Jimmy Lyle Barnett

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Jimmy Lyle Barnett, 58, of Lexington, Tenn., formerly of Morgan County, was to be today at 3 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. Melvin Brown officiating.

Burial was to be in New Friendship Cemetery.

Mr. Barnett died Monday, April 24, 2000, at Jackson General Hospital in Jackson, Tenn. He was born Aug. 31, 1941, in Morgan County to Zack and Gracie Key Barnett. He was a self-employed mechanic and equipment operator.

He is survived by two sons, Darren Barnett and Roger Barnett, both of Paw Paw, Mich.; one daughter, Janet Barnett of Paw Paw; seven brothers, William Barnett and Rayburn Barnett, both of Somerville, James Barnett, David Barnett and Rebe Barnett, all of Hartselle, and Zack Barnett Jr. and Earl Barnett, both of Lacey's Spring; five sisters, Temple Collin of Decatur, Ruth Blocker and Ann Barnett, both of Arab, Helen Bailey of Hartselle and Lucille Brown of Somerville; and nine grandchildren.

Pallbearers were to be Billy Barnett, Eddie Barnett, Joey Barnett, Phillip Barnett, Terry Barnett, William H. Barnett, Cecil Blocker and Kelvin Brown.

Clarence Doris Bowers
92, wood craftsman

ATHENS -- Funeral for Clarence Doris Bowers, 92, of Athens will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at McConnell Funeral Home with Bobby Turner and Glen Keenon officiating.

Burial will be in Bottoms Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Bowers died Monday, April 24, 2000, at Athens Convalescent Center. He was born Oct. 1, 1907, in Limestone County. He was a member of Northside Church of Christ, where he was an elder. He was a well-known wood craftsman and had made furniture for families and friends throughout the country.

He is survived by three sons, Clarence Alfred Bowers of Decatur, Morris Glen Bowers and James Robert Bowers, both of Athens; one brother, Earl Bowers of Athens; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Kerry Bowers, Kevin Bowers, Frank Casey, David Gordon, Randy Hudson and Steve Pack.

Lula Beasley Browning
103, homemaker

ATHENS -- Funeral for Lula Beasley Browning, 103, of Lester will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at McConnell Funeral Home with the Rev. A. Ray Blankenship officiating.

Burial will be in New Salem Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 9 a.m. until the service.

Mrs. Browning died Monday, April 24, 2000, at Sunbridge Nursing Home in Ardmore, Tenn. She was born Jan. 21, 1897, in Limestone County, where she was a lifelong resident. She was a homemaker, the wife of the late George H. Browning and a member of Salem United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Browning is survived by her nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be John C. Beasley Jr., John C. Beasley III, William V. McAleer Jr., Herman W. Beasley, Aubrey C. Beasley and Joel A. Beasley.

Gerald D. Burnett

Funeral arrangements for Gerald D. Burnett, 80, of Decatur, who died Tuesday, April 25, 2000, at Decatur General Hospital, will be announced by Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home.

Steven G. Craig

MOULTON -- Funeral for Steven G. Craig, 28, of Danville will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Elliott Funeral Home with Dewitt Crowe officiating.

Burial will be in Union Hill Cemetery in Franklin County. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Craig died Tuesday, April 25, 2000, at Decatur General Hospital. He was born Oct. 5, 1971, in Decatur. He was the grandson of the late Hillary White, the late R.V. Craig and the late Bertha Craig.

He is survived by his parents, Gilmer Lee and Jane White Craig, both of Danville; two sisters, Sandy Turburville of Lavern, Tenn., and Jenny Craig of Danville; and his grandmother, Inez White of Burnsville, Miss.

Relatives and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Memorials made to Crippled Children's Association.

Paul Leonard Draper
56, retired store owner

ATHENS -- Funeral for Paul Leonard Draper, 56, of Athens was to be today at 2 p.m. at Spry Funeral Home with James Bridges, James Turner and Chris Kemp officiating.

Burial was to be in Dement Cemetery.

Mr. Draper died Monday, April 24, 2000, at Eliza Coffee Memorial Hospital in Florence. He was born Sept. 27, 1943, in Limestone County to Joe and Ruby Draper. A U.S. Army veteran, he was a retired fish market and furniture store owner. He was a member of Mount Carmel Church of Christ and Masonic Lodge 147 in Rogersville. He was the brother of the late Lifford Draper and Pete Draper.

He is survived by his wife, Bonnie Campbell Draper; one daughter, Michelle Draper Barnett of Hanceville; two brothers, Bill Draper and Carroll Draper, both of Athens; three sisters, Ruby Robbins of Killen, Fay Hollingsworth of Florence and Vernon Hudspeth of Mayfield, Ky.; and one grandson.

Pallbearers were to be Joey Thomas, Sammy Springer, Tom Kerr, Tommy Draper, Turner Ray Gordon and Bobby Austin.

Memorials may be made to Relay for Life, 302 Dr. Hicks Blvd., Florence, AL 35630.

Frances Itasker Holmes
84, homemaker

Funeral for Frances Itasker Holmes, 84, of Decatur was to be today at 11 a.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home with the Rev. Bobby Morgan and the Rev. Carl Maynard officiating.

Burial was to be in Roselawn Cemetery.

