ATHENS -- Funeral for Eula Mae Hines Atkins, 81, of Athens will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Fletchers Chapel Primitive Baptist Church in Green brier with the Rev. Kenneth Langford Sr. officiating.

Burial will be in Ragland Cemetery in Green brier with Peoples Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Atkins died Saturday, April 22, 2000, at her home. She was born in Limestone County in 1918. She was a retired self-employed cosmetologist.

She is survived by one daughter, Wendetta Shoulders of Chattanooga.

Anne Hurst Brooks
63, retired schoolteacher

LEEDS -- Funeral for Anne Hurst Brooks, 63, of Springville will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Kilgroe Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Hurst and the Rev. Billy Hopkins officiating.

Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Brooks died Monday, April 24, 2000, at St. Vincent's Hospital in Birmingham. She was born May 26, 1936, in Alabama to Claude and Clara Simpson Hurst. She was a retired Jefferson County schoolteacher.

She is survived by her husband, Olin Brooks; two sons, Richard Brooks of Clearwater, Fla., and Toby Hill of Pinson; two daughters, Vickie Brooks and Loren Foster , both of Huntsville; three brothers, Claude H. Hurst Jr. of Mount Vernon, Ill., Benjamin F. Hurst of Alexander City and Lawrence Hurst of Paris, Tenn.; four sisters, Dorothy H. Snead of Tuscumbia, Betty Roberson of Oxford, and Mary Hardyman and Marion Harris, both of Moulton; and three grandchildren.

Nephews will be pallbearers.

Emily King Craig
63, retired bookkeeper

RUSSELLVILLE -- Funeral for Emily King Craig, 63, of Mount Hope will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Akins Funeral Home.

Burial will be in Franklin Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Craig died Monday, April 24, 2000, at home. She was born June 15, 1936, in Franklin County to Colman and Lucille Cooper King. She was a retired bookkeeper.

She is survived by her husband, Robert Craig; one son, Jim Craig of Florence; one daughter, Leigh Ann Counts of Mount Hope; two brothers, R.C. King of Russellville and Thomas King of Montgomery; one sister, Evelyn Fergerson of Russell-ville; and four grandchildren.

Mollie Nell Henderson
72, homemaker

Funeral for Mollie Nell Henderson, 72, of Decatur will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Springhill Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. John Z. Gray officiating.

Burial will be in Springhill Cemetery with Reynolds Funeral Home directing. The body will be at the church one hour before the funeral.

Mrs. Henderson died Saturday, April 22, 2000, at Parkway Medical Center. She was born Sept 29, 1927, in Morgan County to John and Kate Willis Jackson. A homemaker, she was a member of Spring Hill Missionary Baptist Church, where she served on the usher board, deaconess board and missionary society.

She is survived by two sons, Wayne Henderson and Kenneth Henderson, both of Decatur; eight daughters, Betty Bass, Joyce Mayes, Janice Henderson, Beverly Henderson and Sonja Mosley, all of Decatur, Ruth Henderson of Houston, Texas, Rachel Allen of Town Creek and Kathy Hampton of Dickinson, Texas; one brother, Alfred Jackson of Thomaston, Ga.; six sisters, Margaret Pope of Hartselle, Margie Matthews of Mulga, Marie Simpson, Mildred Jackson and Merlene Foster , all of Chattanooga, and Ann Britt of Suisun City, Calif.; 25 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Deacons of the church will be pallbearers.

Frances Itasker Holmes
84, homemaker

Funeral for Frances Itasker Holmes, 84, of Decatur will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home with the Rev. Bobby Morgan and the Rev. Carl Maynard officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Holmes died Monday, April 24, 2000, at her home. She was born June 22, 1915, in Cullman County to George and Minnie Haynes Blankenship. She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of God for 60 years. She was the widow of Adlie Lee Holmes.

She is survived by four sons, S.L. "Sonny" Holmes, Jackie G. Holmes, James P. Holmes and Michael R. Holmes, all of Decatur; three daughters, Joy Ellis and Nancy Parker, both of Decatur, and Rachel Shores of Birmingham; 16 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Tommy Holmes, Jim Barnette, Scott Smith, Brent Bibbee, Chelcie Ellis Jr., Jonathan Barnette, T.D. Lam and Josh Parker.

Edward Griffin House
74, NASA retiree

ATHENS -- Funeral for Edward Griffin House, 74, of Athens will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at McConnell Funeral Home with the Rev. Aaron Johnson officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. House died Monday, April 24, 2000, at his home. He was born Nov. 18, 1925, in Limestone County. He was a 1960 charter member of NASA Marshall Space Flight Center and began his career in 1951 as a member of the original Wernher Von Braun team at the Army Ballistic Missile Agency. He was a former manager of the Athens Country Club and former captain of Athens Fire Department.

He as an Army Air Force veteran of World War II and served in the Air Force Reserve. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Athens and attended Auburn University and Athens State College. He was past vice president of the Junior Chamber of Commerce, a member of Athens Chamber of Commerce and former president of Athens Progress Club. He was a trumpet player in the first Athens High School band.

He is survived by his wife, Rachel Evans House; two daughters, Carolyn House Rountree and Barbara House Holladay, both of Huntsville; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Limestone County or First Baptist Church.

Naomi Clem Lambert

ATHENS -- Funeral arrangements for Naomi Clem Lambert, 89, of Athens, who died today, April 25, 2000, at Athens Convalescent Center, will be announced by McConnell Funeral Home.

