartselle; one daughter, Sarah Beth Sims Bell of Hartselle; one sister, Adell Sims White of Hartselle; six grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

Pallbearers will be William L. Sims, Sarah Katherine Green well, Sarah April Bolan, Robert L. Sims, Adam C. Bolan and Jacob E. Bell.

Disabled American Veterans and American Legion Post 52 in Hartselle will be honorary pallbearers.

Annie Sue Jones Smith

ATHENS -- Funeral for Annie Sue Jones Smith, 90, of Gulf Breeze, Fla., who died Sunday, April 16, 2000, at Baybreeze Nursing Home, will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church.

Burial will be in Huntsville Memory Gardens with Spry Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Other arrangements will be announced by the funeral home.

Irene Hartselle
80, retired nurse

HARTSELLE -- Graveside service for Irene Hartselle, 80, of Mobile and formerly of Hartselle, will be today at 11 a.m. at Hartselle City Cemetery with Peck Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Hartselle died Monday, April 17, 2000, at Cogburn Nursing Home Midtown in Mobile. She was born April 3, 1920, in Morgan County to Carrie Elizabeth Wardlow and Dallas McMillian Hightower. She was a retired nurse and the widow of George David Hartselle Jr.

She is survived by one son, David M. Hartselle of Mobile; one daughter, Judith Hartselle Moore of Sun City Center, Fla.; one brother, Murry Hightower of Hartselle; one sister, Mary Sanders of Hartselle; three grandchildren and one great-grandchildren.

Ronald Eugene Hood Sr.
72, custodian

PRICEVILLE -- Funeral for Ronald Eugene Hood Sr., 72, of Eva will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Pine Street Baptist Church in Falkville with the Rev. Clifford Barger officiating and Priceville Funeral Home directing.

Burial will be in Lawrence Cove Cemetery in Eva. The family will receive friends Thursday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. The body will be in the church one hour before the service.

Mr. Hood died Tuesday, April 18, 2000, at Decatur General Hospital. He was born April 15, 1928, in Michigan and was a retired custodian from Oakland Community College in Michigan.

Mr. Hood is survived by one son, Ronald E. Hood Jr. of Michigan; two daughters, Gloria Kelsey of Hartselle and Patty Pike of Eva; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Edward Odell King
59, truck driver

HINESVILLE, GA. -- Funeral for Edward Odell King, 59, of Long County, Ga., will be Friday at Thomas L. Carter Funeral Home with Randy Vaughn officiating.

Burial will be in Baggs Cemetery in Long County. The family will receive friends Thursday night from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. King died Monday, April 17, 2000, at his residence after a short illness. He was born Jan. 18, 1941, in Cullman County. He was employed by Kennesaw Transportation as a driver and was a Baptist.

Mr. King is survived by his wife, Lydia King; two sons, Jeff King of Cullman and Chris King of Buna, Texas; two daughters, Debbie Alter of South Dakota and Melissa Hancock of Texas; two stepsons, Paul Brown of Macon, Ga. and James Brown of Hinesville, Ga.; one step-daughter, Michelle Altman of Townsend, Ga.; his mother, Wyonna King of Hartselle; two sisters, Susie McGhee of Hartselle and Peggy McCinney of South Carolina; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Paul Brown, David Swallop, Wayne Stewart, Sean Tucker, Jeremy Basos and Joe Hughes.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Hinesville, 115 W. Oglethorpe Plaza, Suite No. 4, Hinesville, Ga.

Roosevelt Malone
53, production worker

ATHENS -- Funeral for Roosevelt Malone, 53, of Athens will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at New Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Larry Lockett officiating.

Burial will be in Thatch-Mann Cemetery with People's Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Malone died Sunday, April 16, 2000, at his home. He was born Aug. 17, 1946, in Athens. He was a production worker.

He is survived by two sons, Marcus Sledge of Atlanta and Barrett Sledge of Athens; one daughter, Bridgett Hunter of Athens; three brothers, Melvin Malone, Charlie Malone and Eddie Malone, all of Athens; and four sisters, Elizabeth Whitfield of Louisville, Ky., Willie Alexander, Ollie Orr and Sarah Baker, all of Athens.

Funeral arrangements for Annie Pearl McDonald, 83, of Decatur, who died today, April 19, 2000, at South Morgan Health Care Center, will be announced by Reynolds Funeral Home.

Gladys M. Clark Ready Moore
78, homemaker

MOULTON -- Funeral for Gladys M. Clark Ready Moore, 78, of Decatur will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Parkway Funeral Home with the Rev. Tommy Bolan, the Rev. Sam Wallace and the Rev. Billy Burge officiating.

Burial will be in Morris Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home. The body will at the church two hours before the service.