Mrs. Holmes died Monday, April 24, 2000, at her home. She was born June 22, 1915, in Cullman County to George and Minnie Haynes Blankenship. She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of God for 60 years. She was the widow of Adlie Lee Holmes.

She is survived by five sons, Timothy W. Holmes, S.L. "Sonny" Holmes, Jackie G. Holmes, James P. Holmes and Michael R. Holmes, all of Decatur; three daughters, Joy Ellis and Nancy Parker, both of Decatur, and Rachel Shores of Birmingham; 16 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were to be Tommy Holmes, Jim Barnette, Scott Smith, Brent Bibbee, Chelcie Ellis Jr., Jonathan Barnette, T.D. Lam and Josh Parker.

Naomi Clem Lambert
89, Avon representative

ATHENS -- Funeral for Naomi Clem Lambert, 89, of Athens will be Thursday at 3 p.m. at McConnell Funeral Home with the Rev. Buel Gladney and the Rev. Barry Dunn officiating.

Burial will be in Athens City Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Lambert died Tuesday, April 25, 2000, at Athens Convalescent Center. She was born June 25, 1910, in Limestone County, where she was a lifelong resident. She was a member of Isom's Chapel United Methodist Church, where she was in United Methodist women, the ladies quilting club and the ladies Sunday school class. She was a former Avon representative.

She is survived by three sons, Robert L. Lambert, Dr. Charles W. Lambert and Gilbert W. Lambert, all of Athens; one daughter, Patricia Lambe of Baton Rouge, La.; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Robert Lakin Lambert Jr., C. Gregory Lambert, W. Christopher Lambert, Michael Clem Lambert, Jeffery W. Creel, Gregory A. Creel, Timothy A. Lambe and Nicholas Lambe.

Madge S. Malone
73, homemaker

Graveside service for Madge S. Malone, 73, of Tuscaloosa will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Town Creek Cemetery with the Rev. Reagin Brown officiating and Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home directing. A memorial service was to be today at 11 a.m. at Forest Lake United Methodist Church in Tuscaloosa.

Mrs. Malone died at home Sunday, April 23, 2000. She was born May 10, 1926, in Lauderdale, Miss, to Thomas and Emmie Savage. She was a homemaker and the widow of Joseph Malone. She has relatives in Lawrence County.

She is survived by three daughters, Elizabeth Jordan of Pine Bluff, Ark., Pamela Miller of Birmingham and Joanna Malone of Birmingham.

Instead of flowers, donations may be made to Forest Lake United Methodist Church or to Hospice of West Alabama.

Katie Lawson Smilie
96, educator, homemaker

MONTGOMERY -- Funeral for Katie Lawson Smilie, 96, of Montgomery was to be today at 1 p.m. at Leak-Memory Funeral Home in Montgomery with the Rev. Don Fuller, the Rev. Phillip McVay and the Rev. Tom Sheppard officiating.

Burial was to be in Hill's Chapel Cemetery.

Mrs. Smilie died Monday, April 24, 2000, at National Health Care in Moulton. She was born May 31, 1903, in Pike County to Vernon Davis Lawson and Lizzie Caraway Lawson. She was a graduate of Troy State Teachers College, a member of Whitfield United Methodist Church in Montgomery, an educator and a homemaker. She was the widow of Joseph Jackson Smilie, a longtime United Methodist minister in the Alabama-West Florida Conference.

She is survived by one son, Joseph Lawson Smilie of Baton Rouge, La.; one daughter, Betty Smilie Christiansen of Decatur; two sisters, Sara Lawson Lott of Montgomery and Lyra Lawson Richardson of Perote; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were to be Paul Anderson Jr., Jeff Christiansen, Robert Smilie, Clay Smilie, Charles Lawson and Robert Pugh.

Memorials may be made to the library at Central United Methodist Church in Decatur or to a favorite charity.

Leon Hubert Turner
82, retired carpenter

ATHENS -- Funeral for Leon Hubert Turner, 82, of Athens was to be today at 3:30 p.m. at Spry Funeral Home.

Burial was to be in Limestone Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Turner died Tuesday, April 25, 2000, at his home. He was born Nov. 20, 1917, in Limestone County. He was a retired carpenter, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of the Church of Christ and Woodmen of the World.

He is survived by his wife, Viola Turner; one brother, Charles Turner of Athens; and one sister, Mary Norton of Athens.

Nephews were to be pallbearers.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Limestone County.

Harold Griffith 'Griff' Alexander

MOULTON -- Funeral for Harold Griffith "Griff" Alexander, 14, of Moulton will be today at 2 p.m. at Moulton United Methodist Church with the Rev. Carl Long officiating and Elliott Funeral Home directing.

Burial will be in Moulton Memory Gardens.

He died Tuesday, April 25, 2000, at Lawrence Baptist Medical Center. He was born May 25, 1985, in Lawrence County to Rod and Connie Alexander of Moulton. He was a student at Lawrence County High School, where he was a member of the Beta Club. He was a member of Moulton United Methodist Church and its youth group, an Easter Seal Ambassador and was Mr. Moulton Middle School.

He is survived by his parents; two brothers, Mark Alexander and Sam Alexander, both of Moulton; and his grandparents, Harold and Martha Selman of Moulton.

Pallbearers will be classmates and members of Moulton United Methodist Church.