James Roy Massey
84, retired poultry farmer

RUSSELLVILLE -- Funeral for James Roy Massey, 84, of Phil Campbell was Monday at Akins Funeral Home with Bill Norris officiating.

Burial was in Colbert Memorial Garden.

Mr. Massey died Friday, April 21, 2000, in Russellville. He was born June 19, 1915, in Mount Hope. He was a retired poultry farmer. He was the widower of Dean Appleton Massey and the brother of the late Gerald Massey, Hillman Massey, Alice Simmons, Gertrude Johnson and Edna Hargett.

He is survived by one son, Jerome Steve Massey of Florida; one brother, Ray Massey of Mount Hope; one sister, Ruth Witt of Mount Hope; one granddaughter; and three great-grandsons.

Pallbearers were Jaylon Duncan, Robyn Duncan, Brad Massey, Mike Owens, Bill Wimberly and Matt Witt.

Guy Miller
92, retired road foreman

ATHENS -- Graveside service for Guy Miller, 92, of Athens was to be today at 1 p.m. at Athens Memory Gardens with Randy Johnson officiating and Spry Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Miller died Sunday, April 23, 2000, in Ashville. He was born Feb. 3, 1908, in Limestone County. He was a member of Mount Pisgah Baptist Church and a retired road foreman from the Limestone County Commission.

He is survived by his wife, Mattie Ann Miller; two sons, Guy C. Miller of Ragland and Frank D. Miller of Bremen, Ind.; two daughters, Mary R. Burrows and Frances C. White, both of Athens; two brothers, Hagan Miller of Athens and Watson Miller of Ekron, Ky.; one sister, Flossie Miller of Athens; 14 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Aretas Childers Powell
84, social service worker

CULLMAN -- Funeral for Aretas Childers Powell, 84, of Cullman will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Williams-McCracken Funeral Home with the Rev. Ronnie Burroughs officiating.

Burial will be in Powell's Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Powell died Monday, April 24, 2000, at her home. She was born Feb. 6, 1916, in Morgan County to the Rev. George Thomas Childers and Elsie Alma Suggs Childers. She was a social service worker.

She is survived by one son, Buttler Powell of Decatur; one daughter, Lela Powell of Cullman; one grandson.

Pallbearers will be Abraham Powell, Noah Lott, Matthew Welch, Arvil Childers, Tommy Childers and Larry Clayborn.

Ruby Hazel Roberts
87, homemaker

MOULTON -- Funeral for Ruby Hazel Roberts, 87, of Town Creek will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. Bob Sims officiating.

Burial will be in Providence Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at Lawrence Funeral Home. The body will be at the church one hour before the service.

Mrs. Roberts died Monday, April 24, 2000, at Sunbridge Nursing Home in Tuscumbia. She was born Aug. 11, 1912, in Lawrence County to Benjamin and Roxann Scoggin. She was a homemaker and a member of Calvary Baptist Church. She was the widow of George Roberts.

She is survived by two sons, Johnny Roberts and Larry Roberts, both of Town Creek; one daughter, Mona Faye Smith of Town Creek; one sister, Audrey Canup of Town Creek; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Grandsons and nephews will be pallbearers.

Katie Lawson Smilie
96, educator, homemaker

MONTGOMERY -- Funeral for Katie Lawson Smilie, 96, of Montgomery will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Leak-Memory Funeral Home in Montgomery with the Rev. Don Fuller, the Rev. Phillip McVay and the Rev. Tom Sheppard officiating.

Burial will be in Hill's Chapel Cemetery. The body will be at the funeral home one hour before the service.

Mrs. Smilie died Monday, April 24, 2000, at National Health Care in Moulton. She was born May 31, 1903, in Pike County to Vernon Davis Lawson and Lizzie Caraway Lawson. She was a graduate of Troy State Teachers College, a member of Whitfield United Methodist Church in Montgomery, an educator and a homemaker. She was the widow of Joseph Jackson Smilie, a longtime United Methodist minister in the Alabama-West Florida Conference.

She is survived by one son, Joseph Lawson Smilie of Baton Rouge, La.; one daughter, Betty Smilie Christiansen of Decatur; two sisters, Sara Lawson Lott of Montgomery and Lyra Lawson Richardson of Perote; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Paul Anderson Jr., Jeff Christiansen, Robert Smilie, Clay Smilie, Charles Lawson and Robert Pugh.

Memorials may be made to the library at Central United Methodist Church in Decatur or to a favorite charity.

Luchion Terry
89, retired builder

MOULTON -- Funeral for Luchion Terry, 89, of Mount Hope will be Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Lawrence Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Sanderson and the Rev. Rick Elrod officiating.

Burial will be in Jones Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Terry died Monday, April 24, 2000, at Lawrence Baptist Medical Center. He was born March 1, 1911, in Lawrence County to John F. and Julia Terry. He was a retired builder and a member of Mount Moriah United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia Terry; two sons, Billy Glenn Terry and Donald Terry, both of Moulton; two daughters, Maxine Hutcheson and Shelia Latham, both of Decatur; one stepson, Steve Heaton of Moulton; one stepdaughter, Cindy Flannagan of Mount Hope; one brother, Tennis Terry of Moulton; four sisters, Omie Cross, Mary Letson and Pauline Terry, all of Moulton, and Betty LaChance of Hudson, N.H.; five grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Darryl Terry, Victor Silas, Clayton Flannagan, Ronald Terry, Lyndon Letson, Johnny Mitchell, Harold Cross and Steve Heaton.