Mrs. Moore died Tuesday, April 18, 2000, at her residence. She was born Nov. 26, 1921, in Lawrence County, to Walter and Evie Clark. She was a homemaker and a charter member of Mount View Baptist Church. Mrs. Ready was a member of the Eastern Star and the ARC of Morgan County. She supported the Morgan County Special Olympics. She was the widow of Earl Ready and Roy Moore. She was the mother of the late Mary Ann Ready. Mrs. Moore also was the sister of the late Roy Holland, Howell Clark and Lawson Clark.

She is survived by three daughters, Corine Lowery and Doris White, both of Trinity and Phyllis Brock of Decatur; one sister, Lurann Laramie of St. Louis, Mo.; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Laron Parker, Ricky White, Sidney Parker, Thomas White, Bobby Brock, Jacob Bowers and Josh Patterson.

Lyndon H. Morris
68, retired plant manager

TRINITY -- Private graveside service for Lyndon H. Morris, 68, of Dalton, Ga., will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at East Lawrence Memorial Gardens with Jackie Shelton officiating at Parkway Funeral Home directing.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Morris died Monday, April 17, 2000, at his home. He was born March 30, 1932, in Lawrence County. He was a retired plant manager. He was the son of the late Clifford W. Morris and brother of the late Burl Dean Morris, Bobby Andrew Morris and Fred Morris.

He is survived by his wife, Faye Hill Morris; two sons, Phillip Allen Morris of Smiley, Texas, and Barry Lyndon Morris of Dalton; four daughters, Cathy Melisa Jones of Moulton, Karen Lynn Johnson of Cullman, Elizabeth Ann Cummings and Alice Faye Gaines, both of Dalton; his mother, Zenobia G. Morris of Chalybeate; two brothers, Guin D. Morris of Athens and Aaron H. Morris of Chalybeate; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Phillip Morris, Barry Morris, Wesley Allen Morris, Tim Jones, Bobby Cummings and Steve Johnson.

90, homemaker

ATHENS -- Funeral for Annie Sue Jones Smith, 90, of Gulf Breeze, Fla., was to be today at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Aaron D. Johnson officiating.

Burial was to be in Huntsville Memory Gardens with Spry Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Smith died Sunday, April 16, 2000, at Baybreeze Nursing Home. She was born March 27, 1910, in Coal Valley. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church. She is survived by two sons, Bobby R. Smith of Northport and Wayne E. Smith of Harvest; one daughter, Patricia S. Turner of Navarre Beach, Fla.; one sister, Louise Jones Evans of Homewood; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Grandsons and deacons of First Baptist Church were to be pallbearers.

Garland J. Ward
75, retired sheet metal worker

Graveside service for Garland J. Ward, 75, of Decatur will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Roselawn Cemetery with the Rev. Brooks Barkley officiating and Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home directing.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Ward died Monday, April 17, 2000, at Baptist Medical Center Princeton in Birmingham. He was born May 20, 1924, in Morgan County. He was a veteran of World War II and a member of Southside Baptist Church. He was a retired sheet metal worker.

He is survived by his wife, Faye Ward; one son, Garland F. Ward of Ocean Isle Beach, N.C.; one daughter, Deborah Ward Oppenheim of Pelham; and one grandchild.

Jack Pascal Butler
69, electrical engineer

CULLMAN -- Funeral for Jack Pascal Butler, 69, of Athens will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Cullman Heritage Funeral Home with Mel Tobias officiating.

Burial will be in Catholic Cemetery in Cullman. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Butler died Wednesday, April 19, 2000, at Huntsville Hospital. He was born Feb. 18, 1931, in Georgia to Herschel and Ruth Smith Butler. He was an electrical engineer for Delphi Sagninaw Steering Systems and an Air Force veteran of the Korean War. He was the father of the late Jack Mark Butler and Robert Rickland Butler.

He is survived by his wife, Emily Easterwood Butler; one son, Kenneth Butler of Eva; one daughter, Gloria Hull of Lanett; two brothers, Charles Ray Butler and Bill Butler, both of Fairview; and five grandchildren.

John Patrick Caine

ATHENS -- Funeral arrangements for John Patrick Caine, 28, of Athens, who died Wednesday, April 19, 2000, at Huntsville Hospital, will be announced by Spry Funeral Home.

Harold Clayton
70, Korean War veteran

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Harold Clayton, 70, of Hartselle was to be today at 1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home.

Burial was to be in Falkville City Cemetery.

Mr. Clayton died Tuesday, April 18, 2000, at Huntsville Hospital. He was born April 6, 1930, in Morgan County to Everett M. and Lora Moore Clayton. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.

He is survived by two sons, Lee Hemming of Hartselle and Daniel Hemming of Hadley, Mich.; five daughters, Dawn Hastings and Barbara Wiley, both of Hartselle, and Beverly Roberts, Kathy Roberts and Suzanne Legg, all of Lake Orion, Mich.; one sister, Pauline Childers of Aiken, S.C.; 21 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were to be Jimmy Gilbert, Paul Hastings, Chris Hemming, Phillip Kelso, Trevor Roberts and Ricky Joe Smith.
